- I try some Airbox modifications to improve the sound of my Ferrari 308 and mull over what colour a repaint should be. Bring the car back to the original white, keep it red or paint it another colour altogether?

It's Magnum, not Miami Vice - it looks great and needs to stay red.
U said it
But Magnum's are chocolate brown! :)
@@trickyrat483
Magnum P.I.E.? 😂
its like the land of the dads!! presenter pottering around in his PJ bottoms, dad classic car and dad jokes :)
Hahaha... killler comment!
Ferraris "should be available in any color you like....as long as it's red". !!!!
Bollocks. Ferraris are either red coloured or paid off. ;)
Great video, please keep it Rosso, suits it so much.
Looking forward to your video with Tyrell Classic cars, that is a great guy and wonderful channel.
Ferrari's look amazing in red, so keep the colour
Ferraris look amazing in black, yellow or white, too.
NOOO 😬 Keep it red!
I actually cannot imagine it in white, no matter what it was originally, I don't think I have ever seen a white one.
You could try a wrap if you are unsure. That way it's easily put back if you hate it. It also would protect the bodywork underneath.
It's great to see you enjoying this car. Your patience and knowledge has revived this car.
PS I wrote this 👆🏼just from the title of the video before watching it. Seeing it in white, it really did look ghastly. Keep it in 'resale red' as I believe it is called by many online.
Ha!! Yes I doubt I’m going to go with white!!
I think ‘Harrys Garage’ covered a white one.
Chris Evans has a number of white Ferraris - that marks it down in my book!
@@Number27 I've always loved the 308 in Marrone, but that would also require a change of interior color.
Like crema, moccha or caramel with chocolate brown for example.
Number 27 don’t!
There’s only colour for a Ferrari, as there is for a Ducati, Red!!!
Don't forget to add Alfa's to that list.
@@FelixIsMyName Yes,but they turn rusty brown too fast to make it a viable option..lol
Patrick Hostler The proper colour for Ducati is yellow.
Keep it red, sort her out and drive the heck out of her!
Wow! LOL
I think you're quickly becoming one of my fantasy dinner party guests along with Harry Metcalf and Iain Tyrrel
Wow, what an honour!! You need to get some women in there too though. To make it properly fun!
But you also have to include Scott C of Ratarossa!
RED is the best colour for this car!
Definitely keep the red, just looks right.
It is a repaint job.
Coming along nicely brother🤗
Just leave it alone, Red is good...look at the mess Evans created with his White themed Ferraris ....
You just know it must stay red 😁
I like these videos because it's just a regular guy trying to figure out cars and not trying to be too polished or professional. Keep on making awesome content!
Thank you buddy!!’
another great video, my anxiety levels had dropped and was feeling more confident for you till you said about a longer drive haha. keep it red!
What about fitting a bypass valve in the exhaust (vacuum pipe actuated) like later models, that would massively improve the sound, which currently seems a little bit like a 4 pot lump.
RED!!! RED!!! RED!!! RED all day long!!!
one of the greatest sounds i ever heard as a F355 that had a Tubi exhaust
I'm pleased that your back is better.
The car will always be a repaint car, so it might as well be a repaint car in a color that you love. Blu Scuro or Blu Sera Met. would be great, although you might also consider Blu Montecarlo nonmetallic.
Also he might consider painting it Pine Hurst Green.
It looks like you are on the home straight! Whatever you do, keep it red! White only suits Monospecchio Testarossas!
that’s a great result !! i had same on my porsche 986 S, i wanted a custom exhuast to have same as you wanted, then i de snorkled the intake vent , and WOW!!!!! i no longer want to change the exhuast! it sounds amaizing now! 😉😉😉😉😉👌🏼
Tyrrell’s oh yes! Love that guy. He could def breath some magic on the Ferrari😎
Leave the paint... just drive it and enjoy it, get the panels painted/repaired and blended in where applicable. Use the money saved for a mk1 golf :-)
Keep the red it’s the best colour
Great video and love the new rear camera! Where are these amazing roads?!!
Great to see the sound issue getting closer to being sorted and your confidence rising in the car overall. I can't get enough of the clickety-clack of that gear change. 😎
As for colour, some cars look so good in white...alas the 308 isn't one of them. The red is gorgeous and my next choice would be exactly as you described, a rich metallic blue. I think the red still has the edge though on this machine. Looking forward to the trip to Tirrells.....fantastic gent.
