Dodge is a dead brand walking in 9 months. Blame Stellantis, they want to use a heritage US nameplate to push their tiny European products.
Joe was doing his best to be professional 😂
You know me well Derek.
@@RaitisRides The smile melted off your face about 3 seconds into that powershot launch. I could see you doing the 52k math the whole time you were driving.
Looks like he was almost crying at one point ahahaha
Looks good, but $52k sounds a little crazy. I don’t know how they get that much power out of a tiny 4 cylinder.
Just a suggestion…..when you mention torque numbers, I’m always wondering at what rpm you get that……usually when engine is screaming. Lol Thanks Joe and Lori !
52 is beyond insane for a tiny crossover that can’t outrun Odyssey minivans.
Not being able to outrun a Minivan is crazy 😂😂
It's combined horsepower with the ev. It's nowhere close to those numbers in reality
The torque actually comes in lower because of the two electric motors.
@@RaitisRides makes sense 👍
Even though the 1.3 makes more power, I feel like the 3.6L hybrid would've been a better platform for this vehicle if dodge really needed a car with a hybrid engine. A small 1.3L doesn't really scream "R/T" in my opinion.
That is a very good point!
The 1.3 doesn't make more power. It only does so with the electric motors. Honestly I'm confused why they wouldn't just give it the GT's motor with the Electric motors and actually make a good car.
It's the torque.
This sucks.
@@VanquishedAgain Power is power...doesn't matter how or where it comes from. It also has a shitload more torque which is what actually gets you up to speed, not HP.
They can't offer it in the GT at the $30,000 price tag. That drivetrain has to be pretty expensive right now which is why it's on the R/T and the R/T is so much more expensive. Hopefully as time goes on the tech will get cheaper and they can offer a GT hybrid option.
A million subs…..so close! Y’all have worked your butts off for this! Thanks for the excellent content!!
Thanks for taking the time to say that and for having our backs!
Yeaaaaah, as cool as this CUV looks, $52k is waaaaay too crazy of a price point for what your getting, especially when its hp is less than 300 and it’s competition has more features for less the price. Dodge is gonna miss out with this one.
Thanks for letting me share this one.
Man, there’s a lot of competition at 52g’s.
Big names for sure!
Definitely someone smarter who done their research more would buy a Lexus or BMW SUV over this car.
@@YaretziaGarcia yup, i’d pick an NX any day over this
@@YaretziaGarcia Lexus over a bmw, because of reliability
You are at the door of EVs with that price and those things are faster than this. it isnt even that premium so the Germans, Koreans, and Japanese are going look to me more appealing. Honestly a really tough sell.
Basically a Dodge Dart converted to a CUV.
Exactly what I said in the other Hornet video. I have a feeling its going to flop like the Dart because it seems like they haven't learned anything.
@@Darkvirgo88xx So true, this was the time for Dodge to bring a new design team, seems like they stuck in 2010. Look at this thing, Charger, Durango, they all look like 20 years old. Dodge is only brand that manages to look 5 year old standing new at the dealership.
And we all know what happened to the dart,,,
@@Darkvirgo88xx this is a surrender. This is Dodge giving up the fight against our government. Unfortunately Dodge will be gone in a year or two. Nobody wants this overpriced thing

I doubt you could find a well equipped Durango RT for that price. But. Kona N, fully loaded Edge ST, Mazda CX30 are all (much) cheaper or the same price as this (the edge). The Edge ST also comes with a free track experience that includes hotel and dinner.
It very well may happen.
@Enjoying my Life yea that's about what you can if you can find a dealer with an RT in stock (hardly ever stock them since people don't want to pay the premium). But that's still more than 52k.
@Enjoying my Life almost 60K for an R/T that’s ridiculous bro but hey if it makes u happy to crank it up in the morning then enjoy yourself
Good luck at 52k for that trim. I actually like what they're trying to do but not at that price point.
Yeah it is going to price themselves right out of the segment.

Thanks for bring this one - awesome review as we have come to expect.
Good review Joe! The RT is better looking than the GT especially in that red color. However, at 52K they’ll have trouble selling this IMO. With today’s inflated pricing, it seems they should have started under 40K with the RT, let’s say $39,999 and kept the top end at around $45K. No way I’d touch a top end RT over 50K with the many choices in the market. And since it’s a “tweeter” they’re going to compete at the sub and compact levels. Cheers!
These will $15k off before negotiating.
52 MSRP? ....NAH bro. Thanks for the info Raiti but hard pass for me!
Can you imagine paying that for a tiny, rebadged CUV that can’t outrun Japanese minivans. Sad.
I know that feeling!
Great couple of Hornet reviews! You and Lori set the bar for all other RUclips vehicle channels! I don't hate the R/T, it looks the part, but $52k? I paid $45k for my AWD Durango GT. I think the sweet spot for this model is the GT. I'm in the market for something later this year, so I will give this a look.
You got a good deal my wife got a Durango v6 with the black package no GT for like 48 k a year ago
The shift to electric vehicles is the exact reason why I bought a 2021 Challenger T/A 392.
It feels like the dodge demon 170 is the avengers endgame of dodge so everything coming after it feels like marvel movies currently also, I do like the Hornet as an Alfa Romeo, not a dodge

I agree w/ ur suggestions on several parts of where Dodge could have really put a "sting" /stamp on the competition...Like the spoiler + key remote could be just the "HORNET" BADGE on one side & the Dodge symbol on the other side + gear shift n area.(all carbon fiber perhaps.. + the engine cover.. definitely, all carbon fiber + gas pedal (all of the same indeed)..for all the $$$ Dodge could have put all competition "on NOTICE" but they slacked off in certain areas..

