There is out there fanfiction of Harry Potter being replaced with a magic teddy bear that Ron or Hermione throw at problems and most of the franchise still works.
I... Really want to read that. Link?
+DFTGamer xD
+DFTGamer I need to know about this.
+DFTGamer Sorry Mr. potato head not a teady bear.
www.fanfiction.net/s/6440334/1/
DFTGamer That made some very good points. Though in some of the later books it wouldn't quite work. Thank you for sharing it with me/us.
I never thought I'd see the day when Keanu Reeves would be dubbed "the women's bathroom of cinema". Crazy times...
I see you ware saying "crazy times" before it was cool. Nice.
@@user-pu6pn8vt5d You mean... I'm COOL?! 🤯 (faints from happiness) 😄
"Quidditch, or quit it." my new qute to my friends in relationships.
I like to lie and say harry potter did say it
I like how Harry Potter makes fun of itself by pointing out Neville Longbottom was almost the chosen one instead of Harry.
And ironically why Neville Longbottom is actually the far more sympathetic character and the far better wizard.
I would've preferred a story about Neville over Harry, to be honest.
Neville would have definitely made a better story.
I know right. And it would have been awesome with the 4 marauders alive (Peter Pettigrew in jail)
Neville Longbottom & The Broken wrist
Neville Longbottom & The Chandelier
Neville Longbottom & The book he should have stroked
Neville Longbottom & The Night he got in
Neville Longbottom & The Luna Boner
Neville Longbottom & The other guy Handing out towels in the loo
Neville Longbottom & The train Harry wasn't on
Neville Longbottom & The day he realised he was Awesome
The neutral face effect is called the Kuleshov Effect, where if you keep your face completely neutral, the viewer perceives the emotion that he/she thinks fits the most in that scenario and subsequently believes that the actor is fitting for the role, or "perfect"
Do you still care?
This isn't the Kuleshov effect. Kuleshov effect is where the audience perceives the emotions of a particular shot based on the shot that directly preceded it; it's an omnipresent editing technique that conveys emotional context through order of shots.
Keanu is the most universally quoted actor. Ever. "Woah".
Yeah, but Neo totally stole that line from "Bill & Ted's..."
...whoa.
I am an FBI agent!!!!
Whoa...
Not as good as Owen Wilson's "Wow"
But Keanu's only quoting Joey Lawrence
I keep saying Keanu is a very good PHYSICAL actor. He just isn't as buff or as badass as most other actors that rely on that talent. Next time you watch Constantine, try to notice all the ways he acts other than with his voice and face.
+Efreeti Constantine is definitely underrated. It's not a great film, but it's at least worth watching and enjoyable. And I totally agree with what you're saying about Keanu's physical acting - the way he carries himself depending on his role very much conveys the kind of character he is in that movie. It's a good acting trait, but it's understandable why people would consider him to be merely mediocre or worse since most people judge actors based on the way they say the lines and what their face looks like while they do that.
How well has this aged?
Yep, he works very very hard to be able to, reload a specific gun, for example, where for other actors it gets reloaded off screen (or never).
And that's why the voiceless videogame character is so successful
+Nicolas Palou Gordon Freeman.
+kyle magaro Every Elder Scrolls hero, all Fallout players before F4, the Grey Warden from DA Origins and the PC in both Kotor games.
+Mosco Monster GTA2, GTA3, Just Cause 1, ...
+Mosco Monster I thought of that while watching the video. But isn't Cloud from FF7 a counterpoint to that? He talks and even has a little bit of an attitude.
pig potty Yeah. I guess it is not a dichotomy, many kinds of characters can be successful, it's just that the voiceless character is particularly successful. Also, as a side note, many critics of FF7 revolve around how Cloud speaks too much.
This aged well, he did end up being a huge action film star. And that stone face thing is very true in the john wick films, he literally has no other facial expression
He sells the emotion through his glare and his voice though.
He does look angry a few times, though.
