The new version supports HDMI 2.1, but it’s still limited to 4K at 60Hz like the old version (for now at least). I may have to do some audio tests to see if there have been any improvements there. Also a lot of people are using 4K SDR as their default output and matching dynamic range, which is another great option since you have 4:4:4 chroma (higher quality) available.
I also prefer use SDR by default because otherwise it forces Dolby vison on SDR contents like the RUclips app for example (still no HDR on it by the way), which I really don’t like.
@@Djems94 The new ATV does play back 4k/60/HDR youtube video's. But you must manually switch to HDR mode, it does not auto-switch like netflix/amazon. You can see the stream youtube is sending you in the youtube app options.
@@mikeweatherford5312 can confirm this is the case, which is very frustrating. Because in order to enjoy RUclips VP9 HDR videos, you have to set the ATV video output to HDR (rather than SDR or Dolby Vision), but then the entire Apple TV interface, as well as any SDR video content on RUclips, will all be tone mapped to HDR10. This is mainly because Google has not bothered to support Match Dynamic Range *or* Match Frame Rate that Netflix, Disney+ etc all support. This means, you guessed it, 24p content (or any frame rate) on RUclips is all forced at 50Hz or 60Hz (depending on your settings). My guess is they want to avoid the blackout when changing dynamic range or frame rates, esp since a lot of YT videos are so short. But at least give us the option turn matching on and off!
Hey Villaman i have a probleem. I have a Apple TV 4K 2021 model and a denon h4700. When I put the setting Dolby atmos on my Apple TV I hear all the time sound skipping. Please help me thanks 🙏
@@Nandocupra I had that problem too audio skips and video skips often , if your ATV is under warranty you'll have to replace it... I replaced mine and no issues now.
Correction: DO NOT enable 4K HDR or 4K Dolby Vision! That will set all your content you watch in that specific preset. Meaning everything will be in HDR when some content do not support HDR. Therefore, it will result in an inaccurate picture quality of the source. You should enable the 4K SDR preset, because the Apple TV will automatically recognize the signal of an HDR10 or Dolby Vision content and will output those particular presets by itself. In addition, if you have a higher quality hdmi cable, you might see the option of chroma 4:4:4, which is suggested to be selected for the best quality picture. Along with enabling match dynamic range and frame rate, BOTH should be enabled as well when selecting 4K SDR.
Correct, if you use TIDAL and plays video and then changes songs, playlist (if HDR 4K is the setting) the whole screen will flash, flicker and try to correct the TV output... use HDR SDR and have match content and frame rate preset ON.
I find it better to set the Apple TV to 4K SDR 60. This will allow 4:4:4 chroma on SDR content. If you put match dynamic range on you will still get HDR and DV as it is supposed to be shown
Yeah, most AV experts I’ve come across tell you to use 4K SDR and match content as the best settings. Helps prevent the unattractive blowout of the menu colors.
I agree with this. Cause of you set it to 4K SDR your tv will know when to switch to HDR and match the content of whatever you are watching. Cause if you set it to 4K HDR then the Apple is doing all the upscaling and then it is like doubling down on HDR and making everything pop more then it should. Me personally I did not like the way it looked when I had Dolby vision selected.
Hey villaMan When I select 4k hdr on my Qn90a I noticed the color red is off. That is specially apparent when I open Netflix the Netflix logo is pinkish not red . That doesn’t happen when I switch it to SDR
Hi Tha… I really like your video very helpful. I have a question about my 4k Apple TV 2021 . I try to hook up it with my Marantz sr7009 but have no audio and video at all if I hook up with my 4k Samsung tv 2017 it is working fine , when I try to connect it with marantz receiver have result like I said above no audio and video. In the audio and video format I setup 4k SDR . My hdmi cable is fusion 4k and 8k quality high speed cable. So, do you have any idea about this symptom. I really need your help. I hope to get response from you soon. Thank You

