Hey Javee nice vid, I’ve only played the demo of Odyssey and did not enjoy it much but I’m sure i would enjoy it if I tried it again. I do not know if you saw my comments on your live stream but according to history, where Eivor met Alfred at the end of the Order, he is hiding and preparing for Guthrum. It would be an awesome dlc to see Guthrum get power hungry and Eivor helps Alfred at the Battle of Eddington to resume power of Wessex. Then perhaps Eivor might open his eyes to Alfred’s new Templar mentality
As a kid that grew up obsessed with Ancient Greece and Greek mythology I felt completely engrossed exploring this world. At times even truly wishing I could be a part of it. Few games have ever made me feel that way
I feel that. I adored the Greek Myths growing up and Odyssey gave me the fantasy of playing out a myth of my own, full of moral parables, impossible challenges and a feeling that every new land held some bizarre new story to tell.
I think the reason he feels this strongly about Odyssey being better than Valhalla is expectations. Jayvee really felt betrayed by Valhalla because of the expectations he set for it. Meanwhile he went into Odyssey with zero expectations so of course it was easier for him to find things he liked.
I'm a 73-year-old Slovak. I've been playing this game for a really long time and about 7 times since the beginning. I have to emphasize that this game is perfect for old players. I play everything the game has to offer and I still really enjoy it. Kind regards, Milan
The progression is also rather gradual, and it’s a great game for people who just began playing. A good first introduction into RPG’s, and gaming as a whole. Like RDR2, it’s one of the few game who actually intrigued my father and impressed him when he saw me playing it. The length of the story and all the side content and exploration possibilities make it a perfect game for retired people, or during the lockdowns. It’s the game I would take if I had an hospital stay.
I’m so glad people are finally realizing how great Odyssey is and not judging it through all that came before because I’ve loved it since it came out and I never understood why people hated it.
I love the fact that Odyssey quests are built like a greek tragedy. For anyone who truly loves this time period, it just makes everything better! Still waiting for an ancient ac which includes Carthage, Rome, Syracuse, etc...
Yes! I thought the structure of Odyssey's quests was really thematically interesting. Even the side quests, sometimes you'd choose a dialogue option that you think games want you to choose for the best outcome, but the ending isn't what you expected at all. This mode of delivering the game is what makes me really like Odyssey over Origins. I abandoned Origins after 5-6 hours because it feels like a contemporary police drama or Taken with an ancient Egypt filter. Despite being silly sometimes, Odyssey feels like it actually somewhat conveys the worldview of the ancient Greeks.
@@jprec5174 They wanted the whole spear thing in in one hand. Other being a custom weapon. It should have just been some amulet like in Witcher, and whatever you want in either hand. All the mechs were in the game for your opponents. If the game allowed true mods like Skyrim, it'd have shields and so much more it'd be insane. But Ubisoft keeps way tighter controls over their games. It's a shame.
Because your a mithios and you don't care that your a spartan you just want to find your family (at least that's what I'm up to) also the spear is used in assassinations and it's made from isu technology
Odyssey was easily one of my favorite games.. like the amount of work and creativity / thought that got put into it alone makes this game an actual piece of art
Sometimes you have to see how rotten modern stuff can be for you to admit the greatness of what came before it. I always like the Star Wars Prequels, they were never great but I was capable of seeing the light shine through the shit. But the vast majority of people hated them altogether and proclaimed SW to be dead in the 2000s. It took 10 years for Disney's Sequels to show them what a truly horrifying cinematic abortion is, and now the Prequels are at least acknowledge them for the good parts. If Ubisoft doesn't get their shit together in the next AC people will be defending even Syndicate, just wait for It.
@@prinzdenax I still remember being mindblown by it. I had played AC I, II, Brotherhood, Revelations and Black Flag before playing Syndicate and it was the game that I enjoyed the most
I feel like AC Odyssey is finally getting the love it deserves. Odyssey was a beautiful, brilliant game and was the perfect escape during the first lockdown. Exploring the different islands and doing the side quests took you to a different world
Odyssey is a fine game if you just want to turn your brain off, roam around some pretty scenery, and mow down mobs of the same enemies over and over again. I have some games like that too but that's definitely not what Assassin's Creed is which is why some people have a problem with it but I'm glad you got something out of it.
@@ReluctantWarrior I think the mistake they made was over-explaining everything rather than leaving it mysterious. Personally, I don't think a historic action/social stealth parkour puzzle box game about a clandestine group of assassins who kill tyrants to effect political change and maintain some semblance of freedom in a secret war with a competing order bent on controlling everyone ever needed the sci-fi and wonkey ancient "first civilization" stuff to tie it to the modern day or that it even needed to be tied to the modern day. The Desmond stuff is fine, I didn't mind it, but most of the time found myself just wishing to get back to the guy in the cool flowing robes leaping off buildings to stab evil people in the neck and save the day.
Yeah! I got thus game when the pandemic started and it definitely got me through it lol. Actually got it the same day i got my Xbox One S on black friday.
Being a huge greek history & mythos nerd since I was a kid, playing AC Odyssey was basically a dream come true, roming ancient Greece and exploring towns that I read about in books, and even if they were fictionnal within the setup of the game, meeting and talking with people like Perikles, Leonidas, Socrates and Herodotes was truly very nice. And I wont lie, the modern day / ISU story is very interesting more than ever in my opinion, I always liked seeing and reading about ancient civilization/technology and all things "alien" to humankind. And I know that a lot of people didn't like Odyssey as an AC game (even hating on it) but somehow I'm very glad that 2-3 years after, people are also realizing how good of a game it is on its own. Still not perfect, but very enjoyable and good at what it does. Edit : and I forgot to mention the music and greek sea shanty, this part gets a 10/10 for me
@@Blatantblatheist Prometheus tries to tell you straight Greek mythology. Then Zeus goes in, and gives HIS take on it. It's freaking awesome. It plays a lot like AC too. Some skills are straight out of Odyssey you can just tell LOL.
@@users10116 I dont think because its greece...the colours...its a full world...they work hard in odyssey...to create a masterpiece game...I have 1500 hours... I had a lot of fun with the bow because we have unlimited arrows.

At this point, the only difference between Jackson and most of us other purists is that unlike us, he has accepted that AC will never be the same and has moved on. We should all probably do the same if we want to keep our sanity.
Haven't played AC since Unity so I just accepted AC is dead. I ain't supporting these RPGs lol I'll come back when I'm not bombarded with "pay microtransactions" for armor/outfits
That would be great because then Ubisoft would at least try to make good games for those that like the new style instead of trying to please both camps and edning up with something like Valhalla.
I honestly absolutely love Odyssey not because it’s a “good ac game” because it isn’t really an ac game, I love it because of the environment, characters, setting, mythic items, lore and mythical creatures I love how it’s an RPG and it’s just so good I can’t get over it. But I also love Valhalla for so many other different reasons
I loved Valhalla and Odyssey because it was RPG and you could customize your character to an extent. Also like the fact that it’s not just spamming a button anymore. When I played AC lll and AC black flag I was blown away at the realism and history, for example, I always imagine how the Boston massacre look like and then they show it in the game, which was cool to see.
i loved ac odyssey SO MUCH, i love the athens vs spartans, i loved the monsters, the historical accuration, the world is so beautiful. odyssey executed all gameplay styles flawlessly in my opinion. i love it. my top 2 AC game alongside unity.

I literally cant enjoy the half decent main story when i have to grind for hours so i can wander an area without being destroyed. Edit: ive spent way to long trying to prove my point. @@smoothyodaproductions4373 shit I had issues keeping my armor and weapons leveled up because I blew through the leveling so fast even with no XP boosts. I also did as many side quests as I could to earn gold...hunting pirates was a favorite past time and still is.
God, I felt that in AC3 they gave me. WTF is this, he moves like some junk robot. Only running is OK. He fights clumsy, the counter is junk, lots of times you don't know you've done it right. Firearms are crap to use too. He climbs stupidly as I felt in the theater already. Black flag fixed it all a bit, but lots of those same flaws are right there. Origins/Odyssey were amazing about how much BETTER they were, and at stealth too dang it.
Odyssey should have been its own game! The cities, towns, villages, temples, fortresses etc is as close as you can get to being in ancient Greece....stunning example of the ancient world. I just wander around, do some missions.....and wander some more....Sparta today....Athens tomorrow....but hey, that's me.

With every enemy outpost look exactly the same qith exactly same enemies at exactly same position. That is what I got from odyssey. If comparing. Odyssey, a great game and I love it, valhalla to.

