Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down X-men 97.

The Episode 10 finale is now here and its packed with easter eggs, hidden details and a lot of things for the future. The series has come back with a bang and in this video we're gonna break it all down. Beau Demayo has also finished Season 2 and you can see the seeds being set for whats about to come. I will of course talk about that all later on but we're gonna start at the beginning of the episode. Last week ended with Magneto tearing out the adamantium from Wolverines bodies which was ripped right out of the pages of X-men 25. That was part of the fatal attractions event and it eventually led into Onsalught being created.
Back on Earth Bastion was beating the heroes with Cable being turned against his Jean who his mother was of course cloned from.
It all kicked off and that takes us into the title sequence.

Now we do get an added shot in the intro with Magneto and Charles working together. This comes from their time together as friends in the original series which explored their backstory. That was enter magneto which we see this scene pulling from. This is picked up immediately in the opening of the entry in which we seemingly see them in Vietnam discussing mutants. Both have opposing views with Professor X believing that they'll be accepted whereas Magneto clearly believes its best to hide. However the pair reveal the truth to each other. Theres lots of real world metaphors here with the idea of prejudice being the main talking point.

the poster with all the pictures of the missing xmen is the same from one of the episodes in the future in which it showed them all dead.
hey @heavyspoilers , I think the xmen were scattered through time because of Bastion who is somehow still alive and responsible of the" temporal explosion " because he absorbed Cable's arm ...and cable's arm had that AI assistant cube capable of time traveling
two parts got me :
1. rogue’s tears while punching bastion avenging gambit
2. cyclops when he said i love you son
It was 3 am and I’m screaming at the edge of my seat then she came in and my eyes went soaked

Timeline wise this is before MJ disappeared and I love the attention to detail on that

The lead writer on twitter confirmed the Avengers were dealing with the Kree Shi’ar war, something they did in the comics in the 90s during Operation Galactic Storm. That’s why Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are listed off World.
I wondered if that was the case. Great Easter egg!

Wait so the whole team of the avengers were off world expect for tony and Steve when all this went down kinda of makes sense why Tony and Steve didn’t go help because if things did really go down the way they did then one of them need to tell the others that hey the world needs us again come back to earth like as soon as possible if the x men failed the avengers are the worlds last hope

You think the two of them didn't try to stop an asteroid from destroying the Earth so that one of them could survive to tell the other Avengers what happened as if they wouldn't figure it out when there's a giant asteroid laying on new york? There was no explanation for why Iron Man didn't try to help

Completely glossed over Jubilee successfully using the spinning blade explosion technique to clip Bastion's wings before getting close enough to point blank explosion literally blowing up his face.

As I'm sure someone has already mentioned, the 4th person on the boat in Magneto's mind is Polaris, a daughter he didn't know about at the time.
Her name is also listed in the US govt file but it's blacked out. You can only make out the capital P

He knew her cause she was on asteroid M and Genosha with him. She was the only child he even knew about. Before he went looking for the Magda and met Pietro and Wanda instead.
@@neoiceman1 Hmmm. I don't remember seeing Magneto or Polaris even talk to or about one another. Of course there are several episodes from the original series I haven't seen in forever. I'll need to look at some of those again.

What a phenomenal season of Marvel Television! This season, finale was absolutely incredible, and it really had it all! Great writing, jaw-dropping animation, masterful music, amazing voice acting performances, brilliant pacing, respect for the original source material/90s animated series, and lots of fun/really cool Cameos and Easter Eggs for the fans to enjoy! I'm so excited/hyped for Season 2 and will be counting down the days! This finale and the whole season get a 10/10 from me!

the way multiple comic story lines have been blended together and re imagined.
The musical score.
The voice acting.
The story telling.
Everything was as close to perfection as it could be.
And some spot on comic book panels recreated.
I found myself shouting at the TV on multiple occasions.
I cheered
I gasped
I my have possible shed a tear.

Amazing show and demayo should be put on live action movie and not fired. The show is as close to perfect as you can get IMO

The possibility of the new Horsemen being Gambit as Death. Logan as War. Ororo as Famine. And Morph as Pestilence. It’d make for a good explanation for why they aren’t shown at the end.
I like that this is first episode where Morph isn't tormented by Sinister in the opening credits, as he gets to make fun of him and finally be free later in the episode. Nice little detail
It will be interesting to see where (when) Wolverine and Morph (and Storm) end up next season.

Finally a show that stuck the landing and broke the Disney + finale curse 🙏🏾, but fr tho XMEN 97 is hands down the best thing marvel has put post endgame and dare I say one of if not the MCU’s best projects ever!
I’m extremely biased but I do think it’s the best yet. I don’t know what Beau DeMayo did but unless it’s rape or murder, they need to have him take the reins from Feige. Could you imagine what he would accomplish with every character at his fingertips?

16:05 You missed a really cool easter egg here! Under Magneto's known aliases, it mentions David Hemblen (the original voice actor from TAS), and Ian M and Michael F - the two actors who portrayed the character in the Fox films.
It's also remarkable how much homework they did in listing Erik Lehnsherr as an alias and not his real name, as he was known only as Magnus up until the 90's before being assigned a "real" name that was since retconned as a German alias.

Considering En Sabbah Nur was still a raider when the X-men found him, I think this was during the reign of Pharaoh Rama Tut (aka Kang). Since Rama Tut has time travel technology, I think that storyline will have the X-men join En Sabbah Nur to fight Rama Tut and use his tech to return to their time, inadvertedly aiding En Sabbah Nur's ascension into becoming Apocalypse.
How ironic would it be, that in order to save themselves they'll end up creating their worst enemy.

That definitely is not Dr. Cecilia Reyes(from the OZT arc) but Alisa Tager/Cipher(from Young X-men) not to be confused with Doug Ramsey/Cypher(from New Mutants). Her phasing through Exodus should have been the first hint... and speaking of Exodus! The news report talking about Creed beating Kelly in the polls also stated mutant extremists waiting for the second coming of Magneto, so we'll probably see a lot from him and his acolyte cult.
Really an surprising and unexpected plotline for a finale, what was also shocking was Xavier not actually going Apes**t psycho on Magneto after doing Wolverine like that like in the comics

That was peak Marvel and I'm so happy we got it and hopefully they'll give us lots more of this content. The 10 year old and 40 year old me were both given exactly what they wanted and more. Roll on next year for season 2.

The post credit scene with Apocalypse, finding one gambit cards was really cool, but I kind of knew they would do something with Gambit as he has been in the opening credits and every episode if you look inside the blackbird.
The transition of the shot of the animania being pulled out of wolverine's body to the photo from the comics was very smooth

As someone who didn’t grow up with X Men, I can assure you that it isn’t just nostalgia. The writing and character work is incredible. I’m now ravenously digging through as much X Men content as I can.

Loved the final episode but left me wondering where are storm and Wolverine. Scott and Jean are in future on a planet and rest of the team is in the past in Egypt with past apocalypse and storm and Wolverine was not with either of them so where are they ? cause they were there in the jet on astroid m when it disappeared.

You made an error. THAT is not Mary Jane. That is the clone MJ. MJ died in 96, and Peter found the clone in 97. The cloned died in 97 and Spiderman and Maddame web went looking for her in 98
edit: I was 100% wrong as I now realise this episode took place in the 1st quarter of 1998, since Christmas 97 happened episodes/months ago.
But Beau Demayo confirmed that Peter found MJ though?
@@after9651 yeah i just found that out. so I looked back and then realised this episode occurs in 1998. even though the show is called 97. we had a Christmas episode, it should have been obvious.