Is there a way to disable tv speakers to the sound bar speaker

Great video! Could recommend the appropriate set up of cable connections for this case. If I have a TV with regular HDMI ports and 1x eARC HDMI port + a sound bar with regular HDMI and 1x eARC HDMI port how should I connect to get the best audio and video? Should it be: - from Apple TV to eARC HDMI port on TV and from TV HDMI to Sound bar HDMI. Or - from Apple TV to eARC HDMI port on sound bar and from HDMI port on sound bar to HDMI port on the TV. Pretty much I’m trying to figure out which device pair should use the eARC port. Thanks!
Great video! Im currently using Fubo TV through my Apple TV 4K and love it. When watching cable TV I have the settings on Apple TV set to 1080 SDR for best possible picture. I much prefer the 1080 SDR setting when watching cable content. When it’s set to 4K HDR the picture looks off. The problem is when I go to use Netflix, Disney +, or RUclips etc., I have to constantly go into settings on Apple TV and switch video back to 4KHDR for best picture. It’s annoying to have to constantly switch back and forth from watching cable then going to streaming 4K content. My question is..is there a way around this or is this just something I have to deal with? Thank you!
Using my sony A95L with latest apple 4k tv my dolby vision is still dark. Any suggestions for chroma or the match content range and frame or just range.. do I keep on rgb high or that ybc setting. Is there a notable quality difference between the Apple TV app that you get built in with Samsungs tvs, and Apple TV 4k? My tv still shows 4k films in HDR with the app, but I do wonder if I get much better quality by getting the Apple TV 4k.
Long time watcher and certified AV Holic of over 30+ years and really enjoy what all of you and a lot of the other AV heads that I totally respect and love to hear the different opinions and ideas, being from the UK we apologise for everything lol, so saying that can I just point out, The Apple TV switches to HDR or Dolby Vision automatically and without trying to come across as a jerk but the settings should be set at 4K SDR and obviously have matching frame rate and dynamic range set to on, otherwise no matter what app or screen you are on it’ll always be a forced HDR / DV signal, I’ve tested it on everything from the ‘App store’ and then checking the output info and that says HDR when in real world it isn’t and that goes for every app or show that isn’t in HDR, it shows HDR on the info, but switching to 4K SDR allows the TV to transmit HDR or DV as and when detected..I hope this makes sense and I hope you don’t take it as a dig or negative comment, just trying to help. Cheers Love, Purpose n Peace MCD
I just checked and updated the Apple 4K. They fixed the problem with Amazon not playing HDR content. But you should never select 4K HDR as the default. It will play everything in HDR bleaching out the picture when really playing SDR content. This is hard on the display. And will shorten the life of the TV. If you select 4K SDR and match content it will work properly and play HDR content when available.
Hey man firstly thank you for all that you do! The bug you talked about with HDR not being activated seems to also be happening on RUclips itself now despite having 4K SDR and math content and frame rate turned on for me. It worked just fine on your videos when I first hooked up the device last week but in the last couple days it stopped working. Do you know any update about a fix to this bug or any way to fix it?
Finally! I appreciate your video. The movies were not watchable because of darkness and then I followed your video completely and I can see the screen now! Thank you!
I have an Apple TV 4K and a Dolby Atmos soundbar. I don’t see Dolby Atmos under the default audio output. Is this because I don’t have Earc or my older Samsung Tv doesn’t support Dolby Atmos?
what do you miss out on if you hook apple 4k tv to a hdmi 2.0 and not 2.1…i use my xbox s and dolby atmos sound bar on the 2 hdmi2.1 …the other 2 are 2.0
You should’ve set it to 4K sdr. Regardless of what your tv is capable of. Then the Match range and content will match the format and frame rate no matter what. The SDR setting is what the menu and apps should be displayed in and the Apple TV won’t force an artificial HDR or Dolby vision color making it look horrible and blown out.
Yes but to watch hdr content on RUclips you need to enable hdr at 60hz and to me its a flaw ! Because if you leave it in sdr it will never switch to hdr content on RUclips
@@zunix01 I’m not willing to sacrifice legit source material watching for RUclips where every other tenth video is 4K and mostly not HDR. That’s a RUclips glitch btw that they will eventually iron out.

