Hello! I just bought the apple tv 4k. It is connected to an older Sony LED 48" display from 2012-2013. I do not see a Chroma option in mine but the rest I have set as per your advice, i.e. 1080p SDR(as it is an older 1080p panel) followed by HDMI to YCbCr and finally Match Range and Frame rate. I would like to know if I should fruther Calibrate with the front facing camera to TV method or leave it as is. I mainly use the Apple TV for RUclips, Amazon Prime Video and Netflix. Thank you for your time : )
Randomly found this video and I'm so glad that I found it! Thank you so much for this! Now I'm watching the latest Avengers movie the way it was intended 🙌😁
What do you set your TV to? I have a 4K LG OLED and it does not have similar picture setting, TV has more like Cinema, Vivid, Sports..Thanks in advance
That’s not really related to this. These are settings for Apple tv which is an output source. You are asking about settings for a display. I would refer you back to the specialist who sold you the TV
I have an Apple TV 4K with an LG OLED 4K. My settings of HDR 4:2:2 is wrong all this time. I remember getting my television back in 2016 and only knew that 4K, OLED and HDR are good for a TV. I had no idea about HDMI 1.4 vs 2.0 vs 2.1, refresh rate, bit depth, bitrate, nits or chroma. Life would be so much easier if Apple would just hurry up and make their very on OLED television set.
Hello thanks for the video, I have recently upgraded to Apple 4k from a previous version of Apple TV and now my JVC LX-UH1 Projector will not pick up the signal. My TV which runs through the same Yamaha RX-A880 works fine. When I select the relevant scene on the receiver for the apple TV the projector and the receiver just appear to send the signal back and forward with a blue and black screen intermittently appearing. Any ideas as it worked fine before upgrading the Apple TV to 4K? Thanks
Awesome informative video, I chose to use HDR in setup, because I have an HDR tv, so obvious choice right? Once I changed to your settings, all was right in the world. In Apple TV HDR mode, it locked the settings for my qled samsung tv. Also a lot of shows were very dark on Netflix. All is fixed now, THANK YOU!!!
Thank you so much for the explanation! Do I have to turn off HDR on TV or do I have to turn it on using some specific setup? Since Apple TV matches the original source and send it forward to the TV, if TV's HDR is set to on will it override the data passed by Apple TV and mess with the image? What about the setup of brightness, colour, contrast and other things on TV?
Great video folks! My Apple TV 4k is my primary source for viewing 4k content. Off to reset my AppleTV 4k I go! Thank you much. UPDATE: I put the exact same settings on my Apple TV that you did in your video. Watched some HDR, and SDR content. The picture quality is awesome. Thanks again!
@@chrissnyder7968 To my current understanding of Maths, 60Hz is more than 50 Hz. Thus, selecting 60 will give you more refreshes per second (10 to be exact) and thus a smoother Image.
Hi, thanks for this video. I got an apple TV 4k but I have a Samsung HDTV (not 4K) and noticed that the colors are a bit distorted, too warm (everything looks reddish). Are apple TV 4ks not compatible with old TV sets? What's the best setting in this case? Appreciate your help.
Thanks for the helpful tip on SDR setting! My Samsung Q95T TV does not support Dolby Vision and when I use Apple TV 4K box and set picture format to HDR, I noticed almost all movies are forced to Dolby Vision and always appear to be darker and less sharp compare to the built in Apple TV APP. I thought there was something wrong with my TV but now after I set it to SDR everything is much brighter and sharper! Thanks again!! :)
Thanks for the upload. I am a streaming app tester on tvOS and the device wants to automatically set to Dolby Vision output. Of course, doing this introduced all kinds of artifacts. Glad to know why now and how to set up the device so that I won't see them.
I would really need to know a fair bit more.. It will only normally output DV if the display is DV compatible. As we normally deal in projectors that don't display DV this is not something that impacts us. I have not seen an apple tv just force DV I don't recall and am surprised you are seeing "all kinds of artifacts" we are probably not best placed to really assist you with this given our work scope..
