Great update video!! Always good when the vid ends and the 308 is at least running. You're a part of our larger family, just so you know. And with your winning PJs!! Brilliant!
Lovely Jubbly, thank you for all the great content from the highs to the lows, keep the video's coming.
😲 Blimey! If it's adding to the overall value then it will be worth it in the long run. Looks SOOO much better without fog lights on the front.
Hold on!??!! Did I hear the word work? You work! That has shattered another illusion.
How on earth do you manage to produce quality material like this and hold down a job. I doff my cap, well done sir!
Thanks Virgil, I have no family so that helps but it is hard to get all the work on the cars plus the filming in!!
Another great update. Honest and to the point. I know you've had some difficult times with the car but once finished, I'm sure it will be very satisfying. Better start looking for the next project soon! Good luck.
Thank you Geoff!!
A friend gave me a ride in his new 308.quadra valve in the late 1980s.
It was an incredible car. I had been in a 930 turbo , a 928, and a 911SC but something about that 308... That ride made my palms sweat. And my daily driver was a 400hp muscle car. But that Ferrari was fast and cornered with confidence. Unlike the 928 boat or the 930 death machine
What i love about is your channel feels like real life.
Thank you!!
...if only i had a solid GTS too...... :)
Thank you so much for all your videos. I look forward to your continuing story each time you post a video. Keep them coming! Cheers from Silicon Valley, CA!👍
Thank you Nathan and my best wishes to the 🇺🇸!!
I really like your channel. Thanks for your efforts. I'm just about to embark on my own 308 GTS resto and your channel is inspiring.
I love these videos, keep them coming, the extra spend is worth every penny
My first thought was that the words 'cheap' and 'Ferrari' should never appear in the same sentence ...
You didn't know that's an Oxymoron?
Lol.
@@larrychamel If you look up Oxymoron in the dictionary it probably uses "cheap Ferrari" as an example.
@@gordonmcmillan883 😂🤣😂😂🤣
You naaa mean lol
You may have had your ups and downs with this lovely car, but, at the end of the day, it is gorgeous and we are all envious.
Love the car, loving the journey. It’s nice to see it’s getting some proper love!
Only came across your channel when u got the 308, I have how watch a lot of your vids including 12 cars which I did I enjoy, will be watching the rest to catch up, enjoy your vids mate, and am looking forward to the next one 👍
Thank you buddy!! Really glad you’re enjoying it. Thanks for letting me know!
It’s all coming together nicely. Look forward to seeing what colour you decide on for the respray (Rosso or that nice blue?). Best of luck 👍
Just found the channel and binged watched the 308 series. Loving it!
Fantastic!! Thanks for watching!
Love watching this sub count shoot upwards. Well done, sir!
Thank you sir!
Not as much cost wise as I was expecting Jack, thankfully. Good that you are capable of much of the spanner work.
InfluEnzo looking good mate.
The universal joints on the steering column should be slightly offset. Google universal joint phasing for more info.
Absolutely one of the all time best looking Ferrari's in history.....loved the Magnum music at the beginning....man that car doe's things to my boy bits !!!
@JBags72 Was meant to be a Group B Rally car too, wow that would have rocked.
@JBags72 Absolutely, especially the rear end....Just super sexy.
Influenzo deserves every penny invested!! Well done, Jack!!.. 👍👍👍👏👏👏
I’m pleased that you are enjoying it keep it now you will have nothing to lose in the long term
Even totting up the bill your doing well on the influenza. Love it and love the car. Fresh out of school in 87 I ended up on a YTS scheme at Maranello Concessionaires in Egham working for a new department which then was called Mar Parts under Tony Osgood, not sure it still exists. It was a new idea they had to build parts the factory no longer had for all old Ferrari's. Tony would measure bits up, transfer info to a CAD and gets parts produced with Ferrari approval, I was responsible for quality checking parts produced and the store. Loved that job up to the point I joined the army for adventure. Keep up the faith and great videos.
Thanks Marcus and interesting history there!
Brave man adding up the bill of your work, I am normally to nervous to do that!!
I’m excited for you! I would change color...go with one of the blue shades, yellow would look cool too. I would also get rid of the rear spoiler to give it more retro look. I would probably keep the rocker panels black.
Now the suns out, was expecting tartan jim-jams shorts edition
It's an eye opener when you start to tot up what we spend on our older motors, I gave up doing this while go, saving grace no labour cost to press my time is free 😉
Although it may go over your notional budget but at least it will be well sorted! Another great vid, thanks!
