I actually sold all but one of my luxury bags in the last 2 years. I sold 13 bags and 90% of my clothes and shoes. I was to preoccupied with designer and not life and enjoying my family. I wasn't hitting my financial goals. Now I actually don't miss any of them and if I buy something I will now make sure it's something I actually want, and need and only after I have hit some goals first.
I had 20 luxury items. I sold all but one. It’s a key/card holder that I use every day. I am so glad I got out of the luxury mindset. It’s so freeing to find joy in the simple pleasures of life.
@Saffanna As someone that used to try to tell myself that, I always felt that was a line pushed to justify the spending/overspending (even I felt it was BS when I wanted to buy said bag 😂)
I feel you are an 'old soul' Eileen; you are a very wise young lady! I know that you maintain that it has taken you until fairly recently to understand where you went wrong; however, some people sadly never get to that point! I have also said this before and I'll say it again: you never fail to amaze me how you continue to come up with inspirational weekly topics that not just interest me, but your loyal RUclips 'family'. I hope we (as a community) can continue to inspire you to keep doing what you're doing!
What means a lot, JayJay! Honestly I feel so blessed to have this amazing community. It’s taken me this long to share my job and home life because I’m usually slow to warm up but this community makes me feel safe to share xx
Whenever I feel like I want to spend again, I always watch your videos to remind myself I don't need them. Grateful for what I already have, will probably explore lower brands like polene etc for daily use. Thank you Eileen xoxo
I dont ever comment but as a fellow dentist, just wanted to say hello and that I think your content is great! I only follow 2 “luxury” youtubers and both happen to be dentists, feels so relatable at this stage of my life
Did not watch your video for quite a while as I am going through one of my toughest time in life. It is not easy to face the loss of your beloved ones within 2 months … my furry kid passed away in April and my grandma passed away in June 🥹 I was really stuck in these months and spent a lot recently. However, these luxury items did not ease my pain. I thought your video seems like a reminder to me. Thank you Eileen.
I'm so sorry to hear about your losses. I lost my dad years ago and the pain never really left, but I've learnt to deal with it a bit better. I'm glad you found some comfort from my video xx
My husband had a liver transplant 2 years ago and I soothed myself through buying expensive things. I’m working on this “addiction.” It’s not easy to break, but somewhat relieving to know I’m not the only one who does this to ease the trauma.
Thank you for sharing your journey. I have also learnt over the years that happiness comes from experience, from spending time with family & friends, from hobbies that we enjoy.. it comes from the things we do rather than the things we own. Another great video. Xx
Yes well said! Moderation, balance, and gratitude is key in life in my opinion. Just being grateful for a great cup of simple coffee, relaxing shower or bath, a cozy bed and delicious warm meals, and time with family. Being grateful for these simple things makes life so so beautiful and rich. You took the words right from my heart ♥️🥰🕊🙏🏼☺️
Beautiful transparency. Thank you❤ True we don't "need" alot. A few good pieces will last a lifetime if you look after them. Learning and reading not only educates us on subjects, but also we learn alot about ourselves.
Yes, I can relate to this so much, I'm still a student spending silly amounts of money on things that are not needed. I'm starting to realise that living in your means is nothing to be sad or ashamed about, it teaches you the importance and the value of money whilst making sure to manage it properly. Loved the video as usual. ❤
I love your views. I want luxury too but I’m kinda of a girl who don’t mind repeating my bags , jwellery, clothes etc. Over the years I realized I am happiest when I buy something I absolutely love and keeping wearing it !!
Dear Eileen, you are such an inspiration for me! I was stunned to learn that you are a dentist too 🥰 , and I learned a lot from your experiences. I love your minimalistic, simple and straight to the point style. , so refreshing ! Boring ??!!! Not at all ! Just stay as you are , you lovely soul! ❤️
Are you a dentist?Such an amazing profession. You are making people healthy and beautiful. And you are making us happy creating this video.Thank you very much for your hard work ♥️👩🦰♥️
I look forward to your video every Sunday evening! I’m loving the minimalist approach you’ve taken and I think you always look so put together. I’m sorry trolls think it’s ok to make rude comments. I can’t understand why they think it’s ok to type a rude comment but know it’s wrong to say it to a person’s face.
I completely understand. I look at my designer bag collection and now ask myself do I really need over 20 Classic Chanel bags????? Do I really need my birkin bags??? I’m so glad I came across this video, YHANK YOU.