Two questions : Is it somehow possible to passthrough Atmos to my Reciever or Sounbar with Apple TV ? Second : Is there anyway to play usb movies or NAS movies with Apple TV Thank you so much for these helpful videos ❤️
Thank you for the “super” ! Yes you can pass atmos from appletv to receiver and sound-bar if of course they themselves support it. The best way is direct so Apple TV to reciever then receiver to tv. Or you can use arc or earc. With regards to streaming from a nas try “Infuse” app
Not sure I fully understand. But if your TV is DV capable and has been properly setup or even calibrated then it should look fine. HDR and Dolby Vision can look bad if forced to a display that is not setup for it or enabled. Look into the settings to ensure higher dynamic range content is setup on your TV on many it needs to be enabled....
Yeah sorry, everything was forced to Dolby vision which made it look darker. Now is better after changing the settings. Could you do a video on the difference between Apple TV content and playing from Blu-ray when it comes to Audio?
@@HomeTheatreEngineering netflix looks brighter and sharper on my samsung au7000 native app than on apple tv 4k Netflix which produces flickering too so strange
Literally saw your video in my feed and not sure why..... but you have revived my viewing experience!!!! Thank you! I thought I had everything set up perfectly with dolby vision enabled match content blah blah, but alllllways wondered why the picture varied so much and was never pleased 100% of the time. Well this is why. Thank you again! Only question I have now is why 50hz over 60hz? I chose 4kSDR 60hz on mine after watching your video Im assuming its based on the tv? My tv can do 60 so I should chose it over 50 correct? Thanks again!
What about 4K Dolby Vision as the default Format? Have an OLED TV and it chose this. I did choose On for both on Match Content. Will this still hold true on my current setup?
From our tests the settings we proposed will still give you DV but as not all content is in DV then you will receive it as HDR10 for example. Best of both worlds
One thing I noticed was that my television suddenly started changing resolutions way more often. Would it be logical to set the format to the most often streamed resolution and then let the system figure out when to change? Most of my content is probably 1080P SDR (i.e. Television and HD Films). I do watch as much 4K format (SDR and HDR) as often as it's available, but it is still not the majority. Any downside to this that you can see?
If you consistently watch the same content it shouldnt be changing tjat often. There may be a handshake between and sdr menus and hdr content but that should not be too bad. If you do watch the same content then for sure try it but we have not tested every configuration. We do know this caters for all options at the moment. Hope this helps?
I've had an apple TV 4K for a year now and I randomly came across and my quality just got so much better following this!!! I'm so mad I didn't find this earlier, Wtf. 🤦🏽♂️
Wich one would I take 4k-sdr 50hz or 4k-sdr 60hz for the sony vpl-vw590es "715" Also do you have a pointer how to set the oppo udp-203 4k bluray player. Just have it at source direct Now. Best regards
Great vid, thanks. Sorts out my LG B6V nicely. It has however stopped my Hue Sync light strip working with Apple TV which is odd? Works fine when using Netflix, Prime, iPlayer, etc, through Apple TV box but not Apple TV+, any ideas?
Man I just found this video but I too had issues with black scenes looking all pixelated...I always wondered why but now I know why and hopefully this fixes that issue!
Hello, Great video!! Can you make a video about just audio out on the Apple TV please and what’s best when you have Soundbar on tv or can you just reply on the below explanation? I have a Soundbar connected to the tv and when playing a video on Apple TV, I choose Soundbar as audio out, but when I stopped watching Tv and turn it off and go back to watch it later on, the audio out goes back to just “Apple TV”, and not Soundbar. When it goes back to Apple TV Audio out, there is audio but when is on Soundbar it sounds better. Do I have to switch it to Soundbar every time I watch content on Apple TV? The Soundbar is on ARC to the tv. Thanks for you time and I appreciate an opinion!!
This is an interesting video, however, my experience on my Samsung HDR TV is that forced 4K HDR 60hz always looks great, ive never had an issue like you described.