It's not that Keanu Reeves isn't capable of showing emotions. He's plenty emotional in "Constantine." It's just that he does that steely-eyed calm so well. Also, it's not so much that emotionlessness allows us to imagine ourselves as that character. It's that we admire someone who can keep it together in extreme situations.
+Lee Brown i dont get it either. Will Smith etc would have RUINED the matrix
Agreed. Completely, COMPLETELY different kind of actor... :D
Not entirely correct, i love quoting Neo... when people ask me why i keep commenting i say... *because i choose to* hehe, you know from the final fight? heh.........However i only started doing that AFTER i first saw this video last year, meh.
Have you seen John Wick?
Oh no, definitely, he can show horrible, fake emotions with the sincerity of the automated voice I get every time I call my cell phone company.
"I'm Harry potter dammit!!!"
What quote is that referencing?
@@HoneyMike @4:00
@@SlingerMarshall I don't get it
Mike the quote is Micheal yelling it and it’s a bit after 4:00
Wish fulfillment? That's stupid, it's not like I go around calling my self the chosen one or something. That would be...
huh
So... Bungie really knew what they were doing when they made Master Chief a silent hero, huh
And Valve with Gordon Freeman.
Daniel K and funnily enough, every protagonist in the main pokemon games
Now only if games could create experiences as powerful as The Matrix..
Peter Park Metal Gear Solid says... I'm just a box.
pkshd no no the box says that lol
isn't this the plot of the LEGO movie?
+Kwesi Marcano Complete with the protagonist being the neutral mask of a generic lego minifig.
+Kwesi Marcano the LEGO movie was more of a deconstruction of this idea in the first and second act it follows the afterhours video completely then in the beginning of the third act Vitruvius reveals that he made the special up to give people hope and later Emmett realized that it didn't matter and that everyone was special weather they save the world or not. because their is only one of you that ever will exist and live the life you live it may not be glamours or decide the fate of the universe but is still amazing in itself. this was why Emmett was able to reconcile with lord business at the end and bring creativity out of the LEGO people
Luke says a lot of quotable stuff...I just can't remember any of it right now. Noooooooo! Oh, there we go, that's one of them.
+Greg. Sym. womprats.
+Greg. Sym. "this droid has a bad motivator!" is what I say whenever a electronic doesn't work.
+Greg. Sym. "I care."
"But I was gonna go [somewhere] to buy power converters!" I quote that line all the time.
I'm a Jedi, like my father before me.
OMG This also ties in with Lord of the Rings series and how Frodo is the most boring character of all, but Sam is super fun, almost so that I doubted who the main character was by the end of the books/movies.
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Tolkien sees Sam as the hero of the books. Frodo may be the protagonist, but that's about the POV and storytelling choices. Within the universe it's Sam's show and Frodo is just "the guy who happens to be holding the ring"
3:58 That's a REALLY good point, I have never quoted any of the main characters from those movies.
It's always the supporting cast that gets the good lines. Hmmm.
Woah!
Kinda broke that one, but still a good point.
Its not who i am underneath but what i do that defines me , Batman Begins quote by batman , so yeah
Da Mitch But wasn't that told to HIM by a side character?
this guys got a weird bestiality thing going on here
WRONG!! Look at Dirty Harry; Go ahead, make my day!! Completely ignorant idea.
The concept of a bland "dumb" hero predates cinema by...well, centuries. Look at Charles Dickens. How many blank slate main characters did he have who were just there to have other characters provide them (and through them the audience) with exposition and backstory? Same with Shakespeare? Same with Victor Hugo? Hell, in a book called "The Three Musketeers", the main character isn't even one of the three; it's a boy who knows nothing and just sort of stumbles into gigantic treason plots. They can still be interesting characters, sure, but storytellers have always used protagonists who will ask the questions the audience will ask, understand things at the pace of the audience. You could say that the Keanu factor is merely the next stage of this narrative element.
The most hardcore H.P. Lovecraft fan wouldn't be able to name a single character from At the Mountains of Madness, yet the book is still revered as one of the important horror books of all time. All because the characters are PURPOSEFULLY blank slates to serve as our avatars in the story
@@adrianmedeiros8431 not one name? I guess becoming a podiatrist was the wrong career choice.