Thank you for making this video! I can relate as a fellow dentist. I have been much happier with having my freedom of choice when it comes to enjoying my life and the money I make.
Thank you for your video. I like your balanced approach to life and 'happiness'. I also like nice things, but would only buy them in a fiscally responsible way. They do bring joy to me, funnily, as they are not only luxury items but also artworks, such as my beautiful Rolex. Black Friday sales are on this weekend, I was tempted to buy things that I don't need, then I watched your video and decided against buying out of FOMO. I like your saying of 'being intentional', and will take your advice to heart.
Everything happened for a reason. Able to enjoy simple life everyday is a blessing. We r only one so owning few luxuries bag or jewelleries be a minimalist is better than one owning too many luxuries items n keep worry whther safe or collect too much dust this will cause mental stress n mindset torture.. . ...we live for ourself n not for others.....so contd what one believe n do it....indeed Eileen video is an inspiration to others like me too. ..tks for sharing...😊
Aww! I love when you share videos of you and your son. Thanks for always giving good life advice and keeping us focused on the important things in life. 🥰
I find myself obsessing over potential purchases & I am always shopping online. I think it’s a habit that comes out when I’m stressed. I have a one year old boy & although I like being a mum, I’m exhausted all the time. Shopping is a kind of escape. I know it’s not a healthy habit & I have tried to cut down, but it’s hard.
I understand that sentiment. I used to shop when I was bored, stressed, unmotivated- basically any kind of negative emotion would trigger me to spend. I didn’t think I would ever be content with the ‘simple things’ in life but when I took myself out the rat race, everything became clearer. I hope you find your peace soon. Sending you lots of positive energy xx
I worry about money all the time Eileen. I earn a decent living but recently things have gotten out of control! Hopefully, one day, i will worry less when I will have enough money! IMHO, you can’t “enjoy” life if one is constantly worried about money!
I’m exactly at the same point in life......... Because of my state in life.....I find your open discussion behind ‘’luxury items’’ is refreshing. I stop buying luxury items...for now......and so......I’m on my journey call FIRE movement............look into it fir yourself...... Thanks again for sharing.
Thank you for sharing, Karen! I’ve been following the FIRE movement for 4 years now, so glad I found it because otherwise life really would be stressful and draining xx
I didn’t realize you are a dentist. I come from a family of dentists. Your demeanor must be so calming to those patients who are phobic. I’m currently on the journey of buying less but better quality. Also, I’ve found that when I sell my designer bags, I don’t miss them, but initially, have anxiety about doing so. It such an eye opening experience.
Lovely video. I was curious as to your profession and was surprised you’re a dentist! I thought maybe an executive. I also enjoyed seeing the snippets with your son and your home.
Love your messages, insights and outlook on “things” and life. Your videos help me stay on track with my own luxury minimalistic journey and quest to be intentional about everything I do - not just with buying. Thank you; you’re always inspiring 🌹
There are new bags and luxury items every season. It is impossible to buy all of them and use all of them. Having nice pieces to enjoy or as a reward for hard work is great, but it shouldn’t be an obsession or a necessity. At some point it gets overwhelming to keep up with trends and finding stuff sitting in your closet unused. I don’t understand how some ppl unbox new bags or items every month or every few weeks saying it’s their dream xyz. I sit there thinking: what happened to the stuff last month? The pandemic has taught me to slow down and live more minimally.
The biggest lesson from this video is to take steps improve our lives and not care so much of what others think. I feel like a lot of over consumption is due to caring about what others think and comparing ourselves to others. Treating ourselves to something nice once in a while as a special treat is nice but over over consumption is overwhelming.
Beautifully explained, I agree wholeheartedly being a dentist myself. Balance is all we need.. and the older we get, the more we appreciate that golden middle way in so many facets. Thx for all your lovely videos 🤗
Great sharing! Am reminded once again to count my blessings and enjoy what I already own. Indeed, the thrill of checking out handbags via YT videos and finally owning that bag is losing its appeal to me. The happiness doesn’t last.
Hi Eileen. I enjoy your videos so much. You have such an elegant style; not boring at all. As a matter of fact, after watching your video where you introduced us to LilySilk, I purchased several of their cashmere sweaters. You were correct when you said their cashmere feels soft and comfortable. I absolutely love them. Please continue sharing your journey and ideas. The information you provide has definitely helped me when deciding on which items to bring into my life. 🥰
