WHAT COULD GO WRONG?
I could not have said it any better!
Most likely everything will go wrong. Especially after warranty
Yes I would not own one of these out of warranty. No way
@@AWMJoeyjoejoe I would not own one with a full warranty. Been there done that!
Everything.
Haven't watched the video yet but the answer is a HARD NO.
OMG I read the title and was about to write the same comment!
Lol basically any dodge
My sentiments exactly!! This is a no-brainer. 😣🤯
😂 same
If I did I would just lease
“How they pull this off” is the scariest phrase when it comes to automotive engineering
At Chrysler that’s Job one.
That is another way to say, "sell it the day after the warranty expires"
10 seconds in and the #1 comment from AMD will be, "But that is OK".....
I love it when he's says "that's ok" meaning it's anything but. 😂
"....but not the end of the world."
Drink 😅
He's so wholesome and pure he can't say "this sucks". I envy him.
@@scott8919 We quote him with affection. :)
Me: "Anyone wants a free Dodge Hornet?" Someone else: "Sorry man that's asking too much..."
"I can't afford that!"
There is no way to say it better. Absolutely no way I am going to depend on this to get me to work every day.
".....but that's ok."
Translation: It's not ok.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yes, this comment has been said to death.
@@ardiberen I figured I was the 75,643rd person to say it.
Just tuned in for fun. You couldn't give me one.
Came here to say the exact same thing.
@@JJF1973 well, that makes at least 3 of us! Same here. Hell to the no, as the saying goes.
After the engine review portion I thought cluster. Then came the interior design review. I thought bipolar. Word association while watching a Chrysler product doesn’t change because another company bought them.
33:46 "Why does this car exist...?" That pretty much sums it up LOL but that's okay
Because…the challengers we sold all got repoed. Now is buying them.
You understand the CCN extremely well!
Since 2011 I have had cars with a very similar engine...The 1.4l Multiair. 4 different cars, over 150000 miles on 2 of them. Normal maintenance only. The one I currently own has over 160000 miles, no oil usage, no problems, over 31mpg average and plenty enough power. So yes, it works.
The only reason most people gave Dodge a glance was because of their muscle cars. Since they're no longer being produced, I don't see the brand doing well in the next few years.
It will soon go the way of Plymouth.
@@Policearegood-mt6kx That's probably an accurate prediction.
@@tenhundredkills yeah, and Chrysler not far behind.
I always chuckle when you say "that's how they did, and iti's okay", but in your voice and pause says it all, and that must be said.
Folks!
I just love that Stellantis is either not afraid or clueless about what kind of reviewer AMD is. The French, Italian, the North America's engineer departments should be proud of how much complicated their hybrid system is.
Not far behind is Korean
The French have terminated most all of the NA engineers and many assembly workers.
I saw a Dodge Hornet in the wild. It was running fine. Looked decent too. But I drive a late model Camry because, Camry.
It'll run... For a short while. Your Camry will outlast it.
I would hope a brand new car is running fine. But, I know that’s a distinction that needs to be made with any dodge vehicle lol
But that's OK.
I saw a white one aswell today..a white one with a dude with his hat on backwards thinking hes the hottest thing on the road.....but I drive a corolla...because corolla 😂
Your Camry is just run in by the time this Dodge is in the junkyard 🤣
116,000 miles on my 1.4 multi air inside a Jeep Renegade. Zero problems. I admit to being a maintenance freak. Oil and filter every 5000 miles. 5w40 as specified. New air filter every 30,000 miles. New transmission, PTU, and rear end oil every 50,000 miles. I find a direct correlation between good maintenance and long usage of vehicles. I usually get 300,000 miles out of my vehicles.
I think these are handsome SUVs, but there is a less than zero percent chance that I would ever consider buying a Dodge/Alfa mashup. I've heard lots of bad things about these.
Bought 2.0T a year ago and fully enjoying it ☺️
Same here. As the reviewer notes, either version of the Hornet results in the best performing vehicle in the segment. But all hybrid vehicles are compromised. They are all a marriage of two different powertrains, one mechanical and one electric, so neither is optimized. On the other hand, the GT model has a reliable and potent 2 litre turbo engine and all wheel drive. As to Alfa Romeo reliability, the reviewer is demonstrating his ignorance of the brand's current build quality. The entire review is a little laughable, actually. I guess it's what's to be expected when a Toyota mechanic "reviews" an Italian car.
Love your content. I would be interested in seeing you do a "Car Buy Recommendation" video for the 2023 or 2024 year, I think a lot of us viewers would love to see your opinions on "Best in Segment" picks, and why.
He nailed it. I rented one for 10 days recently. Additional critiques: 1. Ergonomics and functions of switchgear are beyond terrible. Interacting with the car is annoying. 2. Car feels plenty quick, but never sporty. 3. Electric power steering has an awful feel. 4. Brakes, on the other hand, feel really nice. But they are squeaky with only 3k miles. 5. Transmission is impeccably smooth. It never draws attention to itself - just does the job competently. 6. Acceleration is smooth, but there is a very harsh vibration/resonance while idling in gear. I was stuck in traffic for an hour recently, and the vibration was maddening. 7. No good exhaust noises, but some bad exhaust noises are present when the engine is charging the battery . (Sounds like a portable gas generator in the hatch area.) Overall impression - Not a terrible car, but I was very glad to give it back after the rental.
In other words, a car from dodge that no customers of dodge care or even asked for