With forced HDR then SDR content should not look great..? On some samsungs you need to enable HDR as I recall. But for sure non HDR and HDR content should be treated differently and you should be seeing that..?
@@McAdamstry Hi, no thats incorrect. HDR is quite misunderstood and this is one of those misunderstandings. If you paused a bright HDR screen image for time on some panels maybe. But thats about it.

Hi, I am new in Apple TV 4k since a few days! I like it very much but I have 1 problem that makes me return to my Amazon fire tv stick. I mostly watch with my Bluetooth Headphones, Audio Technica ATH M50Xbt. When I watch with the fire tv stick the sound is amazing, very loud and like surround sound! But when I switch to the Apple TV 4K the sound is very quiet (like 50% with the fire tv stick) and not effect full). Do you know how to solve that problem? Is the sound not as good as with the fire tv or is there a hidden audio setting I can not find? I like the Apple TV more but with that bad sound I have to stay with the fire tv stick. Thanks in advance and greetings from Germany! :)
Great video tons of help. I have a question. I have a Sony 8AH and a Sony HT-ST5000 sound bar. Both Dolby Atmos comparable. I hooked up my Apple TV to the sound bar using a 18 Gbps HDMI cable that is Atmos compatible. Now when I go to my 4K Apple TV settings under chroma I can only choose 2:2:O. When I choose 4:4:4 it does not let me. I try to switch it and it try’s then says unable to and reverts to previous settings. For fun I try to enable Dolby Vision and it’s give me the same results. Format is set to 4K SDR and Match Content is on. Is this something I should be worried about or should I be fine. I tried everything and still get the same results. Would appreciate any help. Great channel keep up the great work. On a side not. It’s weird but I get Dolby Atmos on my TV Netflix app but not on Apple TV app. Do you known what that’s is about. It bugs me. Thank you.
I want to add a weird detail. I like the areal screen savers. They are hdr and gorgeous. If I switch the system default to sdr, I won’t be seeing them in their full glory. Plus the forced system-wide hdr doesn’t look weird for me on my Philips oled tv.
Hello good afternoon I want to buy an Apple TV what interests me is if the image quality improves in relation to my image that the TV gives me and if the sports pages improve in scaling thanks
Thank you so much! I followed your suggestion and and it solved a flickering issue with my Apple TV in RUclips app. With your settings, flickering gone and when I’m in Disney plus AppleTV notices the Dolby vision and the logo pop up on my tv when I watch content which is Dolby vision. Just as I wanted!
The Apple TV still has a bug where if you have both frame and range match on it always goes to 12-bit colour on frame rates below 60Hz (because there is enough band width in the HDMI to support it) and this 12-bit can cause colour banding on some displays and projectors. When you turn frame match off and fix to 60Hz the banding persists unless you reset the video options and then only set range match. Provided your projector or TV can reverse telecine with a 120Hz panel all co tent will playback smoothly but the ATV with leave the HDR colour at 10-bit which is correct given there isn’t a single 12-bit display available on the market yet. It also eliminates colour banding.
Home Theatre Engineering No problem, I found the issue on the AVS forums from people complaint about banding when frame rates are lower. Using the fury box you map out all the video modes the ATV uses and all HDR modes are 12-bit except the 10-bit 60Hz mode mentioned above. The work around is reset all video setting and then force 60Hz to lock in the 10-bit colour depth. Not sure why Apple doesn’t allow 10-bit colour on 24 and 30Hz options.
Those settings are only for a projector or TV also?

After much experimenting with many different streaming sources, I think the Apple TV’s default settings look best. Apple’s upscaling and processing to send the TV an HDR signal is outstanding. If the picture doesn’t look right on your TV, it’s more likely to be the TV’s own HDR settings that need to be tweaked. Also, having to use different picture settings on your TV depending on which format is being used gets old quickly, especially if you use different ones for night and day viewing. I recommend leaving the Apple TV alone and tweaking the TV instead. Like the standard SDR settings, the TV’s default out-of-the-box HDR settings are probably way overcooked anyway. The Apple TV’s HDR is not.