Me too... I can't really talk about the og fans, because I haven't played the 1st games... but I played odyssey and loved it! I miss the characters... sometimes, I just want to play the game to see them again...
Odyssey was the first AC game that I was really invested in and I remember right in the first few hours being blown away by the word and the atmosphere that they've created. I haven't been this excited and happy about playing a video game since I was a primary school kid. I specifically remember leaving Kephalonia and going into the open word for the first time and feeling how romantic, inviting and explorative the whole world feels. Everything from the music to the lush environments and the dose of humor. One of the very first places I happened to go to was the place where Cyclops was hiding and finding out there's a big mystery behind his cave and I got the sense of how large and mythical this game is and it hasn't disappointed me in my whole 300 hours of playing, there was always something new to gasp at. If people were able to look past the "assassin" aspect, they would see that the game was absolutely amazing for what it was trying to be and they executed it perfectly
Even i loved the game but stopped playing after the level required for the next mission was too high (in the mission you get at the Pirate island) so I had to unfortunately stop playing
I swear to God, everything you just said perfectly describes my first experience with the game as well. Even down to stumbling upon the Cyclops early on. I still argue that this is AT LEAST the second funnest game in the franchise. Not the second best, in my opinion, but in terms of a fun, memorable, exciting gameplay experience, Odyssey excels like almost no other entry in the franchise does.
Okay, like I get this perspective, I really do. I play video games because they're fun. Most games are fun. But this is a critique and a comparison, taking a magnifying glass and reading between the lines. This is "if you really care a lot and want to compare games, this is what I think".

I have put well over 140 hours into Odyssey as a whole. It was during the pandemic when I was on unemployment for about 6 months. I did everything I could, finished the main story, took on a ton of contracts, finished so much side content, beat all of the dlc's and I still have so much more to find and do. It's literally my favorite assassins creed to date. And I can't wait to play it even more every day.
Good, and for that even I enjoyed some of the older ones in which gameplay plain bored me, and the story. They always went out of their way to recreate those ages in every game.
AC ODYSSEY is the best game ever made. The reason it doesn't vote higher on lists is because gameplay and fun are well over looked in general in all rankings of all games.
Same here. In fact I have not finished Valhalla. Prob try again once it's all done. Going thru Odyssey again on PS5. Wiped my save and started over. Gonna try to 100 percent it. Haven't done that yet. Kept doing new game plus.
When the pandemic hit I started Odyssey and was blown away. After over 50 hours of play I decided to try Origins as so many spoke of how great it was and also ancient Egypt fascinates me. It was good but imo doesn't compare to Odyssey. The landscape got surprisingly boring rather quickly. Maybe had I played it before Odyssey I would have been more impressed. Then I tried Valhalla, expecting a more polished game build on the back of Odyssey, it too disappointed in comparison. The combat mechanics didn't feel as smooth to me and I'd agree with all your points about the sailing experience. Overall Odyssey is polished, engaging and completely engrossing. Whenever I want to play a game that doesn't include multi-player this is my go to. The most immersing game I've played to date. If you have to pick one, I'd highly recommend this be it!
Origins is better. I've said it multiple times, Odyssey has stunning view and Origins too where the vast world and vibrant colors carry the whole game and Odyssey's fighting mechanics are easier than Origins being more polished and also more RPG-friendly but Odyssey sucked with the story. I don't know how to say this. I'm a history buff and I do like how both games glossed over historical people who made significant changes to society and their culture like Sokrates in Odyssey and Cleopatra & Caesar in Origins but when it comes to actual history tie-ups to the ever changing landscape and the purpose of assassinations which ties back to the name of the game, Origins is better. Like when you play Origins, you help both Caesar & Cleopatra with their ambitions like how you helped George Washington in ACIII in beating the Red Coats whereas in Origins, you're beating Ptolemy XIV's loyalists and that helps the historical aspect of events. In Odyssey, you met Perikles who was the head-of-state for Athens at that time and you don't do much for his ambitions too. It's much like a "hi-bye" affair. Isn't engaging. Also, in storytelling wise, Origins is better too DESPITE being the 1st game of the trilogy series. It ends with a clean cut and that's it. It gives you an ending that what you want to have and what the protagonist has been planning the entire game has been set. Odyssey is just a mess and a half with multiple endings that doesn't end. You can save your that Spartan "Lion" dad (Whatever his name is...) and still do the ending where you kill last of the Ancients. It doesn't bog or tie it together and yet it's still an ending. Makes no sense at all that it isn't linear. I'm not bashing the game for bad mechanics as I like Odyssey's mechanics and various side quest that does nothing much to the main storyline but god damn how useless the main quests is that it doesn't do much to the story or ends it on a high.
I really enjoyed 'Origins' but the entire time I was playing it I kept thinking: 'this game would be amazing, if only it had dialogue options and actual choices with consequence'. Then, 'Odyssey' came out and gave me exactly what I was asking for, with gameplay that was so good I actually enjoy combat - and I almost never enjoy combat in games. I had feared, initially, that I'd be bored with Greece because - as an American - I have been inundated with Greek history and mythology all my life; as it turned out, however, it was done so well that it rekindled my interest. I bought 'Valhalla' purely on the weight of my experience with 'Odyssey' and found it to be all the things I'd feared Odyssey would be - too familiar and soulless in its delivery.
Been playing this game for almost 4 years now since launch, well over 700 hours put into 6/7 New Game+ playthroughs, I still love this game. It’s not perfect, but it doesn’t need to be. Its story is charming and emotional, the gameplay isn’t deep but still very fun, and everytime I’ve done a play through I always find something new that I haven’t seen before, whether that be a quest I missed, some dialogue that I hadn’t heard or choices that lead to whole quests that I hadn’t played yet. People can moan that it’s not a good Assassins Creed game, but I don’t care because it’s a fun, mythical Greek RPG that knows what it wants to be, unlike Valhalla
@@Bobotix it just didn't have any direction and changing tones, it keeps changing from a serious around dark story to stupid unfunny jokes in a matter of seconds
the biggest issue I have with Valhalla's stealth system is that I can't even use my bow in bushes because I'll automatically be seen. I could do that as much as I wanted in Odyssey, so I was surprised that I could no longer pull that off in valhalla.
I agree that mechanics was really Awesome, I really had a lot of fun with it. Shame that you cannot quick Mercenaries of the cliffs etc... because they are so powered which I understand why, but some times would have been nice to have the ability to make them fly with the spartan quick, especially when you are surrounded by 5 to 8 mercenaries + the whole fortress army
I love Odyssey. I've spent the last few weeks replaying it. So much content, beautiful areas to explore, great stealth mechanics, awesome armor. So much to enjoy. And Kassandra is bomb. Good stuff.
I’ve never played it, but am starting it for the first time tomorrow when the 60 fps patch drops on next gen consoles. Looking forward to it after hearing all these reviews.

I know it’s an unpopular opinion but I love odyssey so much it’s arguably my favorite single player game ever. The setting is awesome, the combat, the side story content, ship combat, etc. it’s j awesome to me
best advice i can give? look up. half the time the door is barred, there'll be a gap above that you can climb into, or a thatched roof spot you have to shoot down and THEN climb into. otherwise yea its basically 'find the hole in the building to shoot the barred spot'
It made me RUclips each after 20 mins. I've really tried on some too. WTF. If it's far and in between in the main quest line, yeah I'd have liked them. They stuck them all over, and it just annoyed.
No offense but that's kinda sad. So many good games out there and your best experience is one of the worst games in a series on decline. There's guilty pleasures and then there's just doing yourself a disservice by being obsessed with not good games.

I love odyssey for the historic realism and setting. You literally have a education mode in odyssey to teach you about history. All this while being a huge scaled remade of the area. It could be I'm more familiar with greek stories and knew most of the characters before hand and seeing them was great.
Do people not realise that 100 hours is a lot for people who have a life if u have 1000 hours you don’t have to say that 100 hours is little it’s a lot of time for people who don’t play 24/7 just don’t say anything

It’s 2023 and idc what ppl say about this game. The world is gorgeous!! The enemies are smart and whenever you shoot an arrow at them, they go to the location where they were shot from and they’ll still keep looking around even if you’re not caught. I like how you don’t get caught right away by enemies. This is something we need in Mirage.
1. Odyssey: For its massive land/water map, loot/progression system, story/character arc, fascinating setting, and faction battles. 2. Origins: Same reasons as Odyssey, just no (permanent) ship 3. Valhalla: It's okay, but I enjoyed the Ancient Egypt/Greek settings more. Still gets an 'A' in my book.

