In this video, I shared why I chose to share my story about my early retirement. As an ex overworked healthcare worker, life was pretty overwhelming and directionless for me. I'm grateful for the people who shared their story about how they took charge of their lives. and chose to live more intentionally. I vividly remember how those stories inspired me to do the same. I'm now lucky enough to have a platform, so I thought I should return the favour. While my story might not be relatable to everyone, I certainly hope some people will find some positive energy from it xx

I had a “girlfriend” who couldn’t stand me being happy and sharing something positive about my life. She always told me to be humble and stop bragging. I realized she is jealous and hateful. It was very painful lesson. She is not my friend anymore and after grieving for her I found peace and joy again.

I think many people have a similar stories, myself included. I have not completely cut her out yet as we have same social circle. But some people are just so miserable that they rather focus on other's life and turn it negative rather than turning their life around. It's about them. But congratulations on focusing on yourself and continuing to grow. ❤

How to deal with negativity? IGNORE - it may be challenging, because as humans we tend to remember the one negative feedback versus the 100+ positive ones. What you can do is remind yourself of that famous quote “hurt people, hurt people” and when people have a problem with you, it is THEIR problem, not yours. Keep living your life, sharing tips, and inspiring those who need it. All of my ❤and many successes to you!❤

You are a lovely sweet woman who exudes such a peaceful persona. Ignore the negative comments and focus on the many more positive ones. I left a career in marketing and advertising when I was 40 because I didn't feel fulfilled any longer. I decided to go back to school and become a teacher. I recently retired after teaching 20 years. I loved that profession and often miss it. I will sub on occasion so that I can still be around children and visit with the team of teachers I worked with. We should all want to evolve and to never stop learning. Keep doing what you do.

Try not to let negative comments get to you. They say so much about the person who leaves them and those are the jealous ones who sucks the positive energy out of others if they are allowed to do so. Just keep being your wonderful self and block all negative energy .

I struggle all the time as a physician and a mom of young kids. Luxury is one outlet for me. Career burnout is real. It's hard when you've come so far, but getting here burns you out. And I agree with recognizing it's okay to not have it all. I've come to terms with the fact that as much as I'd like to excel in my career, advancing and being top in my field is not going to happen because I have to find some balance and being there for my kids is my absolute top priority.

Having it all doesn’t mean having all of everything. It’s a state of mind where your actions are aligned with your values. You worked very hard for many years before taking the break and not all of the naysayers can say that. Your family has also sacrificed and they deserve a break.

There is absolutely nothing about you, your style, your messaging or your early retirement that comes across as bragging or showing off. Most RUclipsrs provide inspirational and aspirational content, and that's how I would describe your videos. If someone thinks otherwise, then it's a reflection of what they're feeling within themselves - and not to be taken to heart. Thank you for your lovely videos - I look forward to them each week. And congratulations again on your well-deserved and hard-earned early retirement!

Remember when people would comment when you got a new nice bag saying, you are so wasteful why don’t you do something meaningful like give that money to xyz? Those people didn’t like that you had something materially nice for yourself. Now that you have some peace of mind and special times with your family, they say why don’t you spend your time meaningfully like go to work? People will never be satisfied no matter what you choose. So go ahead and live your best! You deserve to be happy. Thank you for sharing with us.

I’m sorry to hear you’ve received negative comments. I did as well. I took three years off from working and returned to working this March. I kept my sabbatical private from most people. I had a friend who always made snide remarks about how he “had” to work and it must be nice to do “nothing” all day. When I returned to working part time earning a salary four times more than his full time salary, he had critical remarks about that as well. His unhappiness had nothing to do with me. I no longer interact with him.

I retired in my mid-forties. It's the reward for showing restraint and hard work. People who complain are bitter because they didn't figure it out for themselves or were unwilling. I make no excuses for my retirement; anyone can do the same if they are willing to work as hard as I did. Those of you that are resentful: channel your energy differently and you will see that you will get different results.

I think too many people are driven by jealousy and it makes them say things that they might not say otherwise. I left the workforce early as well and I've had no regrets. And just like you, it took some serious planning. Some people lack that ability, but that doesn't make it wrong for those of us that do! And we shouldn't be made to feel bad about it. In Italy working people’s taxes are used to pay pensions for retired people, so laws have been changing postponing the age of retirement to compensate for people who retired too early in the 70s and 80s when it was allowed, and young people are not expected to have a public pension paid by the state.