Stik with the red...
Ian Tyrell yes!
Definitely has to be red. You can see you're enjoying the car now and that's great, your smile says it all. Nice one!
Ger that trip booked, I'm about to do a trip to the Alps in mine. These are really strong cars.
Overwhelming vote for red so I say blue
Lol. I was thinking the same.
Would be a less common more unique
Car painted blue.
Keep the red, Ferrari’s look crap in any other colour, especially white! The sound is much better💪
Probably best you don’t chat with Chris Evans 😂😬
Yellow looks amazing. After all, that's the house colour for Ferrari. Red is for the racing cars.
"I want it to sound pissed off"
I want the same from my car.
I like this guy!
Great idea on rebuilding the oil cooler line. I had the oil and fuel lines on my Porsche rebuilt recently and it turned out great. Saved a boat load of money too by reusing the stock fittings. If you’re going to repaint, go for the color you want. But you will have to change your theme music if you deviate from red!
Ha!! Can’t change the theme music!!
Number 27 then I vote red (and some 80’s shorty shorts)! pbs.twimg.com/media/C994KaXXsAIXrfC.jpg
I'd say go for the blue or a British racing green, no use trying to appease collectors for resale value.
BRG??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wot?????
You remind me of a nutty professor of the Ferrari World. Keep up the good work 👍🏼
Sounds absolutely beautiful now.
Wow that sounds great now! I knew it was missing the weber howl!
Love the video. I'm really enjoying watching this series. In my opinion the car has to stay red. I think it will probably affect the resale value if you change the colour, that is if you ever sell it and I don't think you should. Can't wait to see you go up to see Iain Tyrrell, that will be fantastic
45 years on & countless Ferrari models later, I still gravitate to the 308. I'll never own one so thank you for sharing your real-world life with it. Oh I do love the clicks of the gear shifts, I can almost imagine my hand on the ball of the shifter going thru the gates 😊
Confucius say, "Man who go to bed with Influenzo problem, wake up with solution in hand."
😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
Much better with the open carbs, as for paint, if you are a purist for it to be original, than white is the colour, however, looks amazing in red and met blue, bottom line is, she is yours so have her how you want her. Fantastic vid as always
Greetings....glad u agree on the induction mods and yes, more of an Ansa Sports Quad exhaust sound will be finishing touch - and, you dont need me to tell you.................Red all day long :)
So impressed you got your Italian beauty running so well. Congrats! You are far smarter than any recommendations I can make for a mechanical upgrade to the air intake. Although a deep blue would look fantastic, come on, shes a Farrari! Plus your PJ's would best compliment red. That Scottish/Italian combo look is pretty classic. 😅😉👍
Thanks Gregory!
you paint it the colour that makes you smile, and that goes for intake noise, great vid again
Thanks buddy!!
Braw, sounds awesome!
I'm really enjoying your videos - you're a man after my own heart and we live in the same area - you seem to be driving around a lot of familiar roads. I'm a 964 guy but currently keeping an eye out for a 308 GTB dry sump. Take a look at Comedians in Cars having Coffee, or whatever it's called on NETFLIX, there's an episode when Seinfeld is in a white 308GTB. Looks very nice. And being a sucker for originality, I'd take it back to white. Good luck!!
Thanks for watching and I’ll look up the episode you mention!
I personally like those cars in silver/grey metallic colour. I think that those colours would benefit the car and show its beautiful lines even more. Red and blue is okay, too. 😊
While it does sound louder, to me it sounds more like an American V8. I like the screaming/ wailing high pitch sounds that Ferraris like the 355 makes. To each their own. Love the videos.
Thanks Stuart!!
I have to say I'm very glad to see in the latest vid that the car is still red! Maybe it's the era I grew up in but I just think that car looks gorgeous in red
I'm giggling with joy along with you, exhaust note is good, induction roar is best.
I used to remove the air box cover from my dirt-bikes not so much for sound but for power. My old Honda Elsinore dirt bike really reacted well to it. Yes, sound was also more visceral.
I did put 4 K&N Filter on the carburetors. On a 308 GT4. Sound was good.
There's nothing like the intake sound of a carbureted 308. I love these videos as I live vicariously through you!
Keep the red. I'd tolerate the white as they both work with the black interior but the red is iconic for this car.
I'm with you, though, as the blue 308s are gorgeous....but the interior needs to be crema' if you're going to go with blue. I wouldn't kick a "Blue On Black" F-car out of my garage, though.
