Hi Chris, yes its pretty cool. We are sadly rather busy with other things youtube is time consuming but yes we have some good videos planned. An interview with the chap who discovered this, plus a step by step walk through. We think this is a big deal... thanks for your interest
Thank you much for this video. I was already contemplating on returning an 85 inch TV which was already mounted on the wall. After this, the difference in picture quality, color, and blacks are just enormous. I am completely happy with my TV and my setup. You guys are great.
Great, learned something new today:) I have a question about the latest Apple TV 4K 2022. I can choose between 4K HDR HDR10+, or 4K SDR. Will I also here the apple tv auto change to HDR10+ when i play content supporting it if i choose 4K SDR in the menu (+ the other settings in the video)?
Hey, I just want to say thank you for this, part 1 & 2. I’m not into my picture quality or audio to create that theatrical experience but I love to know what my tech can do and the limitations and this really helped me. The one that caught me out was the resetting of the device after a software update, didn’t realise it had done that so just refereed back to your video. Thank you again from the UK
A follow-up/update on this would be great. There’s a new setting on appletv since this video to match original content so I’m wondering if it makes sense now to set the output setting to Dolby vision and then also match content?
We have the latest atv with os16.1 and we have just tested it and the settings are the same as the video with the same outcomes.. and in any case no if you want your sdr displayed properly on and hdr/dv capable display You still need the settings this way.
Can you make a video on how to connect a Dolby Atmos soundbar to the Apple TV 4K and what settings you should use for the audio portion under the video and audio tab?
Hi you've been posting some great content which i keep watching , I’ve got the marantz AV- 7706 Processor i want to hook-up the new apple tv 4k to my processor, want to know if I'll be able to stream 4k dolby atmos content from Netflix, Prime , Disney etc. to my processor which is hooked up to my LG G3-77 inch TV.
Thank you. I had the apple 4k tv for about 6 months now and just assumed Dolby Vision was the one to use as that is suppose to be the best. But it did make the menu screen look very bright, which is unnecessary. I have OLED TV's and don't want to use the extra brightness. The Apple TV really seems like it wants you to use Dolby Vision all the time. I just changed it to 4k SDR and it is better and you still get Dolby Vision when the source is DV. Apple should know this and tell people how to set these up correctly like you guys have stated. I would bet that 95% of people have Dolby Vision set for everything like I did. I guess using DV all the time make SDR look like DV with upscaling and maxing out the contrast and brightness.
What I’ve read the only work around for atmos on an arc is that device he mentioned in the video that converts the signal into atmos surround the “had fury device”. I found on google listed at $250 plus
So I tried the 4K HDR....too weird a screen picture....settled on 4K SDR.... works great. TV allowed those settings. ....got the frame and range turned on.....can’t do 444 on the Chroma....the 4.2 setting is what I’m allowed.....TV is 5yrs old.....Apple TV 4K is newer....thanks for the tips.....
We thought about it but that has been relevant across ever tvOS so far on the appletv4k so mentioning any specific tvOS would make people think it’s not relevant to current, which were at the time future, releases .
Thank you so much for this video! I was getting so confused previously. The only other RUclipsr that suggested what you did was “HDTVtest” but he didn’t explain things as well as you did. Thanks again!
This is a great video. I would advise caution on the frame rate option though. Some displays that are native 60hz (or 59.97) cannot display 24p content properly and end up doing some whacked out interpolation to make it fit. I'd advise turning frame match off to get a more proper frame rate/motion. Most modern projectors don't tend to have this issue but I have seen some also have trouble with true 24p content.
Audio sync Can you show some fixes for that? Audio out of sync in some apps Running apple tv to onkyo reciever then out to tv. Both reciever and tv support all formats. U rock! Thanks
We would love to but we are not experiencing this.. to be able to do this we would need to buy the same avr and TV as yours and this channel only earns about $98 per month :-) If however we do find this problem we will troubleshoot it..
@@morrison22 we don’t seem to be having issues with this? Will check it out but then again we generally watch movies so RUclips is not a predominant source of content in our cinema rooms. Good to get this feedback thank you.
@@HomeTheatreEngineering Yes, it only appears to be an issue with the RUclips app on AppleTV. It has never played HDR content in HDR. Would love your feedback on this when you test it out.