I’m a bit confused about 1 thing this new Apple TV has to offer. I have the new Apple TV settings in 4K SDR with frame and video match. When I watch you tube videos that are supposed to be on hdr I only get sdr picture. Do I need to set Apple TV to output in 4K hdr in order to watch the you tube videos in hdr I assume it automatically does 60fps since that’s what it’s outputting. Also one more thing does your Apple TV show movie info as HD even though its in Dolby vision my tv will switch to correct Dolby vision picture but it will still say In drop down window that It’s HD is that a bug it was like that in 14.5 and also in 14.6
RUclips will send out 4k/HDR/60 but the switching mechanism is broken. So your TV won't switch to HDR, you can get around this by forcing HDR on in apple tv and then watching HDR youtube video's, but it's a pain in the ass, as you don't really want to leave HDR on all the time.
Hi I connected the Apple TV to my LG C9 I’m getting Dolby atmos DD+ but when I play Netflix in SDR I’m not getting DD+ I wonder why, do you think I should connect to my AV Marantz processor ?
Brother, I bought the same device in 4k sdr mode and even though the content matches are open, when RUclips hdr video is open, the system does not pass hdr, so the hdr active symbol does not appear on the TV, normally in this setting, sdr broadcasts sdr hdr broadcasts are watched as hdr. this time it shows the sdr broadcasts as pale and matte. I'm not sure if this is a software problem. I couldn't solve it.
I just changed it from 4K SDR @ 60Fps 4:4:4 to 4K HDR @ 60fps 4:2:2 and I confirm that the shadow detail, colours and overall picture quality especially smoothness in motion has improved without the soap opera effect. Thank you @Villaman, but is it same for every one . I can experience this in every content I watch now, Netflix, Disney+ or RUclips, I can youtube HDR content is has whole new level of improvement. Be it Dolby Vision or SDR content. I like 4K HDR setting more now. The TV I use is X90J with certified HDMI 2.1 cable
So I have the latest Apple TV and Chroma IS NOT THERE! It’s not on the menu at all. Is this because I have DolbyVision? Also, I’m confused about ATMOS. I have an excellent A/V receiver. I have a 7.1 system. 2 front, 2 side, 2 rear, center and sub. However, I DO NOT have speakers in the ceiling (I would if I could haha). I thought ATMOS was ONLY good if you had overhead speakers. I do think setting my Apple TV “audio format” to off (which automatically sets the audio to ATMOS) sound better than “on” which sends a 5.1 signal. But I thought ATMOS means ceiling speakers. If you get this please let me know. Thanks for the video. My system is: Sony 82” OLED, Denon X4700, 2 Definitive center speakers (piggy backed) Martin Logan Motion 60i front, Mirage OS3 sides, Definitive 6-Way rears and Velodyne 12BG sub. I used to have all Martin Logan electrostatic panel speakers but the panel (stators) go bad and it’s over 1000 dollar every 5-7 years for a pair…and I had 3 pairs! Got tired of paying that. I have a small but punchy system. Thanks man.
Very helpful video - thank you. I'm curious why my Apple TV 4k 2021 has different video settings to yours (it only has three options under "Video", rather than the five options you have - see 2:31). In particular, it doesn't have the "Match Content" option, which is rather disappointing. I do have a (much) older TV - would that explain it? If I had a 4k TV, would those options appear on Apple TV Settings?
I use my ATV 4k (older model) to playback home videos that I create in Final Cut Pro. When I have the ATV set to 4K HDR and also have the the match dynamic range enabled if I play a video that was edited in a HDR library it plays back great and looks amazing. The problem becomes if I'm playing older videos that aren't HDR when I play back it looks jerky or un smooth almost like the frame rate is off. It's not off because I also have it set to match frame rate. So now I have to go back into settings and just use 4k SDR and the older videos play back fine, but just don't look as good.
I was hoping to find here a setting I can't find anywhere. If I am watching an episodic movie, each begins with Skip Intro. HOW DO YOU ENABLE SKIP INTRO? I can't find it anywhere. I was hoping you would have it here as yours is the best video of this type. I hope you read this. Please and Thank You.
Well, I find the Skip Intro button on the lower right side of the screen shows up on most episodic movies or TV shows. I hate re-watching parts of the last episode. I'm sure it's there for a reason. Just wanting to activate it. Thought it might be somewhere in Settings. Thanks for your answer; but I still want to know how to activate the button; when it's available. Thank you for your quick reply.
Hi! Please clarify the following problem. I have a sony 4k 2021 tv with android tv and all the streaming applications...netflix, hbo max, etc. The TV is able to play dolby vision, hdr10, airplay2, has an earc output, etc I have an iPhone, I use Apple Music and iCloud. My question is: Does it bring me something extra if I add this apple tv 4k product to my ecosystem. Will the quality of the video image on netflix/hbo max be better than that in the TV application? Is it worth spending $200, and if so, what does it offer me in addition? Thank you in advance!
.. i'm new to apple tv also and never saw the point of it but i got one finally because i needed a certain streaming service that was not on my tv (LG) .. benefits for me at least are convenience.. the sports streaming app i wanted (Fubo) is on it, it has Criterion which I watch a lot and I find the picture to be smoother, it used to stutter a bit on my mac output with hdmi. Lots of other streaming services like Arrow Video etc. Another advantage is you can easily connect more than 1 pair of apple or beats headphones via bluetooth meaning my partner and i can watch movies together when the kid goes to bed. So it's a bit more convenience and luxury than hunching over equipment and messing around with cables trying to get things set up. Wish I'd bought one from apples refurb store though.. the unit is completely a sealed box so may as well just get a refurb one from apple and save $40. One other thing.. 4k movies are quite reasonable to buy from apple, and for each you can set the sound to lower dynamic range which is quieter when it is late, all those little conveniences add up basically so it's made it a worthwhile purchase in our case :)
Apple is now beginning use 5.1 Dolby Audio on various albums. Set the CHANGE FORMAT to DD, then to quickly to STEREO, then back to DD to allow receiver to playback in 5.1Suround music instead of 2.0 stereo.
Good video, just one point best setting for video should be 4K SDR 60 and HDMI OUTPUT Set toRGB high with match range and frame rate on for both options. If you leave it on 4K HDR all the time it outputs the Apple TV Home Screen in hdr all the time which is Not ideal if your running a OLED. Thanks 🙏

