I don't know much about Steve Vai or Stevie Ray Vaughn and who's better or not. What I know is, that Haruka is MY favorite guitarist today, because she can put so much feel and emotion in her playing like I've not seen elsewhere. And we don't even have to talk about her technical skills. Btw, their age in the original post were wrong. When recorded, Haruka was 16, Miyu 17 and Mio 19, so even younger than you thought. And yes, they wrote this themselves. Their follow up album "Guernica+a" is an instrumental metal masterpiece, please listen to their song "Church". Thanks 🤘🏻🙂
I have probably heard this 500 times now and it still takes my breath away every time I listen. What a fantastic composition and I happily wait for their future work.
It is not only the performance that is noteworthy, but also the musical talent that she and they composed, arranged and assembled this song by themselves at the age of about 15 that deserves more recognition!
I know exactly how you feel, I too was blown away the first time I saw Asterism(and I've seen many hard rock/heavy metal bands live , in my time when I was younger). I watched a Japanese music show that Asterism was on & they asked Hal-Ca(Haruka), how she became so good at guitar(?). She told them that once she learns a new song, she will then turn off all the lights and play it complete darkness. If she makes a mistake, she will start over again from the beginning until she gets it right.
The spotlight tends to be on the guitar player Haruka, but the brothers Mio and Miu are really amazing. They have been playing amazingly at local live shows since junior high school. I think they are the heart of this band.
Agree wholeheartedly. Haruka deserves all the attention and praise she gets, and more. But, the brothers are quite amazing too, as you say and definitely carry their weight as part and parcel of ASTERISM. All three are also very nice and humble people, which at least for me, adds to the reasons to be a fan. I am so happy to see this fine trio seems to finally be getting the level of recognition they deserve. Thanks, Ric, for showcasing them And, if I may: let's just agree that Haruka may not be Steve Vai yet, but give her a few more years.
One of your colleagues here on YT also put it quite well. Steve Vai has a granddaughter who was 16 at the time and is Japanese. :) But all joking aside, there are arguments to mention Haruka/Hal-Ca in the same breath as Stevie or Steve. I have yet to see anyone in the current generation who is one with her instrument and can tell stories with it like this young lady. And the same goes for the two brothers at her side. 🔥🤘🏻 And they have been doing this for quite some time. If I'm right, the three of them got together when Haruka was 12. And this song here she wrote herself around that time! By the way, she got her first guitar for Christmas when she was 10. What did we do at that age? 🤭 These 3 musicians are very, very special! Be sure to check out their studio live version of 'Church'. _____________________ 「 _"Our rock never dies ever. Forever!"_ 」 - from *BAND-MAID* - 'Manners' 🎶🕊
LMAO, these kids are Cream (Baker/Bruce/Clapton) minus the ego wars and drugs. Cream (1966-68) will be surpassed by these kids before they are through. Forget the Steve's, Hal-Ca gives me the same vibe I got when I saw Hendrix live twice. She is special, just like Tina S was, before she dropped out. Hal-Ca makes that Yamaha/Pacific sing. MIYU had that 7 string bass made exclusively for by ESP at 17. Thanks for the MIO compliments. He keeps these 2 beasts in check and never gets any shine time. Check out Scuttle Buttin live in a Texas club when they when they were the same ages for a SRV comparison. HAL-CA is the result you get if you combined Midori & Miyako of Lovebites into one person. Remember her and MIYU both had homework to do after this set in a small club, let that sink in for a moment!!!!
It is a perfect piece of music and wait until you hear "Church." Epic. For my money, Hal-ca is the best shredder going. I give Kanami props as the best all-around guitarist. Both those girls deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as the greatest like Satriani, Beck, Vai, Stevie Ray, Eddie, Segovia, etc.
HaL -Ca was a fast shedder then , now she even faster . Bucket head was so impressed with her proformance that he played a couple of sounds on their Albums . 😊
They call her Steve Vai's granddaughter . She's older now and is probably the fastest Female Shredder in Japan . Bucket Head was so Impressed with the band , that he played a couple of songs on their Album .🤘
Technically, Vai has probably invented more ideas than Hal-Ca, but in terms of expression, she has, in my opinion, already surpassed him. And she is technically perfect. It's just insane. It's those last two minutes that always shock people who haven't heard her play. And thanks for pointing out how great the brothers are. This is my favorite power trio since Cream.
This is from their first album Ignition. Bootsy Collins was impressed with them and he produced 2 of the tracks. Also, Bootsy brought his friend Buckethead for guest shredding in these 2 tracks. The guitarist wrote the bulk of the album when she was 13.
HAL-CA is magical ... I'd rather listen to and watch 8 and a half minutes of her than Vai or Vaughn. In real life she is very shy and humble ... which is in stark contrast to her performance persona ... it simply adds to her charm. It is almost a shame to have MIYU (Ba.), and MIO (Dr.) paired with her and not be the centerpiece of some other band ... but HAL-CA shares the stage very well. Asterism ... named for a group of stars :) .
Steve who? My good friend and fellow Maidiac Robert only speaks the truth. If anyone thinks Vai is better that is fine but l will promise you this Steve was not this good when he was 16. She has a signature style which is the mark of any great guitarist. You hear them and you don't confuse them with anyone else. Asterism is tremendous and they don't even break my personal top five. Which just goes to show the level of talent coming out of Japan and imo why the ladies (mostly) of Nippon are eating western bands' lunch. Rock isn't dead. It simply changed addresses.
She in her 20’s now they just had a special upload was fun to watch them play and just having fun on live HAL-CA is one of my favorite guitar 🎸 players ever and love MIYU on bass he freaking monster on bass that 7 string bass is freaking awesome 👏 and MIO on drums 🥁so freaking awesome 👏 they are so good 👍👍👍 cheers
Here a other amazing band they are amazing btw the not from Japan but they from South Korean don’t know if you heard them yet but I sent you a live video of them 👍😊🎸🎸🎸🥁🎤
" SHE'S , SHE'S , SHE'S WOW ! " just about covers Hal-Ca's skill and musicality - a deep dive is a must ( think how good she is now that she's all grown up ! ) Look forward to more
I have been jamming this band for about a year now and the chops they have at such a young age is amazing! So much maturity in note choice and musicality. While she is not at Vai level she has a much more approachable sound than Vai

