@@dominicgaming7910 For me personally they weren't engaging! If you played the main story then DLC is the same shit, each quest has the same design. The Mythology DLC was the worst, I personally couldn't immerse myself into that world.
Same here. I've come to like odyssey for what it is. Just have to not take the story or the characters seriously and instead the world. Also the cosmetics but origins really does take the cake.
@@Saber23 I donno, Odyssey is filled with colorful characters. There’s that guy who always shows up for a shag with Kassandra not to mention all the other lovers she meets along the way. One of my favorites is the big, boisterous pirate lady on the island who sends Kassandra on all kinds of adventures. Loved her. And who can forget her buddy Socrates. I get a kick out of every time she runs into him. And Kassandra herself has a good sense of humor and a dry wit that keeps the adventure fun.
@@StillLateToTheParty everything you mentioned is just you being horny and then 1 good character, Kassandra herself doesn’t have dry wit she’s just dry full stop bud, when you compare that to the amount of characters in Origins the latter still comes out on top even though it’s not the best AC game by any means
@@StillLateToTheParty so true you play on nice big monitor on maximum settings, and its absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. You can get lost in this game for hours just doing some irrelevant stuff and kill some week enemies
Absolutely loved Odyssey, apart from whatever wrong with the story, just to roam around Ancient Greece and as you said, visit places you’ve been. Probably spent about 20 hours doing that. Great video mate 👊
After starting Valhalla I think I can safely say that Odyssey is the best game in the series to just exist in. I really hope Nexus let's us just wander around the map, even if it's just a few cities.
You dont have to pay off your bounty every time, the game shows you in your map who's placed the bounty and youre able to assassinate them. Much less expensive, much more fun
There was an exotic set that when equipped gave like a 200%+ assassin damage but -80% health, that shit was fire for assasinating higher-than-me level targets
I liked odyssey but had to change my mindset to it being a Greek simulator and it was fine. I liked the sailing and open seas. But I’m bias because I love Ancient Greece and it’s aesthetic.
My issue is Odyssey didn’t improve on mechanics origins introduced, instead they blew them out of proportion. Prime example being looting the same armor over and over again and level locking armor, picking up the exact same gear multiple times just for the stats to be slightly higher made looting feel so pointless. I feel Valhalla improved on it the right way by making every armor unique and having to invest in it to upgrade the stats.
Yeah valhalla made some subtle and underappreciated changes. I loved that you could pretty much have the same set of stuff the entire game, customized to your playstyle, and just keep upgrading and changing its appearance if you get bored. And it was cool that finding loot usually required a simple environmental puzzle to get to...still better than just walking into a room and opening a chest. And the actual loot itself was much more useful. Instead of a duplicate or inferior item, they were generic resources you could use to upgrade anything you want
nope, played through both several times; Origins was objectively better. Odyssey came out too close, it needed another year of fleshing out to make a true step above Origins.
Do you? I don't. I played both, and I found Odyssey to be a massive snooze fest, the poster child for how open world games can go very wrong, in almost every possible way possible. In Odyssey, I literally didn't care where I was in the world, it's almost impossible to tell apart one place from another. I was sure I'd prefer Odyssey because I love Greek mythology and went into Origins with a "oh well, I have nothing better to play anyway" attitude. What's strange is that they nailed it in the other game they did, Fenyx ( was it called? ), I wanted to visit every nook of this game... unfortunately, I didn't like the gameplay and gave up after an hour, but it goes to show that they f'ed up the world in Odyssey. I barely remember it and I spent 40 hours in there... Yet I could draw a map of Origins from memory. All that to say, I literally can't comprehend how people would prefer it. I don't like Dark Souls games but I can understand why people with weak ego would love them and feel the need to play them, but Odyssey? I REALLY don't get the appeal. Wouldn't even be able to play devil's advocate if you paid me.
My major disagreement is that I would HIGHLY recommend putting at least bit of effort and investment into your armor and weapons. You couldn’t be more off that it doesn’t make a difference. Raw DPS is actually the least important stat, it’s all about the modifiers. For example you can pretty easily get to 100% CRIT chance w/ full health through the right engravings and items. For me personally the resources needed to upgrade were extremely plentiful and easy to come by even on harder difficulties, never needed to buy any bundles. Then again I didn’t put much into my ship because for me it was purely transportation, so that could be why I always had loot to spend on weapons and armor upgrades. Also I would say it hugely incentivizes exploration of the world, as each Ostraka riddle gives a clue to a new engraving hidden somewhere in the open world. A few of these engravings are insanely powerful and make for cool and customizable gameplay like the +200% damage -80% health one. Others allow you to get to max level engravings such as the aforementioned 100% CRIT chance w/full health and others. Then if you combine w/ CRIT damage suddenly you’re doing 2-4x your raw DPS on every hit, meaning you can blow through big groups of normal enemies and easily hang with bosses or high level enemies. This is just one example, but it’s what gives you the ability to escape the linear path the regions have and makes every play-style viable without swapping between 5 different loadouts.
