  • Is the Hornet GT is all new from Dodge. On the outside you will see the optional wheels, Brembo brakes and function hood. On the inside there are Alcantara sport seats, flat bottom steering wheel, and 10.25 infotainment screen. Under the hood is a 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2023 Dodge Hornet GT a BETTER performance SUV than a Hyundai Kona N?

Dodge is off their rocker with this nonsense. They somehow managed to give us a high powered, yet slow, heavy, raised hatchback. With a ridiculously high load floor in the rear with a bunch of wasted space under the floor (either give us a full size spare, or lower the floor). No idea what they're thinking. For what? So you can have a flat floor rear middle seat? This is a waste of metal, rubber, and plastic. And for $41K msrp? F THAT. Get yourself a Civic Hatchback, with 24.5 Cubic feet behind the rear seats, and even more with seats folded down. It'll ride better, and give you better gas mileage. If you want speed, get a Type-R, or dare I say an Elantra N, or the Kona N. If you want a small SUV go with a Toyota RAV 4, or a Honda CR-V with 37.5 and 39.3 cubic feet (respectively) behind the rear seats. All can be had for less or close to the price of this useless Dodge (maybe except for Type-R with dealer markups).

It's actually very convenient and well thought out to place it in that location because many people will start their car and immediately disable that feature every time they start their car. For that reason, it makes sense to place it next to the ignition button. In the world of lean manufacturing and process improvements, it is considered best practice to place items nearest the location where you will use it, so you don't waste time searching.

I have not driven a Hornet as of yet, but I have tossed the Kona N around and honestly it is not a SUV in my mind nor is it a Hot Hatch per-se. I think it is more of a crossover in that it is more spacious than a Hatch, but not quite a SUV like the Tucson, Santa Fee, or Palisade.
The Hornet is almost 10 inches longer, 12 inches wider, has nearly an inch and a half longer wheel base, is 2" taller and the Kona N adds the height of the roof rack rails to the overall height whereas the Hornet didn't appear to have any. The Hornet has an extra gear in the transmission but does not offer a DCT; however, the RT and GLH do offer wheel mounted paddle shifters. Then you need to look at the ground clearance on each vehicle; the Kona N sits much closer to the pavement which is going to give it far better handling in the twisties with much better feedback. The other thing that is surprising is that the Hornet gives way to the Kona in the power output area on top of being almost a quarter ton heavier.
If you are looking for the better spirited driving experience on road the Kona N is going to be better suited; however if you want a more take the grandkids camping and fishing off the beaten path with supplies the Hornet would probably serve you better in that regard and still allow you to get your turbo rush every now and then.
I already own a Santa FE XRT for the AWD SUV duties, so for me it would be the Kona N simply for a tuner project; that is unless they squeeze a turbo Hurricane 6 with an AWD system and an 8 speed DCT with paddle shifters with the performance pages drag pack interface, then I would have to go with the Hornet and call it the Killer Bee Edition.

Who is cross shopping the GT and the R/T??? Bizarre. If people are remotely considering the Kona N, it's a performance vehicle full stop. The Hornet GT is a warmed over version of the standard Hornet with AWD. What does being a hybrid have to do with it? Since I have owned nothing but turbocharged cars for the last two decades, no hybrid but performance oriented ones can beat the Hornet GT.

@@dj4monie The R/T has the "powershot" boost button which gives it a nice fast 0-60 time. Yes, they are charging an outrageous 10k more for a slight increase in instant torque, and better MPG's. This is the insanity of the current auto pricing regime, whereby any efficiency improvements are more than cancelled out at the point of sale; the additional insurance, depreciation, and reg fees would cancel out any fuel savings of the car. It's sad. We just can't have nice things.

The GT actually has a top speed of 140 mph. The RT's top speed is 128 mph. The 0 to 60 is more like 5.6 seconds. That 6.5 Dodge advertised was watered down to create more appeal for the RT model. The Hornet is still behind the Kona N in speed but these are the accurate performance numbers.

You can't "push" anything into your ear canal unless you have no eardrums. Otherwise you just run into your eardrum. But yeah peroxide does work, you can use a syringe without the needle attached to inject some hydrogen peroxide in your ear and let it leak out. I use both...Q-tips for regular cleaning, and peroxide occasionally. Never had anything "get stuck" in there.

The Dodge family of vehicles still seems sparse, even though they've created a more hip suv. I was happy for years driving my Dodge Dakota, finally moving up to a Ram Laramie, which I absolutely love. My growing criticism is for 2023 all vehicles sustained a substantial price increase. Specifically the Laramie, and the Limited, even though you knowingly paid more for what you're buying, not only did the price increase, but they TOOK AWAY many features and add-ons we were used to getting depending on the level of the trim we were buying. That tells me, the company doesn't cater anymore to their customer base, and some of us may eventually flee.
EDIT: First time watching your Channel..very thorough and informative! THANK YOU!

At the price point and configuration, this car's competition is probably Mini countryman JCW. Kona N is more of a CX-30 territory in terms of their position in market. Car characteric wise hornet is more like cx-30 in a way that it's primary focus is a daily driver with some spice, but I wouldn't bring them to track. They have track hardwares like brembo brakes and etc but their engine cooling design and rest of the fluids won't be able to handle the track unless you upgrade them as well. JCW and especially Kona N are track capable cars in stock form that can also be used for daily drive if you are willing to sacrifice some comfort and convenience.

When I went to get a other one I found that they were all now 60k (from 40k in 2020 go 60k in 2022/2023 🤯). No way I'd ever spend 60k for a Scat pack. No way I'd ever spend 53k for the Hornet RT. I wouldn't even spend the 41k that this is asking for. The GT is a 30k car fully loaded. That's what they should have charged and 40k for the RT tops.

Why no zonk for not being able to get a production version with power seats but no sunroof so tall people can get good leg support but don't have to bump their heads on the sunroof surround. And the placement for the stop/start defeat button is perfect because after you hit the engine start button you can move immediately down to the start/stop defeat button to turn it off and save your starter motor.

Dead battery, transmissions shifts very hard into and out of 2nd which is now doing it in other gears and the radar needs to be replaced the day I bought it. The vehicle is now in the shop, was supposed to get brought in yesterday, if it was brought in, the service manager stated it would be brought in til Mid March. The warranty for vehicle issues is absolutely terrible even though its called MVP warranty coverage. For a warrantable failure, they will only pay for 5 days for a rental no matter how long it takes to repair. I dont have rental on my insurance which I should have, but shouldnt have to with a brand new car.