People take career breaks, re-educate themselves and even change careers completely all the time. It’s nobody else’s business and they have no right to criticise you for your life choices. Hi Eileen, thank you for sharing your early retirement story as I can relate to you greatly. I was burnt out from 15 years of full time primary teaching non stop, year after year, with no long service leave-by choice-as an experienced teacher at the top of the field, I undoubtedly worked myself to the ground. I left full time teaching back in December 2017 and started working casual as a teacher with an agency in early 2018. It was really hard, even as an experienced teacher and I didn't enjoy it much compared to having my own class. COVID came along in 2020. I was left jobless. I was scared to return when schools opened again for fear of continuing to get sick. I tried getting work as a fashion sales assistant. I landed a few jobs-also as a beauty therapist (I am fully qualified) with a very well known Parisian skincare company. Nothing could compare to the feeling of teaching children, so I didn't accept any of the offers. In early 2022, my husband and I decided the best thing for me to do was to retire. I turned 52 years old this year. I do not brag about my early retirement, but people don't like hearing it. When they congratulate you, it feels very superficial.

    Hi Eileen,
Please know I have always appreciated your content for the transparency, sensibility, balance and intention. Frankly, I relate to it as a stylish person (like you) who chooses value over trend, one who (like you) doesn’t over indulge, and a professional who (like you) desires at some point in my life to exercise the creative parts of me, not just the demanding and oftentimes, overworked business side. So, thank you again for this great content.
As for advice on handling negativity from others , I’ve learned it’s hardly ever personal. It is a common practice for people to “project” their insecurities and unhealed trauma on to others. To that end, it’s important to remember “how others feel about us, is none of our business.” Easier said than done, I know, especially on an open, public platform. However, I hope you are able to reflect and find some solace in these words and thank you again for the great content.
All the best to you. ✨✨✨

I'm older now (middle aged) and I feel very regretful that I was not more intentional with my money. I can see many peers retiring early. I'm quite tired and stressed. Would love a fresh start on a more creative pursuit or have more options open to me if I had a bigger next egg/retirement savings. I never feel jealous or see others sharing early or temporary retirement as bragging as I did have the oppotunity/means to do better than I did. That is not my personality to feel jealous of others. Of course there are some that didn't work toward it but instead inherited or married into money but there is no reason to be jealous of them. We all have different lives and choices. We also don't know everything that everyone struggles with. There will always be someone who is more privileged than us and it is a waste of energy to feel any negativity toward that. I enjoy your videos very much.

A Key Word in your opening was "Share". When one chooses to Share some part of their Daily Life & Thoughts with others, then ppl should express Gratefulness. If they can not feel privileged about having access to the Lives of others, then they should just not Follow or take interest in that person. RUclips is certainly a place where one can have that access & if the person who has gone to all the Trouble to Film & then Edit Videos every week, can not be appreciated by Certain Viewers then those Viewers should Not Click onto that Channel or be disrespectful to the person/people who are producing the Videos! In the days when Movies were shown in Theaters, if you didn't like the Movie, you just left the Theater & perhaps told your Family/Friends about it, but you didn't put it in the Newspaper (or other public forum) about how you disliked it or call up the Actors/Producers & gave them a piece of your mind about the Movie. But somehow now days, ppl persist in having the poorest manners by making it a practice to Criticize & Demean those who working hard at making Videos to post on the Internet. Even having hundreds of thousands of Subscribers who Love, Look Forward to Viewing & are Inspired by the Content on Certain Channels, doesn't keep the creator safe from those who sit & Criticize EVERYTHING about EVERYONE! So accepting the fact that you can't please Everyone, one should Continue to Create Quality Videos posted on a Regular Basis & do your Best to Please your regular Subscribers & yourself. I think that you have Content on your Channel that is Interesting & Helpful to ME, so I've Continued to follow you for quite a while now! I can't begin to tell you how much I've learned from you & how Content & Inspired I always feel after viewing another one of your Videos!
Thank You for Sharing your Life with Me! I'm very Grateful for all the Things I've learned from your "Sharing"!
    God Bless,
    An Avid Follower

To be honest I was not surprised when you announced your early retirement Eileen. I’m also on that same journey and I had picked up from your videos that you were on the journey to early retirement. The give away were the buzz words you used that are used in the F. I.R.E community, E.g pay yourself first, investment portfolio etc Congratulations. The negative comments are from people who only see the results but have no idea of the hard work and struggle that led you to where you are now. Enjoy your well earned break!