I know you posted this a year ago but it slipped past us. Obviously people are welcome to watch and to set their system any way they want so we will not criticise that. As the video clearly shows with captured metadata the settings we propose and that are also recommended by lumagen Madvr Barco and many others result in the correct signal or output in all formats. You should not need to change anything at all on your TV so something is not right there. We do Say a TV should be calibrated because it doesn’t matter how good the signal you send it is if it is not. So far in 100% of cases we have looked at where people are not getting the correct outcome with these settings then there has been a setting missed in the TV. ..we have over 60 rooms now including our showrooms running with this config and we have measured and tested the outcome repeatedly and are getting perfect results.. hope this helps
Thank you for your video! I have a sound bar that is connected to the ARC at the back of my TV. Now recently I bought the Apple TV 4K and connected it to the HDMI 2. Have I connected it correctly? Or should I connect the Apple TV 4K to the ARC? Thanks again Roger
SharkMediaServices any chance you’ve found a nice setting for 24p programs? I still find they skip a frame every once and a while? And yes it’s frustrating changing from 60 to 50 when watching local content (Australian) and then back to 60 for smooth screen savers and music videos.
@@McAdamstry we find this is very dependant on the display and how it handles motion. Have a look at your motion settings on your TV or Projector and see if this helps.
@@McAdamstry agreed though some TV's now auto switch into game mode at higher frequency when it identifies a game console. Obviously not sure what products you have but this could also be a factor..
Home Theatre Engineering thanks for the reply but I turn off game mode when watching shows on Xbox so it’s running basically the same as the Apple TV. In saying this, just watched toy story 4 on Xbox and I think I saw a judder here and there. Oh well.
Hi you've been posting some great content which i keep watching , I’ve got the marantz AV- 7706 Processor i want to hook-up the new apple tv 4k to my processor, want to know if I'll be able to stream 4k dolby atmos content from Netflix, Prime , Disney etc. to my processor which is hooked up to my LG G3-77 inch TV

Great video. Have my Apple 4K on TLC 4K HDR set up similar except for Chroma. When watching Disney plus movies it switches to Dolby Vision but screen get a bit darker compared to regular HD and 4K HDR!
Hello from the Future (Jan 2023) - Would you say these settings still hold true today with the new Apple TV 4K 2022 ? I just went to check my settings for my ATV 4K 2022 and I noticed an additional new menu for HDR10+ and when I selected the first menu dropdown at the top for Video, there is now a host of options to choose HDR10+ as a default option along with 4K and 50Hz or 60Hz... there are LOTS of choices in my list. I have a 2018 Samsung Q9 75" display and use the ATV 4K 2022 as the sole source for streaming and content. Thanks for such a great video. I have changed the Chroma from 4:2:0 to 4:2:2 which is the highest setting offered in the menu and the ATV seemed happy with that.
Hi Yes these settings have been tested and are still valid. Using them will automatically engage the correct colourspace etc including HDR10+ if a display accepts it. When we get a chance we will post an update but in short the settings are still correct :-)
Myself like the other viewer just happened to come across this learning moment SHOUT OUT THANK YOU !! I’m looking forward to try it out on my new Sony 950G I’m also going to subscribe thanks again
Home Theatre Engineering i have a 950g also and i find that the blacks are crushed sometimes when i watch a dolby vision movie , birds of prey for example. But the whiter scenes are always stunning, but im really annoyed by the too dark blacks. What to do?
@@sixfeetunder0105 Its hard to say without knowing everything about your system or seeing it. The most common issues are a) The TV hasn't been calibrated so black levels and white levels (brightness and contrast) are not set correctly. B) The NIT level of the TV is not sufficient for the ambient light in the room it is in. If you make the room totally black you may find it looks terrific but at daytime with the lights on it will be unwatcheable. This is something many dont realise. I often calibrate 2 settings one for daytime and one for nightime for example. The last thing is to ensure that your content and TV are doing the right thing. Is it actually displaying DV or HDR and is the content really DV or HDR etc. Often this is the other culprit.