That’s definitely an option, based on preference. I personally have never had an issue with the home Screen brightness. Either way, use the setting that fits you best
Has any one done an wireless internet speed test on the new Apple TV? With the new WIFI 6, I do not find the speed to be any faster. I have a 1 gig internet speed with a WIFI 6 Router and only getting 350 mbps speed. My cell phone (WiFi 6) gets 750 mbps speed in the same location. Is my new Apple TV defective?
If you have content and frame match on. It will show sdr in sdr and hdr in hdr no matter what setting you choose. So then it’s just a matter of which menu visual you prefer
Yes these settings will not enable the best settings possible. 4K sdr is what should be set so the menu looks best. And the lowest 4K setting shows without an artificial hdr or Dolby vision wash out. Match setting will make it go to the proper signal regardless.
Very nice informative video for people that didn't know the exact necessary setup! The new Apple TV will support 120Hz in the near future, only via 2.1 HDMI cable + devices. You should always select the TV resolution in SDR 60Hz as a base setting and HDMI-output to YCbCr (RBG Low and High are for monitor setups and not TV's in general). Then you should also be able to to select chroma 4:4:4, if the base resolution is set as 4K SDR 60Hz. The chroma will adapt to the nearest compatible format depending on the content you choose to play.
Could you mention why set it to 4k SDR 60Hz? A lot of folks recommend this, but the benefits I've seen vary quite a lot. From Vincent's video, he seems to indicate that it's so it is not so bright in the ATV home screen. But others point out that doing that, you won't get the screensavers in DolbyVision. It seems to me that if Match Content --Range and Frame Rate are on, then it shouldn't matter what format it's set on. Is there any other benefit other than the home screen in ATV?
@@tusch It's very simple 4K SDR 60Hz is good base to start with. 4K because it wil give the best resolution / crispness and SDR because it wil give you the correct colors (important) for the menu and will also strain the display WAY less than HDR does (Dolby Vision isn't even suited for the usage of the menu at all) and last but not least 60Hz cause the menu will be at it's smoothest while navigating your apps for content. (also for gaming if that is your thing) In the not so far past when you forced Dolby Vision on the Apple TV it's content like for example on RUclips will apply it to the videos which are not mastered in this format (or even in HDR for that matter). If the app and video support the higher format it will match the content and frame rate if they are trigger on in the settings. Hope this helps!
Hi VillaMan. I have a question. Does Match Frame Rate work with all applications or just Apple TV+ app? For example: Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+? I have Amazon Fire TV Cube and Auto Framerate only works on Prime contents. The contents of the rest of the application, Cube play at 60Hz :(
I have a apple 4k to switch out my hideous Nvidia tube with but I am too lazy to do it. I also have a 2nd Gen fire cube standing by. I love the cube this is my third, but it just has too many issues to be the primary streamer so it'll just a backup.
If you’re only seeing 4:2:2 Chroma, the device is only outputting 4K@60fps in HDR (TMDS as opposed to FRL) meaning the HDMI 2.1 is only running as a HDMI 2.0 (18Gbps).
It would have been a great review if you have connected it on your projector to see the picture quality difference… and to see if the color calibration works on UST too…
Keep the apple TV SDR 60hz all the time , no need to keep it in HDR if your not watching anything in HDR OR DOLBY VISION, when you do it’s will display accordingly.
Thank you for making the color balance setting more clear to me! This helps make the colors more vibrant when streaming vids from my 2021 Apple TV 4K to my 65” Samsung Q70A!!! Much appreciated 😎✌️