True, it's the only AC game since AC 2 that I've finished twice. Valhalla is so boring, I just went on with it because I paid money for it and I hoped it'd get better.
Well I hate Oddisey as an ac game , buuuuut the music , the the exploration , the combat , the story was soooo amazing , I almost finished it but my windows started to act like crazy twice , i think it's the only single player game that I put 80-90h in it :))) but for reall , that game it's amazing in fact , and I will play it again that's for sure , vallhala it's ok , but could be better in some instances ..... I just finished my first ever playthrough in 2022, and I must say this game blew my expectations out of the water. Having been a massive Witcher 3 fan you can see Ubisoft took a lot of notes from that game and implemented them here. Side quests actually carrying their own narrative weight, fun and flashy game play that encourages exploration into its systems, nailing the environmental tone (for once it wasn't dark and dreary, hell you are sailing through the Aegean! One of the most beautiful places in the world), varied dialog options, and simply going from being a pretty strong merc to a literal Demi-god. I found myself loving doing side quests simply because it was a blast to clear out forts and camps using these awesome powers. The mercenary system having people chase you down inside of a fort while trying to assassinate a city leader, and then fighting them all off because you are that powerful just feels amazing. The biggest thing for me though this world feels believable. Every island has its own unique character and theme, which is exactly what the real Greek islands are like. Crete feels entirely different from Mykonos and from Chios and from Lesbos; it's different from Athens and Sparta. Each zone actually is designed around what the real life regions do. Chios is designed to be harvesting Tears of Chios, Arkadia is the bread basket, Athens does feel like the cultural center of the world. This game through and through impressed me as a player who left the series after AC3, I want to play a NG+ just like I did in Witcher 3 because this world feels engaging all the while immersing you in lore and fantasy just like an ancient Greek myth does. 10/10.
Valhalla's story is so lacklustre. I was waiting for the final showdown and final betrayal or revelation with Sigurd and it never actually happened. The whole game turned out to be a huge build-your-settlement side quest, full of running errands and fetch missions for people. Even when u play as Odin, people still have you fetching simple things for them and in general treating you like a messenger. Funny enough, not once did I really use the stealth mechanics in Valhalla-I basically walked through every camp's front gate slashing and hacking. Odyssey on the other hand made me cautious due to the mercenary system.
Agree, plus gear system was way better and the dlcs were just great, I felt sad for Brasidas when he was traped in Tartarus. Hated it when he died and Phoebe.
i really liked odyssey. i played it long enough ago for it to feel nostalgic and that's how it feels to me. the music, the characters, the tone especially is what i love. i dont want a gritty tone, i want to feel happy and smile while i play a game and that is what odyssey was to me.
After playing 15hrs of Valhalla I felt like something was off like the game was missing something. I decided to search it out on RUclips and then I found myself here. Here in this video you literally hit every single point and every single problem with this game. Watching this video I kept saying to myself “oh yup, exactly!” It’s almost like you were reading my mind lol. Great video and I subbed too 👍
I'm well over 300 hours into Odyssey. Only the 3rd chapter of the Atlantis dlc has me getting a bit bored. I actually want to go back to Greece and continue clearing the map. I played Valhalla as well and found, like many others, that the main campaign was just too damn long. It wore me out. But you know, after giving it a break for a few months and coming back to it, I'm starting to really appreciate how incredibly beautiful that world is. Scenery-wise, I think I might even prefer it to Greece. I'm doing very few quests - just exploring England and Ireland, hunting treasure and murdering NPC's for giggles. Alexios will always be my favorite protagonist, but truly Valhalla has a lot to offer as well. It's simply..... different. Very very different.
@@Jimmm11 it would’ve been very cool to see a pure Viking game focusing on the mythical and rivalling Vikings, where you aim for being the ruler of Norway, while fighting rivals yearning for the same title.
December of 2021, and I'm still playing this game. It even had a nice update a few days ago. Odyssey stands on it's own. Beautiful game (running on pc - 4k ultra settings) with tons of content. I also have Valhalla, which is another beautiful game, but Odyssey is my go-to at this point in time.
Valhalla is the worst of them all... graphical glitches and the LOD is crazy bad.. haha bushes and stones grow in front of you when you walk towards them... and i have a 3080 ti and its not spec problems.. worst assassins creed ever!

I honestly love Odyssey. I also loved the old games, but for me the thing I love most about AC is exploring the past and the characters, so I'm actually happy that the present conflict takes up so little space in the newer games. I was very conscious of the critique going into the game, but gave it a chance because Greek legends and myths is something I couldn't pass with AC. I ended up having so much fun exploring and playing and I'd love to see more like it from the AC games. This is a game I will come back to many times in the future.
@@slabpanda Objectively, the 3 latest RPG entries are very far from AC. Whether the game is good or not is an opinion, but the aspects of AC in those 3 games are weak; social stealth, movement, combat, etc. With those in mind, objectively the 3 games are simply not in line with what AC has been established to be. But again, whether or not it's good is subjective
@@zicuvalentin2251 I'm not there yet; I just bought the game in Jan 2021, but I'm catching up (643 hrs). It is the best all around game I've ever played. Between Odyssey and HZD, I probably won't need to get a new game until someone actually makes something good again; (not counting Horizon Forbidden West since that is pretty much a shoe in, I'm just not buying a console so I can play it - I'll wait the 3 years for the PC drop if they actually hold back release for that long again). Valhalla was a slog, felt like chore, and was not fun. So many games get into the 'not fun' category these days. Makes me wonder wtf these devs/designers are smoking. I had to force myself to play Valhalla and took away not a single lasting memory of it other than the 5 minute plot to facilitate the staff changing hands. This whole thing boiled down to getting rid of Layla and allowing Loki to take the staff... Why would the staff even allow this? Because the writers have lost their way or lost their damn minds... Note: Kassandra's body did not disintegrate... could there be hope or was it just simply not in the animation budget. lol
After playing Valhalla, which was my intro to AC, this helped me to decide to purchase Odyssey after I completed the main story. I 100% agree with all your points.

I started to play Valhalla this week and can say I miss so much the system that allows you to mark all nearby enemies. It feels weird. Suddenly you get surprised by a guard. Frustrating.
Odyssey is a fantastic game... it's one of those games that's going to keep going for many years and keep gaining fans. I don't even have to play it I like the artwork and so on so much I can just enjoy watching other people play it.
Odyssey was a gorgeous game that I just wished it never ended. The environments, the characters (Kassandra is my favourite AC character right along with Ezio), the music and the whole vibe made the game so immersive and just...sublime! Also me being Greek and watching all those historical figures and ancient Greek Culture i was taught in school come to life was such a special experience
@@TheRedRaven_ I've gotta say this. I've played all if them in Russian from AC3 and on. Then in some videos I caught the English dub. In a few by now, Origins and Odyssey. There's one thing in Skyrim to have some guards make fun of Arnold's Barbarian movies and his accent. It's another to freaking ruin each by having those mock Greek/Egyptian immigrants in each and every scene! The Russian version has them sound as natives it's 1000 times better! If it was only in English, I guess I'd get used to it, but I'm glad I don't have to. Again Armand Asante has an accent in Odyssey. And in all his movies. None others do. It's plain nuts. I felt it added nothing to those games, and to an immigrant fighting to pronounce English properly it's just mega annoying.
That you are a Greek means nothing. I am too, yet I absolutely loath this game. Not only is it not an AC game, it is not even historical. That is not Classic Period Ancient Greece, but a Pseudo-historical and Mythological Fantastical representation of how the West sees Ancient Greece in RPG!
I sent this video to a friend of mine and he made the point that we're getting to the age where it's easier to pick up a shooter and play for a little while instead of getting invested in too many single-player games. So when we do pick those out they need to be really high quality.

Odyssey was such an amazing game. I'm someone who doesn't like assassin's creed, but I'm someone who loves Odyssey because it's not an assassin creed game. It's truly is an open world RPG with a greek setting, which is really unique. It's a shame we will probably never see something like this again. I wish Ubisoft made a franchise off of it.
I had really low expectations for Valhalla. I played it and was blown away. I absolutely love it. I understand when you say that it ‘tries to be an AC game’, but I see it as an ode to the older games without fully returning. Can't even complete Valhalla.... And I've played and beat EVERY AC game.... Odyssey is my favorite I've played it more than any of the others. Right now I've been playing the remaster of Rogue and Black Flag.... It's dated as hell in comparison but the thing is i enjoy them more than Valhalla. And i think it's because they back tracked from what Odyssey had done trying to merge concepts of thr old with this new gameplay and it doesn't really work.... At least the way they did it. I'm so disappointed.
Yes! I played odyssey for about 150 hours but it lost its spark towards the middle and end. I absolutely HATED the copy and pasting from it. I was like “wow such a cool temple” but I saw that same temple about 40 times. I recently started Valhalla and it surpasses odyssey in pretty much ever way. I love the combat, stealth and especially how much they toned down the loot. Odyssey < Valhalla
I played Assassin's Creed 1, 2, and Brotherhood and then took a long break from the series. Odyssey brought me back and I loved both play throughs I did. The Cult being the start of the Knights Templar was a fun Antagonist