Thanks for clearing up the HDR issue. I was hesitant to use hdr since it does sharpen the colors but seems to also shed a grey tone to the picture. Now with the switch I get the best of both worlds. Thank you!
Thank you!!! I have been struggling with this for a awhile. Dolby Vision would not work on its setting with my Sony, Onkyo receiver. You cleared it all up. Onkyo, Sony and Apple had no clue! Thank you so much
Hi just got a Sonos arc and sub 3 and Apple TV 4K when I Watch a movie that is in from Apple+ and Atmos i’m not getting it do I need to change any settings on the Apple TV? I spoke to Samsung support they said my TV is compatible for pass through i’m connected to the a Arc so what am I doing wrong any suggestions does Atmos just work I would see in the S2 app any help would be greatly appreciated love the videos
Asked the Dolby Vision question in Part 1 Video and just answered here. So while watching your video I took my Apple TV off of the Dolby Vision 4K 60Hz and used your settings, Loaded Disney + and the first thing I noticed was how the menu colors just pop now. Just watched the Mandalorian last night and knew it was DV so watched part of it again today and actually noticed a better picture. I just bought the LG 75NANO99 and am impressed with upscaling to 8k. Thanks to your settings will enjoy my Apple TV more.
Question, since I am not going to use Dolby Vision setting on my Apple TV, should I use my iPhone to calibrate my display???? Am never going to get a professional calibration.
To be honest we have never used the iphone calibration. We should test that and compare to an actual calibration sometime. So I can't really answer that. I guess the best thing to do is try and look at the results...
Just wanted to thank you for this video. I've had my AppleTv for close to a year and was extremely satisfied with the visual quality. I thought setting it to DV was obvious because I specifically I bought a tv and AppleTv for DV. After changing the settings, I squeezed more juice out of a tv I already loved.
I am using sony 4k projector with apple4k tv although i set it up to your setting an it looked great and after running my projector for a hr i got a flickering green screen no video. It happens multiple times but after using amazon firestick there was no problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated. pple tv does appear to have better picture then the firestick
I came across your video. Thanks for this!!!! I have a question regard my setup. I have a Sony str dh590 receiver. Should I connect my Apple TV 4K by using the pass through or connect the Apple TV directly to my Sony 4K TV then use optical cable for sound from tv to receiver? I am also using a high speed hdmi cable from ATV to receiver to TV. I saw little difference with settings that you recommended. I just want to make sure I maximize the 4K Dolby vision
We have. Check out "Dolby Vision on everything" video. This explains that we can use the HDFury Diva to access LLDV on any display. There is more to come on this..
In the 2021 ATV 4K setting, it doesnt have the "Enable Dolby Vision" field. It just has the format and the rest of the stuff. Now when I set-up per above, and then when I select content on Netflix/Itunes for 4K Dolby Vision content, it is recognizing it likewise. My TV settings capture it as DV and has the color callibrations changed automatically. Now looks like there is an issue with HDR content on Amazon Prime, on ATV4K. It doesn't stream in HDR but 4K SDR. I have raised it in Apple forum and there's no resolution in sight.
Hi can you create a video about playing Dolby Vision content on a device that does not support it? In my case, I am looking to play DV on Samsung TV is this possible? Thanks in advance
Thanks for detailed video, I’ll try these settings have been facing problem with Sony A8F, some dark scenes looks very ugly, I see patchy greens and image doesn’t look clear. Hopefully this will resolve the issue.
Thats a really good question. This may sound simplistic but if it is working then NO. If you are having issues then yes. In terms of quality though many would disagree the answer is no. No need to spend stupid amounts on an HDMI cable AS LONG AS IT IS DELIVERING ALL OF THE NEEDED REQUIREMENTS. In otherwords as long as you are getting the resolution frame rate colour space bit depth and feature you want then all is well.
My tv supports hdr, but the picture is dull with washed out colours whenever Itry to play hdr content. I don't have apple tv 4k. I want to know if my tv performance will improve with Apple tv 4k with "Format" set at akSDR and "Match Content" set to OFF. Thanks
Thanks guys, those setting you showed fixed a cross talk issue I had. The disney plus app, Dolby Atmos had so much static, and my sound bar was going ape shit. I put the video setting like you displayed, no static issues. Thanks.
