Assassin's Creed Rogue is an action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Sofia and published by Ubisoft.[1] It is the seventh major installment in the Assassin's Creed series, and is set between 2013's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and 2012's Assassin's Creed III. It also has ties to Assassin's Creed Unity, which was released on the same day as Rogue. It is the last Assassin's Creed game to be developed for the seventh generation of consoles, being released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in November 2014,[1][2] and for Microsoft Windows in March 2015.[3][4] A remastered version of the game was released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in March 2018.[5] It was also released on the Nintendo Switch as part of The Rebel Collection alongside Black Flag in December 2019.[6]
The plot is set in a fictional history of real-world events and follows the millennia-old struggle between the Assassins, who fight to preserve peace and free will, and the Templars, who desire peace through control. The framing story is set during the 21st century and depicts the player as an employee of Abstergo Industries (a company used as a front by the modern-da the Templars). The main plot is set during the French and Indian War from 1752 to 1760, and follows Shay Patrick Cormac, an Irish American Assassin-turned-Templar who hunts down former members of his Brotherhood after becoming disillusioned with their tactics. Gameplay in Rogue is very similar to that of Black Flag with a mixture of ship-based naval exploration and third-person land-based exploration, though some new features have been added.
Upon release, Rogue received a mixed reception, with praise directed at the game's twist on the traditional formula by playing as a Templar, the mature storyline, complex protagonist, and sophisticated depiction of the Assassin-Templar conflict, as well as the additions to the franchise's lore and the naval warfare gameplay. However, it was criticized for failing to innovate the series' formula and its similarities to Black Flag.
Assassin's Creed Rogue is an action-adventure, stealth game set in an open world environment and played from a third-person perspective. Naval aspects from previous games return with the player controlling Shay's ship, the Morrigan. The Morrigan has a shallower draft compared to Edward Kenway's Jackdaw from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, allowing for river travel.[1][7] New features include new ship-based weapons such as releasing an oil slick which can then be ignited, Puckle guns, and the ability for enemies to board the Morrigan during ship-to-ship combat. The arctic environment also adds features to naval gameplay and exploration, as certain icebergs can be rammed with an icebreaker.[8] However, the underwater diving missions featured in Black Flag do not exist as swimming in the North Atlantic causes the player's health to rapidly deplete due to the frigid water, though Shay is able to swim in the more southerly waters of the 'river valley' area.[9]

I really am enjoying this series, you're fair with your criticism and compliments, you call yourself a fanboy/purist and yet, you're not painful to hear talking :)
I'll be looking forward for whatever you got under your sleeve
Did you play the Remaster or original?
Back when the games didn’t need to be bloated. Good times
Now you gotta review the chronicles trilogy. Which look cool and are their own unique assassins creed experience

The only 3 games I’ve never finished. Every time I decide to give them ago... 10mins in, and I just think of 10-20 games I’d rather play.
I guess I never realised how short the story campaign was because I spent hours upon hours doing side stuff in the open world between missions.
Getting the 11th century armor and fully upgrading the morrigen is always my top priority
@@azariah_kyras yessir 🥶
when he said he completed the story in 7 hours I was surprised since it took me 30 hours lmao
Revelations or Brotherhood were not much longer.
I still haven't completed it. I got to take down that last legendary ship before I allow myself to finish the story.
Shay's robes aren't commended enough. His first is simple enough to blend but still cool, and then his Templar robe is just downright badass.
Yeah, too bad they baited us with the hood. Like yeah, I understand why they didn’t include it in the game since it’s a Templar outfit, but then why show us the hood in the cover/promotional material? Really felt like they were baiting us because the hood made the outfit look cooler.
My favourite is the Assassin Killer outfit and Arctic Explorer
@@cooldude2027 im more pissed with them baiting us with the rifle that doesnt shoot actual bullets lmao
@@cooldude2027 Not exactly. He does have the hood in the beginning, but he drops it after getting the basic Templar outfit
@@RickyIcecubes You’re taking about his Assassin outfit that he wore when he was a member of the brotherhood. I’m talking about his Templar outfit which in promotional material (like the thumbnail of this video) show us a version of this outfit with a hood, which isn’t in the actual game
Rogue is one of my all time favorite games. It also gives a whole new meaning to a line that achillies says to connor when they argue in assassins creed 3. "In your haste to save the world boy, take care you don't destroy it." I played this before I played AC 3 so it was a huge shocker to hear that line even though the game came out before rogue.