You nailed it for me, Odyssey felt impactful, I felt connected. In Valhalla, it was the opposite, I completed the main story, but didn’t care, I had no connection to anyone. There’s a section in Odyssey where watching the scenes, I got mad, I made the declaration that I would kill everyone, I still remember the scene and I haven’t played in over a year... I don’t remember the end of Valhalla, it was forgettable
Odyssey is an amazing game, my personal favorite AC title. Valhalla just felt like a step backwards and felt overall dreary. Luckily we have Fenyx Rising.
Odyssey is the only AC game I've played (still is in 2024), and it's still so much fun after putting 600 hours into it. If "Assassin's Creed" was removed from the title, AC fans would be able to see it for the gem it really is.
Odyssey really shows choices matter early on in a side mission, you are given the choice to save a family of sick villagers from being killed, if you save them then the entire island is overcome by the sickness and slowly killed as the story progress
I love Odyssey, far more than Valhalla, but I think Origins will always be #1 for me. I think people keep going into these games and expecting something they'll never get from them, leaving them disappointed. I get they want old AC back, but that's not gonna happen - and they can always go back and replay the old ones, there's plenty to choose from. The reason Origins is the favorite of the new trilogy for me is because of the clear amount of love and time put into it. It knew what it wanted to be, it knew the story it wanted to tell, and it spent the time providing that experience. The game was given enough time to be fully completed and polished before released, and I swear I haven't played such a fluid RPG ever. Dark Souls III and Sekiro fill two of my top five games of all time list, and they master so many things, but even they fail to match the level of fluidity Origins provides. Odyssey also has a clear idea of what it wants to be. While Origins was a more ground origin story of the Assassins, Odyssey was about the Isu and Templars, and because of the Isu influence in the game, it allowed the game to get more magical (especially with the DLC). My single big issue with the game is how fast it was rushed out. Even though it's clear it knows what it wants to be, it's not quite as fluid as Origins. The polish is there in some areas, but not all. The game had a much shorter development cycle, and that's probably why. Valhalla.. I dislike for many of the reasons you say. It doesn't build upon Origins and Odyssey in any meaningful way, and compromises the new identity the last two games have been trying to build by returning some of the old school AC features, which, by itself, isn't terrible. It's moreso the fact that it tried to do that without putting in the effort, and at the expense of its own identity. Origins and Odyssey still feel like AC, because they are AC. Valhalla, in my opinion, lacks that spark. It's the first game to truly not have its own identity.
I agree, origins Is the most cohesive of the 3 and I believe more effort went into the small details in origins. Plus the protagonist is better than the other 2 games
I feel like in order to really enjoy these games you gotta ignore the fact that it’s an Assassins creed game. I hadn’t touched a single one of the new ones since unity but ever since I tried Valhalla my perspectives changed and I’m actually enjoying it. I’m only like 20hrs in and have never played odyssey so I’m yet too understand why Valhalla is disliked.
Though I had fun playing AC Odyssey, It doesn't belong in this franchise. I know it does have lore additions, but they all make a mockery of AC lore up till now. So great to hear your view though!
I think they make sense as world building side stories, they would have worked better with a Rogue One style "an Assassin's Creed Story" title Odyssey is a story of how Isu Hyrids would be interpreted as demigods and the impact they would have had on the world and the lives they would have lived before the assassins and templars swore most Isu bloodlines into secrecy likewise Valhalla kind of tries to show what it's like to be a Viking in a world with Hidden Ones and Sages, though it's overall connection to lore elements is much less important, the AC lore only really appears in the first and last 2 hours of the game, so it feels a lot less connected to the franchise
AC odyssey doesn’t take away from the lore at all, it literally shows how the cult worked alongside the order of ancients and why the order of ancients outlived the cult. And it also showed that both sides have to exist, the order and the hidden ones. It’s before everything and it’s a good game, Alexios is alive for entire centuries to give Layla the staff. And the customization is just great. I hate not having control over my character in Valhalla, if they want to take away the counter kills, which they should have never done, don’t give me shit weapons like they do in Valhalla.
@@josha5933 well I mean, actually there’s quite a bit of Isu lore in the drug trips through a different lens, and Isu lore in the glitch missions, Templar formation lore at the end, we learn about the Ancient ones throughout the entire game with murdering them, along with Assassin lore with having abandoned bureaus available, along with a letter from Bayek that has some lore, and then we have lore about how Connor’s tribe got their artifact, along with we got lore about how some Isu survived the catastrophe. Kassandra has very high concentration of DNA which I guess results in her not being able to take much fall damage, I mean sages have super high concentration of Isu DNA as well we’ve seen them before, how Altair is able to have higher resistance to the apple with his, along with Eagle vision coming more naturally to those with higher concentration. We already had Connor’s daughter being able to see through the eyes of the bird for her concentration of Isu where Kassandra being that high brings some with her ability to just fall and be okay but not that much and like how that high amount affects them in having certain specific tendencies we’re they’re seen as weapons. I think the most Odyssey does a little with with Cult of Kosmos being the order before the order lore, and then the spear of leonidas. Then the rest of the lore with Darius and the staff of Hermes I don’t really count as main lore additions being DLC. For me I think Valhalla added the most lore bits set in the world of AC, where Odyssey it felt like lore bits mostly to serve the fantasy of the setting with Greek mythology with only having a piece of Eden from the start and high concentration of Isu to feel more like a Demigod, and then using a ton of artifacts of Eden just to create mythological creatures felt it was to serve the mythology fantasy as well where it does add to the lore but doesn’t feel like adding to the lore in a respectful way to the lore as much as it is to use the lore as an excuse to embrace the fantasy. But if you did include DLC theres a bit more lore there with how other Isu tried to avoid the catastrophe and like Darius a famous figure later on. Where don’t get me wrong there was plenty of points I enjoyed, but I didn’t feel like I got much out of it when it comes to an Assassin’s Creed side even though there was some just felt mostly DLC related stuff had impact on anything with it being the biggest affect on Valhalla and future games felt really cheap and frustrating makes the rest of the game feel less worth while if the bits I needed were DLC based for to become a reality Valhalla. Oh and even forgot Valhalla even adds lore to like the effects of the temples and like what Desmond’s sacrifice caused and just connects super well with three, along with like what happened to Desmond and him being the reader.

Yeah, it’s definitely the most bloated AC. Also, the gating is just extremely frustrating. You’re constantly under leveled and can’t really explore at your own leisure, because enemies two levels above you already take forever to take down.
I'm actually curious where he is in his playthrough because this review feels kinds of premature to me. Everything he says he hates in Valhalla is there in Odyssey, it just takes a while to reveal itself.
On it’s own, odyssey is a beautiful game that takes the Ancient Greek aesthetic and makes you feel like you’re in an adventure through the time. Even though it doesn’t feel like assassins creed, it’s still something you can enjoy to it’s very end
YESS!! ACO is genuinely one of my favorite games ever, i have so many fond memories of it. i played it in full for several months straight and basically 100%'d it. The way it combines history with mythology is breath taking and engaging. And the characters! They're all so charming and well done! I couldn't get enough of Alexios/Kassandra! And i FELT all of the emotional beats...so when I got Valhalla, i could barely play it. I haven't picked it up in about a year. I just can't! And I'm so glad to see another opinion like mine about this game that's so dear to me. i also LOVE how it's the origin of the Templars and it only reveals that at the end. I know a lot of people don't like it, but i think it's cool
I think your comment on "buying into the 'not a good AC game' narrative" is spot on. Every time I play Odyssey, I have a blast and am engrossed in the historical setting, which is what AC is about. Still, I'm not as critical towards Valhalla. I think I agree with the note about the long ship. It seems like a vestige of ship combat that was required. AND, the social stealth aspect could have been far more useful. Still, when I play Valhalla I have a blast and am engrossed in the setting! So I guess, they both achieve my vision of AC in different ways, and its all down to preference. This is the same for Origins too. I wonder if the social stealth and "older" ac mechanics were implemented late into the design process for Valhalla due to the reaction to Odyssey? Food for thought, because I agree that, gameplay wise, it does feel like mechanics from multiple games put together at times. As for ranking, that's tough as they're really close for personal reasons. I did my BA studying classical Greece and Rome(Ptolomaic Egypt), and my Master's studying medieval Europe. And since they all, for me, achieve my vision for AC in different ways, its hard to say which is better. 1a) Origins for desert atmosphere and world design. 1b) Odyssey for setting, gameplay, and Trireme combat(this is a huge deal for us Greek nerds, being able to cleave a ship in have was mind blowing) 1c) Valhalla for story, mood, and mythological/isu/modern day stuff and moving the story along narratively. I think its a fitting final chapter on the trilogy. I think its too early to set a hard ranking yet. Once the DLCs for V are all out, and the game is done with major patches, we can talk about that. Until then, we don't have the opportunity to play Valhalla as its "best self" like we do for Odyssey and Origins (you can argue amongst yourselves as to whether that is "ok," but Origins and to a greater extent Odyssey both changed a bit over their life cycles).
That's a great point on the old mechanics because that is how it feels to me. It feels like Ubi built Valhalla from Odyssey and added those older ideas later on instead of building the game around them. Which, since this series is almost every year, that does make sense. I'm finding it hard to give Valhalla any credit right now, so thanks for sharing this! It makes me think more on how I feel about these games