Great tutorial guys! Quick question about HDR10 bit rate. I have apple tv connected to Onkyo receiver, which is contacted to Benq projector ht3550. When I force HDR 60hz on apple tv (match content/rate Off), and play HDR movie on disney+ for example, I see my onkyo statistics showing 4.2.0 30 bits 59hz. However, if I turn the match On in apple tv. The onkyo states showes 4.2.2 24 bits 23.9 hz. In both use cases my benq projector shows BT2020 color space. I am confused why I get 24 bits when I turn Match On and play HDR 10 content? Thank you
HD Fury Diva in this case. The HD Fury Vertex 2 does the same. Main advantage is allowing lldv Dolby Vision on displays without DV. Including peojectors
My Apple TV 4K doesn't have that 'Enable Dolby Vision' setting under Video and Audio. Would it only show up if I have a Dolby Vision TV attached to it, which I don't, but plan to soon...or should it be there anyway?
This solved issues I was getting with blank screens in RUclips each time it switched between ads and content when the appletv was set to DV. It would flash the DV label and then show said ad or content.
Hi HTE, That was very informative, thanks. I have a q? that is driving me mad with my new Apple TV+. When it's directly connected to my LG SN8YG soundbar (connected to TV via HDMI arc), I get Dolby Atmos. When playing non Atmos movies soundbar says PCM. If I connect Apple TV+ direct to TV via HDMI (hd compable port), When playing non Atmos movies soundbar says Dolby Sound, and does sound better. Why?
The apple TV will output the signal aspect ratio It is sent it’s the display that you need to manage the aspect ratio with. Some people zoom the image of a Scope movie on their TVs some use lenses and or video processors with their projectors. The black bars never “go away” they need to be managed

While inbuilt installed app like netflix and disney giving dolby vision with 10 bit video.... Here we can see difference between 8 bit and 10 bit dolby vision on my tv. Kinldy suggest...
I have a Samsung neo qled. [qn85d 85’’]. I find the picture quality best when I put it in 4K HDR10+ with match content and frame rate on. and chroma in 4:2:2. I find it the best on my tv cause Samsung doesn’t support Dolby vision yet, I have to put it in 4K HDR10+. I guess the settings differ from TV to TV. For ex:- UHD TVs are best when set to 4K SDR. All in all really pleased with my Apple TV 4K purchase. It’s a beast!!
This works perfectly to me overall, but no with Plex app running DV 4K content. It gets a purple and green tint. Someone knows how to correctly setup Plex app and Apple TV to run dolby vision videos?
sounds like a signal issue like your ATV is sending RGB and your TV is not working with that or some similar issue. There are a lot of settings going on here between plex and appletv and your display so its probably a bit outside of a quick youtube reply.
Thanks a lot for your videos! I’ve noticed that the sound is « sliding » from its calibration quite rapidly after setting the Apple TV 4K to play the sound on my amplifier Bluetooth connection. Any idea on how to solve that?
I’m sorry I don’t understand. What do you mean by “sliding” and what “calibration” are you referring to? This video covers the video settings and does not deal with the audio settings.
@@HomeTheatreEngineering I can sync the Bluetooth audio so that lips and sound are at the same speed but progressively, the sound and the image go out of synchronization and I have a sizable delay in the image versus the sound (or vice-versa it depends how we look at things).
@@yanna.9145 We never use Bluetooth for audio for a bunch of reasons. Issues like this being one. I doubt the problem is the appletv but can you not use a cabled connection?
@@HomeTheatreEngineering normally use the optical cable connexion from my TV to my amplifier but this forces me to use a second remote as my amplifier is inside a cabinet and the Apple TV remote can’t control it
But what about when you're watching regular cable tv and you're channel surfing, won't these settings drive you nuts waiting for the handshake to finish on each and every channel you go through basically? Think (RUclipsTV) on AppleTV.
Hi thanks for commenting. Ok so no we are not using LLDV for several reasons. 1) We are using a MadVR for tone mapping. 2) despite popular consensus Dolby Vision is not as great as is thought. It’s perceptual quantiser is a bit of a mess and in some ways HDR10/HDR10+ can be better..that’s a much deeper topic. Hope this helps.
Thank you for clarifying the 4K SDR setting for me. My TV is a Samsung 8K (Q900R) and I have never been quite sure how to setup the video settings. I am so glad you clarified that the Apple TV auto switches back and forth and why the TV flashes for a few seconds (handshaking). When will you be doing the best settings for the Apple TV 2021?