same
AC 3 was great like that. There was also a line by Haytham in the theater saying his father uses to take him to the play but he doesn't remember it much. This referenced the ending of Black Flag
That’s a good point. I just finished replaying Rogue and that hit home
This game is so underrated. No but in all seriousness. I was so tired of this formula and engine at that point, yet now I realize you don't know what you'll miss until it's gone :(
@kshamwhizzle all they have to do is increase the gap between two games like 3 to 4 years
@kshamwhizzle Because it isn't, way to RPG, massive enemy health pools, xp boosters, removal of 1 hit kills with hidden blade, went way to much towards being fantasy, free running got gimped. Like wtf happened. AC should have originally died when AC 3 came out, that was the plan, but Ubisoft decided to beat a dead horse, they made some good ones a while after, 4 and Rogue were good, but after that, what the fuck happened. AC used to be one of my favourite franchises, now it's nothing to me how they've butchered it
@kshamwhizzle most do but some of us love it all, i hated syndicate tho just couldn't get into
@kshamwhizzle I already have m8, left AC behind many years ago
@kshamwhizzle Cus I say it as it is, others need to know how crap the new shit is compared to the old games on average
Rogue is still one of my favorite games to date. So nostalgic.
Its not my favourote but one of them. The story was good and its the most fun AC to play after the stort but its just my opinion
It sucks.

I wonder what would happen if Shay chose to side with neither side, instead assassinating targets from both Templars and the Assassins. That could've been awesome.
That wouldve made more sense than being a templar tbh. He wants to take them both down because they kill innocents (only colonial assassins did but still) and because he sees their endless war as pointless and unnecessary.
exacly what i Think it was going to be when i play the game . But i was wrong...
In the shadowy world of Assassins and Templars joining none would be suicide.
@@roffels11-gamingandhistory69 yea but you're forgetting plot armor
@@roffels11-gamingandhistory69 Considering Shay's prior assassin experience, training, and his plot armor he probably could have gotten a crew and stolen his ship back. And it would be a lot easier than you think since the colonial assassin's literally think he's dead anyway.

A lot of people probably know this but after that first temple place it no longer says you'll be desynchronized for killing civilians

One small thing I thought was cool is that you could actually get reverse boarded, pretty cool experience the first time it happened
I forgot about that
It was fun the first time it happened for sure, as it was new, but then it just got annoying, so I went out of my way to make sure brigs could never ram me from the front

@@Z4rius its all good they died for the empire
It had one of the most interesting plots in the whole series
The dark shady side of the assassin's and why there are no real heroes in this big story
It kind of brings light to something Shaun says in AC2 I believe “We’re assassins, ya know, we assassinate people. The Templars are worse yes, but we aren’t the good guys here.” I’m paraphrasing but it once again presses the fact both sides are in the grey.
Keep in mind that only Achille's brotherhood was doing shady business because of his poor leadership. Achille was a horrible mentor. He only realised his mistakes and became wiser later on as he got older
ac1 already did proved that point where the assassins were hypocrites in the memory corridors
@@mreggshells8020 I guess, but this show it in the post-Altair era. Altair was supposed to have made the order better than it ever was.
I just wish the plot was longer, but I understand they had Unity on their plate.
The biggest failure of this game's story for me is that it gives you plenty of reason to fight the Assassins but almost no reason whatsoever to join with the Templars. Shay was rarely exposed to the darker side of the Templars and he felt more like a mercenary for them in the war and everyone kind of just uncomfortably swept his past under the rug. They quite literally skip Shay's entire conversion to the Templar order. Sure you see the scene where he officially joins them, but we never see *why.*
I think it would be far more interesting to pair Shay with Haytham right from the start instead of George Munroe. Or perhaps both. Haytham could be the one who stays his hand, empathising with a former Assassin disenfranchised with the order, but mainly keeping Shay alive purely out of necessity. Haytham would be on Shay at all times in order to prevent a betrayal, since at the start there was no reason to think that Shay wouldn't massacre the Templar leadership as soon as he finished off the Assassins.
That's very fair! Great analysis. I think because of the length they do a lot of assuming, they skip to the chase and it would've been nice to see more explanation for Shay's decision
to me, the biggest problem is how idiotic it all felt. its one of those "lets show everyone is grey" but to do that they go too overboard. seriously, "lets destroy an entire major city and not feel remorse". that's cartoony levels of psycopathy.
its even worse when you then compare with the modern assassins that cant even use guns because of some moral bs.