Thanks Villaman! I have one question: I moved from the old AppleTV 4K to the new one, and I have a feeling that the audio sounds better in the new one. Of course this might be complete Placebo...but I'm curious whether anyone else has noticed any Audio changes...
@@ThaVillaMan Great. I had considered trying to put something together myself with REW and the Umik1 but I am unsure how to do it in a reproducible way, so I will rather sell my old AppleTV off...🤷♂️
I have gone from the nvidia shield tv pro 2019 and the sound on the Apple TV 2021 is nowhere near as good because the shield passes it through and the decoding by the amp/sound bar is much better. The decoding in the Apple TV is trash then sending the pcm through. When I set the Apple TV to the old DD 5.1 it passes through and it sounds really cinematic with proper bass but you can definitely tell audio is lost due to compression. The decoding inside the Apple TV is not good. Didn’t realise it did this. Might have to return it
@@zahirmulla6715 Careful...before you make any judgement call on the AppleTV, you should make very certain that you have Volume Matched both Devices. The AppleTV is often about 6db softer when using PCM than other Devices are when playing DD+ Streams directly.
@@rolandrohde oh I’ve done the volume testing, the scale of sound is not the same. In theory it being decoded by Apple and sent through vs B&O decoding should be same and it’s not. My brother has the Sonos arc with rears and sub. He rocking the Apple TV 4K not the new one and I’ve given his my shield and he’s said big difference in audio. Every channel has better dynamic range. DD 5.1 is what he’s using now because it’s proper cinematic cos it’s being decoded by the sound bar. I’ve not used the numbers on volume to test, but how it sounds. Tested 1917 through all boxes and many other content. There is something wrong with the decoding inside the Apple TV and this pcm sending over is not giving the best audio quality. The pass through method allows for much better sound. I’m just being realistic rather than bashing Apple. I’ve bought the Apple TV to replace the shield but I can’t because it’s not as enjoyable to watch. But give it credit the picture is spot on. Plus the audio volume on the Apple is actually the same as the shield when checked
What’s really odd here is that chroma 4:4:4 is not provided with the Apple TV meme options. The new Apple 4K TV has an HDMI 2.1 port, which supports 4K HDR 12-bit color @ 120Hz. Chroma subsampling is no longer necessary due to the bandwidth offered by HDMI 2.1, so I’m a bit confused as to why this option isn’t offered. My XBOX Series X allows for me to select these settings, so why not the Apple 4K TV (2021 model)??
All commercial media is mastered in 4:2:0 anyways. 4:2:2 is acceptable to gain fps, especially at 4K resolution. You would only (maybe) notice 4:4:4 in the interface/UI
another thing to consider, is that many 4K TVs are chroma subsampled by default to achieve their advertised top-FPS (with whatever cpu the TV has on its internal electronics).
Your tips were on point. I just adjusted my Apple TV setting primarily with it. Especially the video output, chroma and colour calibration. Thanks, man!
Glad I watched this! I have all the right hardware for Dolby Vision (65" LG OLED) and Dolby Atmos but I couldn't figure out why I wasn't seeing Dolby Atmos scroll across my Samsung Dolby Atmos soundbar or seeing the option for it in the Apple TV audio settings. Well...unfortunately, I had my Apple TV HDMI first going through my Hue Sync Box then from the Hue Sync Box to my Samsung Dolby Atmos soundbar. So it appears the Hue Sync Box can't pass Dolby Atmos to my Dolby Atmos soundbar.

