The characters are great (reading what Machiavelli wrote to then meet him in game was amazing), the historical context, general vibe and events are very accurate (with some liberties of course), and the city are amazingly recreated.

So glad to see you get around to AC2! This game really is timeless in so many ways. One thing I wished you would’ve mentioned is that the database entries for your targets and the codex pages really do a good job of fleshing out the story. The confessions are unfortunately sparse compared to how masterful they were in AC1, but much of the details get moved into supplementary materials like letters that you can read in the database (you can also read the letters from the courier missions). The codex pages are also amazing and do a great job of filling in the gaps between AC1 and AC2.

AC2 is such a GOAT!! This game is so nostalgic and absolutely incredible, that even all these years later, I've made it a point to visit Monteriggioni for an upcoming trip. Current assassin creed games need to take a step back and listen to their fan base more instead of catering to mass appeal and breaking sales records. Good sales and appeal are the product of a well-crafted game and should not be the only driving force for creation and inspiration.

I bought the Ezio trilogy on PS4 around Christmas time because I had never played those games. My first AC game was AC3, and I remember everyone hating Connor and loving Ezio, but never knew why. So I FINALLY decided to see what all the hype was about and OH MY GOSH. AC2 is PHENOMENAL. Some of the controls haven't aged quite so gracefully, but that rarely affected my experience. I finally understood why everyone loves Ezio, and why a lot of people think the Italian Renaissance games are peak AC. Personally AC3 is my favorite, but AC2 is right up there.
Also, I hate how in future titles, you can only aquire Ezio's Brotherhood outfit. His AC2 outfits are WAY better than his Brotherhood one. Both the starting robes/his father's robes and the endgame Altair armor. Top tier AC robes imo

AC Black Flag was my first game because I wanted to play a pirate game without knowing it being Assassins Creed, the more I play deep into it, the more I learned about AC games, I was like wow how could I miss out AC2, AC3 and all AC games. So I played AC2 and AC3, I was blown away how amazing these games are.
Then I played Rogue, the ice version of black flag, it was sooo good.
Then I played Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla.
Odyssey is the most beautiful and charming, Origins has better story and more resembled to the original AC, Valhalla is more variety and deeper cinematic.
As for my favorite.. black flag will always be my favorite, but AC2 is darn close too, I just love Italy.

Whoaaa great to stumble across this video and nice job mate. Uncanny really. Especially since you uploaded it in 2022. I had just moved this year in January, to a new apartment in the city and ended up borrowing my cousin's PS4. The second game pack I bought was Ezio's collection and by God is AC2 the best by a mile. Played it through once back when I was 14, now I'm 26, playing it brings back so many memories and nostalgic moments for me. I agree 100% that even in 2022, this game stands out for it's creativity, evolution from the original series, and it's vastly improved game mechanics. Even the music alone is enough to leave me spending hours on free roam. I turned the music up to 10 and the rest like voice/SFX down to 6 lol. Aside from that just the missions, characters, cities, conspirators and general game pace like you mentioned is spot on, bar some particular missions that require time + effort. Simple, yet so very effective and enthralling. My favourite in particular was the Carnivale in Venice. Spent at least two weeks alone just roaming around with the golden mask. The golden mask and Altair's armour not just looks so bloody spectacular, but gives Ezio an edge especially with the need to go incognito frequently. All in all I spent 3 full months just taking my time enjoying this masterpiece. Pointless for me to write all this really but that's how much I love this fucking version/release. AC2 will go down as one of the best games in history for me at least. And it has a damn good case.

It happens in such close succession that there’s no reason for ezio not to kill him except for the fact he died in 1503. I still love the character and game but this really frustrated me while re playing it cus he was fully prepared to kill him 5 minutes before deciding to spare him. Not to mention the countless other people he had already killed to get to that point, and then when face to face directly with the man responsible for his families death he decides he’s a better man and murder isn’t the way. This was one of those games that I was so overwhelmingly hyped for as a kid (like 13 or so). I remember coming home from school and watching the cinematic trailer almost everyday and rewatching the gameplay trailers obsessively. It totally lived up to everything I could’ve imagined. I don’t really get that anymore. Not because I hate gaming or have become jaded with age but being that age and seeing something you view as mind blowing, waiting what feels like an eternity for it to come out and then it delivering…it’s hard to ever top. I’ll always love this game and Ezio, even if I don’t care as much about the franchise now.

The worldbuilding in this game was master class. I played this game when it came out in 2009, and the places I went and things I did in the game feel like a part of MY history, not a fictional characters. The immersion, the characters, the music, it truly is a masterpiece. Modern game studios could learn a lot from this game.

In 2022 I also played AC 2 along with brotherhood, revelations and AC3! And out of the three the second game felt the most important to me, you find yourself invested in this universe where the game makes you CARE about these characters, in, and out of the Animus. And you get sucked into the environments, the dialogue, and the overall gameplay, it's both an amazing game, and what feels like a movie at times! When I first played this a decade ago, I adored it, 10 years later, nothing has changed ❤️🤍

I replayed all the early AC games about 2 years ago to 100% the xbox achievements and found Brotherhood (and Revelations) to be way better than I remembered. I played AC2 when it first came out and it is one of my all time favorite games, and favorite AC game, but Brotherhood surprisingly gave me a similar feeling to AC2 plus it had a lot of new features I found to make the game feel and play better than AC2 imo (and of course Revelations is the same as Brotherhood more or less). I felt a little guilty asking myself if I was REALLY about to think Brotherhood was better than 2... nothing can beat the Ezio origin story though!

    • @Elite7555

@@Conquered Completely opposite experience. I found Brotherhood way more boring and tedious than I had remembered. Revelation was surprisingly good in every aspect, though, and that just comes down to mission structure. Brotherhood requires so much stealth, though it doesn't really have any stealth mechanics. And some missions like rescuing Caterina not only required lots of it, but were also really tedious.

AC2 is definitely one of the best games I've played, and this video brought up great points about it👍🏻
However, I have to be a little critical about this. Atleast speaking from my personal experience, the collecting of feathers was really boring. Trying to find them is painful enough, and even with a guide it feels very boring. And on top of that, what do you get as a reward? The Auditore cape which makes you infamous everywhere, and you can't lower it. Does not seem like a good reward in my opinion.
Another thing that felt like a phase breaker was the codex pages. Thankfully there were not too many of them (I think it was around 24) but I remember I did 3 of them at beginning and thought "This is boring imma skip this" just to find out at the end of the game that I have to go through them all.
But other than those parts, I think the game was fantastic. Sure these are my personal opinions but I have a feeling I'm not the only one with these thoughts.

THANK YOU FOR THIS! Another super fun mechanic is picking up weapons that you otherwise couldn’t equip like a big axe from an armored enemy. If you just run and don’t sprint you can take it with you and they have their own finishing moves and animations. Used to do that all the time 😅