@@marcosdheleno I'm playing AC Syndicate right now and there is an audio where the assassin's infiltrate a templar base and they go in guns blazing, I don't know where you get that the assassin's don't kill in the modern day.
They even bomb a place and leave a scientist for dead (but Syndicate is the one with the shroud so you guess what happens next).
And the biggest failure of the game's gameplay, was that it doesn't make you feel as if you're playing as a Templar. Being ambushed by Assassins is nice but it isn't enough. At the end of the day, Shay isn't a Templar, he doesn't play like a Templar and he doesn't even care about the Templar's philosophy. Rogue is a waste of potential.
@@marsoh7972 isnt that how it is for pretty much every ac game? we never felt like an aprentice, be it ezio in ac2, connor in ac3 or arno in unity.
they all already were full fledged assassins skill wise before they became assassins when we got to play them.
even when we "learn" something its more like, "you know that stuff you know how to do, now you technically really do".
Shay is easily one of the most interesting characters in the entire franchises, top 5 assassins for sure
But is he top 5 tempelars
@@sonn9290 top 3 templars
True.
Considering how AC games are like 100 hours long now I really appreciate games like Rogue and Freedom Cry for their shorter playtimes.
Only 3 AC games are like 100 hours to beat and that's the last 3 ones to come out.
@@garretwoeller7669 Yeah I was referring to those 3, and they're exhausting to play now. Origins was great, Odyssey felt like more of the same and I couldn't even play Valhalla past the first 10 hours. Ubisoft really needs to dial it back with these games.
@@niharsheth agreed make them shorter and better paced they can be longer then older AC games but not 60 fucking hours with level locks pull a far cry 3 or 6 make it like a 30 hour campaign and just cram side missions into it maybe extra locations stuff like that.
@@garretwoeller7669 and bring back the Keyed of Armor set where you had to unlock an armor set by finding the keys or stones or something to get through the gate.
@@michaelkean5969 I feel like a hybrid system of the Ezio games key system and origins phylakes system would be fun. You go to the first location to find the first key. Instead of phylakes we could have treasure hunters who are competing for the treasure.
Honestly I didn’t feel much “vengeance” in this story. It felt like Shay was caught in the middle. He didn’t want to kill his old comrades but he didn’t want the assassins to create MORE earthquakes. At first his intentions were just but towards the end you can see the evil of the templar order corrupted him. So really it’s more of a “downfall story” not vengeance. Ezio and Connor had vengeance stories.
When Shay killed Arno's father, it was as if he killed the last vestiges of him being an Assassin, and his old brighter and charismatic outlook was completely replaced by a darker tone of ruthlessness that the Templars are usually associated with (Similar to Haytham in some way)
@@harbingerd.8457 and that is the sad tragedy to Shay as a character.
every character in the AC franchise has some kind of tragic fate. Edward being murdered. Ezio dying from Heart failure not getting to see his daughter grow up Connor's Wife has a miscarriage and dies. Altair has pretty much no life outside the brotherhood,.shay becomes the very thing he fought against.
I didn't really see where Shay was corrupted by the Templar order though. Yeah, he joined them, but to me, it seems more that he was doing what he was told than really believing what he was doing. When you know the two sides of the war, you *have* to choose a side so you won't be pursued by both. Shay's primary function was getting his hands on the precursor box and hunting Assassins. Which is basically just a flipside of what he used to do as an Assassin, hunting Templars. He's good on it, why changing his function?
I doubt you would ever see Shay trying to indoctrinate anyone into the Order. I even believe when his son joins it - and later his grandson - is basically out of formality. Since you're a Templar, your offspring will also be.
@@Sekaidestroyer well it does start off with Shay just taking orders but overtime you can see that he does allow himself to be indoctrinated. You can even tell by the tone of his voice. At first you hear his voice feel little bit more lighter with some joy but towards the end you can hear that his voice is more low and full of darkness. Plus you have the ring of fire around the flying eagle in the ending. Really shows the downfall of his character. Obviously I do not like the path that the assassins were on in rogue but at the same time giving more military power to the Templars(Haytham Kenway) wasn’t the best idea. If shay didn’t help them, Connor would’ve had less troubles in the American revolution and it’s possible that his village (including his mother) would have lived.