Do we select rgb high?
Thanks 👍
I find it better to set the Apple TV to 4K SDR 60. This will allow 4:4:4 chroma on SDR content. If you put match dynamic range on you will still get HDR and DV as it is supposed to be shown

Same here man, and I was wondering is 4:4:4 better than 4:2:0?
Thank You
Hey wonderful presentation, with simple instructions for old people. Your suggestions not only helped with my new Apple TV 4K, but allowed me to figure out why my Nvidia and Firestick 4K looked so awful on the Samsung, I had not realized how much influence the streaming device display settings had on my tv. Keep it up my friend.
In order to get the full 4K, does it have to be plugged into the HDMI 2.1 120hz? Or is it meant to go into the HDMI 2.1 60hz? Thanks!
Sir M buying Apple 4K tv which Monitor would a great combination with that?
Is there a way to disable tv speakers to the sound bar speaker
Great video!
Could recommend the appropriate set up of cable connections for this case.
If I have a TV with regular HDMI ports and 1x eARC HDMI port + a sound bar with regular HDMI and 1x eARC HDMI port how should I connect to get the best audio and video?
Should it be:
- from Apple TV to eARC HDMI port on TV and from TV HDMI to Sound bar HDMI.
Or
- from Apple TV to eARC HDMI port on sound bar and from HDMI port on sound bar to HDMI port on the TV.
Pretty much I’m trying to figure out which device pair should use the eARC port.
Thanks!
You did a great review here! You took you time, we’re through. And the video quality was fantastic!
To either one that has an available port. It’s not a big deal either way
Should you connect the ATV to the soundbar or the TV?
Does it go sleep mode or something if not in use.
Is there a notable quality difference between the Apple TV app that you get built in with Samsungs tvs, and Apple TV 4k? My tv still shows 4k films in HDR with the app, but I do wonder if I get much better quality by getting the Apple TV 4k.
Hi, currently chroma 4.2.2 so should i use 4k DV or 4k HDR? My tv is LG C7 oled
Cheers

I have a hdmi 8k 2.1 cable but can’t select chroma 2.4.4 can u help?
Thanks for the great video!😊👍🏽
I just checked and updated the Apple 4K. They fixed the problem with Amazon not playing HDR content. But you should never select 4K HDR as the default. It will play everything in HDR bleaching out the picture when really playing SDR content. This is hard on the display. And will shorten the life of the TV. If you select 4K SDR and match content it will work properly and play HDR content when available.
are you aware you just saved my life ??? thank you !!!! the image was bleached and i did not know what to do
Hey man firstly thank you for all that you do!
Thank you!
It’s supports all hdmi 2.1 features. 2.1 is not enabled yet.