Thanks buddy!!
I know it’s not the same system - but I put washing powder in an old merc I had in the coolant system - worked a treat - cleaned every part of it spotless - top video by the way
Thank you Bruno!
Hi Again, another interesting episode :) personally yes I think the added induction noise (more aggressive) is what was missing from the "in car" experience as its still sounds FAB on the drive by footage clips on the exhaust note ! As for the colour, totally your choice as she is your baby, but deffo not white imho. As you comment in this video it's not a colour that suits that car I feel. My own personal choice would be to stay red as it looks absolutely fabulous (no tv show pun intended) Having said that if you love blue Ferraris, go for it. From memory I think think I have seen the odd photo of one in a kind of dark-ish metallic silver / grey that I thought looked great too. Keep up the good work on the channel !
Thank you Tim!!
Dark metallic blue with tan interior is the best combo I’ve ever seen.
Red.
The sound is really getting exquisite!
That's a better tune, and the smile on your face confirms that, I subscribe ti Iain Tyrrell he's a top guy, 👍👌😀🏎.
My girl had one back then, and she preferred my driving. I had no complaints. Hers was the only white one I’d seen. I wished it was red, but I remember the white fondly. I’m glad your car sounds better but still not quite running right. My guess is air. How are the exhaust manifolds? An intake that is fed from above would be nice. I like your videos 👌🏾
Retail Red!!
I like Blue I think it’s Chiaro but the white is not for the 308. I swore I’d never have a black or a white car again...all the cars on my drive are grey.. except for my 944 which is white and does look good.
Intake noise is great .. can’t you use the mesh domes they used to have on racing cars ?? Maybe a finer mesh to stop cats getting sucked in??
You’re doing the right thing, driving a classic is exactly what’s required, they hate being parked up, no square tyres for the Influenzo!!
Thanks for another great instalment!
Thanks Karl!! Definitely will be driven!! I think you’re right.. it was Chiaro a light sky blue. Looks lovely.
Remember to use a two bucket method when cleaning and no sponges,
The smile on the face told its own story. Sounded great. Induction noise on a Revvy engine is addictive. My old e46 M3 with an Eventuri was great for that.
I’m not w white car and it would be a shame to see the Influenzo that colour. If I ever get a Ferrari it would have to be red but that blue did look lovely with the orange repeaters
Ian Tyrell is by me I’d love to see that Influenzo and say hello 😀👍
To each his own on color. As long as that means red for the Influenzo!!
I really enjoy watching your videos. Refreshing to see a normal guy doing the work and fault finding himself. Imo you should leave it red.
Thanks buddy, appreciate you watching and glad you enjoy them!
For the carbs filters, try something like ITG. It will perform and look nice. They make models for these carbs.
they look gorgeous in white. A bit more understated, but very classy.
I would say Red or if you can get a true Ferrari Blue. Go for it! The intake noise is great. I think maybe exploring a different exhaust would be good also.
I am a total fan of the influenza. Long May she run! Thank you for the great videos! All the best.
Finally you're bringing up the colour question. I think you should keep it in Rosso, but whatever you decide on:
0:20 PLEASE KEEP YOUR PANTS THE WAY THEY ARE 😂😉😜👍
Maybe have them as a t-shirt logo as well? Love your videos so far!
Thank you Miguel!! And no fear.. I’ll keep the PJs!
The mad scientist laugh with the panel removed, love it 🤪. No wood? There should be when driving that car 😅😅😅 Looks great in red, but blue would be nice too. I like the idea your friend has with the panel and filter. Go as tall as you can with the filter, 1 for more noise and 2 to allow the trumpets to work better. Even with the hot engine bay air, you might even pic up a few ponies... All the best from Sydney Australia 🇦🇺
Thanks Roland and hello to Australia 🇦🇺!! Love it over there. Shame it’s so far.
It almost looks the bonnet gets hollow when you floor the throttle without the airboxcover :D please keep it red...if you need to get it painted then night blue.
l think that an oiled gauze type filter like K&N's will improve the intake's sound. Driving with those carbs open to the engine compartment is a fire hazard.