This is an excellent video and I'm confident I'll finally get an accurate answer to my question from you so please reply. My TV supports HDR but it's brightness levels aren't enough. Will turning OFF match dynamic range with 4ksdr ensure all HDR content comes in as 4k SDR?
Sorry we have been on leave. I really don't have enough information but there are almost no TV that support the true NIT levels required of HDR (up to 10,000 Nits but at least lets say 2,000) so all TV's tone map to some degree. So leave match range on and if you are having an issue then your TV needs calibrating or adjusting at least.
Is there anyway you can tell me how to make my wireless Bluetooth earbuds work good with the apple tv? I just got the new apple tv 4k and the audio in my earbuds comes through a second faster than the picture on the screen and it’s just depressing because I’ve tried to mess around with everything and nothing fixes it.
The screen saver and any other content will be shown in its transmitted format. You shouldnt be missing out there. But... we will test this to confirm 100%. Remember the info button on your display should nornally give you the details on the signal being recieved so you can check there too.
Home Theatre Engineering I’m only getting one screen saver video of I do the setting you said but if I got to HDR 4K 60 I get all of them any ideas why that is ?!
Yes it makes a big difference. If you have HDR on (or off) and don’t match content then the colour space will likely be wrong so REC709 content will be forced to BT2020 etc but try it for yourself
Got a Apple TV 4K connected to my Samsung s95b with no soundbar and for the life of me I can’t fix the audio delay. Any suggestions. New cable needed maybe?
Hi Andrew and Enzo. Is the AppleTV 4K the BEST 4K streamer? Have you compared the audio/video bitstreams across the various streaming platforms like VUDU, Amazon Prime etc? I like the AppleTV 4K but the audio is often PCM multi channel going into my Denon receiver. Vudu SOUNDS a lot better to me and at least has DOlby Digital 5.1 surround and Atmos onmany 4K titles. What are your thoughts on the BEST 4K movie streamer?
Hopefully you guys will see this after so long. Just recently upgraded to a 4K projector. When I use the Apple TV match frame rate and dynamic range settings, there’s an annoying lag while the projector switches or searches for input. Is it the case that you have to live with that in order to use these settings or is there another option?
Yep that is perfectly normal. Projectors take much longer changing color space, frame rate etc than a TV so yes if you want to see varying content in its correct format then you have to wait for the change/handshake
Great Video, My Question is there a way to completely turn off my Samsung TV with the Apple TV remote. NOW, the Apple TV remote only option is to put the Apple TV to Sleep, so it does turn off the Samsung TV for 30 seconds, and then the Samsung TV comes back on requiring me to use the TV remote to power off the TV. Any ideas to get the TV to stay turned off?? Thanks
Sorry it took 9 months for someone to answer this for you. SETTINGS > REMOTES and DEVICES > HOME THEATER CONTROL > CONTROL TVS AND RECEIVERS(must be “ON”) > VOLUME CONTROL (“Auto Via IR”). Let me know if that works
Thanks for this. Any thoughts on why I have to reattach my home pod mini speakers every day after turning off my apple tv? It seems to default to tv speakers. This is a pain.
As custom cinema designers we dont use home pod speakers but we have seen similar behaviour with some ATV4K 2nd Gen. I believe this is a CEC issue and it seems to be addressed in the Gen3 version
Are these settings intended for a 4K tv? I have a Sony 1080 tv I’ve noticed some iTunes movies look a little diff old if you will and was wondering if it was just my tv being outdated or my settings..I followed your suggestions and the picture looks Greyish when watching the movie...any suggestions for me.
