You don’t have an alternative you have something that’s just idiotic. The whole point of wrapping it is so the food stays fresh for longer and you don’t waste it. Putting a plate over it does nothing but make you have to clean another dish whenever you go to eat it
@@jakejohnson4018 It isn’t idiotic at all. So long as you have a correct sized bowl (the one she used in the video was too small), it works perfectly well. Or you can use Tupperware. Plastic wrap is not the only way, and seeing as the alternative ways are more sustainable, why not do it.

About Sicilians, we are made of different traditions and ethnicities. In my family tree you can find scandinavian people, from Iceland too, then Italians, Greeks, Spaniards, Middle East people and a little bit from Mongolia and Askenazi too. In India also we do the same. We either use plates or we use dabbas/little tiffins. We also give away to the poor the leftovers so that no food is wasted. Here in Gujarat we call it "Vaaddu". They(poor) come to collect leftovers home to home. And usually it's someone we know from our area so that there is no robbery or anything. This way they get a lot of different food from different houses and the food is also not wasted.
I'm in the southern U.S. i do this when it makes sense.(That bowl did not cover the food on that plate.) My favorite thing is discovering that the plastic lids off of the lousy coffee my dad prefers, will fit the smaller corelle bowls. And they can be stacked. Easy storage and safe to microwave.
We do that in Greece too but in my house only for stuff outside of the fridge so nothing drops on the food or maybe a fly sits on it. But for the fridge we use containers otherwise the food will go bad much faster, or dry out or absorb other smells. Cool video though, loved the dramatic effect of the music 😄

It's a completely negligible cost, actually seals the food, and it degrades quickly so the environment isn't affected by it.

We do that in Greece too but in my house only for stuff outside of the fridge so nothing drops on the food or maybe a fly sits on it. But for the fridge we use containers otherwise the food will go bad much faster, or dry out or absorb other smells.

In Brazil (at least in my house in Minas Gerais) we use Tupperware. The refrigerator is more organized and you can know what's inside without having to open it.

Same here in Malaysia, we use the plastic wrap now but I think my grandparents generation they just used plates as lids.
Same in Spain. We do that and we also use “tapers” (tupperwares)
In the Philippines,Surprisingly,we also do the same because plastic wrap is a delicate here in the Philippines