Bad design in general but underpinnings seem superior to the garbage under most Toyotas from the last couple of years
I've had dodge since I'm 16, I'm 60 now. Best brand out there. Every car company has good and bad. I'm driving a 2001 dodge ram with 320.000 miles, runs great
Bought my Gold 2024 Hornet GT AWD last August. About $10k cheaper than the Tonale with the same powertrain. Only issue I had & it was fixed under warranty was a bad wiring harness for the dome lights. I get about 25/26mpg driving mostly city. Awesome acceleration & it handles very well.
Same here. Only problem was mis-attached wiring to the rear window defroster, a simple fix under warranty. The Hornet GT is probably the best performing small crossover on the market. It's proof that all crossovers don't have to drive like appliances on wheels (looking at you, Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chevy and Volkswagen).
I was at a Dodge dealership in my area and they was asking $52k for a fully loaded Hornet R/T Plus . That's a bit too much for a compact suv
My porsche suv is only 15 grand more
In Canada that would be 82k, they are out of their minds....
@@sunnohheveryone would opt for the Porsche. My cayenne is a 08 and it looks better than that.
It’s a LOT too much for a Stellantis compact SUV.
@@alsheremeta Relax, they are no where near that expensive, more like $67k. Still expensive, but pretty much any well equipped hybrid isn't going to be cheap.
Having simple, well placed physical buttons for heater operation is smart.
Some friends with all touch screen controls complain about the lack of heater control buttons and that the touch screen is far too distracting to use while driving.
Excellent filming, another honest/quality review. Congrats AMD for a well-deserved 1,000,000 subs on your main channel 🎉

They acquired the name during the AMC merger.
@@AWMJoeyjoejoe Unless it had a V8 and a Tremec transmission, it wouldn't have been much better if the americans did the engineering. At least it might be kinda fun to drive since the Italians took care of the handling. US makes don't give a damn about making their crossovers nice lol

Take a look at the Hornet GT. It has a reliable 2 litre turbo four instead of the complex hybrid powertrain.

I saw the non-plug in at the dealership in the show room I remember it had a high price tag and seemed very uninteresting and it did not get much attention to other buyers. Now if you put the Pentastar it might get interesting and probably more reliable and would be not too bad on gas. And it seemed too small for needs.