Haruka composed this when she was 14, only 4 years after getting her first guitar. SRV never wrote anything his entire life even close to Dawn. Not hating on Vaughn, but facts are facts. They even covered Scuttlebuttin and SLAYED IT.💪🏻🤘🏻
The annoying thing is that Hal-Ca (and another young female guitarist Lisa-X) were both better guitarists (at age 10!) than me after playing for 30 years!!!
Ok ric now compare another 16 year old at the time to this Ludwig van Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata ( 3rd Movement ) Tina S Cover please you tell me which one is better
That statement is bogus Steve Via and Stevie Ray Vaughn are icons in their time both are excellent guitarists and will be remembered through the sands of time as well as all of the great's of the past. Although Haruka is a master at her trade as a fast shredder, I feel Indonesian guitarist Ayu Gusfanz is a much better technical soulful guitarist than Haruka but I do love them both. For his comment on band maid being the best I doubt that 100% they are way to poppy and mainstream crap. Lovebites on the other hand is the top of the line no one can compete with these amazing ladies. Let's not forget that Asterism is a 3-piece band and all 3 are phenomenal. Ayu Gusfanz is a single musician and has covered many of the greats of the past and began to compose her originals at the age of 10, she is 18 years old now and has a ton of music on her channel she is more of a progressive metal guitarist like her icon John Petrucci of Dream theater. Ayu Gusfanz Kamulyan ruclips.net/video/p98vHP3E8M0/видео.html BTW Ayu was 14 or 15 on this video which she released on her birthday on June
Whoa let's calm down there with the vid titles, ahem....better than...? Congrats, she can play power chords and tap with a bunch of gain and whammy bar.
So if you saw the comment that turned me onto this band, the comparison was made there. THAT was what I was also rescting to. She has got talent but she has a way to go before she hits that prestigious level. But she's off to a good start!
i love this. they still have the time to get the credit they deserve cause this one its one of the best songs ever
I don't know much about Steve Vai or Stevie Ray Vaughn and who's better or not. What I know is, that Haruka is MY favorite guitarist today, because she can put so much feel and emotion in her playing like I've not seen elsewhere. And we don't even have to talk about her technical skills.

Hal-ca is 21 next month. Try Asterism's In Studio session, especially CHURCH - incredible, close-up, HQ video and superb audio.
And she has a beautiful voice!!! She's starting to sing now as well...

great reaction. hal-ca is something else, one of those rare musicians, who can become one with their instrument, not just some "wunderkind".

What a stupid clickbait title. No, she's not "better" than Vai or SRV. That's just silly.

Aw, c'mon! Just a little bit.
@@ricdreacts steve vai is a freak. he plays guitar 12 hours a day and has been doing it for 4 decades. once she does that, maybe.
As far as the title goes… no. Just no.
Decent guitarist but why the click bait comparisons?