Thanks buddy 🙏
I have a similar story.. 944 decent nick. Good interior, recent paint. I changed sunroof and rear hatch seals, the roof gutter seals had been over painted and were a wee bit damaged so I replaced them... this little rubber fest cost over £100.00 ( wife doesn’t do you tube so I’m safe)... the speakers had rotted away so I replaced them and it had a nasty head unit.. got a Blaupunkt Bremen.. looks period but modern internals.... sound was a bit weak so I chucked a compact and discrete Sub in the boot (oh that’s was there when I got it love)... that come to £600.00. Knackered a locking nut.. £70.00 to get removed .. crap tire that didn’t match the rest... £95.00...
radiator split.. £150.00 of some guy in the easter bloc... superb quality in stainless btw. Then a new thermostat.. water pump gasket developed a leak.. ordered gasket and what the hell a new pump... oh sorry sir you should do the belts .. I ordered the kit... no one would do the work... local specialist said I’ll do it but not with your parts... there mostly OE I said .. he said no I said Bye. Got a trusted mate to do the job.. getting done soon.. parts £250 ish... job... ishyish.. 😳. So.... bloke logic ... I’ve saved on the specialist that wanted close to £2k for the belts and I’m getting the wheels refurbished...
Anybody know a good trimmer near liverpool .. the roof lining is dodgy..
Classic cars... gotta love em.
Your car will be great Jack.. get it done it’s an appreciating asset.. everyone loves a Ferrrrarrrri
Enjoy your 944 buddy!!
Always a bit scary adding up the bills ;) Ours was a little worse off but these cars are so nice once they have been sorted. Have your shop look at the the shift rod seal when they are doing the transaxle seal. Ours needs replacing. So great you are getting it put back right :)
Thanks guys.. the shift rod seal apparently always leaks. Been told if it is replaced it will just leak again within a year or two.. so don’t think I’m going to replace that for now!
@@Number27 That's really interesting... I'll check and see if there is some trick. I know there are a couple different seal possibilities and there is one smack dab in the middle of the pan as well. I hope the cosmetic damage gets sorted easily. F
Just found your YT channel and enjoying working my way through your vids! We don't have a GTS and a Sprite but we do have a Mondial qv and an MGF🙂
That’s a cool mix! Thanks for watching!
Looking forward to seeing the Fezza back renewed! Also going to miss seeing it. So beautiful to look at
It’ll be back in a couple of weeks!
Great content as always 👍👍
Love the real numbers,,,,great show
Thank you Walter!!
Never add up the bills! 😂
And if you do add them up.....keep it secret....
-It seems as if my wife still believe me when I claim I "make a little bit of money" whenever I sell a car or a motorbike.....If only she knew....😁
Always fudge the numbers in your head and when your brain unconsciously begins to add the numbers just tell yourself the numbers are fake. Carry on..
In terms of my RC model cars, avoiding totting up my expenditures is what I do. Nevermind this.
Have a shirt that says " my greatest fear is that when I die my wife will sell all my car parts for what I told her they cost".
Hi Jack...brilliant channel... Did you ever solve the issue of the flexing steering column and also the issue about misaligned 2x UJ's in the steering column shaft.
Thanks buddy! Steering rack and other issues sorted out soon!
Not to bad at all, cool video Jack !
And in classic wheeler dealer style no costs labour costs 😉 looking forward to seeing fred again, i was worried he had gone...
308 will look stunning with a repaint. Love the frog eye. If I'd been smaller I'd have bought one myself.
Going to see my 1602 tomorrow. Hopefully we're not too far off from mapping the engine now.
Not much more space behind the wheel of a 1602 ??!?
If the bushings are worn out just change the shocks. The improvement in ride will be worth it
Your cars going to love you. They do know when you do something special to them. It amazing how many people have similar tastes...Of course I have a Ferrari, however, if I had the garage space I would have a Frog eye...as well. Can't wait for that video. Cheers, from Down Under.
Thanks buddy my regard to 🇦🇺!!
Phew, I thought for a moment you were going to get rid of it, I really believe it'll be worth it in the end, you will have an excellent Ferrari 308 GTS, perfect!
I do love the 308's, they are among my all-time favourites.
But, the sentence "an excellent Ferrari 308" is an oxymoron. They weren't even excellent when they left the assembly line..... 😉
You are absolutely right, but it’s all about the Ferrari passion, all IMHO of course 🤣.
Totally agree. Stick with a lovely looking car in the 308...
Not a bad expenditure...and the only way is up.....well done you!!