Connor absolutely did NOT get vengeance. He killed Haytham, but where’s there a need for revenge? For his absence and lack on knowledge of Connor’s very existence? He killed Charles Lee. Still, no need for vengeance; all Lee did to him personally was strangle him in the woods and say some racist shit. The true bastion of all Connor seeks to fight against is George Washington, who ordered the slaughter and torching of Connor’s village. But Connor can’t kill George as it would be compromising both the brotherhood and everything he believes in as it’d lead to the downfall of the colonies, the British winning the war and who-knows-what else. Connor is left at a stalemate with life and his own narrative after his people are scattered, chased away by the colonists, his father whom he grows to love and respect has been killed by his own hand, the man responsible for it all is alive and well (and has been ordering Connor around for quite a while too). No vengeance here. Also Ezio doesn’t really get vengeance either: he kills the borgias not for revenge, but out of necessity. He grows to realise that revenge is a fool’s game which is why he initially spares them. He eventually HAS to kill them as they’re plain and simply too dangerous and fucked up to be kept alive.
I’ll never forget the disappointment I felt when Rogue ended lol it was so short and I wish the story kept going! Would love to see a new and improved Templar story
I wish there's another playable Templars to explain why Templar can be bigger in modern day, using their legacy's knowledge especially from Haytham and Shay and ends it with how Abstergo born.
On god I was highkey hurt that I let a little tear out 😂 I really like Shay he’s one of my favorite he’s different he’s not blind by the creed or Templars he was his own person had his own beliefs I wish we got more games with Templars see they side with unity you play as a Templar bout a hour or so that’s in the beginning rouge was really good to me I say it’s a masterpiece

Black Flag is my favorite. By far. It's honestly one of my favorite open world games. But I completely missed out on rouge like most people. So when the Black Flag/Rouge combo cartridge came out on switch it was a game come true. I have put an ungodly amount of hours into it.
When the game got released everyone liked it more than unity actually
that's not hard to believe with how Unity launched, but yeah for that bit I just looked at review scores and user scores. They're both in the 7 range
But Rogue is shit compared to Unity.

Facts
I played this for the first time very recently, and I loved it. I think it works so well because Shay is the single most moral protagonist in all of Assassin's Creed. He doesn't care about sides, he cares about saving lives and keeping people safe. And it's not like he just switched sides and became a templar apologist. There are a couple times the templars are going to do things he doesn't think are on the up and up and he immediately calls them to the carpet and appeals to their better natures. I also like how the game shows that there are bad assassins and good templars. Combine all that with just how well connected the story is with other events in the AC universe, and it's just brilliant.
I just finished Rouge (Switch) in my 100% run-through of the games in order.
I absolutely loved it. I have one and only one criticism, the story length.
I legitimately love how it took so many factors from all the games before it and made one "love letter" to everything that came before.
One of the few AC games where I felt compelled to do everything! Loved all the side mission stuff on this, a simpler time when you could unlock goodies as opposed to buying them online.
Me too bro
The fact that the Lisbon sequence is marked by an earthquake is surrely a refference to the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. One of the most famous and destructive natural disasters to have hit Portugal. Just realy cool to see that little detail
Unfortunately ac rogue didn't execute the assassin betrayal well, the templars do the same stuff as the assassins. I finished it for the unique assassinations And the ending connected to ac unity.
Yep pretty much, but also I think that's the point and what we've been shown since the beginning. The whole "we have the same goals but different methods" thing shatters when you've got a corrupt leader (Al Mualim). I wished the gameplay made me feel like a templar, or at least different than an assassin
@@jayveeeee that's my big problem with the game. I didn't really feel like a templar And personally i liked haytham's charming personality rather than this brooding protagonist
They made assassin's looks stupid and evil just for the sake of the plot. It was a nice idea, but poorly done. AC3 did a better job with the Templars vs Assassin's. Rogue just made assassin's evil and Templars good.
@@meurer13daniel they didn't make Assassin's look bad. It showcased the power of the apple of eden anyone could be corrupted, even though the Assassin's didn't mean to.

As someone who loves snowy winter areas in video games, Rogue's setting was actually amazing for me. Exploring the Northern Atlantic by ship or on foot was incredible. The atmosphere and visuals are just breathtaking sometimes, especially at the parts that have northern lights.
This kind of plot connection with older games and new games throughout timelines is what made AC my favourite series
Don't think I'll feel like that in the future games anymore
Rogue is only my second AC game (after Black Flag) so I went in knowing a lot about Shay and the story and wow I LOVED it! It really showed off how the Assassin/Templar divide is about information and perspective. And the Lisbon earthquake sequence was INCREDIBLE. I feel like Rogue is more about the time period than the setting. Don't get me wrong, as a Canadian I loved seeing city names I recognize, but seeing how much real history they crammed in there was so cool. Haiti and Lisbon earthquakes, American and French Revolutions, all of the historical figures. AND they connected it to 3 other AC games? For how much they tried to fit into Rogue they did a pretty good job with it.