Although I saw your stream yesterday, and right now I have to say it still needs a lot of QOL updates. I think a part of me wishes we didn't have to wait a year or two to get games to be their best versions. At the same time I'm equally guilty of WANTING games to come out quickly, and being impatient for releases. As games continue to get increasingly complex, I think we can view a shorter release gap between games as an indication of a longer post-release patch cycle. It used to be that two years(between Syndicate and Origins) was enough of an extra space to finish the product. But now, for Valhalla especially, I don't think it was enough time to create a game that could launch simultaneously for Series X, S, One X, One S, and One, alongside PS4 and 5. Too many consoles, too much complexity, not enough development time. And development time will only get longer the more mechanics games have, and the more they have to run on multiple generations. I hope you keep up the work, man. I discovered your channel during the advert cycle for Valhalla, and I think your perspectives are generally pretty positive, accurate, and grounded. I don't really watch streamers, but your videos are well worth the time. Good work and enjoy your next project, whatever it is!
I just really love Odyssey and how I feel I'm moving forward, in power level and exploring the map. Valhalla feels weird because it's a mess of random stories that all take too long to do/travel between.
i personally enjoyed Odyssey way more than Valhalla, just the fact that in Odyssey you can actually loot, progress and make proper builds, meanwhile in Valhalla all you can do is get out your credit card if you want a good build. its also 2 years later and Valhallas stealth is still absolute garbage, meanwhile in Odyssey i REALLY loved the spear teleport assassination, that was SO FUN
Odyssey is by far the most complete and fun game of AC series. The naval battles are unique, and It was a big surprise that background dialogs in are in real ancient Greek

Valhalla is a hollow shell of Odysseys god-tier gameplay. after 450 hrs in Odyssey and 150 in Valhalla... I have yet to find any improvements save for fishing, and the ration system. assuming they give us one-handed swords (which will finally make the dual wielding an improvement) and cost-free pause menu accessible transmog that doesn't cost 50 silver and isn't lock to the bumbling fool blacksmith that has yet to improve the visuals which is basically his one job since stats and runes effects aren't really noticeable... Valhallas map feels so empty compared to Odyssey, everything is overpriced and the loot is so jank. seem like 7 of 10 boxes I break have no loot, the animals I hunt rarely give the skins I need to cash in at the settlement (I need antlers so I go after deer with antlers and I get holves or just leather) the stats system that allowed for acher, warrior and assassin builds is gone... the map is smaller and has less to do... more than half the armor in Valhalla is locked behind a paywall and the majority of them are big clonky and ugly. not sleek rogue theif armor. sure... its a great story and its still AC and its making me like Vikings which I never had interest in... the gameplay is so terrible compared to Odyssey. I want a reskin series of Odyssey and Unity, like Rouge and Freedom Cry were to Black Flag.

Hey Javee nice vid, I’ve only played the demo of Odyssey and did not enjoy it much but I’m sure i would enjoy it if I tried it again. I do not know if you saw my comments on your live stream but according to history, where Eivor met Alfred at the end of the Order, he is hiding and preparing for Guthrum. It would be an awesome dlc to see Guthrum get power hungry and Eivor helps Alfred at the Battle of Eddington to resume power of Wessex. Then perhaps Eivor might open his eyes to Alfred’s new Templar mentality

As a kid that grew up obsessed with Ancient Greece and Greek mythology I felt completely engrossed exploring this world. At times even truly wishing I could be a part of it. Few games have ever made me feel that way

I think the reason he feels this strongly about Odyssey being better than Valhalla is expectations. Jayvee really felt betrayed by Valhalla because of the expectations he set for it. Meanwhile he went into Odyssey with zero expectations so of course it was easier for him to find things he liked.

The progression is also rather gradual, and it’s a great game for people who just began playing. A good first introduction into RPG’s, and gaming as a whole. Like RDR2, it’s one of the few game who actually intrigued my father and impressed him when he saw me playing it.
The length of the story and all the side content and exploration possibilities make it a perfect game for retired people, or during the lockdowns. It’s the game I would take if I had an hospital stay.
I’m so glad people are finally realizing how great Odyssey is and not judging it through all that came before because I’ve loved it since it came out and I never understood why people hated it.

I love the fact that Odyssey quests are built like a greek tragedy. For anyone who truly loves this time period, it just makes everything better! Still waiting for an ancient ac which includes Carthage, Rome, Syracuse, etc...
Yes! I thought the structure of Odyssey's quests was really thematically interesting. Even the side quests, sometimes you'd choose a dialogue option that you think games want you to choose for the best outcome, but the ending isn't what you expected at all. This mode of delivering the game is what makes me really like Odyssey over Origins. I abandoned Origins after 5-6 hours because it feels like a contemporary police drama or Taken with an ancient Egypt filter. Despite being silly sometimes, Odyssey feels like it actually somewhat conveys the worldview of the ancient Greeks.

@@jprec5174 They wanted the whole spear thing in in one hand. Other being a custom weapon. It should have just been some amulet like in Witcher, and whatever you want in either hand. All the mechs were in the game for your opponents. If the game allowed true mods like Skyrim, it'd have shields and so much more it'd be insane. But Ubisoft keeps way tighter controls over their games. It's a shame.

Sometimes you have to see how rotten modern stuff can be for you to admit the greatness of what came before it. I always like the Star Wars Prequels, they were never great but I was capable of seeing the light shine through the shit. But the vast majority of people hated them altogether and proclaimed SW to be dead in the 2000s.
It took 10 years for Disney's Sequels to show them what a truly horrifying cinematic abortion is, and now the Prequels are at least acknowledge them for the good parts. If Ubisoft doesn't get their shit together in the next AC people will be defending even Syndicate, just wait for It.

Odyssey is a fine game if you just want to turn your brain off, roam around some pretty scenery, and mow down mobs of the same enemies over and over again. I have some games like that too but that's definitely not what Assassin's Creed is which is why some people have a problem with it but I'm glad you got something out of it.

I think the mistake they made was over-explaining everything rather than leaving it mysterious. Personally, I don't think a historic action/social stealth parkour puzzle box game about a clandestine group of assassins who kill tyrants to effect political change and maintain some semblance of freedom in a secret war with a competing order bent on controlling everyone ever needed the sci-fi and wonkey ancient "first civilization" stuff to tie it to the modern day or that it even needed to be tied to the modern day. The Desmond stuff is fine, I didn't mind it, but most of the time found myself just wishing to get back to the guy in the cool flowing robes leaping off buildings to stab evil people in the neck and save the day.

Being a huge greek history & mythos nerd since I was a kid, playing AC Odyssey was basically a dream come true, roming ancient Greece and exploring towns that I read about in books, and even if they were fictionnal within the setup of the game, meeting and talking with people like Perikles, Leonidas, Socrates and Herodotes was truly very nice.
And I wont lie, the modern day / ISU story is very interesting more than ever in my opinion, I always liked seeing and reading about ancient civilization/technology and all things "alien" to humankind.
And I know that a lot of people didn't like Odyssey as an AC game (even hating on it) but somehow I'm very glad that 2-3 years after, people are also realizing how good of a game it is on its own. Still not perfect, but very enjoyable and good at what it does.
Edit : and I forgot to mention the music and greek sea shanty, this part gets a 10/10 for me

@@Blatantblatheist Prometheus tries to tell you straight Greek mythology. Then Zeus goes in, and gives HIS take on it. It's freaking awesome. It plays a lot like AC too. Some skills are straight out of Odyssey you can just tell LOL.

At this point, the only difference between Jackson and most of us other purists is that unlike us, he has accepted that AC will never be the same and has moved on. We should all probably do the same if we want to keep our sanity.

I honestly absolutely love Odyssey not because it’s a “good ac game” because it isn’t really an ac game, I love it because of the environment, characters, setting, mythic items, lore and mythical creatures I love how it’s an RPG and it’s just so good I can’t get over it.

I loved Valhalla and Odyssey because it was RPG and you could customize your character to an extent. Also like the fact that it’s not just spamming a button anymore. When I played AC lll and AC black flag I was blown away at the realism and history, for example, I always imagine how the Boston massacre look like and then they show it in the game, which was cool to see.

i loved ac odyssey SO MUCH, i love the athens vs spartans, i loved the monsters, the historical accuration, the world is so beautiful. odyssey executed all gameplay styles flawlessly in my opinion. i love it. my top 2 AC game alongside unity.

I hated Unity...Not in any order my top 3 are AC3, Black Flag and Odyssey. Rogue is honestly a VERY close top 3 as well.
@@smoothyodaproductions4373 shit I had issues keeping my armor and weapons leveled up because I blew through the leveling so fast even with no XP boosts. I also did as many side quests as I could to earn gold...hunting pirates was a favorite past time and still is.
I just love how RESPONSIVE Odyssey is. The movement, the combat, the stealth, everything.
God, I felt that in AC3 they gave me. WTF is this, he moves like some junk robot. Only running is OK. He fights clumsy, the counter is junk, lots of times you don't know you've done it right. Firearms are crap to use too. He climbs stupidly as I felt in the theater already. Black flag fixed it all a bit, but lots of those same flaws are right there. Origins/Odyssey were amazing about how much BETTER they were, and at stealth too dang it.

Odyssey should have been its own game! The cities, towns, villages, temples, fortresses etc is as close as you can get to being in ancient Greece....stunning example of the ancient world. I just wander around, do some missions.....and wander some more....Sparta today....Athens tomorrow....but hey, that's me.

Finally people started to appreciate Odyssey more. I played Odyssey for over 400 hours and enjoyed every minute of it.