Odyssey is easily my favorite AC game, and honestly in my top 5 games of all time. A lot of people will hate that I said that lol. I enjoyed your video but have some tips that may improve your experience if you ever play again.
While playing Odyssey, I often feel like it just may be the greatest experience with any media I’ve ever had… and I love a lot of movies and shows, but Odyssey at its best can sometimes hit far beyond even my favorite movies…
I also think it’s the best in the series. I know some would disagree. I think it depends if you accept it’s an over 80 hours game or you want to rush through it in a weekend and move onto the next game.
Odyssey is such a pleasure to play I can't wait to revisit it. Absolutely everything in that game is beautiful and I wish it had a first person mod and a big bonus to it is that it teaches you history!
As someone who dislikes the traditional ac games including mirage, imo the only ac games worth playing are odyssey, origins and Valhalla, i dont play games based on the series but based on gameplay and mechanics that i enjoy, the series is irrelevant, story is just a theme, a backdrop on a game world, but its the gameplay and mechanics that keep your attention, maybe its because i mostly play RPGs but i get no enjoyment from the traditional ac games while i love odyssey, origins and Valhalla
agreed i recently tried playing some older ac games and i couldnt get into it. combat is too basic its just counter and the kill. no special abilities. the assassinations are better admittedly but honestly was bored with even the ezio games. much prefer origins and odyssey. was disssapointed in Mirage felt like a DLC rather than a complete game and the graphics and locatiion was so dull.
@chrisroger4416 mirage is the one AC game I want to play but haven't gotten yet, but the only 3 AC games I've played are odyssey, origins and Valhalla, loved all three, but I never played the older games just because they never appealed to me, I hated that batman arkham style counter combat style, plus they weren't RPGs and I mostly play RPGs, never been big on stealth games unless they were part of a RPG
@@mathewhosier9739 yep same here i hate the combat from the old games so basic and repetitive. odyssey and origins are my favs. im relaying origins now and the graphics are honestly bettter than mirage almost. mirage i dont think you would like it but its only like 30 hours long. no side missions just main story and not much to do but try it as some of the missions are kinda fun
if wannabe shallow rpg elements and pretty-looking sandboxes are what make your dopamine receptors go haywire, good for you😂 and no, the story was never the backdrop for REAL ac games, it was essential and woven into the every aspect of the game; a practice you rarely see in today's titles🤷🏽
You think Kassandra's voice acting was bad? (I don't.) Wait until you hear Mirage's Basim. BTW: Just finished a full Odyssey playthrough (including all DLC) in about 200 hours (bought that Gold edition for 14 euro).
While I also prefer Odyssey over Origins, I didn't find your reasoning very good, considering is at the end of the video where you give your general impression as to why rather than the indepth comments you tend to give. Also, I think the 1st and 2nd DLC of Odyssey literally addresses your suggestion of mixing Odyssey to Origins, with the 1st one exploring the ideas of the Creed and the hidden blade, while the 2nd expanding the first civilization stuff. I don't think these stories are Masterpieces, and AC is the last franchise I would think of great stories, but I guess there's more good than bad here.
For me, to say which is better is if I think about what I would replay if I have the time, it would be Odyssey. Origins has the advantage of the essence of Assassin's Creed. But Odyssey and Greece is just a different level for me. Sorry, but Egypt just isn't beautiful enough or interesting enough for me if I compared it to the things I was able to see in Greece. Origins' combat was stiff for me. Odyssey flowed better and had more variety with abilities instead of just one adrenaline attack. However, the combat I liked the most was Valhalla's.
Origins was incredible but Odyssey was in a league of its own. These vids have popped up on my thread the last few days. I am going to have to have another play through!
A game that embodies the mythological essence of the Assassin's vs Templars dynamic, before the two factions were named as such (but not formed in its essentials), gets called "an AC game by name only" is probably the greatest, laziest, spoutings of dissonance by game reviewers (and some fans) made the past 10 years. Folks, get a clue!
