I was an intern at studio fredman when they recorded this album. I think Lee used an Ibanez with EMGs. Very thick strings, like .80 on low E.

Lee’s always played strings that are way thicker than they need to be for the tunings they play in, for sure! .80 for Drop A#, think he uses a 60-70 for C too. Clearly the dude loves the feel of super heavy strings.
Interesting to know that it was an Ibanez with EMGs. Guess it was way before Lee found his love for Epiphone.
@@deviltelletubbie i think its also for preference of tone. you can notice on all their albums that the guitars sound so noticably thicker than a lot of other bands in the same tuning with comparably thick amp tones. I think that .80 on the A# is a massive part of their massive tone honestly.
Around that time, he also had a custom First Act Sheena with a Bareknuckle War Pig in the bridge and single coil in the neck postion.

BMTH guitar tones during SS - Sempiternal albums are incredible. Almost their signature sound that they quite lost with TTS.

I agree they add such a distinct style but now they’ve strayed away from them, of course bands are allowed to change and do as they please, but man I miss this sound

Oli ruptured his vocal cords earlier this year. That's the only time. He never "tore his vocal cords" before, during, or immediately after Suicide Season. That's a rumor.

@@nicolasgorszczyk9291 That has nothing to do with "tearing your vocal cords" BMTH changed sounds with almost every album. From their EP to their current album, no two albums sound the same. He was changing his screams to fit the new music they were playing and just didn't have the new screams down pat yet. Not because he hurt himself. Plus, if he DID hurt himself, he wouldn't be performing live. If he did, he wouldn't be able to speak today for causing permanent damage to his vocal cords.
I've been a metal vocalist for almost 20 years. I've screamed like Oli on Count Your Blessings for 12 or so of those years. At no point do those screams hurt your vocal cords.
You're speculating about it because his new screams sounded bad when he was in the middle of two styles'. Go find me a single reputable music news article from around that time that says he had any sort of vocal damage. You can't find one. You WILL however find one from earlier this year stating he ruptured his vocal cords. THIS YEAR.

He actually probably used a Gibson, it has a really 490 T type sound on the track, and it sounds super layered

Wish you could unbox Of Mice and Men’s ‘The Storm’ I know Austin Carlile really put his heart out in the vocals for that specific song.

All four of those songs tbh. Those songs are really the epitome of Of Mice & Men imo. Anger, power, pain, beautiful cleans, and angsty screams. The rises and falls of emotion in those four Deluxe Edition songs are just... SO great.

This song SLAYS! My biggest issue with the original mix was how brick walled it sounded. Someone made all the instruments so squashed and melded them together making no space for any instruments to breath. Hearing the original tracks feels so much better. I wish I had a NTM to give my go at this.
This reminds me very much of the sound we get in our "home-studio" without the room mic. I've mixed drums like that for years now and now I can make them sound incredible, the room mic helps a lot, though.

Always love the content and urm/nailthemix. I know constructive criticism can be tough so I’ll try and be tactful. I think y’all would really benefit from just merging urm and nail the mix branding. Ive been following you for years and o honestly could only describe the line that separates the two very vaguely, and it really takes away from the intuitiveness of the website, and adds a bit of confusion. Obviously it’s your business, but I just thought I’d throw in my two cents that consolidating the names might make it a lot easier for people to signup for you programs, and navigate the website. 5150/6505, tube screamer, cab with v30s. Eq to taste but I remember seeing a pic of his live eq during this era and bass was about 6 or 7 and mids and treble were both at about 4.

With all due respect, it would’ve been better if we could listen to the track straight through without continuous analysis. Gives the fans a chance to have chances to appreciate both reasons of the video.
What's a "drum room"?
Generally, it's a drum track that you record with a mic (or more) placed further away from the drum kit than the close mics and overhead mics, in order to get a more roomy, distant sound.

I love the band and the producers are legendary however... this is going to catch people off guard but I really dont care for the mix of this album. The low end of the guitars and bass seem to compete and drown out the bass drums. The snare sounds very small and distant. Guitars are not bad but almost have a heavy muddy weight to them. Its purely subjective of course. Still love the band and respect the producers and I admit Im personally unbearably picky about production. Maybe too much. 🤷