Odyssey was the first AC game that I was really invested in and I remember right in the first few hours being blown away by the word and the atmosphere that they've created. I haven't been this excited and happy about playing a video game since I was a primary school kid. I specifically remember leaving Kephalonia and going into the open word for the first time and feeling how romantic, inviting and explorative the whole world feels. Everything from the music to the lush environments and the dose of humor. One of the very first places I happened to go to was the place where Cyclops was hiding and finding out there's a big mystery behind his cave and I got the sense of how large and mythical this game is and it hasn't disappointed me in my whole 300 hours of playing, there was always something new to gasp at. If people were able to look past the "assassin" aspect, they would see that the game was absolutely amazing for what it was trying to be and they executed it perfectly
Even i loved the game but stopped playing after the level required for the next mission was too high (in the mission you get at the Pirate island) so I had to unfortunately stop playing
I swear to God, everything you just said perfectly describes my first experience with the game as well. Even down to stumbling upon the Cyclops early on. I still argue that this is AT LEAST the second funnest game in the franchise. Not the second best, in my opinion, but in terms of a fun, memorable, exciting gameplay experience, Odyssey excels like almost no other entry in the franchise does.

I have put well over 140 hours into Odyssey as a whole. It was during the pandemic when I was on unemployment for about 6 months. I did everything I could, finished the main story, took on a ton of contracts, finished so much side content, beat all of the dlc's and I still have so much more to find and do. It's literally my favorite assassins creed to date. And I can't wait to play it even more every day.

AC ODYSSEY is the best game ever made. The reason it doesn't vote higher on lists is because gameplay and fun are well over looked in general in all rankings of all games.

When the pandemic hit I started Odyssey and was blown away. After over 50 hours of play I decided to try Origins as so many spoke of how great it was and also ancient Egypt fascinates me. It was good but imo doesn't compare to Odyssey. The landscape got surprisingly boring rather quickly. Maybe had I played it before Odyssey I would have been more impressed.
Then I tried Valhalla, expecting a more polished game build on the back of Odyssey, it too disappointed in comparison. The combat mechanics didn't feel as smooth to me and I'd agree with all your points about the sailing experience.
Overall Odyssey is polished, engaging and completely engrossing. Whenever I want to play a game that doesn't include multi-player this is my go to. The most immersing game I've played to date. If you have to pick one, I'd highly recommend this be it!
Origins is better. I've said it multiple times, Odyssey has stunning view and Origins too where the vast world and vibrant colors carry the whole game and Odyssey's fighting mechanics are easier than Origins being more polished and also more RPG-friendly but Odyssey sucked with the story.
I don't know how to say this. I'm a history buff and I do like how both games glossed over historical people who made significant changes to society and their culture like Sokrates in Odyssey and Cleopatra & Caesar in Origins but when it comes to actual history tie-ups to the ever changing landscape and the purpose of assassinations which ties back to the name of the game, Origins is better. Like when you play Origins, you help both Caesar & Cleopatra with their ambitions like how you helped George Washington in ACIII in beating the Red Coats whereas in Origins, you're beating Ptolemy XIV's loyalists and that helps the historical aspect of events. In Odyssey, you met Perikles who was the head-of-state for Athens at that time and you don't do much for his ambitions too. It's much like a "hi-bye" affair. Isn't engaging.
Also, in storytelling wise, Origins is better too DESPITE being the 1st game of the trilogy series. It ends with a clean cut and that's it. It gives you an ending that what you want to have and what the protagonist has been planning the entire game has been set. Odyssey is just a mess and a half with multiple endings that doesn't end. You can save your that Spartan "Lion" dad (Whatever his name is...) and still do the ending where you kill last of the Ancients. It doesn't bog or tie it together and yet it's still an ending. Makes no sense at all that it isn't linear.
I'm not bashing the game for bad mechanics as I like Odyssey's mechanics and various side quest that does nothing much to the main storyline but god damn how useless the main quests is that it doesn't do much to the story or ends it on a high.

I really enjoyed 'Origins' but the entire time I was playing it I kept thinking: 'this game would be amazing, if only it had dialogue options and actual choices with consequence'. Then, 'Odyssey' came out and gave me exactly what I was asking for, with gameplay that was so good I actually enjoy combat - and I almost never enjoy combat in games. I had feared, initially, that I'd be bored with Greece because - as an American - I have been inundated with Greek history and mythology all my life; as it turned out, however, it was done so well that it rekindled my interest.
I bought 'Valhalla' purely on the weight of my experience with 'Odyssey' and found it to be all the things I'd feared Odyssey would be - too familiar and soulless in its delivery.
Been playing this game for almost 4 years now since launch, well over 700 hours put into 6/7 New Game+ playthroughs, I still love this game. It’s not perfect, but it doesn’t need to be. Its story is charming and emotional, the gameplay isn’t deep but still very fun, and everytime I’ve done a play through I always find something new that I haven’t seen before, whether that be a quest I missed, some dialogue that I hadn’t heard or choices that lead to whole quests that I hadn’t played yet. People can moan that it’s not a good Assassins Creed game, but I don’t care because it’s a fun, mythical Greek RPG that knows what it wants to be, unlike Valhalla
For me, it has the best story of any AC game, and interesting side quests

the biggest issue I have with Valhalla's stealth system is that I can't even use my bow in bushes because I'll automatically be seen. I could do that as much as I wanted in Odyssey, so I was surprised that I could no longer pull that off in valhalla.

I agree that mechanics was really Awesome, I really had a lot of fun with it. Shame that you cannot quick Mercenaries of the cliffs etc... because they are so powered which I understand why, but some times would have been nice to have the ability to make them fly with the spartan quick, especially when you are surrounded by 5 to 8 mercenaries + the whole fortress army
I love Odyssey. I've spent the last few weeks replaying it. So much content, beautiful areas to explore, great stealth mechanics, awesome armor. So much to enjoy. And Kassandra is bomb. Good stuff.

best advice i can give? look up. half the time the door is barred, there'll be a gap above that you can climb into, or a thatched roof spot you have to shoot down and THEN climb into. otherwise yea its basically 'find the hole in the building to shoot the barred spot'

I love odyssey for the historic realism and setting. You literally have a education mode in odyssey to teach you about history. All this while being a huge scaled remade of the area. It could be I'm more familiar with greek stories and knew most of the characters before hand and seeing them was great.

It’s 2023 and idc what ppl say about this game. The world is gorgeous!! The enemies are smart and whenever you shoot an arrow at them, they go to the location where they were shot from and they’ll still keep looking around even if you’re not caught. I like how you don’t get caught right away by enemies. This is something we need in Mirage.
1. Odyssey: For its massive land/water map, loot/progression system, story/character arc, fascinating setting, and faction battles.
2. Origins: Same reasons as Odyssey, just no (permanent) ship
3. Valhalla: It's okay, but I enjoyed the Ancient Egypt/Greek settings more. Still gets an 'A' in my book.

I just finished my first ever playthrough in 2022, and I must say this game blew my expectations out of the water. Having been a massive Witcher 3 fan you can see Ubisoft took a lot of notes from that game and implemented them here. Side quests actually carrying their own narrative weight, fun and flashy game play that encourages exploration into its systems, nailing the environmental tone (for once it wasn't dark and dreary, hell you are sailing through the Aegean! One of the most beautiful places in the world), varied dialog options, and simply going from being a pretty strong merc to a literal Demi-god. I found myself loving doing side quests simply because it was a blast to clear out forts and camps using these awesome powers. The mercenary system having people chase you down inside of a fort while trying to assassinate a city leader, and then fighting them all off because you are that powerful just feels amazing. The biggest thing for me though this world feels believable. Every island has its own unique character and theme, which is exactly what the real Greek islands are like. Crete feels entirely different from Mykonos and from Chios and from Lesbos; it's different from Athens and Sparta. Each zone actually is designed around what the real life regions do. Chios is designed to be harvesting Tears of Chios, Arkadia is the bread basket, Athens does feel like the cultural center of the world.
This game through and through impressed me as a player who left the series after AC3, I want to play a NG+ just like I did in Witcher 3 because this world feels engaging all the while immersing you in lore and fantasy just like an ancient Greek myth does. 10/10.

Valhalla's story is so lacklustre. I was waiting for the final showdown and final betrayal or revelation with Sigurd and it never actually happened. The whole game turned out to be a huge build-your-settlement side quest, full of running errands and fetch missions for people. Even when u play as Odin, people still have you fetching simple things for them and in general treating you like a messenger. Funny enough, not once did I really use the stealth mechanics in Valhalla-I basically walked through every camp's front gate slashing and hacking. Odyssey on the other hand made me cautious due to the mercenary system.
Agree, plus gear system was way better and the dlcs were just great, I felt sad for Brasidas when he was traped in Tartarus. Hated it when he died and Phoebe.

i really liked odyssey. i played it long enough ago for it to feel nostalgic and that's how it feels to me. the music, the characters, the tone especially is what i love. i dont want a gritty tone, i want to feel happy and smile while i play a game and that is what odyssey was to me.
Normally, I do want a grittier tone, but 'Odyssey' stole my heart, regardless.