Maintanance costs. How is the paint overall? Maybe just some wetsanding and buffing. It used to be a dutch car right? I like that. Red is better than white. Isnt there a diy garage with bridge you can hire? I did the maintanance on my bmw e21 at a diy with bridge. Keeping the costs down.
Black pearl would look great on this beautiful design!
Always nice to see welds on a steering shaft.
I don't do instagram... Maybe it bypassed my age group, but still loving the youtube channel. Can't wait to see this all finished!
Simon Holmes Ah! Another grown up. Nice to meet you! 👍
Thanks for watching Simon!
Who do you use for transporting the car around? I need to move my classic thats not currently running.
To get a car in tip top condition in running and looking I think that's not bad. As someone said deep pockets required. However, you'll never loose money. It's a great car. Great vid
Thank you sir!
I had a Ducati 860.Frustratingly an emotional roller coaster ride but I learnt alot about electrics.Even managed to rewire it.....successfully
Wow. And I thought that my $2000 CAD exhaust job on my Kia Stinger was expensive, but it's nothing compared to your $6600 CAD for all that you've done so far. But then again, I don't drive a fabulous little Ferrari! 😉
Thanks for sharing this honest financial report! 😁 And best of luck for the future, and I'll be sure to watch videos about Fred!
Thank you Alain!!
Look on the bright side when you get it back you forget about the money when you see it all shiny u think omg love it
Nothing as expensive as a cheap Ferrari, you have to really really want one for it not to totally kill the experience.
"We suffer so very much for the things that we covet"
TBH I've never seen or fitted UJ's myself inline anywhere, they've always been phased so that they are 90° to each other, having said that my experience has always been on transmissions and drivelines where they are spinning quite fast. On a steering set up I would suggest any notchiness could be worn or even just dry bearings.
Well done with these videos, I love watching them.
Cheap Ferrari...I've bought two.
The first one was a gorgeous Mondial 25 years ago that was in fantastic condition and had a FSH.....I tried to use it as a daily driver....it broke down every two weeks and spent six months of my one year ownership in the local Ferrari garage being fixed. They cut their labour charge in half for Ferraris more than 10 years old. I told them that was very kind of them but they told me that it was because they were in the garage twice as much as newer ones.
The second one was a 599GTB 9 years ago, gorgeous, again with a full service history. In my two years of ownership it was in the garage for 8 months. Again mainly electrical problems but the brakes also failed one day. One of the nicest cars I've ever driven but these cars are not worth buying....they are so easy to love but impossible to live with.....reminds me of something else actually!
Yeah, they ARE worth buying. But mainly keep them in your garage, it's the driving which must be limited....
Fab, thanks for the n ie words! Sorry to hear of your negative experience!!
To make yourself feel a little better, you could take out the costs of tools & test equipment as it a Capital expenditure which can be re-used.
Also, it's arguable that Consumables, such as fluids, bulbs, etc are normal running costs, so remove those as well ...
Your Labour, is a 'Labour of Love', so that that gets written-off as necessary for this 'relationship', with your 'high maintenance bird' ... !
There's probably a credit to be added for keeping out of the 'boss's' hair and not annoying her ... (savings in chocolate, flowers & dinners, etc).
So, overall, seems pretty cheap to keep your 'Mistress' housed next door !!!
Very true Stephen! Thanks!
Keeping up with your progress. A lot of people do this sort of thing and then sell the car as it's becoming too expensive to maintain, having repaired everything and leaving the new owner with trouble free motoring for years. The steering rack problem reminded me of a Mondial 8QV I had, from the same era. The pinion gear stripped whilst I was driving it and I didn't notice until I had to go round a roundabout that took about 36 full turns to manage! I bought a new one from Ferrari it was quite sensible at under £400, nicely chrome plated too. A bit of a sod to fit as all the pop rivets keeping the fibreglass in the front "boot" needed removing, and even then it was a chinese puzzle to get it in. Only went in from one side and needed turning and twisting until the track control arm popped out the other side. It's a very nasty feeling when you are driving along and the steering wheel just turns and the car carries on forwards. Managed to get home and reverse onto the drive after a few tries.
WoW!! Lucky escape! Thanks for watching buddy!
Love your stuff from a Yank, who lives in Greece !!
Excellent combination! Hello to you 🇺🇸!
Cracking video as always
It’ll be worth it long time with the Influenzo
I forgot about the Bug eye, do you have any others other than Pep
Just those three!!
