    I'd trade several chapters of other stuff for an AFTERHOURS episode every two-weeks, I mean, After Hours is like the gathering of the content of: things you didn't notice in movies, pop-culture disorder, among others. I started to watch Cracked because of afterhours, there must be more people who do the same.

      +K IRA Wrong, it wouldn't be scary at all, because in a wide open desert it would just be target practice. Xenomorphs are ambush predators, take them out of a dark claustrophobic environment and they're pretty much laughable as a threat. Just look at Aliens, even in a perfect hunting environment for the them, a handful of marines with machine guns turned the Xenomorphs into complete chumps, it was strictly through overwhelming numbers that they managed to get an advantage over the marines.
      Now think about that in real life and realize that even superior numbers would be meaningless, since we could literally wipe out entire Xenomorph hives with a simple drone strike.

      It was a recurring nightmare for me. I must've been about 6 years old when I first saw it. For 10+ years after that, I always pictured the "Boogeyman under my bed, outside my window, behind the shower curtain, etc" to be e.t. the extra terrestrial. I know it's dumb, but the movie seriously scarred me for a long time. I couldn't watch it again until I was about 17 years old.

    • @nicholaspeterman9111

      Telepathy for the second one. And the Force has dozens of different powers beyond those.

    • @PaperbackWizard
      @PaperbackWizard 4 года назад +10

      And, since Michael pointed out in the Star Wars video that the odds of producing a Jedi are actually very slim, E.T. is probably the only Force User in his species at the time. While everyone else was collecting specimens, he was following the Force to where he...needed to be? *shrugs* Anyway, he's really only a danger if he's a Sith Lord. Jedi use their powers for knowledge and defense, never attack.

    • @kourii
      @kourii 6 лет назад +19

      Guys, you can figure out what part of speech a word is - if you don't know how to tell - by replacing it with words and seeing what PoS works.
      'flesh Gumbys going hentai on some Mounties' - our template
      'flesh Gumbys going run on some Mounties' - no
      'flesh Gumbys going grab on some Mounties' - nope
      'flesh Gumbys going happen on some Mounties' - lolwut
      'flesh Gumbys going terrify on some Mounties' - not at all
      Looks like verb doesn't work. Like at all.
      'flesh Gumbys going orange on some Mounties' - no*
      'flesh Gumbys going happy on some Mounties' - uh-uh
      'flesh Gumbys going clever on some Mounties' - not really
      'flesh Gumbys going outrageous on some Mounties' - that's actually kinda close
      Nope, doesn't look like adjectives work either, but a whole hell of a lot better than verbs.
      'flesh Gumbys going ape on some Mounties' - yes (obvi)
      'flesh Gumbys going bananas on some Mounties' - also obvious
      'flesh Gumbys going robot on some Mounties' - yep
      'flesh Gumbys going monster on some Mounties' - yep
      Ding ding ding, looks like it's a noun. Katie just used _hentai_ as a noun.
      (* Yes there is a construction 'go' + Adj, as in 'His face went red', but that is [clearly] not the same idiom)

    I know this is a few years ago now, but Predators want to hunt the strongest, best prey in its hunting ground. It’s why it picked off Arnold’s crew but seemed to remain focused on him. He was the prey. The others were just kind of in the way. This can be seen more in 2. The Predator from the beginning views Danny Glover as the top prey in the area, and pretty much everything the Predator does is to draw Glover out.

    The candidate for the most terrifying alien is Q -- and by extension the species of "Q" -- from "Star Trek." Seriously, despite his comedic, flamboyant, and sarcastic demeanor and behavior, he could literally eliminate your universe out of existence with just a thought (or snap of the fingers). He could also think of you being in Hell, and you would be in the universe of Hell. The most terrifying about Q is not that he is aware of being capable of such things, he just does not care and finds it boring. Except for humans.

      Superman only gets talked about in comic book discussions, just like how they didn't bring up Transformers 'cause they're robots. I am a little confused why the ID4 aliens didn't make the cut. Superior technology, coordinated attacks, and they can kill us with their minds.

