    About jayveeonYT:
News, reactions, and gameplay of all the biggest RPGs, open world, and action-adventure video games! Jayvee covers Assassin's Creed, Cyberpunk, Fallout, and more!
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Assassin's Creed is an open-world action-adventure stealth video game franchise published by Ubisoft and developed mainly by its studio Ubisoft Montreal using the game engine Anvil and its more advanced derivatives. Created by Patrice Désilets, Jade Raymond, and Corey May, the Assassin's Creed series depicts a fictional millennia-old struggle between the Assassins, who fight for peace and free will, and the Templars, who desire peace through order and control. The series features historical fiction, science fiction and fictional characters intertwined with real-world historical events and figures. In the majority of the games, players control a historical Assassin, while also playing as an Assassin Initiate or someone caught in the Assassin-Templar conflict in the present-day framing story. The series took inspiration from the novel Alamut by the Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol, based on the historical Hashashin sect of the medieval Middle East,[1] while building upon concepts from the Prince of Persia series.[2]
The series's eponymous first title was released in 2007, and it has featured twelve main games in total, the most recent being 2020's Valhalla. Main games of Assassin's Creed are set in an open world and presented from the third-person perspective where the protagonists take down targets using their combat and stealth skills with the exploitation of the environment. Players have freedom to explore the historical settings as they finish main and side quests. Apart from single-player missions, some games also provide competitive and cooperative multiplayer gameplay. A new story and occasional new time period are introduced in each entry, and gameplay elements evolve from the previous one. There are three overarching story arcs in the series. The first five main games follow Desmond Miles, a descendant of several important Assassins throughout history, who uses a machine called the Animus to relive his ancestors' memories and find powerful artifacts called "Pieces of Eden", while also attempting to prevent a catastrophic event said to wipe out humanity by the end of 2012. From Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and until Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Assassin initiates and employees of Abstergo (a company used as a cover by the modern-day Templars) record genetic memories using the Helix software, helping the Templars and Assassins find new Pieces of Eden in the modern world. The latest three games, Assassin's Creed Origins, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, follow ex-Abstergo employee Layla Hassan and her own quest to save humanity from another disaster.
The main games in the Assassin's Creed video game series have received generally positive reviews for their ambition in visuals, game design, and narratives, with criticism for the yearly release cycle, frequent bugs, and shift towards the prioritising of role-playing mechanics. The spin-off games received mixed reviews. The video game series has received multiple awards and nominations, including Game of the Year awards. It is commercially successful, selling over 155 million copies as of October 2020, becoming Ubisoft's best-selling franchise and one of the highest selling video game franchises of all time.

The only one I disagree with is AC Origins being above AC2, although I will admit to putting hundreds of hours into AC Origins, AC2 is a masterpiece and one of the few AC games that people other than AC fans play a lot. Ezio is great but quite frankly, most side characters were really boring to me, but they are still somewhat memorable and I do remember some such as Machiavelli, Leonardo (who is the best side character in AC) or even La Volpe.

Regardless of your own personal list, one thing I think we can all appreciate with every AC game is the attention to detail with regards to the maps/locations. A lot of people commenting here about visiting locations in Italy, and how the creators perfectly modeled it in the game. In Florence I walked over a famous bridge called Ponte Vecchio, and my goodness did they nail that on the head. But that’s a very famous location, of course they’ll get that. Surely they wont get some obscure ancient location in a forgotten city, right? Wrong. I was in Greece on Mykonos, but there’s an island a quick ferry ride away called Delos. On this island is a forgotten ancient city that’s only ruins today. Within those ruins are these famous lion statues called the Terrace of lions. They used to stand next to a lake that’s since been drained. Both the city and the statues are much less well known pieces of Greek history compared to the Parthenon or Library of Alexandria etc. So one day when I was playing Odyssey I recalled that trip to Greece and went to the island in the game, which they created with the city, but then to my complete amazement, they not only had on the lion statues there, but they has the correct number of them and placed exactly where they were in relationship to the ancient lake, and in the exact spot as they were on the real island. 🤯🤯🤯 they didnt even make it a big deal like they were the showcase of the island. They were just a standard decoration. If i hadnt seen the statues in real life, I would have never known the game ones were based off of real history. Amazing.

But just a story about a man who loses everything he has in the name of an order just to find out that the message he received was for someone else. That he was a middle man between what was a mystery and the person who would solve it (That being Desmond) and him finally understanding that the answer was never his to find. Jacob can be a bit much, but I like the sarcastic tone tbh. There’s no need to be so boring and serious all the time, as much as I also loved that about Conner. The only problem I have with Syndicate is the free running/parkour system. Why they didn’t just keep the same one from Unity shocks me. Also, free running around London is just difficult without using the rope launcher constantly, which was frustrating. Although, I did enjoy using the rope launcher in missions. I also enjoyed the fast-paced, unrealistic combat. I do miss the AC3 combat animations still, tho.