"wonderful job Lori" keep it coming.
Dodge has lost their minds 52k. They can charge for the scat-packs, hell cats, and the Cummins. But these mini suv's are priced to sit.
Awesome video Sir. I said it on the last couple videos, these prices are TGH in the words of Flossy Carter.
That’s more than half of $100k is how I look at it.
You are so very right with that.
People are always complaining about price. $52k is the all in price here. Most people will buy the GT at a lower starting price and many of those won't click every box. The average price will be more like $40k.
No one cares about the price anymore. They will just finance this over 84 months and pay 18 grand in interest. But hey, at least the payment will be under $600!! (Sarcasm)
I've been waiting for this. Thanks, Joe .
I like that you said MSRP and the one you have specd. Good review
Should have kept it in the 40s for this particular model. At 52k im looking at Supras and Scatpacks

Just curious, lets say the battery is empty on Monday and you don't have time to charge it at a lot until the end of the week, you would just drive it like a normal car until the end of the week and it will be fine?
Will it still have AWD if you deplete the battery? Do you lose AWD if it needs to charge?
It's simple. I see Joe, I press like.
Honestly I think 52k is a bit much, I think 45k should have been the fully loaded price. I don't really like it but I am also not in the market for an SUV. Great video nonetheless, big thumbs up from me for another great upload.
Thanks for tuning in and letting me share it all with you!
Yeah 52K is egregious… 45K TOPS.
45 is way too much. I purchased a brand new charger scat pack for 40 in 2019, and I mean brand new It had 4 miles on it. I was the only man to drive it. This thing should be 32,000 if that maybe more like 30,000.
Nice color
Yeah, Hot Tamale lives up to it's name.
Great stuff Joe! I’d love to see the GT. I don’t need a plugin. The problem for me is that Stellantis Group is eating their own. Who would want a Stelvio now with the garbage infotainment system? Thanks for bringing it to us.
$52,000! That's a lot money considering the drivetrain complication, the weight, reliability record of Dodge/Alfa and not quite looking like an upscale 52 grand vehicle. As one example, for that same price you can get a Genesis GV70 2.0T AWD with the Advanced package. A little less weight, less complicated drivetrain, better 8 speed automatic, a more upscale fit, finish and looks IMO, a bit larger inside with a better warranty. The few mpg's and 10ths of second gained in the Hornet just doesn't outweigh the many advantages of the Genesis. The Hornet does seem a little more sporty but how often is someone going to drive their car at the limit? For 5 grand less the Hornet could be a winner.
Cool car but 52k is tough. You could easily get a Q5 for that for example
Would be interesting to see a addition of a sunroof and consideration of making a SRT4 version.
Now we are talking!
Wait. It doesn't have a sunroof?
The GT Plus has sunroof according to the online configurator. Not sure why Dodge would send the top trim tester without sunroof.
It'll have a GHL version if it sales well.
@Vanquished he's driving a tester model the ones at the dealership will have or if ordered be able to add a sunroof.
This car is right up there with the AMC PACER X, and the Chevy Citation X11. I'm impressed that it can tow 2000lbs, but it can probably only do it for 15 miles,. I'm not sure of the practicality of it. It also appears to have plenty of headroom for the folks who enjoy driving and wearing a fedora simultaneously. The engineers have outdone themselves. Fantastic. The exhaust sound leaves me absolutely speechless. It is like a mixture of hissing and gurgling. I might buy one of these when they get released, but for $50,000 I could buy 7000 exciting 100% electric toasters from Target or 20 electric bicycles. I'm not sure what would be the best purchase, but I predict the Hornet will depreciate faster than the toasters or bikes.
Wow...the Citation X11. Dang.
I forgot about that one!!! 😂
Joe is it me or is it a dead ringer for a Alfa Romero Tonale? Great review ! Wait what, no zonk on the rear wiper? You doin ok Joe? Cheers Kirk

Great review as always, Joe. I've been wanting a Dodge Durango, but after I saw the Hornet GT review, I have been debating between the two. Between the two Hornets, it's the GT for me. It's shameful how these car manufacturers continue to rebadge models. Especially after the 2009 car bailouts, where they promised to "straighten" out their branding strategy.
Great review as usual, but i really don't get what Stellantis is doing. The hornet is the Alpha Romeo Tonale with a different skin and the prices are about a10k difference depending on the model. So is this like the reverse of what Honda does with Acura and Toyota with Lexus. A budget version of the luxury line, if so its really stupid, or I'm just mad because they stop making Chargers and Challengers for this crap.😭

I can totally understand where you are coming from.
It’s a small Italian CUV with a Charger front end. You can get a larger AWD 2.0 Escape weighing 600 lbs. less with almost the same 0-60 numbers and save thousands. I’ll put 50k towards a Passport or something with real cargo space.
Does it come with ventilated seats like the Alfa Romeo Tonale is supposed to have?
Yes but not with the performance seats.
Just imagine if this was a supercharged 6.2L V8 😳😳
Yeah right! LOL
1.3 L engine sounds really tinny for 280hp turbo. How long do you think that would last?
That is the million dollar question!
Half of it is probably coming from the electric motors.
the 1,3 L engine alone does not produce 280 hp, rather 177hp. With the assistance of the electric motor then you have around 288 horsepower. Mr Raiti"s should know better or maybe he himself is not aware of that. Anyway, i have had in the past a few turbo engines from Chrysler ( 2,2 l ) and never had any issue with those, I even modified one with cold intake filter, headers, intercooler, exhaust and with all the added power, my little 2,2 L never experienced any single issue, very reliable. So again the 1.3L engine alone does not develop 280 horsepower. Never believe without verifying what these people evaluating cars say. A few times they are completely wrong with their numbers and specifications