This game was great and the build up to the start of unity was brilliant. If no one has played AC Rogue yet, all I can say is give it a shot.
Downloading it right now. I think it's the only one I haven't at least played. I totally missed it when Unity came out. By the time I realized it was even a thing, I was already into the new formula.
It was just such a breath of fresh air to finally play as a templar for a full game. It was great hunting down those murdering hippies and completely destroying the order that you've been fighting for in all the past games. It was great to see a different perspective on things beside the TEMPLAR BAD - ASSASIN GOOD.
Game never seemed short to me as I did all the side content and did main story missions here and there, my approach to all open world games. I Loved this game!
The difference between this an Unity is incredible but on the PS3/XBox360 it was definitely one of the best looking games that console generation had. And you have to give Ubisoft some probs for still releasing for what was basically an outdated system. Also considering this was probably made by a small team in a tight budget I can really appreciate the work they put into it. It feels like they got the most out of what they had to work with (and that’s why I think it’s ok they took so much directly from Black Flag).
Selling it full price might be a bit steep but I remember buying it for around 30$ not a year after launch
You hit the nail on the head, that ending sequence where you play as shay but it’s literally the opening of unity from his perspective was priceless. I actually got goosebumps it was crazy. Already having gotten such great back story on Achilles and Haytham that at the end was literal 🔥. I played it for the first time late 2020 and having the fresh eyes and getting all that for 11.00 USD was power moves only.
One of the major complaints I heard when it first came out was the Assassins are out of character.
In truth I feel like that argument is overstated because the flaws in the Creed that this game highlighted have existed AT LEAST since ACII where Altair acknowledges them in his codex, though arguably even since ACI.
I honestly wouldn't quite put Achilles on Al Mualim's level because I can sympathize with the formers perspective a lot more, even as I know he is in the wrong. The thing I love about Rogue is how both Achilles and Shay make sense when you look at it from the information they have at the time, Achilles later admits he was wrong, and though Shay's outrage is understandable he didn't do the best job of communicating what had happened.
Exactly, Shay never tells anyone because it’s as much about seeing himself as all important as saving lives. He really is Anakin Skywalker, looking for any excuse to defect and not talking them out. (even acknowledging they have valid fears.)
Rogue is a Top 5 AC game for me personally, and Shay is top 3 fav protagonist. This game gets so slept on bc of its release date i wish everyone could play this atleast once
just out of curiosity, who the other 2 characters you put in your favorites? shae is my second right after ezio
This is the first ac game I ever played, and personally I think it's amazing
@@joaosaran4440 Alexios and Ezio are my other top 3. Connor is a close 4, but his stubbornness and sometimes straight up bein an asshole work against him for me.
Rogue is a waste of potential (just like the franchise). It could've been great if the gameplay/story put the player in the shoes of a real Templar. Instead, we get a fake Templar who cares nothing for the philosophy and plays like an Assassin.
@@marsoh7972 well, it IS called "Rogue"
I always had some issues with the last second nature of it, like the main character doesnt show up anywhere else because he wasnt written into the universe until after black flag. But man, it always had this very unique identity and atmoshpere that remains totally memorable, and completely individual from the rest of them. Somn bout it is still replayable... hard to explain.
I really love the feel of this game and it actually works that its in familiar setting
True it being in its own setting would be pretty cool but also being in this in between times after IV before III Lets you focus on story. Also Shay is pretty good protagonist and even when we are forced to Kill Adewale we still understand why he did it.
The only thing I wish they had done is take the combat from AC three and put it in this game it would fit so well.
This game was one of the last to have an actual Assassins plot that I enjoyed. Unity changed the series forever. And the game evolved completely since then. I genuinely miss the old formula.
to me Rogue has one of the best campaigns in AC Series.
I loved Rogue, especially after having played Unity first so when I got to the ending I was like “ohhhhhhhhh nooo, damnit Ubisoft Unity would have been better if you made this the main story!”
i got ac4 on switch this year and rogue was bundled in it and i had no idea what was in store for me, its such a good game and the story might be among my favorite ac stories bc it touches on how not everything is black and white and it doesnt always neccessarily have to be assassins good templars bad. shay was the perfect mc for the story as well and the setting really suits the mood and the slight eeriness it gives, i have to replay it soon
Rogue was a fun game. It felt like a neat little side story, and was a superior game to it's next gen dual release Unity, ironically enough. Playing an Assassin gone Templar was such a unique experience. We need more games like this, but in different settings.