Stop by to say hi. Thank you for make a reminding video. It means a lot. I’m a dentist too and started a master degree. That’s the beginning I started to collect luxury pieces. I don’t know how come I come so far maybe I might get some stressed from studying😂. I still have some pieces to collect and then I promised myself to quit buying luxury pieces and go back to the normal life that I used to be. Cheers to you
You're absolutely right Eileen. And it's not about knowing you should manage your money differently, you have to experience it to really feel what you need and want for your life. Thanks for sharing your thoughts so well. Hope you and the family are surviving well in this heat 🌞
💖 Investing in our homes is another wise way to spend money. Whether it’s a fresh coat of paint, a new kitchen or bathroom, an entertainment patio in the backyard or solar panels…all will add value to our homes & we get to enjoy, it’s a win win…been there, done that, I can’t recommend it enough xox
I think I can see a transformation in the way I look at life having less. I see it in you too and your last photo says it all, family is what’s important and you still looked cute 🥰
Hi Eileen! Just want to say that you seem like such a lovely, kindhearted person and your videos always impart me with a peaceful calm :) I really agree with your perspectives in life and applaud your honesty and, of course, style ✨ Always looking forward to your next video 🌸
I resonate with so much of what you're saying in this video! Of course, my personal life is different = I live with my elderly mom and cat, and taking time off to travel is not easy what-so-ever! It's quite hard to leave and take time off to enjoy traveling. This is why I've poured my "fun money" in luxury items. I work so hard throughout the year [up to 50+ hours a week] and I recently have told myself that I deserve to spend on myself and enjoy some of life's pleasures. Honestly, I'd rather travel and explore the world. But how can I do that? I don't have a partner or friend that would even do that with me. I have a big family but the other day I had to go on a work trip and it was very difficult to go for 3 nights / 4 days to travel. Everyone has excuses as to why they can't come sleep over and be with my (ehem, our mom / grandma). I feel stuck in my life. I accumulated so much luxury goods the past 3 years and I found myself selling most of it online. I didn't even want those items. Why did I buy them?! :/
I used to be much much better at investing the majority of my income in the stock market. I'm glad I've kept my 401k at the max. Other than that, I try to do the Roth but then that's it. I found myself sick of investing and "being good" and just wanted to take a break to enjoy some items. I just went overboard and bought everything. :/
Thank you for sharing with me! I was obsessed with shopping before and then I was addicted to decluttering. Now I believe everything can be done in moderation. It’s ok to treat yourself once in a while, but I hope you still take care of your priorities xx
I really love your video, your minimalist idea, I wish I can be like you. I’m now feel kinda bored with all the shopping and luxury stuff.. ita a never ending journey. But honestly, it really don’t get me to anywhere.
Thank you for sharing your journey with Eileen. I really appreciate it. Your video here has really resonated with me. I was also at a stage few years ago whereby I thought when I could afford more and buying things for myself would make me happier as my parents couldn't really afford in buying me things when I was younger with a vision that they wanted to save hard to afford my brother's and my education to study overseas. I was always buying so many SLGs thinking that since it was smaller and cheaper it was something I could afford buying handbags or something else not thinking that overtime, the total spent exceeds the amount that could have been spent to travel and experience new things, or buying just that 1 handbag that I really admired. Ever since I got married, it hit me hard thinking that luxury minimalism is the key, and I don't end up sacrificing everything thinking I can't own a few. I agree with you on luxury minimalism that I can still enjoy the few luxury items that I own and just not going overboard and not spending more than what I earn. Also I realised over time, I am a low key person, and am not the type who loves to wear different bags to work on a daily basis, so there was no point in wanting to own so many bags or jewelleries if I was the type who likes to dress simple and that I don't mind wearing the same jewelleries again and again. Also when I got married, I started to realise that if I didn't spend too much money back then on just buying unintentionally, I could have saved up a lot of money for something else better in my life. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Thank you for helping me remember and continuously keep this promise to myself. :)
