    I won't wade into the "who's better" debate. All I can say is I've been listening to Vai (and Satriani, and Johnson, and all the dudes in the big metal bands) for years, and I'm a fan of all of them. And right now, I'd rather listen to Asterism. They are not just technically great, but they write great stuff. This was a great analysis. Thank you.

    ASTERISM「Rising Moon 」MV (AL “The Session Vol.2”収録) - is required listening if you are going to react to ASTERISM. Also recorded when HAL-CA was about 16 ... its not just about playing ability ... or even tone. It is about performance! HAL-CA is just so much fun to watch. While other players may be able to sit on a stool and grind out similar tunes she simply does what she does so naturally. She does all this live (and recently did in the USA) basically proving this is not camera tricks or simply done in the studio. This is the real thing :) . Their latest "STARDOM" is also worth a look and a listen. ASTERISM deserves a LOT more recognition.

    There's the old expression "Wearing your heart on your sleeve". Asterism does it through their playing. Having one member in a band able to convey those feelings is magical, having a trio able to do it together is divine. I hope they can hang on and find a bigger following. It would be a shame to see them fall through the cracks. Thanks for the reaction.

    • @VladimirChupin
      @VladimirChupin 7 месяцев назад +2

      HAL-CA did some covers of both Steves. I think she did a pretty good job. I would even reinforce your statement: it's not "hard to compare," it's meaningless to compare. At the level where Stevie Ray Vaughn and Steve Vai are, you can't say that any guitarist can even be "better" than this. But the same can be said of HAL-CA: if we stay objective, we would not be able to bring any other guitarist and say that he/she is better than HAL-CA. Such things simply don't work at this level of perfection.
      In the end, it all boils down to "What do you listen to." I personally listen a lot to ASTERISM and never listen to Stevie Ray Vaughn or Steve Vai. That's just my personal taste. I just discovered yesterday that I listened to the whole GUERNICA album, in its entirety, almost a thousand times. 924, to be precise.

      @@VladimirChupin I agree. There are objective criteria upon which you can judge lesser guitarists. But, when you get to the level of these guys, it's kinda like picking the prettiest supermodel. No matter who you pick, you are not wrong. It comes down to personal preference.
      Are aware (have links) of any acoustic work by Hal-ca?

    This song is from their instrumental album Guernica+a. For context, Guernica was a small town which was completely bombed in the spanish civil war in 1937. Afterwards, Picasso made a very famous painting of it with the same title.
    My guessing, but I think every title on the album has a connection to that topic and event in some sorts.
    For me, the best progressive instrumental metal album I've ever heard. Created by 3 teens.

    • @VladimirChupin
      @VladimirChupin 7 месяцев назад +2

      I remember when I this album, GUERNICA, was released, HAL-CA and others talked a lot about it. How the concept appeared, what they thought about it, who composed what. And then I went to the Wikipedia article on the Bombing of Guernica, and it became clear that they actually describe the sequence of the events. The way Ric described it, is very good, only he did not know the context. People were in a church, praying, communing with God... And then suddenly they heard the howling of Luftwaffe warplanes, and their city was destroyed.
      I think when HAL-CA turns to her amp for a feedback, she tries to produce the sound of a dive-bomber.

    • @VladimirChupin
      @VladimirChupin 7 месяцев назад +3

      @@UltraHD.7 It seems HAL-CA was really deep into that story. For her it all started with Picasso painting, yes, but it seems she really studied the history afterwards.
      Also, Guernica is a sister-town of Hiroshima, I think. The specialists in war crimes say that the idea of bombing civilians has started with Guernica and ended with Hiroshima. And then people understood it's a bad idea. The Mayor of Hiroshima was once speaking about it, I think. So, the Japanese kids may even study it in school.

    Hal-ca is as good as any other guitarist. Or better! The whole trio are young but incredibly skilled. This whole In Studio session (5 or 6 songs) is superb and this song is a masterpiece. They were instrumental only but thy started adding vocals at the end of last year.

    The consideration should be how good was Steve Vai when HE was 16. If Hal-Ca is that good at 16, how good will she be 10-20 years down the road. It's relative.

    That statement is bogus Steve Via and Stevie Ray Vaughn are icons in their time both are excellent guitarists and will be remembered through the sands of time as well as all of the great's of the past. Although Haruka is a master at her trade as a fast shredder, I feel Indonesian guitarist Ayu Gusfanz is a much better technical soulful guitarist than Haruka but I do love them both. For his comment on band maid being the best I doubt that 100% they are way to poppy and mainstream crap. Lovebites on the other hand is the top of the line no one can compete with these amazing ladies. Let's not forget that Asterism is a 3-piece band and all 3 are phenomenal. Ayu Gusfanz is a single musician and has covered many of the greats of the past and began to compose her originals at the age of 10, she is 18 years old now and has a ton of music on her channel she is more of a progressive metal guitarist like her icon John Petrucci of Dream theater.
    Ayu Gusfanz Kamulyan ruclips.net/video/p98vHP3E8M0/видео.html BTW Ayu was 14 or 15 on this video which she released on her birthday on June

      Well, nobody knows if ASTERISM will be remembered through the sands of time, but I would say they already reached the level which guarantees they will not be forgotten.
      But it's meaningless to compare. At the level where Stevie Ray Vaughn and Steve Vai are, you can't say that any guitarist can be "better" than them. But at the same time, it cannot be said of HAL-CA as well. If we stay objective, we would not be able to bring any other guitarist and say that he/she is better than HAL-CA. I just discovered yesterday that I listened to the whole GUERNICA album, in its entirety, almost a thousand times. 924, to be precise.
      Regarding BAND-MAID vs. LOVEBITES comparison. There is this guy, L33Reacts, who said a very interesting thing: BAND-MAID is a "controlled chaos," while LOVEBITES is a very organized and ordered type of stuff. He said, they are really on the opposite sides of the music spectrum. As different styles as you can only think.
      From me personally, I would add that it's like to compare King Crimson to Iron Maiden. Who is better? Crazy question. King Crimson fans probably don't listen to Iron Maiden... or maybe they do. The same is true of the Iron Maiden fans: they believe Iron Maiden is the best band of all time, and what the heck is that King Crimson nonsense?