Shay is literally one morally good MC. Some complain that he didn't feel like a templar but I think that was the point. The templars just happened to be a means to an end. He cared about the greater good and would side with whoever had similar ideals
Yes!!! Rogue gets its turn! I adore Shay and this was one of the games of the AC series, where some grey morality was introduced and I love not knowing who the bad and good guys are.
Being a prequel /sequel put Rogue in a very interesting place. We never got a Arno meets Shay or Shay meets Conner interaction and that is a tragedy.
I remember seeing the trailers for this game and I was sold immediately. When I was 16, I bought this game with my hard earned cash. I loved it so much I 100%-ed the game and now I can breeze through the game with no hud.*chefs kiss*
I like to think that Rogue is the most aesthetically beautiful one in the series. I love the setting during the French and Indian war, it doesn’t get talked about much, and the icebergs and the Canadian wilderness makes it all look nice.
I was a huge fan of counter assassinations getting to assassinate assassins as they try to get you is huge and actually dignified having alot of weapons
It's still the best 1700's era game next to the freedom cry dlc
I'd say Black Flag is the best 1700's game but everyone has their own opinion
This game was just **chefs kiss** ❤️ I loved the story ❤️
It’s great for being a smaller entry. Still one of the most unique stories in the series. Like I said in the unity review, wish there woulda some chance to crossover Shay with other characters in AC universe.
Shay has a link to ACIII and Unity. Also it is not that much smaller. Ity's on par with brotherhood, revelations and Black Flag.
Fun fact; Shay’s grandson is one of the historical protagonists in the Last Descendant novel. Crudgel Corma, Master Templar, Assassin Hunter. And still using the rifle.
Let’s put it this way, pretty sure Shay is one of the only AC main characters that has a catch phrase. Like I’m pretty sure he said “I make my own luck” dozens of times during the whole story! But I kinda wished since we were a Templar I wish like in brotherhood it would’ve been cool if we could be a Templar grand master setting up our own Templar group and spreading our influence
...it's Black Flag+...they let you do naval missions and recruit your fleet again, they have row boats on every island avoiding the swim back, they have a better setting in the North Atlantic, and they do away with the underwater sections...it's the best in the American trilogy and you get to kill assassins...the best, best game, 10/10...
i always wanted a Connor sequel with Shay and Arno that would've been amazing
That soundtrack man, I just can't get into the game and just wait at the loading screen, I mean idk I just love this 😍
Same...I just put on my headphones and close my eyes for a good minute or two during the title screen.
I think the biggest fault for me is the assassin's don't really feel like Assassins and Shay feels like he's a Templar because he's not an Assassin and not because he actually believes in their values and goals. I think he should have been a target in Unity though, Arno vs Old Man Shay would be sick.
What Rogue taught me is that there can also be corrupted Assasins and also good Templars.
I really enjoyed this game. Ubisoft needs to make more naval/pirate games
I 100% disagree, I’ve heard so many great things about Black Flag but I am so put off by all of the naval gameplay that I just cannot stand it enough to get to the good parts of the game.
@@quintenvandalen8197 I guess it's just not your type of game. Naval combat was one of unique things in AC Black Flag. There are not many games like that. Sea of thieves, but it's way different. If you don't like naval stuff, just fast travel a lot, you'll skipp most of it. I would gladly buy another pirate game, if Ubisoft would make it.
@@mrdato116 I agree, still remember even 9 years ago I was blown away by the naval mechanics of ac 3 . Actually I never played any game with naval mechanics or naval combat before so it was groundbreaking and guess what we got black flag later which was like 90% naval related and I liked it so much.
People can have their own opinions about not liking the naval aspects of the game but for me it was something extraordinary .
@@utsavbasu1048 I liked it too. Most people did I think. Hopefully Ubisoft releases something similar.