Thanks - yes always use these settings. Just about to move house and have a new projector which is 4K and HDR. Interested to see how you got your projector to output Dolby Vision - I know projectors aren't bright enough to really do it. Also interested to know if it was an improvement on a projector over HDR.
Ah we were waiting for that question. Projectors don't do HDR (there are 1 or 2 but mostly no). So we achieved this with an HDFury DIVA that uses the Dolby Vision LLDV metadata and fools the source into thinking the Projector can do DV. It does take some setting up and we will definitely be doing a great video on this. The HDFury also allows us to display the metadata so we can absolutely prove what is happening. Finally projectors can produce amazing HDR but they need to be calibrated properly. Yes the light output is limited but there are EOTF or Gamma curves that work with the range of the projector and produce incredible results with decent projectors.
I have the HD Fury Vertex 2 and use the ll DV method described for Dolby Vision. The Apple TV is doing the tone mapping using Dolbys algorithms and send it out as scene adjusted HDR10. So done in the player rather than display. In my view Dolbys method gives much better results than what ever Apple was doing to convert DV to HDR10 and what my projector was then doing to tone map that it is capabilities. The HD fury allows you to enter in custom edid data to customize what it tells the DV decoder your display is capable of. Peak and avg luminance and the xy coordinate of the colour gamut if you know them from calibration. So it allows you to tweak brightness etc to your likings with its tone mapping. It made a massive difference for Apple TV DV content for me. DV often looked worse than SD. Dark and dull. The HD Fury is not cheap but was worth it for me. It has some other useful features like masking, custom triggering rs232 command to the projector to change picture settings based on input content etc. (Eg. If SD then change brightness from 0 to -2 etc).
When using the settings outlined in the video I'm getting a pulsing/flickering on dark nearly black scenes on a new Sony AJ08 OLED. When i turn off the Match Content settings it appears to eliminate the issue. Appears this may be an Apple TV 4K issue. Since turning off Match Content will no longer negotiate the format how would you suggest setting format? Have you seen this issue and have any other suggestions for settings?
Thanks so much. I have one question. When I go to the video settings of my AppleTV 4K I don’t see anything that says enable Dolby Vision. I only see the enable hdr which seems to work fine. Any thoughts on this? Thanks again.
It is difficult to say without knowing more but I would suspect that maybe your tv or projector doesn't support Dolby vision? You could also try resetting your appletvs resolution (check appletv instructions) or power cycle it but other than that more info would be needed.
@@HomeTheatreEngineering My TV does support Dolby Vision but my 2016 Onkyo receiver does not. So, I need to upgrade the receiver which I'm willing to do. Do you feel that Dolby Vision makes a difference? Just want your opinion. Thanks
@@PixelGuy22there may be a setting in your Receiver that you need to change. When I first connected my Apple TV 4K to my Receiver it gave me an error message that it could not do 4K HDR. Only 4K SDR. I had to go into it's Advanced Setup function to access this and switch between the 2 modes. Now my Sony TV get 4K HDR. There is a REDDIT thread talking about something similar, and how to access the menu to change that. www.reddit.com/r/hometheater/comments/cspc53/psa_4k_60hz_hdr_onkyo_receiver_passthrough/ This info should be somewhere in the manual too. I found it in mine, but I didn't notice this obscure setting when I first set it up. Or try contacting the tech support to see if there is a way to change that to get Dolby Vision pass-thru your receiver to see on your TV.
@@_Volt_Ron_ Thanks. I contacted Onkyo and they verified no Dolby Vision on my model. Since moved on to a Yamaha receiver and all is well with Dolby Vision.
Hi its not a massive deal. Its more related to the country you are in so USA would normally be 60Hz and UK Australia 50Hz. Bear in mind this is only relevant in SDR and not HDR anyway as the match range and rate then kick in.
Andrew, Sorry for asking this on this older vid. I am considering buying an Apple TV 4K box to upgrade from my Roku Ultra. I hope it will be an upgrade. I'm asking because my TV is an older Sharp Aquos 70" that is wonderful, but only 1080P. Do you think I will be happy with my purchase of the Apple TV box? And, any settings advice would appreciated greatly. Thank you and all the very best, Kevin
Its hard to say but yes I think if you like the apple ecosystem it should be fine and for a 1080P tv the settings out of the box should be just fine until you switch to an HDR display.