Great collection
Us kind of guys will never have spare cash 😂
You've done well catching up on a lot of the cars service items which should have been done in the past. I've kept on top of my F355 having it serviced every year of the 11 I've had it. I've spent around £25k including 3 engine out belt services, having the sticky switches done, new shocks, tyres, clutch etc. Worth every penny and free motoring over 11 years with current values.
I love some people's logic, free motoring .......excluding the £25k I have spent on servicing.
S2000Y: I have a large-ish Powerboat. It costs me £5,000 a year to park it. But I’m so pleased that the big diesel sips fuel at 3mpg. For me that’s good value - madness I know!
S2000Y this is 2270 pound per year. Especially if Richard made some milesper year, than these service cost are not that bad for a supercar like a Ferrari, aren’t they?
S2000Y I’m sure he means that, purchase price 11 years ago + £25k in servicing = current market value of the car. So it’s cost him nothing if he sells it because he gets his money back. Ignoring what that money might have been worth if properly invested etc etc...
Watch out for the Grandkid that encourages you to repair/replace everything...
Hope everything works out well for you, labour of love etc. Looking forward to Frogeye story to!
Thank you!! Drove Fred today.. was so awesome to be back in it!
I have no idea how you're always calm and patient with this car.
You don’t see me off camera!!
I almost bought a f355 Ferrari 14 years ago but had second thoughts when I considered the operating costs. So I ended up with a Speedyellow 1996 993 Porsche Turbo for about the same money. I don't drive my 993 that much
but over the years l had to address an AC leak, oil change and valve adjust, that's it!!
We are leading parallel live Mate! Mine is in shop for front end work after 18 year old girl backed into me after i finally finished $11000 of servicing and immaculate condition!...so now I visit in between medicals....lol Btw..do all bushing ...not expensive if sourced correctly. Was night and day difference...also got rid of the Koni shocks and got QA1 with eichbacks lowered....love it....track it and huge difference!
I bet!! Thanks for watching buddy!! I have to be careful on spend though..
Thanks for the video, you forget half the jobs you have done, how long do you think it will be before you sell the Ferrari, sorry not sure if you have mentioned it but what colour are you having, 👍👍.
What about timing belt or chains? Did you do those?
And I thought my e46 BMW was a money pit . Ouch 😄 and you have just got started
Depends which E46 Lolz. I got bitten by the E46 2.0l 318i. I should have have known that I was in for a blood bath when I bought a 318 that actually has a 2.0 donkey.
I think it isn't that bad compared to modern cars- new brakes on a (BMW) MINI is at least 1500€, had a Peugeot SUV with a broken seal at the clutch... 2500€ - DPF 600-1000€...the motor for the windscreen wipers is 600€... my favorite parts were some plastic clips for the engine compartment of a VW van- 28€ a piece...
Mark in Ohio .......I have watched all your videos because I am working thru some of the maintenance items on my July 1979 308GTS, 4 carb USA model. Sn 28735. Done plugs, ing wires, touch up cap, points, rotors. I have 2 of 4 webers that weep a bit and the repair kit to fix them can't wait to see you show me the way to do the job. Bad flat spot when going round a corner and transitioning to back on power. I buy my parts from Superformance too.
My car was side swiped, not bad really, and I went for a full repaint in original red. I did not go back to bare metal and that was a mistake. It was the third cost of paint and looked great for two years but then the underlining repair areas started to become visible, like the old and new paint were not compatible. Wait on your paint till you can do a bare metal repaint. It will last longer.
Thanks Mark.. am looking forward to doing the carbs. Won’t be till winter though!
Gotta love the old magnum p.i. car!
I thought the first rule of passion was to never add up how much one spends...
As it’s ticking over outside your garage at the end of the video there sounds to be like an alternator or water pump grumble sound 🤔 or is it the microphone just picking up mechanical sounds generally?? Just an observation 😉 Keep up the great work 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks buddy and it’s just the mic.. it’s running pretty well right now fingers crossed 🤞
Number 27 That’s good to hear, just checkin’ 😉
I was initially expecting the decision to send it to a garage for an engine rebuild, but then it all came together, until the “JACK” accident. Then it became a no brainer, just time needed to plan it all. The findings of QV that you’ll get sorted will make it night and day. But the idle seems rough at the end of the video? Any development on the screaming exhaust?
Car had just been started up so idle was not at its best but otherwise ok!
When are you launching the influenzo tartan pyjama bottoms in your merch store?
Ha! Others have also mentioned this!!