I loved this game and same as you I dont think we will have another game about templar stories so I sometimes come back and casually play it all over again
The fact that rogue and Unity is connected is marvelous
Dude rogue is got to be the best story in the assassins creed franchise, the setting in the artic was amazing as well. Rogue really was underrated and in my opinion it matches black flag in greatness
I've played the whole series and liked/loved all of them except for Valhalla and AC2, and i still can't understand when people say "what the series has become", every game is good at least, at best they're fantastic
Yep I believe they're all 8s minimum. They're all fun video games. People have such different expectations for sequels that it's always wild for me to see. "It's the same as it's always been" can be the worst outcome for one person while "it's evolved to the point of becoming something new" can be the best outcome. There's a point where we have to realize what these devs are going for... And for Ubisoft they've been making sequels that "are mostly the same" for a really long time. That's not a bad thing unless you decide you wanted something else or got tired of it.
@nonl os o y i personally dislike mary/gary stues in any media, so young Ezio really irritates me, everyone he meets, instantly wants a piece of him, he never fails at anything, the moment he grabs a sword, he can counter kill without learning, when he meets Catarina Sforza, i'm not gonna lie, that situation was physicaly painful, stealth is really bad, combat is really bad also, just didn't feel good to play.
The setting is beautiful not gonna lie, parkour when it wasn't shooting me in a random direction with a force field was fun, but i just couldn't enjoy the rest of the game
I’m playing Rogue for the first time now and I really love it. Shay is a great character I love exploring the North Atlantic and there is a lot of naval improvements like the semi automatic cannons ships being able to board you the whole ice system and being able to use the waves to avoid cannon fire. So far the story is really entertaining and I enjoy it a lot. I desperately wanted more of Black Flag I played Freedom Cry and I have started Rogue. The environments are beautiful and when I got to go to Paris I instantly got flashbacks to the hundreds of hours I spent in Paris in Unity. The Lisbon section was so cool.
Rogue was the first ac I've ever played. Until today it's one of my favorite ac games ever. It was so much fun to play
Same
Same
Wow, it's pretty hard to miss the older ones
What a unique way to start the series. How was your overall opinions of story in Ac3 after playing ACR first entirely?
Same
Fun fact:
That earthquake that happened in the Lisbon part of the game is actually real since that is the earthquake that happened in lisbon in 1755 and it was the strongest earthquake in Portugal.
Docking the ship was so much better in this one than Black Flag. There are a lot of quality of life improvements in this one that I love too.
I…. Love ac rogue. There, I said it. It has one of my favorite characters, one of my favorite stories for said character, and is the darkest story in ac history thus far. Also I love ac 3 for its amazing setting, Connor is the uncontested badass of the series, and the story is… pretty good as well. I don’t even need to talk about black flag 🏴☠️. It is my favorite game in the series, Edward is awesome, the story and its conclusion brought tears to my eyes, and the only other ac game that was able to do that was ac brotherhood when Cristina died. But yep, those games are awesome, love your vids jayvee.
Re playing it now because of this video and god the nostalgia hits so well so far
i love two things in ac rogue, the running from earthquake part and the outfit.
This was a great series to watch. Thanks for the content jayvee.
thanks for watching dude
Glad to see you had fun in the North Atlantic. It's fun to play a mainstream game where the places are close to where I live. When I sailed past Halifax for the first time my mind was blown. And when I sailed past New Brunswick and NewFoundland my jaw dropped.
I bought the black flag/rogue remastered on switch. Got it for like $20. Playing thru black flag (which I love) and then will go on to rogue. Playing it on the go is pretty sweet. And the game looks surprisingly good for a switch port. Haven’t played these games since ps3 days. I forgot how good these games are!
I do and have owned a lot of the Assassin's Creed games across multiple platforms with multiple copies and I'm currently unsure on whether I should just buy all the Assassin's Creed games available on Switch or just play them on my Xbox One.
@@GenerationZ313 yea I feel it. I have odyssey and Valhalla on Xbox. It is nice to have AC portable tho. And still looks good (for an older game) the gyro aiming is a nice touch as well.
i will always remember rogue as one of the ac game which family didnt die as motivation
Shay can kill all assassin protagonists except Edward and Ezio
I played this last year on PS3 when lockdown started. Platinumed it. Bought it exactly a year after on PS4 and Platinumed it again. No regrets. Greatest time ever. But knowing that I played so much of it in a short time, I don't think I'll even play it ever again. This was my favourite story-wise. Nice change of perspective
This is a gem for Switch owners btw. Runs great!
fr? I might consider it, it’s the only one i’ve not played
@@AG-bh1je I was in the same situation like you! I got Assassin's Creed The Rebel Collection for the Switch for like 20 euros. You get Black Flag and Rogue. Really good deal and Rogue runs great on the switch. Hand-held mode works great. played it a lot in the public transport.