I love it that you included short clips from your everyday life: your work, your lovely boy and also the beautiful scenery at the end. I'm at a point where I don't own much luxury items and ironically, I think it's mostly due to social media. I had been chasing for "the one" dream bag for so long, watched countless unboxing and review videos such that the bags I once desire no longer interests me anymore. It's as if I own the bag (albeit mentally) and that I simply got tired of it. Of course there are certain bags that I still desire from time to time but a part of me is still not 100% sure. I guess I'll figure it out one day.
Eileen as always very wise words. I’m so happy that I was never interested in luxury at a young age. I also was never much of a shopper. My husband and I have always been like minded when it came to our finances. I’m sure I’ve mentioned before but paying off our mortgage and having some financial freedom was much more exciting to us than spending frivolously. Now in our late 50s we are financially better off than we ever imagined we’d be. It’s the best feeling knowing that you have a home paid for and enough money to retire. Our main goal is to travel and spend quality time together with friends and family. I can still buy a bag or two during the year if I want and know that we will still be fine. He also has things he likes to buy but he also buys knowing he can get a return on his investments. I know if we had been big spenders in our early years that we never would have been so financially free.🥰🥰🥰
So true! Real estate 20 years ago were more affordable than now, making mortgages easier to pay off…relatively…as our income weren’t as high as now & costs of living were lower…somehow we managed… A balance in life is best…spend less than you earn will give you the financial freedom. Some might have reached that freedom & now able to enjoy their fruition, whatever that might be…first class flights & exotic holiday locations are no different from buying expensive jewellery or splurging on luxury goods xox
Hi Debbie, thank you so much for sharing this! I hope your story will I inspire more people to keep their priorities right, because it really does pay off xx
Eileen, this was such a beautiful story told. One that is true with each of us but only a few will get it. Love your cut aways. You are gorgeous, your wardrobe is gorgeous(I'm almost there BTW 😘). I'm so happy you have found piece and happiness. Thanks for the Inspiration.💖🌷🌻🌺
I always love your content, Eileen. You are a dentist, like my sister! ❤ I'm lucky to have found your channel at a time I was starting buying designer pieces. I really planned of getting only a few, to save money.
Thank you for your video! I had to leave my home due to the war with just two suitcases for myself and my son. We really do need less than we’re conditioned to believe in the modern society.
Wonderful video! I am a minimalist in luxury. I prefer to own less! For me, it is freedom! I like to have my money growing for a very happy and secure future! My husband and I travel a lot. Those shared experiences are more important to me than accumulating a lot of stuff! ❤️
Dear Eileen, you have made such wise and inspiring choices! I feel so much less alone with regards to my life choices because of channels like yours. I am not a fan of a huge amount of consumption. But I am definately not a fan of the die hard 'thou shalt only own 100 possesions including your toilet paper roll' kind of minimalism either. There's a happy, commen sense medium, that probably looks a bit different for all of us. Thank you and take care!
I would say only partly. I was already doing minimalism before COVID anyway. I had a 2-month break during COVID, but when I went back, demand for cosmetic work surprisingly increased. However, COVID did make me value freedom even more, it's reassuring to know you don't have to rush to join the workforce if you're not emotionally ready xx
*Dentistry seems super stressful. And owning a practice is even more stressful. Have you thought of a career change? Or maybe whittling down 5 days a week of work to 4 days a week?*
I invest in a personal trainer for my neck issues. I pay $500 a month for the membership and personal trainer. I am 60 and look 40. I notice dentists have problems with their backs and you have a very demanding job. You need to focus on your health first and luxury second. A few bags are good and that's all you need. You are much younger but have a more demanding job. Just realize that your health should be your priority. I have Chanel bags I don't use but are strictly investments. I know you say that's not an investment, but it can be if you choose the right bags. I only use them for special occasions and have a very large investment in stocks. Diversification is what you need to focus on. I always feel the best investment is in yourself. You are very talented. You are beautiful and just relax and enjoy life.
I actually still take courses consistently on Skillshare even now. I'm ever so grateful to have found my passion for illustration! Lately I've also been getting books and equipments to really learn about the the basics. I'm sure you'll find something you enjoy too 😀
I actually sold all but one of my luxury bags in the last 2 years.