I do not agree with your evaluation. The Hornet GT is probably the most interesting and fun-to-drive vehicle in its segment. It proves crossovers don't have to be boring to drive or ugly to look at. Its performance and style to price ratio is spot on. As to the torquey, all aluminum, twin cam 2 litre turbocharged engine, it has proven to be very reliable in other vehicles so it should be reliable here also. It offers far superior performance to the ageing Pentastar lump. As to the Hornet's size, it sits between a small and a medium crossover. For your needs, it may be too small. For others such as myself, it fits my needs perfectly. Horses for courses, I guess.
@@davidturgeon2087 to each his own. It’s great you are enjoying the experience.
Mind if we revisit this discussion at 100k miles? I drive the wheels off my cars, so for me GM not an option. If you plan to put 60-70k miles on it then trade-in for newer I guess that makes sense.
@@davidturgeon2087 I do think this channel and say one like Scotty Kilmer’s are for people who are looking to buy new and drive it forever.
Love all the reviews, this one was phenomenal as always.
I've never seen you do a Chevy but I'd love if you'd review the new 24' Traverse.
They've redesigned completely, now with a 2.5 turbo and updated transmission. They've had a nightmare history of their outgoing 9-speed and now a 2.5 in such a big truck is very interesting choice.
Who knows what's happening under the chassis with the dual clutch and other mods in the Z71.
They're asking a lot of money for it, curious if their redesign and higher asking price is great value or smoke & mirrors.
Would love to hear your deep technical analysis. Love the reviews you do.
Amazing catch here with the dodge using plastic components and curious 2 or 4x drive
Thanks you so much for the depth of your reviews. Truly among the best review channels on RUclips ❤

I'm not a huge fan of the vehicle, but I like that they're taking the same route of physically separating the electric powertrain from the gas the same way that Chevrolet is doing with the Corvette E-Ray (for the same reason, AWD)
'In other news, this year, record numbers of Americans are going to be stung by Hornets.'

The multi-air design is old and has worked in the past for their 1.4 inline 4 used on Jeep, Dodge Dart and Fiat cars. The 3 cylinder engine with electric motors are the variable in this.

1.4 multi air turbo is what fiat has had since 2012… I’ve had 2 of them, with combined 200,000km. One bad crank seal,. I was very happy with them… but then again, I changed euro spec oil every 5,000km. Thanks for the review tho, I was wondering about the hornets!
Can you do an in depth of a Suburban, Tahoe, or a Yukon with the 3.0L Duramax diesel engine?
Trash don’t buy lol
The entire reason for this vehicle being a Dodge is because of complaints that FCA were diverting vehicles meant for Chrysler or Dodge and putting a Jeep badge on them. I think the main market for this vehicle are people who don't like Alfa Romeo's exterior design queues but want the Alfa Romeo drive train. I don't see this vehicle going long term.
Chrysler is not shy about ending production of vehicles that don't sell well. They will even end production of vehicles that do sell well if they think they can get better sales with something else. It's the end of the FCA platforms, and the Stellantis platforms are quite a bit better.
I think the steering wheel has to do with future parts sharing. The volume and skip/seek thing are an Italian decision. They do the same with temperature and fan speed. I find it annoying for very much the same reason. European Engineers tend to overcomplicate things which is why it's ill-advised for Stellantis to have most of its engineering in Europe.
Pls review the new Camry XSE
BMW X1 plugin hybrid has its electric motor driving the rear wheels only (not sure if its available in US)
This car will go down as perhaps the biggest turkey of the 2020s. I wouldn't be surprised if it kills off Dodge as a brand.
One more thing. The buttons for volume and track skip are reversed for the same reason in S. California the workers building homes keep hooking up the C in our bathrooms to the hot water. Yes its a real thing.
So, Mexicans build homes in Southern California and Mexicans build Hornets!
Caliente is spanish for hot. I can easily see how that could happen!
Maybe the workers are from south of the border where "C" stands for calor which is warm in Spanish.
@@AStanton1966 Ya think, genius? Mexicans in Southern California?
Really glad to see this review. It confirms my thoughts on it too. It’s a rebadge aimed to make Dodge money. These are already heavily discounted where I am. Can’t imagine paying any kind of money for such a junky rebadged car.

