The 2023 Dodge Hornet GT Is A Buzz Worthy Turbocharged Compact Driver’s SUV

  • Its been a nearly decade since #Dodge released an all-new model and for 2023, the #DodgeHornet returns as a small SUV with Italian roots. This #HornetGT serves as the entry-level model and unlike its rivals, the #Hornet comes standard with a potent 2.0L Turbo 4-cylinder making nearly 270 HP. It makes this little SUV once of the quickest and best handling options in the segment.

The main issue I have with this review is the reviewer not once mentions any concern with reliability with the Hornet considering FCA Stellantis checkered reliability history. Obviously the reviewer can't predict future reliability however it should of been mentioned. Alot of people unfamiliar with FCA/Stellantis products and don't do their research and impulsively buy this vehicle could be burned in the future. It's a good review in many aspects however. Other reviewers mention their concerns regarding this. How can this vehicle be recommended when almost every vehicle in FCA's lineup has major reliability issues? I don't get it.

Kudos to the reviewer. He seems to know his car stuff and does the job in a truly professional way.
In the meantime, I drove this car myself and I liked the acceleration, handling, and road feel. However, I decided I couldn't live with it because of a singularly poor ergonomic design.
    1. Even though I'm short, when I raise the seat all the way, which is how my body likes it these days, the cabin becomes too cramped, and my knees are hitting the steering wheel assembly.
    2. When I try to get out, the seating material acts like velcro on my jeans and impedes my movement. Combined with the raised sides of the driver seat, which trip my butt, the exit out of the vehicle is further made difficult.
    3. When I want to get into the driver seat, the roof line is so low and angular that I risk bumping my head hard if I'm not careful getting in.
I have never encountered a vehicle with issues of this kind and so so many of them as the new Dodge Hornet GT.

Completely unsurprising that the Hornet is a full second quicker to 60 MPH than the CX-5 Turbo (coming from an owner of one). The Mazda has plenty of power but it’s old (fuel economy focused) 6-speed transmission holds it back big time, especially off the line. A newer/quicker transmission would easily help the CX-5 get to 60 as swiftly as the Hornet. There’s too much power in there, 250HP & 320LB of torque (on premium fuel) for it to be only a 6.5 second car and it’s been a gripe of mine since the end of its break-in period.

@@ducktails1695 companies can change over time - for example, Audi could start offering manual transmissions in their RS cars - but we all know that is not going to happen. When you don't know about reliability (ie for a brand-new car like this one) it's helpful to use information about past models. I'd like this car to be good because I like the idea of it, but there's zero world in which I spend my own money on one of the first few model years. On the other hand, I would spend my own money to bet reliability will be bad. Not really a fair bet though as you can see people are already having problems in the Hornet subreddit.

I'm against this sort of platform sharing. A brand should keep its identity. An Alfa Romeo shouldn't be altered to turn into a Dodge. Take the platform as a foundation, modify it, and make a Dodge that is a Dodge and don't compromise Alfa by making a cheapened version of it. That's what I see when I look at this Hornet. It's a cheapened Tonale.

While this car has to fight a lot of negative brand equity, the reality is that underneath that lowbrow Dodge skin, is the exact same hardware in the Tonale which competes with Audi/Benz/BMW. Dodge has typicaly been cheap speed with bottom-feeder parts, but with this you get (relatively) cheap speed with a ZF transmission, the exact same engine as in the Giulia/Stelvio (and the Maserati Grecale base models!!!!). When in all of creation did any Dodge share the same engine with a Maserati?? The typical caveman Dodge buyer will have to up his game for this however. That Alfa motor is stout and powerful and has been running for six years in other cars with no issues. However to keep it happy requires Fiat Euro-spec oil and spark plug changes every 60K miles. It is basically an exotic engine and people used to cheap gas, Wal Mart oil, and ignoring the maintenance schedule will probably be complaining in 5 years their car is "unreliable". Its not the car that is unreliable; its them.