After playing 15hrs of Valhalla I felt like something was off like the game was missing something. I decided to search it out on RUclips and then I found myself here. Here in this video you literally hit every single point and every single problem with this game. Watching this video I kept saying to myself “oh yup, exactly!” It’s almost like you were reading my mind lol. Great video and I subbed too 👍
I'm well over 300 hours into Odyssey. Only the 3rd chapter of the Atlantis dlc has me getting a bit bored. I actually want to go back to Greece and continue clearing the map. I played Valhalla as well and found, like many others, that the main campaign was just too damn long. It wore me out. But you know, after giving it a break for a few months and coming back to it, I'm starting to really appreciate how incredibly beautiful that world is. Scenery-wise, I think I might even prefer it to Greece. I'm doing very few quests - just exploring England and Ireland, hunting treasure and murdering NPC's for giggles. Alexios will always be my favorite protagonist, but truly Valhalla has a lot to offer as well. It's simply..... different. Very very different.

December of 2021, and I'm still playing this game. It even had a nice update a few days ago. Odyssey stands on it's own. Beautiful game (running on pc - 4k ultra settings) with tons of content. I also have Valhalla, which is another beautiful game, but Odyssey is my go-to at this point in time.

Valhalla is the worst of them all... graphical glitches and the LOD is crazy bad.. haha bushes and stones grow in front of you when you walk towards them... and i have a 3080 ti and its not spec problems.. worst assassins creed ever!

I honestly love Odyssey. I also loved the old games, but for me the thing I love most about AC is exploring the past and the characters, so I'm actually happy that the present conflict takes up so little space in the newer games. I was very conscious of the critique going into the game, but gave it a chance because Greek legends and myths is something I couldn't pass with AC. I ended up having so much fun exploring and playing and I'd love to see more like it from the AC games. This is a game I will come back to many times in the future.

@@slabpanda Objectively, the 3 latest RPG entries are very far from AC. Whether the game is good or not is an opinion, but the aspects of AC in those 3 games are weak; social stealth, movement, combat, etc.
With those in mind, objectively the 3 games are simply not in line with what AC has been established to be. But again, whether or not it's good is subjective

@@zicuvalentin2251 I'm not there yet; I just bought the game in Jan 2021, but I'm catching up (643 hrs). It is the best all around game I've ever played. Between Odyssey and HZD, I probably won't need to get a new game until someone actually makes something good again; (not counting Horizon Forbidden West since that is pretty much a shoe in, I'm just not buying a console so I can play it - I'll wait the 3 years for the PC drop if they actually hold back release for that long again).
Valhalla was a slog, felt like chore, and was not fun. So many games get into the 'not fun' category these days. Makes me wonder wtf these devs/designers are smoking. I had to force myself to play Valhalla and took away not a single lasting memory of it other than the 5 minute plot to facilitate the staff changing hands. This whole thing boiled down to getting rid of Layla and allowing Loki to take the staff... Why would the staff even allow this? Because the writers have lost their way or lost their damn minds...
Note: Kassandra's body did not disintegrate... could there be hope or was it just simply not in the animation budget. lol

I started to play Valhalla this week and can say I miss so much the system that allows you to mark all nearby enemies. It feels weird. Suddenly you get surprised by a guard. Frustrating.
In older ac games it's same system like in Valhalla to see your enemies 😅

In Valhalla you have an ability that marks all enemies in a radius around you. You don't even have to use the bird for that.
I never even use the marking system and doing fine. Just have to go slow. Use whistles to draw the guards when ure hiding.

Odyssey is a fantastic game... it's one of those games that's going to keep going for many years and keep gaining fans. I don't even have to play it I like the artwork and so on so much I can just enjoy watching other people play it.
Odyssey was a gorgeous game that I just wished it never ended. The environments, the characters (Kassandra is my favourite AC character right along with Ezio), the music and the whole vibe made the game so immersive and just...sublime! Also me being Greek and watching all those historical figures and ancient Greek Culture i was taught in school come to life was such a special experience
I love Kassandras voice actor and her dialogue. Alexios voice work is just meh
@@TheRedRaven_ I've gotta say this. I've played all if them in Russian from AC3 and on. Then in some videos I caught the English dub. In a few by now, Origins and Odyssey. There's one thing in Skyrim to have some guards make fun of Arnold's Barbarian movies and his accent. It's another to freaking ruin each by having those mock Greek/Egyptian immigrants in each and every scene! The Russian version has them sound as natives it's 1000 times better! If it was only in English, I guess I'd get used to it, but I'm glad I don't have to. Again Armand Asante has an accent in Odyssey. And in all his movies. None others do. It's plain nuts. I felt it added nothing to those games, and to an immigrant fighting to pronounce English properly it's just mega annoying.
Nearly every mission is stupidly boring and repetitive. The voice actors are horrible and somehow they mention to f up the in game combat.

That you are a Greek means nothing. I am too, yet I absolutely loath this game. Not only is it not an AC game, it is not even historical. That is not Classic Period Ancient Greece, but a Pseudo-historical and Mythological Fantastical representation of how the West sees Ancient Greece in RPG!
I sent this video to a friend of mine and he made the point that we're getting to the age where it's easier to pick up a shooter and play for a little while instead of getting invested in too many single-player games. So when we do pick those out they need to be really high quality.

Odyssey was such an amazing game. I'm someone who doesn't like assassin's creed, but I'm someone who loves Odyssey because it's not an assassin creed game. It's truly is an open world RPG with a greek setting, which is really unique. It's a shame we will probably never see something like this again. I wish Ubisoft made a franchise off of it.
I had really low expectations for Valhalla. I played it and was blown away. I absolutely love it. I understand when you say that it ‘tries to be an AC game’, but I see it as an ode to the older games without fully returning. I completely respect your opinions about the game and respect them, but I just wanted to share mine :)

Can't even complete Valhalla.... And I've played and beat EVERY AC game.... Odyssey is my favorite I've played it more than any of the others. Right now I've been playing the remaster of Rogue and Black Flag.... It's dated as hell in comparison but the thing is i enjoy them more than Valhalla. And i think it's because they back tracked from what Odyssey had done trying to merge concepts of thr old with this new gameplay and it doesn't really work.... At least the way they did it. Yes! I played odyssey for about 150 hours but it lost its spark towards the middle and end. I absolutely HATED the copy and pasting from it. I was like “wow such a cool temple” but I saw that same temple about 40 times. I recently started Valhalla and it surpasses odyssey in pretty much ever way. I love the combat, stealth and especially how much they toned down the loot. Odyssey < Valhalla
I played Assassin's Creed 1, 2, and Brotherhood and then took a long break from the series. Odyssey brought me back and I loved both play throughs I did. The Cult being the start of the Knights Templar was a fun Antagonist

You nailed it for me, Odyssey felt impactful, I felt connected. In Valhalla, it was the opposite, I completed the main story, but didn’t care, I had no connection to anyone. There’s a section in Odyssey where watching the scenes, I got mad, I made the declaration that I would kill everyone, I still remember the scene and I haven’t played in over a year... Odyssey is an amazing game, my personal favorite AC title. Valhalla just felt like a step backwards and felt overall dreary. Luckily we have Fenyx Rising.
Odyssey is the only AC game I've played (still is in 2024), and it's still so much fun after putting 600 hours into it. If "Assassin's Creed" was removed from the title, AC fans would be able to see it for the gem it really is.
Odyssey really shows choices matter early on in a side mission, you are given the choice to save a family of sick villagers from being killed, if you save them then the entire island is overcome by the sickness and slowly killed as the story progress
I have not heard the word "Valhalla" so many times. You should have called the video "Why I like Odyssey more than Valhalla".
I love Odyssey, far more than Valhalla, but I think Origins will always be #1 for me. I think people keep going into these games and expecting something they'll never get from them, leaving them disappointed. I get they want old AC back, but that's not gonna happen - and they can always go back and replay the old ones, there's plenty to choose from.
The reason Origins is the favorite of the new trilogy for me is because of the clear amount of love and time put into it. It knew what it wanted to be, it knew the story it wanted to tell, and it spent the time providing that experience. The game was given enough time to be fully completed and polished before released, and I swear I haven't played such a fluid RPG ever. Dark Souls III and Sekiro fill two of my top five games of all time list, and they master so many things, but even they fail to match the level of fluidity Origins provides.
Odyssey also has a clear idea of what it wants to be. While Origins was a more ground origin story of the Assassins, Odyssey was about the Isu and Templars, and because of the Isu influence in the game, it allowed the game to get more magical (especially with the DLC). My single big issue with the game is how fast it was rushed out. Even though it's clear it knows what it wants to be, it's not quite as fluid as Origins. The polish is there in some areas, but not all. The game had a much shorter development cycle, and that's probably why.
Valhalla.. I dislike for many of the reasons you say. It doesn't build upon Origins and Odyssey in any meaningful way, and compromises the new identity the last two games have been trying to build by returning some of the old school AC features, which, by itself, isn't terrible. It's moreso the fact that it tried to do that without putting in the effort, and at the expense of its own identity. Origins and Odyssey still feel like AC, because they are AC. Valhalla, in my opinion, lacks that spark. It's the first game to truly not have its own identity.
I agree, origins Is the most cohesive of the 3 and I believe more effort went into the small details in origins. Plus the protagonist is better than the other 2 games
I feel like in order to really enjoy these games you gotta ignore the fact that it’s an Assassins creed game. I hadn’t touched a single one of the new ones since unity but ever since I tried Valhalla my perspectives changed and I’m actually enjoying it. I’m only like 20hrs in and have never played odyssey so I’m yet too understand why Valhalla is disliked.