The Ezio trilogy is by far my favourite, it’s nothing short of a masterpiece. These games are how I expect an assassins creed game to feel: they’re punchy, gory and refreshingly intellectual. I love the philosophy which is explored by the game. The combat and free running styles are also fantastic too.
I also think it’s because of the Ezio trilogy that I dislike the new titles so much. The old games never compromised over the quality of the story; they were created for the fans who loved learning about templars, assassins, ancient artefacts etc. The new games, as visually stunning as they are, don’t do this. I struggle to take their characters seriously too, they are far too cartoonish and uninteresting. The best thing about Ezio (and Edward) was just how wise they became. This is perhaps something which has been lost in recent games.

Basim has the potential to be main character like ezio that can captivate the audience… All the need is parkour from unity, stealth from syndicate, a strong city setting the feels like best parts of all the best cities and to take the best parts of the combat and storytelling from what the people liked and disliked from the past and they have a base to build off as the continue forward. Hopefully Ubi keeps their promise and alternates between the big open world and the smaller old school games and nail the Japanese open world setting after mirage

Honestly, speaking as someone who regards AC4 as THE BEST AC game out there (completed it 5 times now), even I think the combat system is way too simplified. IMHO, the system in AC2/ACB/ACR is better since I personally feel like I have more control, while in AC4 it is just parry, counter attack, parry, counter attack, rinse and repeat. Especially when you get the mayan armor (which makes you impervious to bullets). The fighting animations are very cool, but still the combat is very simple.

Black Flag is my favourite game in the series. The story means so much to me. The game made me cry and it gave me so much joy. I love most Assassins Creed games but this one truly made a huge impact on my life. The Caribbean was a beautiful setting and one I always wanted to explore in a video game. I love sailing and boarding ships. Also the game was with me during a lot of really important and scary parts of my life where my life was changing and I found Black Flag to be a constant source of fun and comfort to me. When I finished the game it felt like I finished a journey with Edward and I couldn’t help but cry and feel emotional when the credits rolled. Edward felt like a character I could truly relate to he wasn’t born into the Brotherhood or a wealthy family but somehow he managed to overcome his greed and self doubt to become a wiser and more noble man who didn’t just fight for himself anymore but fought for a cause that helped people even though he wouldn’t be recorded in the history books or remembered he did it out of sure willpower and courage. We see Edward hit rock bottom but we also see him rise and become the best version of himself.
Brotherhood has a fantastic open world and it was great seeing Ezio maturing and becoming a mentor in the Assassin Brotherhood and renovate Rome. The combat was a huge improvement on previous games and the story was a lot more fun and interesting to me. Cesare was a good villain and the modern day was fantastic and I always wondered what would happen next. The visuals still look good to this day Rome is vibrant and the architecture is stunning.
Unity was the embodiment of the Assassin fantasy. The parkour the combat which was difficult and realistic the stealth adding a crouch option which may not sound like much but it improves the stealth so much. Awesome gadgets like the phantom blades berserk blades and of course the setting of Paris. It is not that buggy nowadays and I think people exaggerated the bugs a lot. The game felt like a modern version of Assassins Creed.
These are my top 3 favourite Assassins Creed games. Black Flag for its emotional significance to me and for having my favourite Assassin Edward in it. Brotherhood for its open world and side content and Unity for its parkour and stealth.

Assassins Creed 1 is honestly the definitive experience if you want to feel like an assassin, while Unity certainly is far better than people make it out to be (I still remember the bitch fits people threw about the glitches). AC1 did so much right though, the storyline is probably one of the more memorable ones and if you went back to play it I think you would agree. It gives you a good reason and good understanding of your Assassination targets and WHY you must assassinate them. You actually do Assassin things like tailing, pickpocketing, eavesdropping, and Interrogation. For as good as I think AC2 is, I can only remember like 2 assassinations in that entire game because only one I actually got to know well before killing while the other is just because the entire mission is so good that the target could have been anyone and I would remember it. In the case of Unity I feel it got back to some of the more stealthy aspects of the original game, but the assassinations in it also didn't give me the memorability of 1.

@@sadscientisthououinkyouma1867 That is very true and i love that game, but the 2007 engine limits the game for me after becoming so used to newer games and i only find this problem with ac games lol. I think i was mostly referring to the simple things like stealth in the game with multiple ways to approach a target + the beautiful scenery of the game, and in a game with the mechanics of unity just make is so damn satisfying. Unity’s story isn’t as bad as everyone says and i really enjoy it but i can say ac 1 is probably better overall. But mechanics and graphics in a game really do matter when it comes to ac games where in other games a story can make you ignore it and is probably why i prefer unity over other ac games for the most part.