I find the best thing about Apple TV box... one is able to increase and decrease volume extremely discretely,! Perfect for us home theatre enthusiasts
What hdmi cable do you use?
Does the earc function make it sound better and less compressed then the previous model. That’s what I’m worried about
Are these on applicable with the newer Apple TV device, or can you use for 2020 model?
what do you miss out on if you hook apple 4k tv to a hdmi 2.0 and not 2.1…i use my xbox s and dolby atmos sound bar on the 2 hdmi2.1 …the other 2 are 2.0
I am doing something similar with my series x. I have a nano85. But when I go to my apple tv video format, the highest it goes is 1080p hdr,60 hz

Hey. I have a view Sonic monitor with the Apple TV 4K. I can't control the volume up or down. and no pause either. It just comes out at an average level. We have fans blowing and other noises and I need to turn up the volume and CAN'T. or down cause some commercials will blast you out the front door. ;) Ive tried the settings to no avail. Could it be the monitor screwing up the volume control? I have an iPad mini, but have somewhat of the same problem there too. Its on auto. I seen the volume go up all by itself on the pull down deal on the iPad mini. I was staring at it and up it went by itself...what?! Thanks for you videos!

I have an Apple HD TV with the NEW 2021 Remote. I can not find a way to completely have the remote turn off my Samsung Series 7 TV. Match content and match frame throws off sound sync for me, so the lips don't match the sound. I am running through a projector and receiver though.
Hey mate, my AVR supports HDR but projector doesn't. So I've set mine to 4K SDR. I'm not able to see the chroma option. I have another option called "HDMI output". It has YCbCr, RGB High, RGB Low. Any idea which one is best?
yeah I’m on a 1080p epson projector.. I see the same and had the same question: YVbCr, RGB high, or RGB low. Wish I could resolve the question myself
Also one more thing does your Apple TV show movie info as HD even though its in Dolby vision my tv will switch to correct Dolby vision picture but it will still say In drop down window that It’s HD is that a bug it was like that in 14.5 and also in 14.6
The Apple TV 4K will automatically detect a 4K HDR signal.
@@carlcameron3524 ya it detects hdr signal from Disney plus, Netflix, iTunes, HBO max but it won’t detect RUclips I just get 4K sdr in RUclips
Yes I also noticed the drop down window will say HD but my Tv shows it’s Dolby Vision when it starts to play.
Thanks for all these tips. It has made our Apple Tv experience much better and we choose to make it our primary tv box. Thanks again.

