NOTE: It's a 100% coincidence that we posted this on the 2nd anniversary of Tom's death -- we had no idea! Just wanted to make it clear that we had no intent to commercialize it or anything like that. His passing was heartbreaking, and we can at least use this as a chance to celebrate the incredible music that he left us. 🙏
I have no idea what you are doing. I just clicked because I read architects. And here am I, sitting through the whole video, without having a clue what its all about, and still loving it.
@@skrrt6975 Check out The Elijah. They were a band that made music similar to that feeling and sound. The singer from that band is now in Being as an Ocean.
Oh man, I had no idea! Just to be clear, it was pure coincidence that this went up on the anniversary of his death. RIP Tom, thank you for your incredible music 🙏
Tom was my hero in everything he did. This is an example of his genius. However the others are overlooked. Dans playing is extraordinary and so technical, giving it so much. The bass is incredible and just fills it in so beautifully. Sams vocals are perfection. Nothing else to it. Adam does all there is needed to help Tom thrive and still thriving in itself
those videos gave me much more respect to the people making music, I had NO IDEA how many tracks bands used and how much each one is worked, I would have guessed some but man this goes really deep
For those who are unclear, this is the ACTUAL song and tracks the band recorded for the song. (I saw a few comments saying they had no clue what was going on but still watched the video.) So it not only helps those of us who are aspiring producers, but is really really really cool to see how the songs get made, and if you pay attention, you can also see the way it was written. I watch all of these with my favorite songs or even bands I like but songs I may not care for. A lot can be learned. Even as someone who isn’t aspiring to produce. You can learn by watching this just how hard it is to do this kind of music. Really puts perspective to the type of person who says “that music takes no talent” and how brainless you really have to be to say something so arrogant. Haha Also the fact there’s no plugins on this, and all the takes are precise and the tones already sound amazing, shows you where your work flow needs to be upon the recording, before any mixing takes place. The whole song depends on wait for it… the recording. The part where so many people get lazy bc they’re too excited about the Joey sturgis plugins they just got. So they rush it and then wonder why his plugins aren’t doing what they advertise. No plug-in on earth will polish a turd into an award winning masterpiece.
When I saw Architects, there was one part when Sam was talking and out of nowhere, the crowd started chanting Tom's name and Sam had to take a second after it quieted down. It was beautiful
its brutal..... was introduced to Architects last week. Spent 2 days burning through their discography, then found out that Tom had passed away. it was like i was walking in a dark cave, someone tossed me a white phosphorous grenade called Architects. Burned so freakin hot and bright, but then realized they may not write without Tom much more.....
Holy Hell was written after Tom's death and whilst it doesn't quite hit the highs that some of the previous albums do, it definitely shows that Architects can carry on his legacy without him :)
I love videos like this. It's always so interesting to see all the elements that go into a song, especially those that you might not pick up on your own. The biggest lesson I learned was the effect the bass has on those heavy low notes. It's incredibly easy to be fooled into thinking that's all guitar, but very clear now to see how the bass is actually an integral part of that equation. Thanks for this!
BRO. I'm learning mixing/recording etc so I can record my own tracks, and right now I'm recording a song vocally inspired by this one- I am in absolute shock that I found this gold mine of a video. Subbed
Architects are the masters of ambiance. So well done, its cool to see how they layer it. I cant sing this song without getting a little emotional, Sam is so fucking passionate...he puts his heart and soul into every word and it's hard to match that...especially when your voice is only 1/4th as powerful as his :P
Really amazing performance and tracking. Nice to see Eyal enjoy it as much as i do! The Sanken CU 31 sounds amazing on snare! Not even layered with a dynamic mic and it already sounds that good!
xjimdim I’m gonna guess a timeline delay setting, although I couldn’t pinpoint it. The reverb if I had to guess is a Cloud setting on a Strymon BigSky with a pretty huge tail. Sounds incredible.
Take any reverb VST, max the "wet" setting and lower the "dry" setting all the way. That will leave only the reverb ambience! And then mess around with the room size and such until you find the sound you're looking for :)
Are these the same drums that are in the mixed version? holy hell, how did Henrik make them sound so freakin fat? The recording is tight but these raw drums sound nothing like the drums in the final mix. I'm speechless.
Even just with EQ, you can change the tone of a drum completely. Like on my bands recording there literally was no Attack on the bass drum, but after boosting a few high Frequencies by 35 dB, i have the clickiest kick drum ever. I also have the most cymbal and snare drum bleed ever but that's another thing
@@hannes1734 I'd assume you would go with very narrow bands with boosts that high? Also how would you say does that do vs using a transient shaper or heavy compression in parallel?
@@xradical89x I don't understand what you are talking about. I don't know more about mixing than a few basic tools like EQ and Reverb and how to use them. Heck, i'm mixing with the free version of N-Track 9 on my phone. Sooo i'm afraid i can't have this conversation with you, i'm sorry lol
Anyone know if theres is another way to get these raw tracks? I dont feel like spending 50 bucks on it and 20 every month when i just bought plugins and gear for $1k
Can you do an Unboxing of TDWP Nickels Is Money Too? Like that track has always felt like a hard punch to the face especially with the beginning and I know Sturgis produced it too!
id love to hear more of the distorted guitars... how many tracks are there? its not just 2x each side, right? there gotta be more, since the tapping is so clean. you cant get that with such a heavy tone.
Is it normal for tracks to be cut and snapped to grid before being sent off to the mix engineer? Or is that something the engineer is suppose to do upon receiving the tracks?