I feel like my biggest problems with the newer AC’s (like Valhalla) is the complexity of the fighting. I’m all for a game that makes you work to be good at it, but for me what made me fall in love with these games early on was the simplicity of the combat (especially with high profile enemies). It allowed me to take in the impact that fight has in the story and made me feel like an assassin. The way I see it is that if you’re a good assassin, your kills are almost always going to be quick and unexpected by your target. Being a Viking is cool, but I don’t buy into the assassin narrative and feel like it belongs in a different game universe

Your choice of putting Brotherhood at the top is something I completely agree with.
I remember, as a kid, playing it through with my dad, who is a historian specialising in renaissance, sitting beside me. He would tell me small stories etc. about the monuments and the structure of society at the time, while providing lore for both the templars and the original hashashins.
Going on a trip to Rome in real life the following year cemented this as my all time favourite. The attention to detail in the game meant that I could - in a quite surprising way - find my way around Rome, a city I'd never visited in real life before, without using a map. Just remembering the locations from the game.

I agree with him so much in that the biggest problems with the newer games stem from focusing too much on the time period they take place in (Vikings, Spartans...) and not enough focus on how they tie into the Assassins. I feel like Kassandra and Eivor were great warriors, but they didn't feel enough like Assassins. I feel like both games would be much better if they were just RPG games about a Greek Warrior and a Viking respectively rather than them being AC games. I personally like my assassins to understand exactly what they are fighting for and the history of the orders rather than just killing people because they met a character in the game that told them it would be the right thing to do.