I think they make sense as world building side stories, they would have worked better with a Rogue One style "an Assassin's Creed Story" title
Odyssey is a story of how Isu Hyrids would be interpreted as demigods and the impact they would have had on the world and the lives they would have lived before the assassins and templars swore most Isu bloodlines into secrecy
likewise Valhalla kind of tries to show what it's like to be a Viking in a world with Hidden Ones and Sages, though it's overall connection to lore elements is much less important, the AC lore only really appears in the first and last 2 hours of the game, so it feels a lot less connected to the franchise

AC odyssey doesn’t take away from the lore at all, it literally shows how the cult worked alongside the order of ancients and why the order of ancients outlived the cult.
And it also showed that both sides have to exist, the order and the hidden ones.
It’s before everything and it’s a good game, Alexios is alive for entire centuries to give Layla the staff.
And the customization is just great. I hate not having control over my character in Valhalla, if they want to take away the counter kills, which they should have never done, don’t give me shit weapons like they do in Valhalla.
@@josha5933 well I mean, actually there’s quite a bit of Isu lore in the drug trips through a different lens, and Isu lore in the glitch missions, Templar formation lore at the end, we learn about the Ancient ones throughout the entire game with murdering them, along with Assassin lore with having abandoned bureaus available, along with a letter from Bayek that has some lore, and then we have lore about how Connor’s tribe got their artifact, along with we got lore about how some Isu survived the catastrophe. Kassandra has very high concentration of DNA which I guess results in her not being able to take much fall damage, I mean sages have super high concentration of Isu DNA as well we’ve seen them before, how Altair is able to have higher resistance to the apple with his, along with Eagle vision coming more naturally to those with higher concentration. We already had Connor’s daughter being able to see through the eyes of the bird for her concentration of Isu where Kassandra being that high brings some with her ability to just fall and be okay but not that much and like how that high amount affects them in having certain specific tendencies we’re they’re seen as weapons. I think the most Odyssey does a little with with Cult of Kosmos being the order before the order lore, and then the spear of leonidas. Then the rest of the lore with Darius and the staff of Hermes I don’t really count as main lore additions being DLC. For me I think Valhalla added the most lore bits set in the world of AC, where Odyssey it felt like lore bits mostly to serve the fantasy of the setting with Greek mythology with only having a piece of Eden from the start and high concentration of Isu to feel more like a Demigod, and then using a ton of artifacts of Eden just to create mythological creatures felt it was to serve the mythology fantasy as well where it does add to the lore but doesn’t feel like adding to the lore in a respectful way to the lore as much as it is to use the lore as an excuse to embrace the fantasy. But if you did include DLC theres a bit more lore there with how other Isu tried to avoid the catastrophe and like Darius a famous figure later on. Where don’t get me wrong there was plenty of points I enjoyed, but I didn’t feel like I got much out of it when it comes to an Assassin’s Creed side even though there was some just felt mostly DLC related stuff had impact on anything with it being the biggest affect on Valhalla and future games felt really cheap and frustrating makes the rest of the game feel less worth while if the bits I needed were DLC based for to become a reality Valhalla. Oh and even forgot Valhalla even adds lore to like the effects of the temples and like what Desmond’s sacrifice caused and just connects super well with three, along with like what happened to Desmond and him being the reader.

On it’s own, odyssey is a beautiful game that takes the Ancient Greek aesthetic and makes you feel like you’re in an adventure through the time. Even though it doesn’t feel like assassins creed, it’s still something you can enjoy to it’s very end

YESS!! ACO is genuinely one of my favorite games ever, i have so many fond memories of it. i played it in full for several months straight and basically 100%'d it. The way it combines history with mythology is breath taking and engaging. And the characters! They're all so charming and well done! I couldn't get enough of Alexios/Kassandra! And i FELT all of the emotional beats...so when I got Valhalla, i could barely play it. I haven't picked it up in about a year. I just can't! And I'm so glad to see another opinion like mine about this game that's so dear to me.
i also LOVE how it's the origin of the Templars and it only reveals that at the end. I know a lot of people don't like it, but i think it's cool
I think your comment on "buying into the 'not a good AC game' narrative" is spot on. Every time I play Odyssey, I have a blast and am engrossed in the historical setting, which is what AC is about. Still, I'm not as critical towards Valhalla. I think I agree with the note about the long ship. It seems like a vestige of ship combat that was required. AND, the social stealth aspect could have been far more useful. Still, when I play Valhalla I have a blast and am engrossed in the setting! So I guess, they both achieve my vision of AC in different ways, and its all down to preference. This is the same for Origins too.
I wonder if the social stealth and "older" ac mechanics were implemented late into the design process for Valhalla due to the reaction to Odyssey? Food for thought, because I agree that, gameplay wise, it does feel like mechanics from multiple games put together at times.
As for ranking, that's tough as they're really close for personal reasons. I did my BA studying classical Greece and Rome(Ptolomaic Egypt), and my Master's studying medieval Europe. And since they all, for me, achieve my vision for AC in different ways, its hard to say which is better.
1a) Origins for desert atmosphere and world design.
1b) Odyssey for setting, gameplay, and Trireme combat(this is a huge deal for us Greek nerds, being able to cleave a ship in have was mind blowing)
1c) Valhalla for story, mood, and mythological/isu/modern day stuff and moving the story along narratively. I think its a fitting final chapter on the trilogy.
I think its too early to set a hard ranking yet. Once the DLCs for V are all out, and the game is done with major patches, we can talk about that. Until then, we don't have the opportunity to play Valhalla as its "best self" like we do for Odyssey and Origins (you can argue amongst yourselves as to whether that is "ok," but Origins and to a greater extent Odyssey both changed a bit over their life cycles).
That's a great point on the old mechanics because that is how it feels to me. It feels like Ubi built Valhalla from Odyssey and added those older ideas later on instead of building the game around them. Which, since this series is almost every year, that does make sense.
I'm finding it hard to give Valhalla any credit right now, so thanks for sharing this! It makes me think more on how I feel about these games
@@jayveeeee I hope when you do your "Valhalla in 2023" video, it will have been fixed enough to go back and enjoy. Although I saw your stream yesterday, and right now I have to say it still needs a lot of QOL updates. I think a part of me wishes we didn't have to wait a year or two to get games to be their best versions. At the same time I'm equally guilty of WANTING games to come out quickly, and being impatient for releases. As games continue to get increasingly complex, I think we can view a shorter release gap between games as an indication of a longer post-release patch cycle. It used to be that two years(between Syndicate and Origins) was enough of an extra space to finish the product. But now, for Valhalla especially, I don't think it was enough time to create a game that could launch simultaneously for Series X, S, One X, One S, and One, alongside PS4 and 5. Too many consoles, too much complexity, not enough development time. And development time will only get longer the more mechanics games have, and the more they have to run on multiple generations.
I hope you keep up the work, man. I discovered your channel during the advert cycle for Valhalla, and I think your perspectives are generally pretty positive, accurate, and grounded. I don't really watch streamers, but your videos are well worth the time. Good work and enjoy your next project, whatever it is!
I just really love Odyssey and how I feel I'm moving forward, in power level and exploring the map. Valhalla feels weird because it's a mess of random stories that all take too long to do/travel between.
i personally enjoyed Odyssey way more than Valhalla, just the fact that in Odyssey you can actually loot, progress and make proper builds, meanwhile in Valhalla all you can do is get out your credit card if you want a good build.
its also 2 years later and Valhallas stealth is still absolute garbage, meanwhile in Odyssey i REALLY loved the spear teleport assassination, that was SO FUN

Valhalla is a hollow shell of Odysseys god-tier gameplay.
after 450 hrs in Odyssey and 150 in Valhalla... I have yet to find any improvements save for fishing, and the ration system.
assuming they give us one-handed swords (which will finally make the dual wielding an improvement) and cost-free pause menu accessible transmog that doesn't cost 50 silver and isn't lock to the bumbling fool blacksmith that has yet to improve the visuals which is basically his one job since stats and runes effects aren't really noticeable...
Valhallas map feels so empty compared to Odyssey,

seem like 7 of 10 boxes I break have no loot, the animals I hunt rarely give the skins I need to cash in at the settlement (I need antlers so I go after deer with antlers and I get holves or just leather)
the stats system that allowed for acher, warrior and assassin builds is gone...
the map is smaller and has less to do...
more than half the armor in Valhalla is locked behind a paywall and the majority of them are big clonky and ugly. not sleek rogue theif armor.
