Enzo Ferrari told the story of the prancing horse logo just once:
The horse was painted on the fuselage of the fighter plane of Francesco Baracca - a heroic airman of the first world war. In '23, I met count Enrico Baracca, the hero's father, and then his mother, countess Paulina, who said to me one day, 'Ferrari, put my son's prancing horse on your cars. It will bring you good luck'. The horse was, and still is, black, and I added the canary yellow background which is the colour of Modena.

It’s actually the same horse! The reason it was painted on the plane in the first place was because that pilot shot down a German plane from Stuttgart in World War One. He took the prancing horse from the plane he shot down as a souvenir.

This isn't true. The symbol isn't actually a horse, it's a mule. This is because Enzo Ferrari's favourite game was Buckaroo. So much so that he put a silhouette of the mule on his badge. The early versions had buckets and spades being kicked off by the mike but it was dropped as the badge had to be a foot long in order to accommodate all the equipment.

In my case the 930 drives circles around the 308 but this is not about going fast. For me it was about the driving experience, maintaining and working on them myself. Both cars are very easy to work on if you have some skill. Enjoy your 308 my friend ! There’s never going to be another one like it.

"The Ferrari's broken down, believe it or not." Why would anyone not believe a Ferrari would break down? While I think the 308/328 is one of the best looking cars ever produced, the lack of quality is something I'm too old to deal with. Too bad the 911 prices are still stupid, they're great cars. That said, your channel is very entertaining thanks to the trials and tribulations that come with owning a Ferrari, so we can all live vicariously through you without having to have our bank accounts pummeled into oblivion. As for ownership, well, I'm into bikes. Apart from a sizeable collection of high quality classic bicycles, I have a 1955 Norton motorcycle which I restored myself, and a 1950 Vincent V twin which I am currently restoring, myself. The engine /gearbox is on a table in my living room.

From Wikipedia: The Prancing Horse used as part of Ferrari and Scuderia Ferrari logos and Ferrari symbol.
Count Francesco Baracca (9 May 1888 - 19 June 1918) was Italy's top fighter ace of World War I. He was credited with 34 aerial victories. The emblem he wore side by side on his plane of a black horse prancing on its two rear hooves inspired Enzo Ferrari to use it on his racing car and later in his automotive company. Francesco Baracca's parents, who told Ferrari that their son used to paint a prancing horse on his airplane and suggested that if Ferrari applied the horse on his cars, he would have good luck. Now we know how Ferrari won so many races.

Once the fixes of what the previous owner passed on were done (brakes, tires, ignition system), I never had any problems. A great, fast, reliable car. Exactly what I think about the Beetle lookalike. The 911 is the safe option, you'll not have the German on ramps anywhere near as long, but they're so drab, that interior is pretty non descript too.

Great video. And as the former owner of a 308, I agree with the specialness of it...and still a stunningly beautiful car all these years later. Ironically, the only time my 308 broke down it was also the clutch cable. At the time the car was 14 years old and it was the original cable with just over 90,000 miles on it. I had organized my support system of mechanics ahead of time, so even though it broke at 5 pm on a Friday afternoon, I was back on the road by 11:30 am Saturday morning. Never had another issue with the car in the 3 years and 36,000 miles I owned/drove it. Having to be more frugal with my money these days, I recently bought the true sports car bargain of today, a 2001 Porsche 996 C4. 82,000 miles with a good service history, it is a pleasure to drive, and it gives me a wonderful analog experience. But if I could get back into a 308, I would. Preferably for me, a Dino 308 gt4...I love the little back seat as a catch all. Truly enjoying all your videos. Thanks.

I have to add that I drove my 308 every day, it was my only car. Drove it to work, to the supermarket, to jury duty, took the animals to the vet...and again, only one breakdown. Having owned a few Ferrari's and a couple of 911's - Porsche all day, every day thanks. Ferrari is too fragile, attracts the wrong sort of attention (mid life crisis etc) and the old 911's are very classy now IMO. The Ferrari thing is for many a lifelong automotive dream but the journey to owning one is better than the arrival. After you get acclimatised to ownership, the liability that they are with huge parts costs and outside of enthusiasts, the cars unfortunately draw a very negative reaction from most unless they are 12 year old lads. That said, the Prancing Horse will always hold a special place in many petrolheads hearts (including mine) but take away the sound......and they're just not that good.

Great when parking or enjoying narrow country roads.
The latest offerings from both companies seem huge.

The 308 sounds proper, now! Fine workmanship, too. Well done to your exhaust shop.
I love these old analog sports cars, and I'm old enough to remember them as new cars:
Contemporary road testers judged the 308's handling somewhere between very good and brilliant, but all mid-engine cars were tricky on the limit. Nobody likes offset pedals, most don't care for the 'classic Italian driving position', either. 'Ferrari build quality' was an oxymoron in those days. This vibrant Italian woman is dead sexy, but annoying and prone to breakdowns.
911 handling was somewhere between frightening and terrifying, anywhere near the limit (but with brilliant steering feel). Novices need not apply. Oddly arranged, bottom-pivoting pedals made heel & toe difficult as hell. Build quality was second to none. Buttoned-down and conservative, yet compellingly unique, this bitch is dangerous when cornered.
A US contemporary was the C4 Corvette, at about $25k. Fastest of the group. Built better than the 308, not as well as the 911. The truly front-mid mounted ~230 hp / ~330 lb-ft Chevy small block, lighter than the 911's flat six, made it precise and predictable at the limit. Robust, at 1520 kilos. Excellent ergonomics, but climbing over the high door sills was a PITA. Choose a comfortable yet well-controlled suspension, or an uncompromising track package called Z-51. Beautiful twin sisters with different personalities, sturdy country girls at heart.
It's interesting how relative values can change so drastically over time. When new, we had the Ferrari at $45k, the Porsche at $30k, and the Corvette at $25k. Now, the Ferrari is still worth $45k (+0%), the Porsche a shocking $90k (+200%), while a perfect Corvette might bring $20k (-20%).