"So, how I about I give you the finger and you give me my fucking phone call"
-This and what comes before it is totally quotable, argument is void.
Good dialogue doesn't make a good character, it just makes a good writer.
Also "So, how I about I give you the finger and you give me my fucking phone call" isn't that clever or transcendent, just badass... And a kind of angsty teen badass, if you ask me.
kkonstantinosss2 So quotable in fact, that you misquoted it
makcheekan I was aware but I didn't change it because it's minor.
Yeah. Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I may have a better one. How about, I give you the finger
(Gives Finger)
(Agent Grunts (which is funny))
and you give me my phone call.
***** "There is no spoon" is not said by Neo, but by the bald child instead.
You actually proved the point that the other characters are more quotable with that
***** True. But He is kind of quoting the kid.
But well I don´t really care why Matrix is such a great film, I am content with it beaing incredibly good
I am amazed and a little dumbfounded on how well the Lego Movie clearly says what this video pulls out of movies...
That analogy of the stick figure woman and keanu Reeves was fucking brilliant, I really wasn't sure where you were going with that.
Isn't it just the everyman principle? There's almost always a character that is more 'normal' than the rest so audiences can relate to them. It's a deliberate insertion.
"Everyman" characters can still be played with emotion and animus. Keanu is a mannequin, eminently poseable, but ultimately plastic. That's what they're saying, that his style of "everyman" makes it somehow easier to insert yourself into his place.
Exactly. What do we remember from Neo? "Whoa." Who has the great lines? Agent Smith, Morpheus, Trinity, Joey Pants. This stuff started in the Post-Arnold action movies.
Julia-6 The only lines Neo "has" that I remember are the ones the RiffTrax guys gave him. "I'm a LITTLE teapot, short and STOUT!"
Why do you fight? BECAUSE I CHOOSE TO!
yep
Anyone notice that since John Wick you don’t hear as much criticism of Keanue Reeves?
It took 8 minutes but at least they figured it out. Now if only the rest of humanity could wake up to the cold yet crisp reality that we aren't "the one" we are only one part of all that is one.
Do you get the irony in your statement?
but shouldnt we strive to be the one? the person that will leave behind a legacy, some one that gives others hope that they can someday be the one as well? idk, just a thought...
hp azn I have no interest in striving towards such fruitless goals.
Samuel Cright then leave. We don't need the likes of YOU here. xD
Trevor Williams I live now not later.
1:44 Scott McCloud's Understanding Comics is amazing :D
yes it is
saddest part is. this is all pretty much entirely true. We all want to be the stare, in our own show. and pretend that the thousands and billions of other people in this world, are just side kicks, or mentors in our movie. When the truth is, because of that. We'll be soon forgotten, shortly after we are gone.
***** I think that's why they call it 'blissful ignorance'. If you just don't acknowledge that there is, actually a choice, then it, somehow doesn't matter.
John Doe "I've learned to stop questioning everything and just live and believe what benefits me" That's why the world is fucked up.
Wodinn Yes, it's all true. But also very simple and actually not that... special. Yes, we like entertainment. We like adventures. We like to relate to fictional heroes. We like to have idols. How is that in any way sad? When you see children play on the playground, do you think: "Oh man, that's so sad. They will never go on a real treasure hunt or fight against aliens." No, because these children actually LIVE an adventure in this play. Why else would they be so excited and have so much fun?
When I was a kid I imagened to be a superhero often. That helped me through alot of stress. That gave me courage and confidence in moments when I needed it most.
So, it's actually GOOD that we tick that way. Or else we'd just be depressed all the time. That's what would be sad.
Wodinn The saddest part is that people like you actually believe this.
We are all the star in our own show, the billions others are just the sidekicks and mentors and antagonist and love interests of our lives. And that is the same for everyone else.
We are not that statists of our own lives. We are the directors and main characters in personal union.
Traumglanz sad part is you think you know me, from a single youtube comment. Get real.
