Exactly he could do so much more by being a promoter for their sounds. Take them on tour, bring them onto your album, up their exposure and let them do what they wanna do.
Whats crazy is, the problem is just Drake. Because all throughout the 00s, IMO, if you listened to rap, there were 2 people 2-3 who you ALWAYS either heard a track from, or you heard them on somebody elses track: Wayne, T Pain, and Chris Brown. You couldnt listen to a single song practically in that time period without hearing one of those 3 at least once. And if they werent on the original, their would probably be a remix with them featured. Drakes problem is a bit of a mix. On one hand, dudes kinda like Kanye. Hes not signing people to actually build up a label. Hes more so signing a support team to help his own projects. You sign to him and youre music career wont go anywhere because most of your work, your lyrics, whatever, if its good enough, theyll end up going to him instead because hes the boss. The other is that hes kinda like Em in that, he overshadows the people hes on tracks with. When Wayne, Pain, and Brown are on tracks, they feel like they compliment the artist they are making music with. When you heard an artist with Em on the track, Em always feels like his bars are more powerful and overshadow the other persons. The big difference is, Em will actually tell the other person "hey, you should work on this some more". He actually wants people to improve, and this has been stated in many interviews with people that worked with him. Em also isnt singing someones praises heavy on social media so it doesnt feel like he tossed them aside once he was done. Because most of those people who listen to those songs Drake is featured, are Drake fans and Drake fans only. They listen, but will never check that persons stuff again. The last thing is that...Drake eventually betrays most people that have a close relationship with him. Most of these guys were too new that they never actually built up anything with Drake. But if you been around him long enough it seems everyone who hes had a friendship with in the industry, at one point he betrays them
He never marketed he never pushed his stuff no more and his sound is repetitive, with drake on the track it adds balance. PND could drop a album right now and it would be ok, maybe some songs have playback feature. But if he drops a full album with drake, even if he the one thag write some of drake verses, it will be highly checked out and more replay value
He literally is successful, still making his own music. Still writing music for other artists. He literally just dropped another album and all of us women are obsessed with it. He isn’t a artist we should be pitying. He’s doing great. His pockets are full. Even if he were to retire right now he’d be fine.

4:19 you also got to realise not many Uk rappers have charted on billboard so that’s not fair to come at Giggs for that, also Drake has helped many Uk rappers chart on the Uk charts that wouldn’t have if he didn’t give them a look, even Dave got drake on a remix to one of his earliest tracks and he’s now sold out the O2 twice and headlining major music festivals
Something i don't see anyone mentioning, is that there are moments Drake was on the decline. He got someone like 2 Chainz, Meek, Future and Ross to collab. And he dropped some tea about a controversy. And the Drake lyric deep divers making the song blow up.
At least 5 of those artists who apparently never charted before have massive fan bases and have absolutely charted in their respected countries. Gigs, Jorja Smith and Wizkid especially are absolutely massive artists in the UK, and Wizkid in the whole of Africa (home to 1.5 billion people). Just for context, I am 27 and Goggs had the biggest song in the UK before I started school. Literally around 20 years ago. Wizkid has been massive in the UK for around 10 years, and Jorja Smith already had a hit song (probably number 1 song, though I can’t be sure) over here before Drake. Drake takes existing talent and gives it to his fan base, he’s not helping anyone career, he’s siphoning their talent. Also, Sampha is from my hometown, Croydon. He had an incredible album around 10 years ago, He didn’t even record a new song for drake, Drake just used the same song that Sampha made when I was in high school. (Not sampled, used and put a rap over it).

As a Brit, I don’t think this curse applies to the U.K. scene. I don’t think the Drake co-sign backfired with any of their careers, domestically at least. He put money in a lot of money people’s pockets and not just musically but also in the acting world through the tv drama ‘Top Boy’ - that show meant a lot to the scene culturally, and those actors careers have gone to new heights thanks to Drake supporting the culture. As he know he was an actor and roles for Black British actors as slim so many leave for America. @@geordiejones5618 that’s what he did with Kendrick but that still didn’t work.
The drake effect he goes and steals your wave and then leaves your career to die

Something i don't see anyone mentioning, is that there are moments Drake was on the decline. He got someone like 2 Chainz, Meek, Future and Ross to collab. And he dropped some tea about a controversy. And the Drake lyric deep divers making the song blow up.
The curse almost got Kendrick. Glad he had people around him that helped him dodge a bullet by becoming more independent.
Since its Drake, we know it was predatory behavior. At first these rappers saw it as good thing because they gained likes and made good money.