What was the actual cost in Dollars It looked like it was in Rubbles or something was it like 3500 hundred bucks or 4800 from what I saw on that paper.?
Your positive approach is infectious. But. Do you still love the car and would you sell it for a new project?
Still love it.. wouldn’t sell it right now..
Yay, another Sprite video coming! I love that car.
Looking foward to some Fred the Frog Eyes Sprite videos!
Am guessing the missus was out when he was totting up...
That was my first thought. Brave to share it on RUclips though...
there's a Ferrari 458 spider on /r/thatlookedexpensive on the top results for this week where they were lifting the car and it slipped pretty similarly to yours
Oh no!!!
Hi Mate.
If you check with Demon Tweets they might have the Weber Carbs Filters.
Cheers Carlyle
I think you've done well with this car, and I'd be a bit sad to see it go should you decide to sell it as you've put in so much effort to make it the great car it should be......I vote you to keep it!!
Hey Kevin, it’s not going for now so don’t worry!!
Your Ferrari, the Countach, and the Delorean are my all time favorite 80's sports cars. I know I will get maimed for the DMC but I don't care.
I've spent about the same on my Boxster!
IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD A NEW ONE...YOU DEFINITELY CANT AFFORD A USED ONE 🤣🤣🤣🤣🇮🇪
I think you need to get a MX-5! I bought mine in April, 10 years old with 77,000 miles and it has cost me zero so far, apart from things I wanted to do but didn't necessarily need doing (upgraded suspension and undersealing)
Awesome cars!!! Great value!
Top car. Epic trousers 👍
Cheers Don!! 😄
QV on Quest at the moment on Vintage Voltage. I assume it was the electric conversion of the Ferrari you drove being featured on tonight’s program??
Yep!!
Some of those parts were cheaper than I expected. Fiat main dealers charge £80 for four spark plugs and an ignition coil cost me £50
Keep it red or go Nardo Grey on the respray man! Grey will look sooo good.
It’s so exciting that you’re getting it repainted. Are you married to the red paint, or would you consider another color? Personally, my car is white, and I think the 308 looks great in white. Looking forward to your next video.
Ha!! Thanks Kristopher.. I don’t think I’ll be going back to white.. but enjoy your 308 buddy!!
Don't forget the £1400 for exhausts was discretionary, so it doesn't count :)
Didn't realise you had a Frogeye too - just sold my FCC Frogeye this year to move into a 987 Boxster. I do miss it...
Not totally discretionary.. old exhaust was buggered and whistled! But I like your style of thinking!
You mentioned Q.V. a number of times. From the sound of it they know their way around classic Ferrari's so how about some contact details for them, and other garages that you feel have done a better than average Job on the car?
Google QV Ferrari, they will come up!
Ian Tyrell the Ferrari whisperer.
Have you decided on which colour yet? I'm probably in the minority but still beating the drum for original white. Would look great and I'd imagine easier to sell come the time. Gorgeous car and loving the vids.
I think it’s going to be red.. sorry!!!
What happened to shields on the wings?
On balance didn’t like them!
If your going for a full dip maybe turn it back to white
Hey.... do you have the WEBSITE LINK for that cute car stereo with Bluetooth available ? And many of us would like to know what the sound quality is like & if you're satisfied.
~ Cheers.

Glad I bought a Porsche now. Apart from oil changes had it 3 years haven’t spent a penny on it.
No contest, Porsche is miles better quality.
Colin, that's great but, in order to qualify for the coveted Grand Prize and the bragging rites that go along with the title "The Best and Cheapest Used High-end Sports Car Purchase" that you made on your Porsche, you must actually DRIVE the car. Just admiring it sitting in your garage and occasionally touching, fondling, and admiring it plus, the act of unnecessarily changing the oil, Does NOT, repeat, Does Not qualify you or your purchased Porsche to be a legendary, brilliant and/or insightful, "I bought a rare and extremely expensive and highly collectible sports car that needs Zero repairs, plus I only paid a fraction of what the car is worth" type of deal. I'm am very sorry to have to break this troubling, and no-doubt bad news to you today. However, if you look at the bright side ( and you should ), you can console yourself with the fact that you now own a great and seemingly very dependable and, I'm also sure, a very beautiful Porsche! I am considerably envious of both your car and the fact it is in such great shape. You lucky bugger! Lol
@@k1j2f30 I do drive it as regular as I can but it's only a bit of fun really, unfortunately I have to work so my company car is Used mainly so I just use the porsche just for fun, had loads of classic cars over the years I don't really take them seriously though.