Keanu's style of acting makes him brilliant though. Like Clint Eastwood or Don Knotts, some actors can pull off having a single note that they always play in every film/show and some, like Kristen Stewart, cannot.
Ryan Gosling can do it too
***** I would agree, to a lesser extent. Really his note is "if you're wearing panties, I'm going to make them wet the moment I arrive onscreen."
when he talked about Keanu's only face i automatically remember Clint Eastwood, but i like "Clint's face" better because it's not a neutral face, he looks like he is always mad at something.
Augusto Baretta Malenotti Yup. Then we have the actors with the same mood in all of their movies, like Samuel L. Jackson, Jack Nicholson, and Joe Pesci. I bet most scenes in their movies are written parting from their moods, while other actors are told what to express during their scenes.
Maicol Mallers Of course, we do have to consider typecasting. Samuel L. Jackson has played quieter, subtler characters before, but we tend to either see him as angry badass or stoic badass. Joe Pesci gets angry and volatile and Jack Nicholson gets crazy, but are they like that because that's all they can do, or are they like that because those are the roles they keep getting?
Hmm. This is possibly why I have never connected with many mainstream movies. I absolutely don't care about empathising with the characters. I don't watch films for wish fulfilment. I just want a good story with interesting characters.
I can't help but think of Master Chief from Halo when watching this. Think about it: why do we never see his face? Why are his few lines of dialogue delivered in an emotionless monotone? Why is he seemingly invincible, perfect in every way, able to solve any problem, no outward flaws whatsoever(also known as a Mary Sue)? Why is there a biblical reference as his codename, alluding to him being yet another Christ figure, because we don't have nearly enough of those in modern media? Why is he still considered by many to be one of the best video game characters ever despite the fact that by all accounts he's barely a character?
Bungie has said a few times that they did this on purpose, so that they player could project themselves onto MC easily. That's also why in ODST and Reach, the main character has even less dialogue or none at all. Hell, many games have silent heroes for this same reason (Zelda, Half Life, Metroid mostly and so on).
***** MC is often compared to Jesus Christ since he saves the world. Also his name is John, which can refer to many different people in the Bible such as John the Baptist or John the disciple who wrote the book of Revelation which contains the end of the world in it. His spartan number 117 can also refer to a Biblical verse. Bungie many uses of the number 7 could refer to the Genesis story of the creation of Earth which took 6 days and on the 7th day, God rested. Many, many references to the Bible can be found. Do a simple Google search of "halo biblical references".
same as doomguy they didnt want to give him a name... they wanted the player to be the marine thats what halo is based off... 1 guy who fights aliens alone>sort off saving the world by himself
Everyone knows that. It's been mentioned so goddamn often by the developers themselves that you'd have to be purposefully ignorant to not know that.
miciso666 Doomguy was the predecessor to the main character from Marathon and Chief from Halo. His 'silent protagonist fighting off hordes of aliens' schtick directly inspired the Bungie games. Oh, and Doomguy has been given various names by people who made spinoff shit and obviously didn't 'get it.'
Doomguy, ready to frag.
Its the Same reason why the Emperor from warhammer 40k is viewed the same way (as a paragon); they are perpetuals, without these characters in the story there would be no point to it and so they will always be a part of the story, in one form or another, either as a slowly dying husk or as a crazy war hero. These type of characters are something that we can have fun with because even if we cant achieve their abilities or powers, we can still strive to be more like them; to be unflinching in the face of defeat and change the universe/world as much as we can using what little we have. I think it boils down to how well and how much these characters influence their own fictions/universes.
6:26 He just described the plot of "the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya"... =P
Yooo ur right! That speech sounds like the monologue the main character gives in the beginning of the first episode
ok did anyone else see dan faces when michael got all philosophical its like dan fell in love or found his soulmate

I remember Harry Potter saying "Well you see it changes everyday" about the news and "Let's end this the way we started it Tom together" I don't know I'm just a nerd but I think that he's unique
Probably because you're unique and can recognise other aspects of characters beyond smart quips and cool platitudes.