You handled the negativity in your own sweet way by making this video. Eileen, I think of you as someone who unselfishly shares her personal journey to achieve your dreams. Thank you for that. What you have described, (in case whoever wrote the negative comments missed) is that it takes hard work, dedication, planning, perseverance, and much more to achieve what you have at such a young age.
Eileen, please don’t let those negative comments get you down. You are an inspiration to so many of us. We understand that we need to WORK to achieve whatever goals we wish to achieve. 💕

You’ve worked yourself out for only God knows how long and if you’ve decided to early retire what’s their worry ?? Listen you have to do you and live your life to the fullest . Let those of us who love you and can’t wait to watch a new video from you keep doing it and let go of anyone who can’t stand your content and calm personality. Be proud of your accomplishments as @cocoB22 has said and keep doing what you’re doing because you’ve been a blessing to me personally. We love and appreciate your good work and dedication 😍🙏🏽

Hi Eileen. I embraced both negativity and positivity. If a negative comment is not true, then I ignore it. If it is true, then I will make adjustments. Simple as that. Enjoy your time off from work/early retirement. No one can define happiness for you. Only you know what can make you happy and have a fulfilled life. Take care.

I can resonate with you. You know i had an ex schoolmate and so long that i had not seen her. Then when she texted me, i saw her profile photo and commented she still look good. She took it so negatively and saying health is more important. I had no choice but to reply to her, did i say health is not important? Instead of saying thank you for the compliment, she took it so negatively. Oh my....then from there on, i do not like to keep in touch with her anymore. Once bitten twice shy. Why can't people just take compliments, i really wonder...In your case, just don't bother. Our life is not dictating by all these people.

I always feel weird telling people I’m retired. I’m “too young,” but what I don’t say is that I did this because my husband needed and has now had a successful liver transplant. We have a young child and I was experiencing burnout in my career. I didn’t want both of us to be two physically unhealthy people trying to raise a child and my husband absolutely loves what he does for a living, so I supported him emotionally, physically and in any other way I could. I did what I thought was right for my family and was fine giving up my job. Giving up my paycheck has been difficult, but I’ve learned so much more about myself, my husband’s strength and courage, our son’s strength and empathetic nature and the importance of being healthy and happy for one another and…occasionally, I’ll buy something nice for myself. 😊

Although I never viewed you as being a bragger for early retiring, I do understand why some people could come to the conclusion. Even though they do, doesn't mean it's fair. I believe this community is often misunderstood and MANY Content Creators(CCs) are the reason for this. I believe some viewers find it hard to see or often forget you and so many other CCs as being normal people, living your Full Normal Life (we do Not see that) and we see Only a glimpse. I MUST ADMIT Eileen, you've shared quite a bit of your life here and for the ones who follow you; it's easier to put the pieces together and even we can get it wrong. I believe you are aware of this. I'm not saying this is true for everyone, but I totally see how a viewer could have this opinion. I'm thinking, NOT ALL, but some people view videos not for the intent to understand you or any other CC...it's the Content they are here for....that's it. We are certainly all different and here for different reasons. I know for myself, I view you and your videos as an opportunity to listen and grow. You are needed in this community. Please don't allow a person's comment to discourage you.💛✨

You're about as far from a bragger as it's possible to get, Eileen, so ignore these comments. Some people are envious and wish to spread doubt and anxiety. That's life. The worst thing you can do is defend, apologise and placate - it's a complete dead end and you'll just be exciting them to type more crap about you. Your serious subscribers/watchers know that you are extremely modest: don't let people try to crush you!

You really don't have to explain, just ignore those comments. You share whatever you choose to share, no one is forcing those people to watch. I really cannot understand this obsessive need to comment on everything. Besides, you can't control other people's interpretation of your words. Even if you truly were bragging, who cares, and who's got time to comment in such a mindless and useless way? Let's open our mouths to actually say something valuable and helpful. Otherwise maybe we should start appreciating silence😅

There is no need for you to explain your decision, it’s so personal and I don’t understand how on earth someone find it bragging lol every situation has its pro and con, career break means more time for kids and they only grow once, con you lose some opportunities to climb up higher and let go some income during the break period; isn’t it easy to comprehend? There is no one in this world to “have it all” as god is fair in the way that we only hv 24 hours a day lol even if they “appear to have it all” it simply means you don’t know them personally…..