Just subscribed! I’m going to buy a 4K HDR 10..but right now I have a HD tv. Is it correct that my Apple tv 4k only displays HD options and no 4K options. Is it the hdmi cable or does apple tv 4k recognize that my tv is only HD. Just want to make sure my apple tv 4k is functioning ok. Appreciate if you can help out! Thanks(I do understand not to choose 4K resolutions for my current HD tv, just want to know why I can’t see 4K options which I want for my future 4K tv)
Hi. GREAT question! We have a video on this coming up soon.. the way this works is via a thing called EDID. It is electronic communication between the display and the source, in this case your apple TV. The display tells anthing it is connected to exactly what it is capable of. There source gets this info and behaves accordingly. It (should) then switch and supply the correct signal to the TV which then in turn displays it the way the source has provided it. So yes, your apple tv will only display formats your current TV is capable of. The catch is that sometimes this system breaks down. So from time to time people can find their system is a bit stuck and they end up mucking around a bit to make sure the devices are talking properly. Hope this helps.
Home Theatre Engineering ah thanks man, greatly appreciated! I’m becoming a pretty good colorist, working with davinci resolve. So basically it works like an in and output device for monitoring, like the ultrastudios of blackmagic design which can recognize the input source and feeds the correct signal. I’m getting there step by step as far as understanding color science, color spaces etc. That’s the biggest reason why I love apple tv 4K, this device provides a correct and incredible image experience, which in the past frustrated me, because regular tv channels often mess up the signal the way it is supposed to be broadcast, at least their user boxes aren’t up to the task. Thanks again, can’t wait to see more content on your channel !
AppleTV cannot “improve” the picture quality of your TV. Nothing can (up with except calibration) but it may have better streaming capabilities. So in that sense it may look a little better but at the end of the day your tv is the limiting factor
Great Video! thank you. I seem to be having issues with my TV flickering constantly with these settings when connecting my Apple TV 4k through my soundbar (Samsung Q95T). I need to connect this way to get ATMOS. I've connected through EARC HDMI from soundbar to TV. Is this because the apple TV can't determine my TV's capabilities (Sony X900H) because there's a middleman in the process (soundbar)? Any ideas?
Sounds like an hdmi cable or edid issue to me.. I am not totally clear from your description as to how you have this comfigured it seems like your appletv is connected to soundbar then earc to tv if thos is case it should be fine but check those 2 items..
We have a Samsung 1080p tv with an older Apple TV HD (silver remote). Is it worth it to upgrade to an Apple 4K with a 1080p tv? Would these settings you've mentioned above even apply to us at that point?
If you plan to change your tv later then yes. If not get an appletv 1080 version. You might save a few $ ? As far as settings go not really. You don’t have 4K or HDR or Dolby vision .
Thanks for the reply. We already have the 1080p Apple TV version. We’ll be getting the Sennheiser Ambeo next month. 1) With this soundbar, is it worth it to upgrade to the Apple TV 4K for the sound alone? 2) Are there a lot of Dolby Atmos, DTS-X, 7.1 and DTS steaming titles out there?
Thank you. Not that I am aware of with an on screen display. There are cheaper versions by hdfury that you can connect to and log in for the info and probably other products I am not aware of. Most displays though will give you the critical info you want on their information page sometimes via a hidden or long button press. Projectors almost definitely.
I am not sure what you are actually trying to do. Any 4k TV upscales from 1080P ??? The appletv is not essentially a scaler but it can change resolution for different devices but normally downscaling if anything. Also you are less likely to use the atv4k for external source movies.
The only issue i have is, if you put the setting in 4K SDR, any apple movies you watch won't be in Dolby Vision, or will it switch to DV for apple movies as well?
@@zski1 The screen savers should look fine. Make sure you are updating your screen savers and check all your settings. They should be shown in exactly the correct format.