I think in terms of characters, it’s better (well designed compared to the other rpg games of the series). Also the expressions are not mechanic as Valhalla in which you can see the animations randomly being repeated even when it doesn’t match the context
I thought so too ..... And the Spear of Leonidas is a far superior assassination weapon than those awkward wrist things ..... Climb the wall in Athens and then do a lap around it learning how to do running assassinations which when perfected allow you to barely slow down and the animations are really good. When Kassandra/Alexios gets close they throw the spear into their chest and as they run by the reach around and grab it and pull it through without stopping. I took some really good photos of how this mechanic works which isn't easy to do. There are other good spear assassination animations like when she sticks it through, grabs it coming out their chest and bending the over backwards and then stomping on their chest to pull the spear the rest of the way through. Or the one where she sticks it through their ears, grabs both ends and twists to break their neck.
"those awkward wrist things" would have in actuality a lot more practicality for assassins than a big ass flashy spear that you have constantly on your back. It was invented for a reason. But whatever makes you happy.
@@the_seer_0421it is definitely not practical in any way lol. Main reason being it literally could not function the way it does in the game if it were a thing in the real world. But besides that, there's also the dumb idea of having a blade that could accidentally pop out and sever a finger or injure someone you're touching. The spear is far more practical and logical.
@@Zack-vi7is So you think a massive spear head that everyone can see is more practical for an assassin than a hidden blade... Yeah, good luck hiding in plain sight with that one.
its really funny hearing how everyone ends up w a one-person at dinner ending bc i honestly just stumbled into the full-family dinner by trying peace first everytime 😅 esp hearing how hard it is to win over deimos i honestly thought i couldnt but tried anyway and apparently i made all the right choices
Shit I was alone 😂 I kill my step dad an step brother couldn’t save my mom an had to kill my lil brother now I’m doing a second walkthrough trying win over deimos
Could be better acted, but it's really hard to say because they are Greek actors. We're not used to hearing English in the Greek accent. But even so, I appreciate that they have Greek actors instead of British sounding people in Paris.
Major disagree here. Origins is the better game, due to one simple factor and focus. *Quality OVER Quantity* Origins strikes the perfect balance in not bloating its story, gameplay and world as odyssey did. Origins has the superior story, featuring better writing, no choices and one of the best protagonists in gaming. It spans 30 hours and while it feature some level gating, it’s WAY less than odyssey’s FILLER. The gameplay is also superior in origins, combat has variety with defense and offense patterns, different weapons and packs weight, odyssey feels like button mashing with an occasional ability alongside enemy sponges. Stealth in both games isn’t anything special, but origins has superior level design, an actual hidden blade and some stealth tools that odyssey doesn’t have. The world of origins is truly beautiful, varied and MEMORABLE, something odyssey isn’t, with some cities being somewhat distinct but others being copy pasted villages, feeling samey. It’s time to accept that odyssey, even as a stand-alone game, is a bloated mess of an RPG with tedious combat, lackluster stealth and mediocre story. Origins is an excellent game that should never be mentioned in the same sentence as odyssey.
As someone who played this game for close 8k hours and counting, I can tell you that if you bothered with the right armor and engravings, by the time you reach around level 80 you can one shot anyone on nightmare difficulty.
@@parkwaydrivebeast18for real. The stealth gameplay was snappier and more fun in Odyssey, but the awkward parrying and braindead button mashing was absolutely not. Origins did hand to hand combat way better than Odyssey.
Beautiful game in every respect. I thought it would be a very typical rehash of Hellan mythos, but it surprised me by delving into the lesser known events, and cultural history that began the decline of the thalassocracy around 430BC, into hegemony, and the first steps in Democracy which would slowly shift regional power through Persia and the Balkans, and ultimately rest within the Roman Republic before that was reorganised into an Imperial state. Its one of those games you just never want to leave. Even youtubers whom ran content on it seemed to really enjoy the game. My only gripe was that reliance on Herodotus, was very misleading. But otherwise I had very little problem with the game. It was very theatrical, and thats rare in this era of cinematic games. - I had much the same impression with ACIII complete come to think of it. As much as I enjoyed Black Flag & Syndicate immensely, they are much more cinematic outings.