I remember "HE WAS THEIR FRIEND!!!one!"
Because hes the main character in a plot: he needs to be a character, though bland.. he needs emotionally required bursts of emotion. Such as during the various deaths, same as Luke with the father scene, or Neo when trinity dies.
Even if so, when do you EVER quote those lines in a real life scenario? Barely ever.
7PlayingWithFire7 i disagree though we might express it differently, what's being expressed is the same, don't you want to to "insert task here" together with someone rather than alone? you don't even have to have ever expressed it to know the expression is valid and thus in harmony with you and everyone elses natural responses to challenge, and we all know the same about the news as well, the only reason it's not normal to point those things out is because they are so blatant, but since they do we see them as a reflection of our own experience and thus harmonize and sympathization comes more easily when it's easy to see that one is huaman, of which i am also.
Fuck. I love this channel SO MUCH (just found it, and I'm so glad I did)

Wish fulfillment. Make perfect sense. Especially in a service based society where everyone thinks their very important people.
Oh, Cracked and your misleading titles...
"I am a Jedi, like my father before me." One of the most quoted lines in the Star Wars series & it's from Luke.
i think being the one is not only the special feeling you get but also the idea that someone will come and give you guidance, will wake u up to your life purpose, showing that there is a superior force, there is a meaning in life.

That's hilarious check!? Call 911!
What about characters like Deadpool? Or Gintoki? They're interesting and they have large personality quirks and I guess you could say that Gintoki is surrounded by more interesting people (depending on your opinion) but Deadpool is literally the life of the party. Sure he wears a mask but they even animate the eyes so you can see his emotion. Yet he's becoming a very popular superhero
+Mimzy66 Not really a good example. It's because Deadpool was originally a side or supporting character in the Wolverines movie and became so popular and iconic due to excellent matching of Deadpool and Ryan Reynolds that he gotten his own movie. Otherwise, if someone else had played Deadpool and bombed it, he would not have gotten his own movie.
Just because a very interesting character gotten his/her own movie doesn't mean they have to auto-transform into the same emotionless blob like the original main characters like how the Jurassic Park 1->2 did (and look how that ended up). If they changed up the personalities, then it would be a complete lie to who they are/were. It's the fact that they are so popular which is why the creators decide to give them their very own title to star in (most likely to "cash in" that popularity like how Nintendo did with Tharja from Fire Emblem Awakening). Like Nagato Yuuki from Haruhi.
And as for Gintoki, he is part of an almost complete fantasy anime. Fantasies that strays far beyond the "normal contemporary" lives that we all live in. That's why a lot of animes from Japan that doesn't have/represent down-to-earth normal male protagonists in a down-to-earth lifestyle tends to have those cocky, brash idiots or cool, slick and badass characters that has fantastical phenomenal powers/abilities. But if you are taking a "normal average guy" from a "normal average life" into a crazy situation, that's how the whole emotionless protagonists play out usually i.e. Kyon from Haruhi or Keitaro from Love Hina.
Let's put it this way.
Fantasy (i.e. hero slaying the demon king VS Real Life (normal high school student)
Obviously they going to make the main characters in fantasies the most interesting since that's how they either 1) take the most advantage of that world/reality/situation to its fullest, 2) That's how many people dream of doing or acting because they could become someone NOT themselves.
For something closer to reality, and yet be surreal (like a mysterious girl appeared out of the sky and into your lap or you gotten hold of a robot/mecha), they put a normal emotionless/less developed main character so that they could be a molding clay or a "one size fits all" avatar that almost ANYONE can put themselves into.
Although there have been a slight few examples such as Kirito from SAO, but he was outfitted with a pro gamer setup due to satisfying a gratifying wish fulfillment to male audiences of an unbeatable main character that they can put themselves into (that and to take "full advantage" of Asun- err I mean of the world he is in)
But of course this logic is mainly for anime since it doesn't really apply to real life movies, since that's mainly based on the actor's skills rather than due to intentional directing/scripting.