@Saffanna “Want AND need AND only after I have hit some goals first.” Great words to live by.
@Saffanna As someone that used to try to tell myself that, I always felt that was a line pushed to justify the spending/overspending (even I felt it was BS when I wanted to buy said bag 😂)

You are a pleasure to watch, Eileen. The lessons you share exude so much humility and impart so much on your viewers. Thank you❤️

That really means a lot, thank you for being here xx
I was born and bred in the ever-so-hot Malaysia but this heat is quite intense! Melting lol xx

Investing in our homes is another wise way to spend money. Whether it’s a fresh coat of paint, a new kitchen or bathroom, an entertainment patio in the backyard or solar panels…all will add value to our homes & we get to enjoy, it’s a win win…been there, done that, I can’t recommend it enough xox
I agree! Funny enough, we’re having some home improvement done at the moment seeing Isaac is growing up and needs more space xx
I think I can see a transformation in the way I look at life having less. I see it in you too and your last photo says it all, family is what’s important and you still looked cute 🥰
That’s so sweet! Thank you xx
Much needed video for me today. Thank you.
I’m glad you found my video helpful! Thank you, Angela xx

That’s sweet of you! Thank you xx
You are my favorite luxe vlogger!
You made my day, thank you Riza xx
I really love your video, your minimalist idea, I wish I can be like you. I’m now feel kinda bored with all the shopping and luxury stuff.. ita a never ending journey. But honestly, it really don’t get me to anywhere.
Thank you for showing up xx
Omg! I’m so happy to know that you are a dentist like me!!!
❤️
Thank you for sharing your story with me! I find it so relatable and I’m really happy for you that you found the joy of owning less xx
Thanks for another useful video. You are sensible and articulate ~~
Thank you xx
I wish I can achieve that superpower as you in one day! Very much inspired.
You can do it! Sending you lots of positive energy xx
I love how honest you are. I need to take a look at my spending, and you really gave me some great things to consider when doing that!
Thank you for your kind words, Katie xx
I love it that you included short clips from your everyday life: your work, your lovely boy and also the beautiful scenery at the end. I'm at a point where I don't own much luxury items and ironically, I think it's mostly due to social media. I had been chasing for "the one" dream bag for so long, watched countless unboxing and review videos such that the bags I once desire no longer interests me anymore. It's as if I own the bag (albeit mentally) and that I simply got tired of it. Of course there are certain bags that I still desire from time to time but a part of me is still not 100% sure. I guess I'll figure it out one day.
I think you’re nearly there! The fact that you’re at peace with having the bags “mentally” tells me you’re on your path to wanting less xx
So true! Real estate 20 years ago were more affordable than now, making mortgages easier to pay off…relatively…as our income weren’t as high as now & costs of living were lower…somehow we managed…
A balance in life is best…spend less than you earn will give you the financial freedom.
@@m.h.t1286 where we live in Canada it’s nearly impossible to get into the real estate market. I feel for young people starting out.😢

Thanks for sharing!! A good life is made of small meaningful moments, but things xx

Thank you for this!
Thank you for being here xx
Hope you are ok Eileen. If you like reading, give this book a chance ‘Soul Keeping - by John Ortberg’. God bless you. Take care. x
Thank you for the book recommendation, Emily! I'll definitely add that to my book list xx
Haha your comment made me laugh so hard! Thank you for showing up xx
Great advice♥️
Thank you xx
I had one of those birthdays last week. 🤪
Happy belated birthday xx

How did you acquire your Birkin bags? Did you have to go through all of the purchases at Hermes?
Does COVID have anything to do with your conversion to minimalist? I heard that many dentists have lost earnings due to COVID.
Hi Eileen,if you dont mind how much is your hermes birkin bag ? Ty

*Dentistry seems super stressful. And owning a practice is even more stressful. Have you thought of a career change? Or maybe whittling down 5 days a week of work to 4 days a week?*
Yes I started pursuing FIRE years ago and it allows me more options which I’m thankful for xx

Wow u r a dentist.

I actually still take courses consistently on Skillshare even now. I'm ever so grateful to have found my passion for illustration! Lately I've also been getting books and equipments to really learn about the the basics. I'm sure you'll find something you enjoy too 😀