@@HomeTheatreEngineering Andrew, thanks! Just dipping my toes in the Apple realm. It's likely a bad idea, but I hear it may be the best streamer at this time.
A bit late to the show but thanks for a great video. Very clear and understandable. I did have one issue after using your settings. After turning everything on as specified, I began getting some pretty serious lip sync issues between my 2017 Apple TV4K, my Denon S760H AVR (new Costco model) and my Sony A80J. It was happening on all sources….Amazon, Disney, Apple TV+ and Netflix. I have the Apple TV plugged into the Denon (with my other sources) and then run them all to the TV through HDMI 3 (eARC). I tried the lip sync adjustments on the Denon. Nothing worked. After a few hours, I finally saw a suggestion to turn OFF frame rate matching in the ATV4K settings. Lo and behold, that cured all my lip sync issues on every service thru the ATV. So I will leave it off for now. But any ideas why the lip sync would be an issue with frame rate matching turned on? And by leaving it off, what am I losing, if anything? And would the 2021 model solve this issue? Again thanks for a great video and site. I am a new subscriber.
Good video. Although it makes the menus look oversaturated I personally prefer to set to Dolby Vision 4k 24Hz to reduce the amount of handshaking black screens when playing content. Match content is on.
If the menus are looking oversaturated something is not right. They should look "correct" . Yes by forcing an hdr range you do eliminate or reduce handshake but then you are not watching content in its correct format as we have demonstrated. It is of course personal preference but we prefer a short handshake and then watch a 2hr movie in its correct and well calibrated format..Everything then looks amazing! If the first time you do this the menus do look strong its sometimes simply because by comparison we have been seeing them washed out for so long. Also it is heavily dependent on uour display being properly setup. For example if it is not calibrated or if a TV has been left of "Vivid or dynamic" it could well look awful!
@@HomeTheatreEngineering it seems you misunderstood what I meant. As I said I have match content on. Dynamic range and frame rate. It switches to SDR, HDR or DV as per the content. It is only the menu that looks a bit over saturated. My point was I am ok for the menus (not content) to look slightly wrong so I dont get the 5 to 10 sec handshake black screen. I set the default to 24Hz as most content I watch is 24Hz.
Mark B I’m with you Mark. I think Home Engineering need to explain this a bit better as I don’t feel they explain their reason to set to SDR. It only forces the menu to look that way. All content will change to its intended content if match content frame rate etc is turned on. This is what it does to my knowledge. Open to being shown differently.
@@AceVPD Hi Guys. So rather extensive testing has shown us these settings deliver accurate outputs for all content that is properly encoded. But the price you pay on a projector is handshake. Yes other combinations can give you results that reduce handshake or force 24Hz but we are addressing the average user who wants to set and forget and know its right. If you are using hdfury you are no way average users so not really the target audience. Re menus, my comment there was in reference to concern that you said they looked oversaturated which they never should. With HDR forced for example they should look washed out wth SDR selected they should look just right. My comment then being that something else does not seem correct. We have checked these settings with our calibration tools and the results are correct. But then apple does change things like they change socks so this could all be invalid tomorrow :-)
Came here from Reddit to understand the "black screen" issue with ATV 4k. Makes absolute perfect sense to me now the way you explained everything. I understand that the ATV needs to switch to the new format and adapt to the new settings (handshake) but this is super annoying! Will there ever be a way for Apple to do this quicker so we aren't sitting through these black pauses? Thanks for awesome the video!
It’s not AppleTV as such. It sends the information to the display and the display needs to adjust then when it’s ready it will show an image. Same would/should happen going from an SDR disc to an HDR disc in an optical drive
@@HomeTheatreEngineering Hmmm. Interesting. Is support for HDMI 2.1 just a software thing? Meaning, companies can choose to offer/support it or force you to upgrade (like a Samsung Tv for instance)? The weird thing though about the ATV is it just started happening with the 14.5 update. I have the 2018 ATV 4k and never had this problem. Now it's constant. I even get the delay WITHIN the AppleTV menu when I switch Apps which doesn't seem right because nothing is trying to be "played" in a different format yet. I've got new HDMI cables coming tomorrow recommended by HDFury. Maybe that will help. Thank you for the response :) New sub to your channel :)
@@bluebayeux unfortunately no hdmi 2.1 is hardware based. Yes there is software involved but without 2.1 hardware you are SOL .. I can’t explain why you are only experiencing this now and I don’t know enough about your setup but I suspect one format was forced so you never saw the handshake but didn’t get optimised picture.. just my guess. Very informative. Choosing the right settings can be confusing, but you make it clear what is the way to go. Thanks.
in the format option, why do you not wanna enable 4K HDR rather than 4K SDR? there wasn't much elaboration in the video regarding this.