Great point that really destroys this whole argument that "the main character is bland". Deadpool 1 works because the supporting cast is, largely, straight-men to his antics. It should be noted that Deadpool is rarely alone though, and does best when there is a straight man next to him.
Books let us feel important. Whenever I read, I always find myself unconsciously imagining myself as the main character even when I don't know the full extent of what is going on.
That was unexpectedly deep
I was about to say the same thing.
Eric Lucero
Me too
This era was peak RUclips.
We didn't know how good we had it...
I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them.
Understanding Comics is like the best meta graphic novel ever.
"No. That's not true! THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!!"
Luke has a lot of quotable dialogue, though in most cases, yes, the audience avatar winds up being the load.
"I am a Jedi, like my father before me."
+Mac Kirkman
"I wanted to go to the tashi station to puck up some power converters!" ;)
Jack Landry Is that the exact line?
The Lego Movie took this idea and ran with it.
Chia LaQueef? Awesome, finally someone who dislikes Shia LaBouef as much as me.
There's a strange irony at work here.
I'm sure you didn't actually mean to take it this deep, but your comment itself implies the notion that you're the only person who doesn't like the actor Shia LeBouef, or rather no one doesn't like him as much as you...until this video. Thing is though...doesn't that notion strangely go with the topic of what this video's talking about?
Wanting to embrace this idea that you're "the one", even if its "the one" of Shia haters, despite the overwhelmingly obvious reality that you're probably not. lol
This accurately predicted John Wick
Thumbs up for recommending Understanding Comics. Along with Making Comics they're very good books :]
Also, I think this is the best After Hours video
These guys are obviously actors, BUT I LOVE THEM. They're really good with their theories. They are like the Mythbusters, not the best actors, but they still are cool and bring up some cool ideas.
Well, they are actually the writers/editors of Cracked.com. Do they occasionally exaggerate their personalities...yes. But I wouldn't call them actors. Just listen to the podcast, they are exactly the same in that medium as well. That is my pedant point for the day.
MrJustSomeGuy87 They read from a script with prethought out emotions and blocking. That makes them actors. If they lack those things that makes them improve actors. If they write the script that just makes them writers as well as actors. Though its still a good show.
Tom Bruno Wow, how literal of you.
so by that logic I could say that you are obviously a writer. You use words and you type them down to convey a point to other people. So either you are a writer, or some kind of amateur writer.
Only thing is, you are not a writer...you are writing, but you aren't a writer (in any meaningful sense of the term).
No one is disputing that they are acting, but they are not "actors."
Actully I was published in undergrad for a poem (that was actully pretty bad) as well as two articles in a local paper and I am currently working on something about the role of antidepressants in fibromyalgia. But that's not the point, they are putting on a show where they are trying to convey there emotions and thoughts. Playing a charature of yourself is still acting. Do you think the one is actully that dumb or the other is that much of a jackass? I highly doubt it so he acts dumb. They are all good at there jobs, which require writing an editing but also acting.
Tom Bruno your reading comprehension leaves something to be desired. I said "No one is disputing that they are acting, but they are not "actors""
The fact that you HAPPEN to be a writer also completely ignores the point that I was confining my comments to the only information I had about you (namely, that you were a commenter on youtube). Commenters on youtube are not writers even though they write.
btw, it's "their", not "there"
And, I completely understand if this is the end of this exchange because I have become the guy who is correcting the other guys spelling.
And Fight Club makes the narrator neutral and "boring" but makes Tyler super cool. But since The narrator is *Spoiler* then you're super cool and shit.
"I'M HARRY POTTER DAMNIT!" Is my new favorite After Hours impression.
The Scott Mcloud Understanding Comics reference hits my soul. I will never stop watching After Hours!
This is #extremely well written and delivered.
I just discovered you folks and you are refreshingly brilliant. Do you all collaborate on the script or do you each specialize in your own parts?

I'd rather be rich, but not famous or important. Fame comes with it a distinct lack of privacy and a judgement of me that I don't want. Importance is just responsibility, and I don't want to be responsible for too many things. Or people.