Ok, Mr boring.
@@mixedbyfiatcat
Ya reliability, saving money, saving stress and getting the most value for your dollar is boring.
I think the new Dodge Powerwagon is going to shock Ford and GM in the heavy duty truck market. Can't speak to the Chrysler Pacific as never owned one or even seen one reviewed but often used for autonomous vehicle testing. Jeep offering still winning out over the Ford Bronco which says a lot about Jeep as this is a serious effort by Ford to take on the Jeep nameplate. Tesla continues to absolutely dominate growth in the global vehicle market though and this looks set to ramp up big time in North America for the rest of Calendar Year 2024. That this vehicle is going to compete with the Rav4, CRV or Tesla Model Y is of course ridiculous but I guess there was felt a need to "try something." I thought the Pacific could be had as a hybrid so why that couldn't be put into such a product if true is quite the mystery. Plus Stellantis just like GM is suddenly going all in with pure play battery electric full size trucks now so good luck with that one given not just the headstart Ford has had but also Rivian. Plus Rivian is already coming out with an entire 2nd Generation R2 Vehicle lineup. This is all brand new clean sheet stuff which even Tesla is struggling with. Either way Stellantis still has a very impressive market cap unlike Ford and GM.

@@mixedbyfiatcat I seriously hope you're not implying that the Dodge Hornet is "exciting" in any way.

Totally agree. If you want a Hornet, get an AMC. Or even get a Rambler. Not this.
Your experience, must have been very different from ours.
You're kidding, right?
The GT Review by Sarah N Tuned shows all the differences. She wants paddle shifters, it has a power lift gate, the gauges adjust with the volume and track buttons. There is a volume rotary knob in the center console.
I've only seen one Dodge Hornet so far and it wasn't even on the road - it was pulled over at my worksite and seemingly broken down. No surprise there.
Don't... Assume. That's your first mistake
Should I buy one? Hard pass.
But I don’t think anyone else is either. I’m yet to see one on the road.
Just wait. You’ll see them on the road waiting to be taken to the repair shop.
Dodge has some pretty solid styling, but I just don't trust the quality & system-design of the brand enough to buy one.
Please also do a review on mazda cx60 phev and Hyundai santa fe 2024. Greetings from Romania.
Can you review the non-hybrid version of cars as well please?
I would say as long as you're not going to keep it beyond the warranty period that it would be fine if you like the car...it'll fall apart quick though and that's by design
After an hour with this car I found it to be a complete wash. The “performance” dodge emphasized was completely absent. It’s got the gimmicky power shot which gives you a torque bump on launch, but beyond that it had very little response or desire to do so when you pushed it at speed. The 6 speed was sluggish, making the paddle shifters an absolute joke. The trick PHEV setup is pointless because even in electric only mode if you call for too much throttle it’ll re engage the engine. The eAWD seems to exist more for power than it does stability (I drove it during the winter and it didn’t do so well in Canadian snow). And the car feels noticeably heavier than the GT gas only variant. Add the massive cost to it (~55k CAD after rebates) and I was laughing leaving the dealer. The Hornet GT (which I drove back to back with this one) was a much better driving car with a much more capable AWD system, but why would you get a hornet GT when you can get a CX5 / CX50 turbo? Or even a CX30 turbo for that matter.
I test drove the Mazda CX-5 against the Hornet GT and ended up buying the Hornet. The CX-5 was a fine vehicle, but it lacked the more spirited performance and sexy Italian style of the Hornet.
Thank you for reviewing other than Toyota products.
I’m pretty sure hope this will go, yet I still watch :)