Thanks for watching! Even if you’re not a mixer it’s hopefully still fun to see how they put together a song :)
This is how a song sounds raw when it's recorded, before it's mixed to sound like the final product.
Same here, no idea at all but really interesting
Same thing for me discovered this band recently and love their music so much
Literally same here but it's so cool I wish I know more about all the technical stuff
That quick moment at 12:17, hearing the brothers playing together fucks me up hard..
guitars are sick but those ambience lead guitars ..... mother of ambience they're the most beautiful thing I ever heard in my life man!
God. These guitars give me tears. What a genuis Tom was.
Axe FX is stunning
Black Winter btw Tom never owned an axe fx or even kemper. It’s a diezel herbert mixed with a 6505 and dual rec! And strymom pedals
10:16 "Let's hear that again just cause it's cool"

The sound at 11:11 is Tom’s soul
How fragile is life, just lost Kyle from WCAR too, it's so sad.
Yo this upset me man holy shit😭
They actually used this after they closed their Alexandra Palace show - with "T//S" projected in a heart on stage. Balled my eyes out man.

It's crazy. I'm getting into recording and realizing how much like a puzzle it is. I have huge respect for producers and engineers.
Check out the unboxing of "Doomed" by BMTH. It has an INSANE amount of tracks.
What a powerfull song... Vocals are incredibly passionate
As a vocalist myself, these vocals just leave my jaw on the floor. So, so, so good. Unbelievable.
How sick are those guitars?!
Vocals at 14:00
Holy shit Sam is a great vocalist. Chills everytime
13:26 This may be one of the heaviest things I've heard and it's all raw...
Immediately subbed.
Appreciate the support!

Could have cried watching this. Great arrangement! Rip Tom

Those ambient guitars made me cry. Not even kidding.
one of the best songs/arrangements. Tom was at his prime and I still miss him to this day
14:25 - "whats this REV VOX" - followed by a demonic sounding Sam. Love it!
Love this!!! The lead @11:11 captures so much emotion it's almost unbearable. This song means so much!

What about to unbox something from “Holy Hell”? Josh and Nolly did great job with the sound
T//S forever

Excited to see where this is going. I'd personally struggle with separating the E-Kit from the acoustic one without making a mess of the low end.
That song gives me the chills every time I hear it. So melodic and just well arranged 🤘

The ambience guitars are literal heaven

That guitar tone does good things to my ears.

impressive comp and arranging with such a powerful track as an outcome
I'd love to hear this song with a more organic mix, the guitars and drums sound so good without any production already!

11:12 That isolated lead guitar in the chorus sounds so painfully sad. Fuck man.
This is a really wonderfull song
I'd give a kidney if someone told me exactly the effects used at 11:12
a stereo delay and something of a really ambient reverb, like a strymon bigsky or an eventide space reverb
whoops, no stereo delay, as it's an mono track

The comments here are pretty much on the money, Tom had the three big Strymon pedals; Timeline, Mobius and Big Sky.