Also, the neutral face thing is somewhat similar to the reasoning behind Hello Kitty having no mouth. She reflects whatever mood you're feeling, was the idea.
Katie's face when Soren is talking about stick figures having little pees...classic!
People say you have to go to the light when you die you must find the light.

Yes, yes, the inner machinations of your mind are an enigma.
What if *I* told you, Neo never said "What if I told you" in the movie.
By the way, most of what you said makes no sense at all.
Nothing can go beyond lightspeed. Humans have limitations, since Superman is a comic book character, the laws of physics don't apply to him. Also, you said that "There is no god" and that "You are a god", that implies that humans don't exist at all, including you. And we don't care about the so-called superhero you want to write about. The only two things you said that I believe is that "You control your own fate" and that "Anything could happen". But keep in mind that "Anything" doesn't mean "Everything".
Holy shit, I was totally gonna say they ripped Scott McLoud's understanding comics. Then they indirectly give him credid. Kudos, I'll subscribe.
Have to disagree with the notion this video is trying to condition people in their minds though. Each and every individual should feel that he/she is the "one" because we are all unique in one way or the other. Just because we might not have super human abilities or have contributed something revolutionary to society does not mean we are just another person on the face of the planet. To be more you need to believe you are more than you are, you need to have faith in yourself and hence it will motivate you to become more. Don't ever be little yourselves people.
That is true! Everyone likes to think they're a hero or super significant. Although we're not single-handedly saving New York City or winning the lottery, we're all significant somehow. We've all changed the lives of the people we care about and it goes even deeper than that if we wanna get the butterfly effect involved.
Yes we are all unique just like everybody else.- Margaret Mead
is that what they tell at school?!
no, you don't, you need to pipe down and get with the fucking program. If you do not honestly assess your place in the universe, you will be a tool used by your betters, who have no such illusions.
ALEX GIBSON
use those tools to service yourself instead that or you cold do the other interpretation of that phrase.
Star Wars goes even deeper than that. There are TWO blank slates: Luke and Anakin.
One is the most important hero of all time and the other, the most terrifying villain. The message is: you're so important that everything and everyone is dependant on your choices.
like watching 4 people high on redbull trying to get everything out of their chest before the next person does
how does one get high on red bull?
Folopolis Mostly by its main stimulant, caffeine. It's an upper.
liquidpig Ah, I see, it all makes sense now.
"I got a jar of dirt"
I'm 40. This was made 10 years ago. I am the target audience for this content.
It's called the Everyman. This idea has been around as a literary theory since the Middle Ages (and, if you study ancient literature, it is present in most stories). In LotR, Sam even remarks that most heroes are regular people who get sucked into extraordinary situations.
You just explained just like…ALL of anime.
HOLY SHIZZ! That's totally true though! Who does everyone love? Huh? Anyone? Everyone loves the side characters in anime! The funny cool, interesting guys but who are the most overpowered and uninteresting characters......Naruto, Luffy, Natsu, Eren Jaeger!
EnigmaShadow03 i preffer the main characters.
Actually, Did you know that "The Matrix" was inspired by anime? It's cinematography, it's storyline, it's action. It's primarily based on "Akira".
That so? Well you learn something new everyday don't you?
EnigmaShadow03 did you know you learn something new everyday?
Luke Skywalker has one of the best quotes, best self-introductions, in epic fiction: "I'm Luke Skywalker, I'm here to rescue you." How much more awesome or to the point can you get?
That's not techincally an introduction. "I'm Kyle Reese, come with me if you want to live" is an introduction. *shrugs*
"There's no need to call me sir, professor"... *if they only had kept that one*
more punny.... ;
"iida maka thata Lisa moana"
"with my Leonardo DickVinci"
You've all just successfully explained why the world is so fucked...
LOL "clockwork orange" that made me laugh
Well, I guess I have to give Daniel the point for bringing the argument up. Soren and Katie could really use a comeback now.