Thanks for the video it was great!! My issue is a buzzing noise sound when I press play on Netflix, prime, showtime. I have a cinnamon optical audio cable going directly to my Soundbar from my tv. When I enable range and frame rate on my Apple TV 4K that’s when I notice the issue. When these are enabled, and I press play on any movie, I hear a loud noise/buzzing(it almost seems like the tv is trying to match the content) and then the buzzing/noise goes away after 2 seconds and the movie plays perfectly. When I disable the match and frame rate I don’t hear any buzzing/noise. Is there a fix for this. I want to keep these setting enabled but it’s a bit annoying to hear the buzzing sound
I have a Sony projector, the 675 yes, that is limited to 13.5 GHz transmission, hence it will only do 60 FPS 4K in 8 bit color. When viewing 4K HDR I would prefer 24 FPS in the wrecked 2020 space. What settings would be most appropriate for this projector?
Cliff Tomas ? Hi Cliff. The settings we have given are appropriate for your projector but you could opt to select to force the settings you want such as 24fps HDR. Which is one of the drop down options. Personally I would use the settings we recommended and it should give you what you are chasing dependant on the source material. You would probably not want to force HDR on non HDR content. Hope I understood you correctly.

Hi I don’t know whether to do 4K SDR 50HZ or 60HZ? Can you advise? Thank you
Thank you for the great information. One question if I may, if your TV supports either 50hz or 60hz, is one preferable over the other? Cheers.
Well, 60Hz is more so your image is gonna look smoother with that enabled.
Is “more” what?
@@chrissnyder7968 To my current understanding of Maths, 60Hz is more than 50 Hz. Thus, selecting 60 will give you more refreshes per second (10 to be exact) and thus a smoother Image.
Use 60
Second : Is there anyway to play usb movies or NAS movies with Apple TV
Thank you so much for these helpful videos ❤️
Thank you for the “super” ! Yes you can pass atmos from appletv to receiver and sound-bar if of course they themselves support it. The best way is direct so Apple TV to reciever then receiver to tv. Or you can use arc or earc. With regards to streaming from a nas try “Infuse” app
Thanks for the video I noticed everything was looking in Dolby vision and looked darker.
Yes we chose 50Hz being in Australia but 60hz is just as valid and arguably perhaps the better option.
This was really helpful! Finally watching TV the right way since buying the 4K Apple TV 🙌🏼
There's a lot to Apple TV - you ought to cover profiles in TVOS 13 and what they control.
Will see what we can do.. A bit busy but we have had a few requests so will try to get to it.
Wich one would I take 4k-sdr 50hz or 4k-sdr 60hz for the sony vpl-vw590es "715"
Also do you have a pointer how to set the oppo udp-203 4k bluray player. Just have it at source direct
Now.

Thank you so much , I’ve been trying to work it out for a long time and you just fixed it.
Great vid, thanks. Sorts out my LG B6V nicely. It has however stopped my Hue Sync light strip working with Apple TV which is odd? Works fine when using Netflix, Prime, iPlayer, etc, through Apple TV box but not Apple TV+, any ideas?
This fixed my blacks looking pixelated on a ton content
johnclark3 mine too
Man I just found this video but I too had issues with black scenes looking all pixelated...I always wondered why but now I know why and hopefully this fixes that issue!
Hello,
Great video!!
Be careful. Sometimes HDR on all the time can wear the screen out. So I’ve heard.

Thanks. Simple to follow, great explanation. Well done and greatly appreciated.
If watching HDR content and you pause the show the screensaver will show in HDR.

Hello good afternoon I want to buy an Apple TV what interests me is if the image quality improves in relation to my image that the TV gives me and if the sports pages improve in scaling thanks
Good stuff guys. This is so important to get right. Thanks for the clear explanations.
Will check this out. Thank you!
So far in 100% of cases we have looked at where people are not getting the correct outcome with these settings then there has been a setting missed in the TV. ..we have over 60 rooms now including our showrooms running with this config and we have measured and tested the outcome repeatedly and are getting perfect results.. hope this helps

if you like watching the apple aerial screensavers withour stuttering you should use SDR 60Hz.
Home Theatre Engineering the Xbox one X playing 24p content has no issues. Strange that the Apple TV 4K does.
Oh well.

Does Chroma 4:4:4 make a huge difference compared to chroma 4:2:0?
