First song was Light in the Darkness, an original song written by Haruka and on their first full album, Ignition. Yes it is a shame they are not more recognized. They are insanely talented.

"Church" is not just a song, it's like a mesmerizing experience, at least for me. Noone else I know can transport feel and emotion as much through his/her instrument than she can.
Btw. the song they played on the street wasn't from Loudness, but their own original one "Light in the darkness"

The first time I heard this song, when Hal-Ca really started playing, she had me tearing up by the third note.

To put this in to some context this track " Church " is from a 5 track concept EP called " Guernica " - which as you would expect is suggested by the events captured in the Picasso anti-war masterpiece about the Spanish Civil War atrocity .
The tracks are - an " Intro " - " Gunfire " - " Faced / Burned " - " Church " - " Day 26 " ( Guernica was bombed on Market Day on the 26th April 1937 by German and Italian air forces and around 1500 civilians were killed or injured )
Japanese Bands they don't care playing anywhere even in the street, they don't give a damn about famous or not, they just enjoy to play music.... 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
In the US today, youngsters play Metal music solos with MACHINEGUNS, not with GUITARS....
You are right, sir. Too many of us have closed our minds and ears to the exceptional music and talent worldwide. ASTERISM's experience in So. Cal is a sad example. This is why many of us who aren't closed in mind and ears appreciate you getting these talents such as ASTERISM out to many others.
I dont know if it's the world or just the United States that seems F'd up. The Sheeple are fed pop music and its like they are just transfixed on it. I only know a few of Asterism songs but I love this one, probably my favorite. What accomplished musicians they are!! Once again, not just talent but hard work that make them this good. More Asterism please.
It's the World. Look at Japan, where these J Metal bands are from, they aren't even known in their own country. The J Pop, KPop and Idol groups are what's being listened to. I've noticed a large percentage of Japanese female Rock bands incorporate this kind of stuff into their music (Maybe to try to appeal to a larger audience) , For me, it makes a lot of those bands unlistenable.
I believe they mainly play in small venues with a 200 person cap in Japan. They were originally from around the Fukuoka region (on the Kyushu island in the South of Japan) but moved to Tokyo last year to gig more, but apparently it didn't help that much unfortunately. One of the other reactors on yt went to Japan a while ago and saw them there and said the venue wasn't even filled to capacity. I am from Europe, but It's the world that's the problem, not only the US.
It's the level of competition, there's a ton of bands vying for people's ears. Just go to the JR rail station in Umeda, Osaka at 5 pm - there's a constant flow of bands playing, hawking their EPs and pressing the flesh to get word out on a live-show gig. Rock gets listened to and does get on charts, but it won't dominate because there's just so much music of all kinds of that can get played in Japan. Heck there's a ton of failures among Jpop, Kpop and idol acts as well. Asterisk doesn't have any monopoly on critical accolades so what can set them apart from thousands of other bands in their genre?
Pop has long been a part of Japan's modern music and historically rather interchangeable with rock, for example after Destrose Saki joined Mixx...well there's a 12 year old video on Mixx's site where Saki is attending a high school performance where the drummer Jackson was doing an AKB48 performance. It was done straight, not ironic and both Saki and Jackson were proud that she put on a strong performance.
Gawkers passing by don't even realize how lucky they are to see and hear some of the most talented musicians in their lives and, especially, to see Hal-Ca - a real diamond of guitar music

Haruka is is a real guitar samurai. :) Only with the greatest musicians can you see and feel that they are so fused with their instrument that it is practically an extension of their body. Hal-Ca is like that. A natural born performer with exceptional talent (and musical maturity)!
When Steve Vai talked to Frank Zappa after his first shows under Frank's employ and asked how he was doing Frank said this: "I think you are a great guitar player but your tone is like an electric ham sandwich". Vai wondered what was wrong... after all he had the Strat and the Marshall. "Tone is in your head' (and by extension your fingers) Zappa replied. Vai internalized that advice and changed his approach over time. Hal-Ca has nailed the tone in her head from age 12 or so and frankly I think she had to have been born with it. 3 more years? 5? 10? Check out the song Yunagi to see a bit of Asterism's funky side. These kids can play anything and everything. The pure joy on their faces is something special.
For their first album "Ignition" two of the tracks were produced by Bootsy Collins with additional guitar shredding by Buckethead. Bootsy found them on Facebook and liked their music so much and asked Buckethead to make guest appearance.
It would be great if Asterism could be picked up to open for somebody like Polyphia or Vai (G3 would be perfect). You would have an audience already open to instrumental guitar and a 40 minute opening set would be great exposure. Asterism really deserves a larger following for their phenomenal music. It's hard to believe they're closing in on 10 years together, and Haruka is barely 20.
All of us who recommended "Church" knew you would like it! 😁 I totally understand your frustration, but ASTERISM at least still gets _some_ exposure. Many new and incredibly talented artists are taking the essence of the best classic rock and indie rock sounds, mix in other genres, and give it a completely fresh feel and interpretation, but they go largely unnoticed 🙄.
This band was crowd funded for their original Ignition album ( I gladly contributed, talent like this is a gift). Much like Lovebites they have been a slow sell to the music world, criminal if you ask me. It amazed me how many people walked by and didn't grasp how these teens from Japan were something truly amazing and special. Church shows off the progressive side of these kids. They know song construction, music theory, composition and arrangement, they write, arrange and play their own material. I saw Cream (1966-68) with Baker, Bruce and Clapton and these kids are every bit as great and better as they are dedicated to each other, have a clean life style and there are no ego wars (Baker and Bruce were the poster children for ego wars if there ever were one). My only concern now is with Hal-Ca singing and if it will take away from her playing...foolish I know but I love the fact they are an instrumental band perhaps they don't want to end up like D_Drive a great instrumental Japanese band, in fact try Unkind Rain ruclips.net/video/m5G3nXJtSzQ/видео.html
as a great musician and teacher I am sure they will bring joy to your watching experience.
It goes without saying that their stage performances are amazing.
What is even more amazing is that they wrote, arranged, and produced many of their original songs when they were still low teens, up to the age of 15.
What would we call them if we did not call them geniuses?
However, even though they have been active in Japan, the U.S., and other countries for almost five years since their professional debut, they are still treated like an unknown amateur band, not given a chance to perform on stage at big music festivals with big crowds, and they are still not mentioned or talked about in the media.
This is the sad state of the world music industry today.
I am 63 and i know and love this band. Halca is amazing. fYI the first song is based on a Gary More song called Parisian sidewalks

One album at least was pushed by Bootsy Collins (he added spoken vocals) and Buckethead got involved with them too, although I think promotionally, unsure if he added anything musically. This was a few years ago on the album Ignition. They have some songs that are more traditional sounding too, perhaps "easy to digest", an example being Rising Moon from 2018, when they were uh, children. These are my 2 favorite song by them. Light in a darkness & Church. Sadly is not the type of music for everyone. Because they're not playing pop music. And there is no singer dancing or twerking.
