They turned a blind eye when my mom would leave me outside overnight or in 110+ degree weather and if I tried to leave my mom they would literally look for me all over town and berate me then take me back to her

I feel bad for little Unica. It’s hard to lose a close cousin. It’s hard to lose a BFF. When the person you’ve lost was both it’s heartbreaking. I know a little about that. My sister died 4 years ago from cancer. She only lived for 2 months after the diagnosis. She was my sister and my BFF. It’s hard. But Unica at some point you’ll find a new BFF. It may take a while and she’ll be different but that’s ok. You’re a brave little girl. Remember the fun times you had and make her proud.

A 36 year old daughter, a 30 year old daughter, a 26 year old son and a 24 year old son at the time. My sister was only 53 when she passed. She also left behind 7 grandchildren and one on the way. After she passed the one on the way was born and then 2 more were conceived and born. The grandchildren she had when she died ranged in age from 2 not even conceived yet, 1 in his mama’s belly, and the other 7 from age 3-12. I don’t expect the surviving children from the shooting to grieve like adults do. God puts protection around the little ones. They do grieve and suffer but they don’t feel it as badly as adults. But they’ve all been scarred for life.

As an Ex Corrections Officer we have to remember even though this is very tragic and we feel for this father who is locked up we don't know why he is in there There are many different reasons they don't furlough for things of this nature. Keep him and all of the families in your thoughts and prayers.
As someone who's brother was incarcerated for a few years due to marijuana use and who's aunt is currently a corrections officer, it doesn't matter what crime they've committed half of the time. My brothers childhood friends were murdered -he didn't get to say goodbye. I know a man as well who was in prison for one year on drug charges and they did not let him go to his mother's funeral when she succumbed to her cancer. You're correct, we don't know why he's in prison. It could be for murder for all we know. But they say that losing a child is an indescribable pain, and not allowing him to go to his own child's funeral - on top of losing his child - is life punishment. How cruel.

By teaching them to be honest law abiding members of society. Not by selling and dealing drugs. That's sheer selfishness. One of the main reasons they do not let you out for a funeral is because you are either a High risk inmate meaning Level 3 or 4. And your active in prison. Meaning he’s getting into fights or into trouble while in jail. Your jail record has to be spotless for them to let you out. I’m not talking about street criminal record. I’m talking about the write ups records you get in jail. And you have to be level 1 or 2 on good behavior

He knows he's responsible and I hope that all these parents get together and demand he explain and be charged for their demise. As an Ex Corrections Officer we have to remember even though this is very tragic and we feel for this father who is locked up we don't know why he is in there There are many different reasons they don't furlough for things of this nature. Keep him and all of the families in your thoughts and prayers.
Non violent related drug reason
As someone who's brother was incarcerated for a few years due to marijuana use and who's aunt is currently a corrections officer, it doesn't matter what crime they've committed half of the time. My brothers childhood friends were murdered -he didn't get to say goodbye. I know a man as well who was in prison for one year on drug charges and they did not let him go to his mother's funeral when she succumbed to her cancer.
You're correct, we don't know why he's in prison. It could be for murder for all we know. But they say that losing a child is an indescribable pain, and not allowing him to go to his own child's funeral - on top of losing his child - is life punishment. How cruel.

You don't know why they didn't allow him? One can surmise that he's been nothing but trouble while in prison. Another thing is, a father puts his family first. By teaching them to be honest law abiding members of society. Not by selling and dealing drugs. That's sheer selfishness. He had a beautiful daughter that he could've raised and had beautiful times spent with her. He made choices that landed him in prison. Furthermore the fact that he's in Kentucky only shows us that it's more than likely that he got caught out spreading that crap to different states and it was more than likely not his first trip also. The only tragedy here is that a beautiful girl had her life cut short by this animal/ monster named Salvador Ramos, that and the utter incompetence of every law officer that was present that day.

One of the main reasons they do not let you out for a funeral is because you are either a High risk inmate meaning Level 3 or 4. And your active in prison. Meaning he’s getting into fights or into trouble while in jail. Your jail record has to be spotless for them to let you out. I’m not talking about street criminal record. I’m talking about the write ups records you get in jail. And you have to be level 1 or 2 on good behavior