Great video. Have my Apple 4K on TLC 4K HDR set up similar except for Chroma. When watching Disney plus movies it switches to Dolby Vision but screen get a bit darker compared to regular HD and 4K HDR!
That is likely a variation in your calibrations..
Well made video thanks I'll give it a try. Is this the same setting for my LG 4K tv?
Yes as long as your LG TV is properly set up to receive HDR 4K BT2020 video

Maxim N Have you looked at your picture presets. The 950G has 2 Dolby Vision Settings. Light and dark. Try the light setting..
Interesting, definitely going to give this a try.
Thanks for the simple explanation for my Apple TV 4K and why! Bravo well done!👏🏻🍎📺
Great tips! Thnx 👍🏼
What about the screen saver video?
The screen saver and any other content will be shown in its transmitted format. You shouldnt be missing out there. But... we will test this to confirm 100%. Remember the info button on your display should nornally give you the details on the signal being recieved so you can check there too.

What’s the point in matching content does it make any difference expect having to wait 10 to 20 for the video to show up on screen?
Yes it makes a big difference. If you have HDR on (or off) and don’t match content then the colour space will likely be wrong so REC709 content will be forced to BT2020 etc but try it for yourself
Why Apple doesn’t make this obvious is beyond me. Thank you.
I thought my TV sucked
I set up how you suggested here and the difference is like night and day. My screen looks so much better now! I’m amazed. Thank you so much!
On the video my apple tv says Dolby vision not HDR?
If you have a dolby vision compatible display then this is exactly what should happen. If I understood correctly this is working perfectly.
This is also correct. Dolby Vision and HDR10+ are consider higher versions of HDR.
I have 4k Dolby as an option. Should I still follow this idea?
Thank you. Very helpful.
Thanks again, can’t wait to see more content on your channel
!
If I buy a cheap Chinese TV and use Apple TV will it improve my picture quality or should I use a good TV with Apple TV.
Is it still needed to use SDR to get the HDR content. Was it OS issue or is it still needed to be put. Thanks
still need it
@@HomeTheatreEngineering Thanks for the info.
Great video! Is there an inexpensive device that simply shows the signal information like the Vertex but at a lower cost?
Thank you. Not that I am aware of with an on screen display. There are cheaper versions by hdfury that you can connect to and log in for the info and probably other products I am not aware of. Most displays though will give you the critical info you want on their information page sometimes via a hidden or long button press. Projectors almost definitely.
Now what if you have the 4K Apple TV Box. I have it set to 4K Dolby Vision & Match Content off. Would you still pick 4K SDR & turn on Match Content ?
I’m sorry I don’t understand your question. This are the settings for the AppleTV 4K box ? So yes the answer is 4K SDR and match range and rate on.
What about using Dolby Vision vs HDR or SDR? Would the menus blow out the same with Dolby? Is it even worth it?
Its always worth viewing content as it was intended..
What’s the best television to use on an Apple TV? I want to also upscale my movies which are only 1080p to 4k, does the Apple TV handle upscaling?
I am not sure what you are actually trying to do. Any 4k TV upscales from 1080P ??? The appletv is not essentially a scaler but it can change resolution for different devices but normally downscaling if anything. Also you are less likely to use the atv4k for external source movies.
Any changes for the new Apple TV 4K 2021? Thanks!
Hi we haven’t got hold of those here yet. Hope too soon
The only issue i have is, if you put the setting in 4K SDR, any apple movies you watch won't be in Dolby Vision, or will it switch to DV for apple movies as well?
Yes it will and does switch to Dolby Vision

Hope I understood you correctly.
thanks for explanation. what about atmos? does it work out of the box?
If the track has atmos and you have an atmos processor and spkrs then yes..
I purchased the new Apple TV 2021 when I play Netflix or HBOMAX in sdr I’m not getting audio signal in Dolby Digital Plus but when I play something in atmos I get Dolby Atmos DD plus I wonder why when I play in SDR?