Daniel: 14
Soren: 9
Katie: 8
Michael: 13
Has anyone noticed that Keanu Reeves (however you spell it) doesn't seem to be aging? plus, i forget where i read it, but arent there 2 old paintings of people identical to him, one of whom was a renescanse (bad at spelling) stage actor who mysteriously disappeared? I think he's a vampire.
that explains why i always hated frodo. he wasn't the friggin hero, Sam was. Frodo was just some bland douche along for the ride.
I love this. It cuts to the core of the matter...
"LOOK AT ME!"
"What is happening to me?"
-Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter
Emma Hodge I personally remember a bunch of random quotes from Prisoner of Azkaban, like :"He was their friend! And he betrayed them."
Have watched almost all the videos these guys have and have liked all of them, but this is the one that made me subscribe.
Zaman Chini you watch peoples videos, like them, and don't subscribe the entire time? wtf is wrong with you??
+Gamerat idk why but I'm the say way I'll like and watch people videos but I won't subscribe until a video really catches my eye
I made her mona with my bona.
Mark Hamill shows WAY more emotion than Keanu, bad example. Radcliffe does too, but you would be hard pressed to find another actor who has embodied a quintessential Hero, and Villain so definitively. I agree with the idea, but a couple of the actors mentioned have more ability to bring it than others. This theory has more to do with the writing, and role of archetypes than the actors directly.
Nelson A. Vega
I agree, as much as I love Star Wars, I always hated that guy.
chaosmastermind I could not disagree with both of you more. Hamill is the gateway to Star Wars, and without him the movies would never have connected the right way.. He played the character as written in A New Hope, which THE POINT is he is an average unremarkable character from Modesto.....I mean Tatooine, that became the hero. That's what this clip is about. The character grows through Empire, and then continues from there, although as Kasdan and Hamill have both said, they were disappointed that Lucas pulled back from the original plan for RotJ. As Kershner said, if Hamill didn't believe that Yoda was real, there was no way the viewer would suspend disbelief, and I still say Empire Yoda is better than any CGI version since.
Jake Modica exactly thats the point, they are talking about how the movies are written and casted, not about how good the actors are at acting.
PseudoTactics Thanks, I was trying to clarify that in the last part of my original comment, but didn't do a very good job of it. (There are a few digs at the actors in there though)
"I'll be in my bedroom making no noise and pretending that I don't exist" Harry Potter
I can't believe they didn't mention "The Island" sure it's not the best but it supports Dan's theory really well
For the next after hours you should do who is better DC or Mavel? Comparing iron man-batman(billionaire, playboy, and no superpower), quicksilver-flash, justice League-avengers, to see more look up "Watchmojo DC and Mavel copycats
Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
no words by alan moore might be one of the funniest animation gags in this whole show
it’s near the end of 2021, so i’ll just consider my comment a fact😌
I loved this Cracked series but I gotta say that out of all of them, this episode is my favorite
I want a gif of Hermione casting that explosion at 5:09 hahahahahahaha😂😂😂
3haterz THANKS
What if you're the universe and everything and everyone around you has been created by your own desire and you could end this known universe and recreate a new one if you wish it to?
Sophistry, sheer sophistry. Look up "The World As Myth" theory.
***** But maybe, your actually a person who wants to complain all the time about how things are stupid and you would make everything better, then it would make perfectly sence for your mind to create a world with bullshit around you so you can complain all the time about how things are stupid and you would make everything better. Makes sence right?
Zajin13 Yes but although your point is valid your point is also kinda stupid right? I mean yes in theory that makes sense but there just seems to be something missing from the theory you know lol
sounds like you're about to mass shoot a place.
boss180888 Nope, that's just you.
Feels weird commenting on a video from 10 years ago, but the 4th Pirates movie made a billion dollars and was the second highest grossing of that franchise.
True actually, sometimes a write spins a fact to suit the narrative thank you for pointing that out ☺️
I'm actually quite fond of Harry's monologue in the Hog's Head in the fifth movie: "When your seconds away from being murdered...or watching a friend die.... You don't know what that's like."
Question: On a scale of [1] to [Woody Harrelson on a trip to Colorado for April 20th], how high are the writers of these when they come up with the concepts??