Agreed, I have K&Ns on my Alfetta (dual 45mm Webers mated to single centre-mounted hotdog and no back box - glorioso). But there are plenty of generic trumpet-filter options for Weber carbs, that will be cheaper than anything badged as "suited to Ferrari".
red looks great
Rather like a white Ferrari but Magnum wouldn’t approve so paint correction is the way to go. Sounding magnificent
Sounds great ! Btw...lush
I'm almost sure Pertek will make the oil hose for you at a very favourable price . I have used them on many occasions, they are generally very helpful people to deal with .
Sounds so much better mate, i got to admit i do like a classic Ferrari red but strangely in this case i think i prefer the white.
Leave red paint for sure as iconic and looks better than white - keep tinkering mechanically as with every step you’re building a very desirable car - well done 👍
Thanks Malcolm.. !!
Airbox cover off! Did that with my old S2000 😄 for more of a wail, are there any companies that produce an x-pipe for the 308?
Just thinking you could buy a prebuilt universal x-pipe and then get a decent welder to splice it into what you currently have? Love that kind of experimentation ☺️
You need to watch the Jay Leno garage episode with the white 308. It looked great but really it’s gotta stay red!
I think it looks great in 'red', but your car, so any colour you like - pyjama tartan check?
Whole thing from purchase to now has been a quite a journey, & an enjoyable, well presented viewing each time. Best wishes to you!
Thank you EZE, enjoy your weekend!
Seems like the red was done pretty well. All the jambs, enging bay, etc all got sprayed. Going back to white seems like it would be a pain, and tho I do like the 308 in white (it's actually kind of rare iirc), the red looks awfully nice! Cheers!
Is it practical to remove the thermostat while flushing the coolant system instead of draining what you can and driving it around? There's what, about 12 miles of plumbing in that thing you need to clean out?
Was driving round my seat ibiza without an air filter for the best part of a year until I brought a stupid cone filter. surprised it still ran sweet considering worked on a farm being dusty and all
You're right: White just ain't right...on the InfluEnzo.
Always enjoy your vids, thanks!!
Thank buddy!!
Have you tried Pirtek for a replacement hose?
i am not a red fan in general! but the 308 is so iconic in red🎈👍 good that you found the oil leak. but even better how your finding the part for great price!
Red or blue Jack definitely not white, I loved the 'I'm getting increasingly confident in the reliability of the influenzo' line - we might hold you to that at some point! Anyway it's a great car and you're giving us top entertainment, keep em coming 👍👍
I know.. I was tempting fate there buddy!!
Keep the paint till it needs a real makeover. Somehow white reminds me of the Vetroresina, it' s epic therefore too! Ian won 't be cheap but I am convinced that he has some good advice for this type of Ferrari and the work is more than excellent!
Oh no, never white, it must be Rosso Corsa!!, Love the video as always, its a bit of a hoot with unexpected hilarity!! Yep the more induction noise the better for sure......whatever you can do to increase that is good, I would also consider a K&N air filter, they arent as dense as the paper ones and allow more noise, I have a K&N on my 348 and there is a noticeable increase in the induction noise....mayeb look into that, I am sure you'll be able to get one for the 308....
Thank Kevin, I’ll check it out!
Just a thought but why not cut holes in the lid above the carb trumpets and fit mesh above them or go for ITG foam filters i have one on my Race Mini.
If you watch some of the videos while we where setting it up before painting ( btw it‘s in the gulf blue colour now, ) Red, Red, Red, Cheers Dave
I would leave it red, looks great, sounds great!!!
Blue would be really nice, because all Ferraris are Red this Days, so it would be awesome to see one in Blue. Thanks for the nice vids and keep up the good Work.
Thank you!!
RED for sure….Hope you are not running to weak without the air filter, burning holes in piston crowns could be expensive. Perhaps fit a sliding rear window ala FX4 to get more NOISE.
whenever I see you change gear, I flinch at how slow the gate makes it
It’s part of the fun!
Don't be ignorant😉
It's a 70's car. Back then, shifter mechanisms were very imprecise, hitting the correct gear can be difficult. The gated shifters removed the problem, and offered a very precise shifting, no more finding just "a boxful of neutrals".
The 308 is a dogleg shift 2nd & 3rd are opposite each other, and that crucial shift is very quick.
But the best things about gated shifters are the feel, and the SOUND. It's like racking the slide of a pistol.
I'd go for a gated shifter over paddles.
And on the 308, you have to pull HARD on the stick !
You carn't beat the sound of nice growling Webbers 😊😊😊
I’m gonna get some driving gloves like that!😎😄
100% keep her red! Sounding lovely now btw