    My top would be:
18- ACIII Liberation:I played this shit like a zombie, good ideas but it felt like a chore. I would't made my worse enemy play it.
17- Assassin's Creed: It was a chore to play also, too much repetitive but i give it a pass since is the first in the franchise, Altair is a great character and the Abstergo plot was such a great mystery back in the day.
16- Altair's Chronicles: Nothing too special, just a simple game that incorporates touch mechanics for puzzles. It was released for DS and Iphone, but even so, it's always good to see more of Altair.
15- Chronicles Trilogy: China is kinda meh but it's nice to see what happened to Shao Jun after Embers. Also that tutorial with old man Ezio was really nice fan-service.
India had Arbaaz-Mir which really stuck with me, and Russia was nice to finally play as Nikolai Orelov. It was nothing special, just some side stories with the precursor box as a macguffin.
14- AC2 Discovery: Way better than any Chronicles game. It's fast-passed, tells a good story to fill blanks in AC2 insane time jumps and it's just a fun game. Nothing more than another side-scroller from DS.
13- Bloodlines: Now THAT'S how you make a dumbed down version of AC for a portable. The gameplay is almost exactly like the console game(with exception of the right analog) and it surely knew it's limitations. The story is canon since it follows up the first game and continues in Revelations, so this game is kinda important to understand Altair's story.
12- Odyssey: I hated it when it launched, waited years to play it so i could change my opinion, and i still hate it. Not that i enjoyed some parts of it, Kassandra is a good protagonist and the gameplay loop is somewhat enjoyable.
But i kept asking ''why in god's name i'm playing this?'' because everybody knows and it's true, Odyssey is a mediocre game at best, but never an Assassin's Creed game.
11- Valhalla: At least they tried. I love vikings and norse mitology but it just went to a point it can't go back and erase whatever shit they been doing these past years. The choice options have no point being there since you know, Layla is RELIEVING Eivor's live, so things AREADY HAPPENED.
Because of that, Ubisoft three years later decide ''oh, and female Eivor is canon''. It has good plot points to the franchise but i prefer playing old games instead of it. But it's still better then fucking Odyssey.
10- Syndicate: That's where the downfall truly started(excluding Unity's bad launch), the Frye twins weren't close to interesting, the combat is horrible with those cartoon animations, almost as bad as Oddysey, and the rope launcher removes any reason to climb.
But i do like the aesthetics, Victorian London is a great and beautiful setting, and Jack The Ripper DLC was really good. Also the WW1 segments are the most memorable thing of the game.
9 - Rogue: Really underrated and people give too much shit. Yes it's really short and nobody would even think of buying it instead of Unity the day it launched, but it's well worth it. The gameplay is more refined Black Flag, not much side activities but the story sells it.
Shay is a character you sympathize with him and his actions, the new vision of the hole conflict is fresh and something we needed at the time. Plus there's younger Achilles, the best antagonist in the series Haytham and an satisfying end to the Kenway Saga.
8- Freedom Cry: It's more of ACIV so we all know it's good. Adewale is a fucking badass and seeing the hole precursor box mcguffin is an easy but good plot. At least it had a big payoff in Rogue.
7- Origins: We all know it's the best of the RPG saga, Bayek and Aya are amazing characters with so much importance to the lore and the gameplay still feels like AC. The only one that makes sense to not have the brotherhood, that final scene of them creating the Creed with Ezio's Family playing makes it the second best ending of the series.
6- Black Flag: Edward is barely an Assassin, but out of the ''non-Assassin'' protagonist, he's the best one. And we all know why, he is sarcastic and cracks jokes, but he's serious when it's needed, just like Ezio.
The naval gameplay is addicting, the combat could've used more variation like in 3 and i never liked the colorful blue aesthetic but i get it. Also it has the third best ending of all games, Edward's arc is so good i cry every time i finish it.
5- Brotherhood: I love this game, but not as much as some people do, simply because of the ending. It's so rushed to keep up with the historical events of the Borgia that feels like they didn't planned that much of the story.
The gameplay is good as any Ezio game, the art direction is beautiful and every character is well written, from La Volpe to Macchiavelli, to every Borgia target. What this game shines are really the side content: The brotherhood system, Da Vinci machines missions, the cult of Romulus and of course the repressed Cristina memories.
4 -ACII: I'm surprised how much it holds up till this day. So much side content, Ezio's revenge story and the plot twists, the refined gameplay, everything holds up.
Controlling Ezio from a baby to a teen, seeying him reach his 40s, his voice deepening in the game, all the characters that teached him, damn that's a feeling you get only once.
3- Unity: Underrated love story(i still think Ezio/Cristina and Bayek/Aya are better). The parkour we all know is the best one till date of all games with this system, the combat is easy to learn/hard to master and the graphics are simply beautiful.
Dead Kings DLC is probably the best DLC of the series and i overral i feel bad about people that didn't played this game later, it's truly a masterpiece.
2- Revelations: My favorite from Ezio Trilogy. Mentor Ezio might be the best character of the series, the way it develops of how much he's tired but still going for answers is to me the peak of Assassin's Creed.
Also, we had closure for Altair, the most important character on the series, and that ending is the best one in the hole series.
I've never knew how much i needed to hear ''Requiescat in pace, Altair'' untill i did, and the big ''revelation'' of those who came before and that the world will end is incredible. It was a nice ending to Altair and Ezio, but also a great opening to my favorite game in the franchise.
1- ACIII: This game is so deep in mechanics. Every assassin is unique in personality, the crafting system is confusing at the start but a great income, PegLeg missions are incredible cinematic missions, Homestead missions is as deep as the main story and gives depth to Connor, something that people that only played the main campaign doesn't even imagine.
The combat has so much weapons and animations, the tree parkour is the best of all games, and the story, oh boy the story. Haytham's sequecenses are essential to the hole plot and to start the main theme of the Kenway saga, that there's no actual good or bad side of the conflict.
Connor is my favorite both visually since he's a fucking tank with a hood and his story is probably the most tragic, so makes sense for him to be so focused on his blind revenge while being more more carefree in the Homestead questline.
Also Desmond in this game, his interactions with his father, his grief for Lucy, the knowledge he got from Altair, Ezio and the Kenways finally makes him from ''just an avatar that the player controls and for the story to be explained to him/the player'' to a fully developed character. Also THE MODERN MISSIONS, one of them actually being in my country Brazil, they're so good. Truly an 8/10 underrated game that nowadays with Odyssey existing.

Unity was fantastic - the improvements to the parkour, graphics, animations etc. were truly a breath of fresh air. This game is what Assassins Creed should have been with modern technology behind it. If they continued down this path today's games would have brought the game back to its roots which made it critically acclaimed in the first place.

I like Bayek because he doesn't quite feel like the the masterful assassin of the other games because he isn't one. True. I feel like out of all the assassins, in terms of ENVIRONMENT Bayek didn't give a shit. He didn't forge some grandiose 'remake the world' vision; he simply wanted revenge. Pure and direct. Plus the cinematic trailer for Origins was fuckin fire

I also remember rage quitting on the Leonardo tank mission.

It's so weird. Brotherhood has always been my least favorite game.
I think it was mainly due to the disappointment when it first came out. What I loved the most about 1 and 2 was planning assassinations, and being creative and stealthy.
Brotherhood had literally 1 kill that allowed you to be creative, which was Juan Borgia. The rest of it was linear.
Future games continued this trend, but Brotherhood was my first disappointment in this regard, and I will always remember it with a sour taste in my mouth.
On top of that, it felt too short, and was quite glitchy at release. I never viewed it as a fully fletched title, just a very large DLC.
I was very surprised to find out that it was a fan favorite. Maybe it is worth a replay.