Dodge Hornet ❤This!!!
Just a little backstory. I have a 2014 ram 1500 Laramie. I like it quite a bit, I think the uconnect is a very good system and best that I've ever tried. I also liked the fact that it had separate buttons for most functions. I was looking forward to the Dodge Hornet, as I needed a small car as well to get around town and parking. I took a hard pass on the hornet, after quite a bit of research and actually went way off base and bought a used 2023 Subaru Outback Touring XT about 6 weeks ago. The Outback only had about 8,000 mi on it, and it was $10,000 cheaper than a new identical 2024 Outback. While the Subaru infotainment system isn't nearly as good as uconnect in my opinion, overall I like the Outback.
The steering wheel looks nice :)
Plastic sway bar links. They will be replacing them often.
I’m still on my original plastic end links on my Dakota from ‘99, they hold up fine, at least they don’t rot away like the steel bolt type ones.
I stopped buying Dodge years ago because of reliability. Look at the cars in most parking lots around the country. What you'll see are mainly Japanese. Reliable.
Or German and older US cars
German and Japanese are basically taking over most of the US market share.
We bought a new 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L limited with that new Uconnect5. It drove us nutz. We traded that Jeep in after only 6 months for a 2023 Cherokee Trailhawk with the good ole Uconnect4. With the Uconnect5 we would lose our seat memories or NAV while driving down the road. Configuring that digital dash was a nightmare.

It made sense when Dodge made muscle cars. Nowadays? I have a hard time figuring out why a Dodge would be a better choice than the Japanese brands for basic transportation.
Are you going to review that IS300 in the background?
If you go with the GT instead of the RT it has the 2.0L turbo gas engine in it which is a pretty respectable engine for what it is. The base trims also only weighs about 3700lbs that includes AWD and if you don’t get carried away with options you can get it in the mid 30’s.
ALSO, I know nobody wants to hear about cars like this costing over 30k but it’s the year 2024, it’s the nature of the beast, get over it or keep driving what ya got. 🤷🏻♂️
When did Rube Goldberg start designing powertrains for Stellantis? Complexity and unreliability, Thy Name Is DODGE!
The plastic covers for the jacking points is proof they have no clue what they should prioritize or how to spend their money.
The existence of the car is proof they have no idea what they are doing
Alfa-Romeo has used this system on their cars for years, so they obviously see a benefit or they would just delete them and save a little money.
As always an awesome review although I wish a side by side could have been done with the GT or even just the review done on the GT. The R/T is just Dodge asking more than they should for an Alfa Rameo clone and I really think they will just rot on lots. At 30K-35K (btw no one should ever pay MSRP for a Dodge outside of really special units) with the 2.0T the Hornet is not the world's worst deal. I like to think that is the reason we so many (at least around here) R/T's on the lot is that people are not going to pay the money for what they want for an R/T even with discounts. Now if Dodge is focusing more on the R/T trim production wise than this model might as well be DOA.
You have to draw the line somewhere, for me it will a hard no on plastic sway bar links. I do love the ability to ride either FWDorRWD

@@abraham3981 Quite the opposite, their e-cvt are more reliable than all other transmission except for maybe the manual. They work in fundamentally different way compared to normal CVTs, there's no belt that drives the car it's all done through a plantery gearbox.
If anything it resembles the traditional automatic rather than conventional cvts. I've seen and been in plenty of taxis and ubers with toyota hybrids with hundreds of thousands of kilometers with no wear on the transmission to speak of, many of them haven't even changed the transmission fluid so they're running on factory fill.
Automatics are definitely not bad and they don't have that annoying CVT drone associated with e-cvt and conventional cvts but they're more complex, heavier and require more frequent transmission fluid changes if you want them to last long compared to their e-cvt counterparts.
@@abraham3981where are you getting that information? Toyotas eCVTs have a bulletproof reputation. Please don’t mistake this for a normal CVT because it isn’t.
Wow you just saved me from buying one! CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH..
Seen some come into my last job and almost everyone of them had issues, even the non hybrids
I've owned a Hornet GT for a year now with only one issue, a poorly connected wiring loom to the rear window defroster which was quickly fixed under warranty. It has been a great driving vehicle summer and winter. This is the third Alfa-Romeo vehicle I've owned. I still own a 2016 Alfa-Romeo 4C, a mid-engine, two seat sports car, which is an absolute blast to drive.