I have an Nvidia Shield and I'm thinking about switching over to apple. Is it OK that I don't own any apple products?
Brother, I bought the same device in 4k sdr mode and even though the content matches are open, when RUclips hdr video is open, the system does not pass hdr, so the hdr active symbol does not appear on the TV, normally in this setting, sdr broadcasts sdr hdr broadcasts are watched as hdr. this time it shows the sdr broadcasts as pale and matte. I'm not sure if this is a software problem. I couldn't solve it.
I connect my Apple TV 4K to an Arcane HD Fury but Immersive Audio is not an option on my Apple TV. Any clues?
If I had a 4k TV, would those options appear on Apple TV Settings?
yes you are correct
Nice set up. Ever going to add any kind of home theater audio?
Heh, funny you should ask that ruclips.net/video/OSofz0TIOu8/видео.html
I use my ATV 4k (older model) to playback home videos that I create in Final Cut Pro. When I have the ATV set to 4K HDR and also have the the match dynamic range enabled if I play a video that was edited in a HDR library it plays back great and looks amazing. The problem becomes if I'm playing older videos that aren't HDR when I play back it looks jerky or un smooth almost like the frame rate is off. It's not off because I also have it set to match frame rate. So now I have to go back into settings and just use 4k SDR and the older videos play back fine, but just don't look as good.
When I use chroma 4.2.2 Apple TV I loose picture source when I change feed why? If on 4.@ 0 it doesn’t drop video feed on source change
Is there Hi-Res Lossless ALAC 24bit/192kHz audio options ???
There’s at least Apple Lossless that goes up to that
Normally they suggest setting it up for 4K SDR. That way you can have 4:4:4 chroma.
Yes that is what you do, 4K SDR is the right setting and match content plus MDR and you have the best setting, do not force HDR for the Apple 4K
That is only for the menu, the content will always play in it’s original format. If the content is 4k SDR then you get 4:4:4 chroma
How can I install tivimate
I was hoping to find here a setting I can't find anywhere. If I am watching an episodic movie, each begins with Skip Intro. HOW DO YOU ENABLE SKIP INTRO? I can't find it anywhere. I was hoping you would have it here as yours is the best video of this type. I hope you read this. Please and Thank You.
The skip intro option is app and program specific. Only select shows in certain apps have it, so there’s nothing you can do about it
Well, I find the Skip Intro button on the lower right side of the screen shows up on most episodic movies or TV shows. I hate re-watching parts of the last episode. I'm sure it's there for a reason. Just wanting to activate it. Thought it might be somewhere in Settings. Thanks for your answer; but I still want to know how to activate the button; when it's available. Can i connect my 2 Sony Bluetooth Sony WH-1000XM4 ? plz help
If not using it go into sleep mode or something?
Apple is now beginning use 5.1 Dolby Audio on various albums. Set the CHANGE FORMAT to DD, then to quickly to STEREO, then back to DD to allow receiver to playback in 5.1Suround music instead of 2.0 stereo.
Good video, just one point best setting for video should be 4K SDR 60 and HDMI OUTPUT Set toRGB high with match range and frame rate on for both options. If you leave it on 4K HDR all the time it outputs the Apple TV Home Screen in hdr all the time which is Not ideal if your running a OLED.
Thanks 🙏

Don’t they say you should have the Apple TV set 4K SDR
That’s what I’ve done based on Vincent over @HDTVtest this makes it so the menu on the Home Screen isn’t so bright I need to wear sun glasses
That’s right, that’s how I have mine for my projector.
That’s exactly what I was going to tell him
Could you mention why set it to 4k SDR 60Hz?
(also for gaming if that is your thing)
In the not so far past when you forced Dolby Vision on the Apple TV it's content like for example on RUclips will apply it to the videos which are not mastered in this format (or even in HDR for that matter). If the app and video support the higher format it will match the content and frame rate if they are trigger on in the settings.
Hope this helps!
Thank you for this comment, idk why he didn’t go over this.

@@Eric_In_SF Well with forced HDR your 1080p movies won’t look the same as well as your tv shows they’ll be out of color

If you’re only seeing 4:2:2 Chroma, the device is only outputting 4K@60fps in HDR (TMDS as opposed to FRL) meaning the HDMI 2.1 is only running as a HDMI 2.0 (18Gbps).
there is hardly any media that is anything other than 4:2:0
It would have been a great review if you have connected it on your projector to see the picture quality difference… and to see if the color calibration works on UST too…
Keep the apple TV SDR 60hz all the time , no need to keep it in HDR if your not watching anything in HDR OR DOLBY VISION, when you do it’s will display accordingly.

Great.
Might have to return it
@@zahirmulla6715
Careful...before you make any judgement call on the AppleTV, you should make very certain that you have Volume Matched both Devices.
This was extremely helpful. I followed your directions to the T.
Thank you man!!! Straight to the point and no bs. Great channel! Keep it up

It is when the display output is set to 4K SDR. Really weird
Because it doesn't appear to have functioning HDMI 2.1. At maximum, it never uses more bandwidth than is provided by a HDMI 2.0b 18.0Gbps port.
Thanks for this amazing video. I find your delivery style to be very easy to understand but at the same time quite complete. 😀
Thank you VillaMan and comments. I’m good to go 👍🏼
Glad I watched this!
Thank you! Really made a huge difference.