@@Thieulini oh man, that’s actually great to hear. Might check it out this evening then!
My only complaint about Rogue is the fact that all the promotional art shows Shays outfit having a hood, but he doesn’t have it in the game.
may the father of understanding guide us❤️
I recently started AC with Syndicate, and subsequently played Black Flag and Rogue, which was the best AC to me. It reminded of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight in Batman series.
When you’re doing a playthrough in complete chronological order, it’s very satisfying. They should’ve built the story out more and it could’ve been one of the best.
Dumb question, but what is the chronological order of the AC franchise?
@@zerus4435 I know I'm 2 months late, but:
1) Odyssey
2) Origins
3) Valhalla
4) AC 1
5) AC 2
6) Brotherhood
7) Revelations
8) Black Flag
9) Freedom Cry
10) Rogue
11) AC 3
12) Liberation
13) Unity
14) Syndicate
I bought this game on discount about a week ago and played it for the first time. It's actually a pretty enjoyable short game. I do love the new mechanic of trying to find assassins when you start hearing the whispering and the multiple ways of clearing an assassin enclave.
I also know I'm in the minority regarding naval combat. Just don't enjoy it. Didn't enjoy it in black flag either. Prefer the stealthy assassin stuff
I just played and beat Rogue for the first time the other day as well. I really enjoyed it. Sure, it was "like Black Flag" but that was fine. Great game
Honestly, I don't remember much about the game and the story, but I remember that I enjoyed it. I think that showing some templar side of the story was great and I wish there were more AC games like that
Rogue is fucking incredible imo. 2014 was so good getting two incredible ac games the same day!!
One thing I appreciate is that somone gave Rogue a fair shake and did not simply call it a Black Flag clone and nothing else but dove into the games story. But I will confess that I do refer to it almost exclusively as the Templar one as to the North Atlantic one. Unlike Black Flag is the Carribean one or the Pirate one (both are interchangeable). But congrats on finally playing through all games I recently re-played through all them in chronological order during Covid as there was nothing else to do.
I love this game and seeing a RUclipsr give it justice is great
I needed AC 3 to complete my journey of all AC games. Just did earlier today and Rouge is actually a really fun one! Its a bit rough but not all bad. Black Flag was one of my favorite so it was easy to get into this one. The fact that the ending ties to the beginning in Unity gets major points with me.
I predict he's gonna say Valhalla is actually pretty good after two more Assassin's Creed games.
Haha
Lol 😂 to be fair, we often tend to be much more critical of a game right after it comes out. Same happened to ac3, unity, syndicate. After all the hype is out, we start enjoying the games for what they’re trying to do, rather than what we want them to do
Ac games age like fine wine. 😅
So I played AC Valhalla in 2025...
@@jayveeeee I’ll be there for it!
I am appreciating the fact this a is Bulgarian 🇧🇬 game! Greetings to Ubisoft Sofia/Bulgaria! My country can really surprise sometimes!
I was thinking that Haytham's story would be better as AC Rogue's. I know there's a book called AC Forsaken but come on not everyone wants to read a book based on games
Although I liked shay, I wholeheartedly agree with you. Playing with Haytham would have added a lot of weight to the experience given that we were already familiar and (most of us) fond of his character
the best part of Rogue is that it ties AC3, AC3L, AC4BF and ACU perfectly.
ah i remember being so sick of the old formula when rogue came out, And now when i look back rogue was the last good AC, sadness
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot 🤣
Rogue is the glue that holds AC3, BlackFlag and Unity. This is the reason why it's so underrated.
I liked rouge the only thing I was mad about was that I couldn’t have the Templar outfit with the hoodie
Lmaoo same it’s on all the covers but we don’t actually have it it’s kind of ridiculous hah
@@Chuwopington actually you do get it, but it's in the deluxe edition. You get it for free.
Rogue and black flag are amazing the fact you get to see not all templars are bad in rogue and the fact edward isnt even a assassin in black flag
as an Average Templar Enjoyer, this is my favourite AC game 🙏🙏🙏🙏
We are the true ultra sigma alphas 😎
Reject Chaos. Return to Order.
May the father of understanding guide us.
And Shay's got a really good character foundation.
The thing I loved about this game is how it lines up so many storylines in AC 3 and Unity…A great game in my opinion Ubisoft reusing assets is nothing new, certainly in this era of games using this engine. Great vid mate enjoyed it thoroughly keep it up 👍