That is how I configured the apple on my samsung au7000 earc tv. dynamic on and frame rate off. Samsung display shows playing at 60
Audio sync
Can you show some fixes for that?
Audio out of sync in some apps
Running apple tv to onkyo reciever then out to tv.
Both reciever and tv support all formats.
U rock! Thanks
We would love to but we are not experiencing this.. to be able to do this we would need to buy the same avr and TV as yours and this channel only earns about $98 per month :-) If however we do find this problem we will troubleshoot it..
Thanks for the help! Confusing how Apple keeps telling us to enable DV!

Do these setting still stand today using an AppleTV 4k and LG CX on latest firmware?
Yes
@@HomeTheatreEngineering now if we can only figure out how to get RUclips on Apple TV to play HDR content like the RUclips app on my LG CX does. 🤔
Thank you!
Yes sir! Those settings definitely worked, thank you!
Thank you!!! I have been struggling with this for a awhile. Dolby Vision would not work on its setting with my Sony, Onkyo receiver. You cleared it all up. Onkyo, Sony and Apple had no clue! Thank you so much

Love the video man. But what if i got my apple tv wired straight to my receiver do i use the same settings like you showed
Yes absolutely
Asked the Dolby Vision question in Part 1 Video and just answered here. So while watching your video I took my Apple TV off of the Dolby Vision 4K 60Hz and used your settings, Loaded Disney + and the first thing I noticed was how the menu colors just pop now. Just watched the Mandalorian last night and knew it was DV so watched part of it again today and actually noticed a better picture. I just bought the LG 75NANO99 and am impressed with upscaling to 8k. Thanks to your settings will enjoy my Apple TV more.
Hi yes sorry we try but difficult to get to every question. Glad you got a good outcome
So the Match Content settings work in non-native apps like Disney+ ?
I just picked up a Sony x95j which has a few HDMI 2.1 ports. Is there an advantage to getting the gen 2 Apple TV?

Question, since I am not going to use Dolby Vision setting on my Apple TV, should I use my iPhone to calibrate my display???? Am never going to get a professional calibration.
To be honest we have never used the iphone calibration. We should test that and compare to an actual calibration sometime. So I can't really answer that. I guess the best thing to do is try and look at the results...
Great video! What do you suggest for the TV input settings for the input you have apple tv on?
Thank you, so for my JVC RS49 that doesn’t have the HDR is it better switch off the match content option ?
hi,can u do this for latest gen?
I came across your video. Thanks for this!!!! I have a question regard my setup. I have a Sony str dh590 receiver. Should I connect my Apple TV 4K by using the pass through or connect the Apple TV directly to my Sony 4K TV then use optical cable for sound from tv to receiver? I am also using a high speed hdmi cable from ATV to receiver to TV. I saw little difference with settings that you recommended. I just want to make sure I maximize the 4K Dolby vision
Are you guys going to explain how to get Dobly Vision on projectors....Please make a video explaining this process.
We have. Check out "Dolby Vision on everything" video. This explains that we can use the HDFury Diva to access LLDV on any display. There is more to come on this..
@@HomeTheatreEngineering Okay thanks so much & I look forward to that future video.
Just wanna say thank you for the information
Hi can you create a video about playing Dolby Vision content on a device that does not support it? In my case, I am looking to play DV on Samsung TV is this possible? Thanks in advance
Thanks for detailed video, I’ll try these settings have been facing problem with Sony A8F, some dark scenes looks very ugly, I see patchy greens and image doesn’t look clear. Hopefully this will resolve the issue.
Absolutely helpful. Thank god!!!
Hey, thanks for the videos, they were really useful.