    Dan - No offense, but you're wrong about how the Thing acts in Carpenter's 1982 classic. It only bursts out and attempts to quickly snatch people only when it doesn't have a choice and its been exposed. Look at the start of the film, when you see the Dog-Thing entering into the room of a crew member whose shadow you see on the wall. That was a stealth take over. The Thing also tried to do the same with the Dogs in the kennel and the same with Bennings in the storage room. Both of those were suppose to be stealth takeovers, but it didn't take into account of someone coming back (the kennel scene where it attempts the take over is suppose to be hours after it was put into the kennel, where all the human crew were asleep. It didn't account for Clark being awake to discover it and for MacReady to be awake to hit the alarm).
    It is a creature that is trying to survive by trying to spread itself as carefully as it can, because it knows that if it were discovered, the copy would be destroyed. All the times that the thing has busted out of its façade is after its been exposed. Look at the Norris-Thing sequence. It had its thing-out after it was first zapped by Copper. After that first shock, it registered Copper's shocking as painful and that it's existence was threatened. The same is true with the Palmer-Thing. It tried to maintain it's façade during the blood-test, and attacked Windows not because it was trying to spread the organism, but the fact that it was a threat that was close by. But, most importantly, it took out the generator to kill the lights all over the camp, which it used to go after Fuchs (who killed himself to keep from becoming a Thing), went to MacReady's shack to shred a pair of his clothes and shove it up the furnace to try to frame him AND also used that opportunity to infect Palmer (and possibly Blair).
    The Thing you're describing is almost like being a zombie, it just going after people without mindless thought. The Thing in Carpenter's film is nothing like that. It is intelligent enough to know how to try to avoid being discovered and being destroyed. It's an intelligent creature down to its very molecular level. The only time it does the burst out try to take over quickly is when it doesn't have any other choice and its existence is in danger.
    And BTW, guys, the alien in the Alien franchise is often referred to as Xenomorphs (using the word from Cameron's film "Aliens"), since there's no real official name for them. Also, I doubt the Xenomorphs would be seen during the daylight unless they need to (hell, don't y'all remember Newt's line from the film? "It'll be dark soon, and they mostly come out at night. Mostly." That indicates that they're nocturnal).

      As for transfer by touch, I think the "the thing" would have problems
      with this, as the top layer of skin cells are dead. We know "the thing"
      can't copy clothing so maybe it would have a tough time dealing with
      dead skin cells. Which is why it has to cut open or digest its host. The
      prequel shows light on this - were one of the men gets sprayed with
      "the thing" fluids he is sick, this is probably due to some of the
      fluids getting in to his mouth. His skin on the other hand is agitated
      and red. This could be why the "the thing" went after him so
      aggressively on the chopper, to keep itself hidden.

Good luck keeping your planet when any animal can not only turn into a cronenburgian monster, but also infect you to turn you into one.

    Many Doctor Who aliens would probably be worse than ET. Daleks have taken over Earth multiple times, and have only been fought off because of a renegade Time Lord. The Cybermen have also successfully crippled Earth's defenses several times since their first appearance in the 1960's. The Sontarans nearly wiped out Earth using automobiles against us, and with a clone army could probably also continue a war for several years. The Master ruled Earth for a year in an alternate timeline, and let's not forget the 456 from Torchwood: Children of Earth, who established a direct link with Earth's children and used advanced diseases as a threat against us.
    Not to mention that the Time Lords are fully capable of taking out Earth, and nearly destroyed the Earth for their own ends when they believed they would lose the Time War. If they should decide when they're at full power to go against Earth, not even the Doctor might be able to stop them!

I'm not on the fence, none of the other sequels have done justice to the source material, including Prometheus. The books I mentioned aren't perfect, there are occasional flaws but they are hardcore. Serious, scary and super violent, which is exactly what I want from the franchise.

    One problem. The AvP franchise isn't solely based on the Alien skull from Predator 2. AvP was a successful comic story published by Dark Horse Comics before the script was even written for the initial AvP film. #TeamPredator
    The Predators would be way more effective with say, a rogue sect of them attacking earth for more than just trophy hunting. To stay with your initial argument though, the jungle Predator wiped out a whole elite team of soldiers before being defeated by Arnold in the end. I'll let you do the human to Predator death ratio yourselves.

      ThePyrosteve dont forget the books that the comics were based on, and its stated in comics and books that the predators that come to earth are outcasts or children brought to gain honor and earth has been one of dozens of planets used for rights of passage for predators

  • @cjwrench07
    @cjwrench07 7 лет назад +1

    I always pictured the first 2 movie Predators as 14-15 year old on their first hunt. Slightly incompetent and totally inexperienced, they were given a pre-space faring; unarmored, day-vision only, soft meat-suit race to hunt first and failed badly. That's why the adults only came out at the end of P2 when the first predator failed horribly. AvP was a last chance kinda mission for that group of predators before being outcast and sterilized.

    The thing was actually very good at discretion. They only went body horror if they were compromised, restrained, or found out. They are also highly intelligent, and knew enough to disable the human’s communication and transportation specifically to prevent information about them being spread. They also don’t have to consume the victim to spread the infection. Wilford Brimley’s character was separated from the rest of the group for the entire movie and wasn’t infected midway though when the group started getting the picture. He was infected slowly by the cells of the thing corpse he was examining. Literally any contact with a thing is enough to initiate the assimilation.