I wonder, does the HDMI cable really have an impact on the video quality?
Thats a really good question. This may sound simplistic but if it is working then NO. If you are having issues then yes. In terms of quality though many would disagree the answer is no. No need to spend stupid amounts on an HDMI cable AS LONG AS IT IS DELIVERING ALL OF THE NEEDED REQUIREMENTS. In otherwords as long as you are getting the resolution frame rate colour space bit depth and feature you want then all is well.
@@HomeTheatreEngineering Thank you! keep up the great workl!

Thank you
Watched your last video on this and it was great.
Thank you agin for this update! 🍿🍿

Thanks a lot for the information. How will I see those details of the movie (HDR, DV etc ) on the screen?

I have a q? that is driving me mad with my new Apple TV+.
Why?
Fantastic video, great advice thank you! Quick question: Should I set the SDR to 50hz or 60hz?
Have a quick scroll through comments have answered that several times :-)
Hello, can you change the apple tv to a 2.4:1 aspect radio to delete the black bars from the sides?? or it is only 16:9????
The apple TV will output the signal aspect ratio It is sent it’s the display that you need to manage the aspect ratio with. Some people zoom the image of a Scope movie on their TVs some use lenses and or video processors with their projectors. The black bars never “go away” they need to be managed

@@HomeTheatreEngineering thank u so much! Your videos helped me a lot!

But what about when you're watching regular cable tv and you're channel surfing, won't these settings drive you nuts waiting for the handshake to finish on each and every channel you go through basically? Think (RUclipsTV) on AppleTV.
Thank you so much for this! Just to check, you guys are using the arcana to set LLDV to HDR for the projector to play it right?
Hi thanks for commenting. Ok so no we are not using LLDV for several reasons. 1) We are using a MadVR for tone mapping. 2) despite popular consensus Dolby Vision is not as great as is thought. It’s perceptual quantiser is a bit of a mess and in some ways HDR10/HDR10+ can be better..that’s a much deeper topic. Hope this helps.
@@HomeTheatreEngineering Thank you! So if you use the LLDV -> HDR10 function from HDfury there is no tone mapping?
@@N3D376 yes it applies LLDV tone map.
Amazing video!
Yes i would also love to see best settings for ATV 2021 if any changes make sense.
We haven’t seen this . I would suggest exploring your settings on the TV
Thanks so very much for this video
You are most welcome. Live Long and Prosper..
Thank goodness for this video

There is a REDDIT thread talking about something similar, and how to access the menu to change that. www.reddit.com/r/hometheater/comments/cspc53/psa_4k_60hz_hdr_onkyo_receiver_passthrough/
This info should be somewhere in the manual too. I found it in mine, but I didn't notice this obscure setting when I first set it up. Or try contacting the tech support to see if there is a way to change that to get Dolby Vision pass-thru your receiver to see on your TV.

Thanks for the video. Does it matter if it is on 50 or 60 hrz on the 4K SDR format.
Hi its not a massive deal. Its more related to the country you are in so USA would normally be 60Hz and UK Australia 50Hz. Bear in mind this is only relevant in SDR and not HDR anyway as the match range and rate then kick in.
@@HomeTheatreEngineering followed your advise yesterday and can see a big difference in my picture. Thanx again
Anything similar for audio?
It’s confusing that the menus shows “enable Dolby vision” making one think that Dolby vision is not turned on
Yes it is. That’s the reason we posted this video :-)
Great picture but getting some audio delay from my Samsung sound bar ..just purchased Rambo last blood ..audio delay is bad ..any ideas ?
@@atanner4 Agree, it only changes the menus. I only use my Apple TV for video so they could be some negatives for games and other apps? No sure.
Further to that HDMI 2.1 promises to speed up or reduce this but we are waiting to see this :-)
@@HomeTheatreEngineering Hmmm.
You should be getting the handshake and delay if all is working well and you are watching different formats. Very good video. There is somuch difference after i changed the settings of my apple tv 4k. But there are some issues. Everytime when i come back from the movie it takes couple of seconds to view the menu. There is black screen for few seconds. Also i have a atmos sound system and there is a glitch sound everytime we go back from the movie. So i need to switch back to default settings
Harish Snaps That “glitch” is actually meant to happen. It’s your system switching from sdr to HDR etc. that’s exactly what it should do