The microtransactions shouldn't be in the game, that's true. But the idea that the game was made this way intentionally to encourage buying time savers isn't true at all. Odyssey is far less grindy than most RPGs out there. But AC players aren't familiar enough with the RPG genre to understand that doing side quests is necessary for basically any RPG ever made. I always felt I leveled too fast in Odyssey without even having an XP boost so tbh that would just ruin it for me. And I don't see any reason why anyone would buy it just to play less of the game. Makes no sense.
Well not all of us I love RPG games if it ain’t RPG I will not spend my money on it I don’t even remember the last time I brought a linear game where it’s not RPG some ac fans are bitchest and whine bout everything an u right u gotta do the side quests to actually level up that’s how RPG work
i like bayek an aya but i never finished orifins i got tired of having to stop progressing in main quest story to go try to grind up some levels just to get more story. odyssey i really didn't care i was playing as a spartan
Lol what I do is grind first before I even start the main quest it’s much better like that I like the side quests for origin an odyssey but for Valhalla I was disappointed but for some reason I keep going back to that foo ass game it’s ass but I like it 😂
I've always been torn on odyssey, part of me loves it and I had some unforgettable moments in it. But the bloat and grind in that game makes me hate it as well.
I have it on good authority that the reason the original Tomb Raider was successful was because guys like playing a female character... something about that 3rd person view.
To each their own however Odyssey is a mess of a game in itself. It is a terrible AC game alongside being a not fun grindy rpg. Origins made me care about Bayek and his quest of vengeance. Egypt felt alive the music the ambience the mirages in the desert. It had it all. In Odyssey sure it’s big yeah you get your moneys worth but the entire map is void of character and interesting locations. Almost every part of Greece looks the exact same and traveling across a bland ocean is not the ideal traversal system. Kassandra has no character she is a hollow husk of the player’s thoughts and feelings and the entire play through of some people could be entirely non canon based on their ending so it’s all pointless. If you enjoy it that’s fine but in no way will it ever be better than Origins
People who diss on Odyssey, most of them haven't played it, Assassin's Creed always had a revenge plot, templar hunt and stealth, if you build your character for stealth, you will one shot, most of the criticism is unfair
After 200+ in Odyssey I can safely say.... It's so much worse than Origins. Too much junk, too much stuff that's so pointless. Just world filling bs for the sake of having to have content. Edit: I didn't even finish the Ancient Order story, got so tired of all the junk.
@@fasteddyuk Who said I didn't enjoy it? Don't just assume things. Besides, yes it does. There's a plethora of branch quests you need to do to continue the story and a large portion is very tedious. The game is enjoyable, but unfortunately most quests are tedious and way too long towards the end.
Played it 3 times and forced myself to liking it but stil I think it's the biggest piece of dog sh*t (and not because of RPG stuff or unrealistic things I actually like origins and Valhalla)
I'm a guy, and I played through the entirety of Odyssey as Kassandra. No regret for my decision to play as her. There's a distinct difference between the acting style of two different characters, and I just thought Kassandra fit the whole vibe far better. Alexios is a bit too poofy and childlike, almost as if he were ripped out of a Saturday morning cartoon. With Valhalla, I played male. And I thought it was fantastic. Closest I got to honouring my genetic roots. The female was interesting, considering she actually respects the fact that her character was bitten in the throat by a wolf.
I'm not sure why you have a problem with the player having the choice to play as either a male or female character? I believe giving the player choices is a good thing e.g. I preferred playing as Kassandra in Odyssey and male Eivor in Valhalla.
I dont have a problem with giving players the choice per se. But here it seems clear to me that the original intention was for Kassandra to be the sole protagonist, and then they quickly had to add Alexios as an option for whatever reason. It doesn't seem unreasonable to posit that the extra work this created would be at least part of the reason why dialogue scenes feel like a lower quality when compared to Origins.
It means they had to write the story to be less personalized for Kassandra because everything had to be ambiguous so it would work with either gender. You notice how no one ever mentions or cares about a woman being such a talented warrior in a time where women weren't typically given an opportunity to participate in wars? They had to do that so the gender swap would work. I love how all of a sudden tho "choice is a good thing" when it's a female protagonist we're talking about but if they had a female option in the original AC games to choose instead of Ezio or Edward Kenway people would be pissed. Executives shouldn't be forcing devs to do anything. If the devs have a good idea for it that they want to implement in the game then find, but that should be up to their discretion. That way it's done properly and not in the half-assed way it's been done in Odyssey and Valhalla.
Earlier this year, I got AC Odyssey on sale with all the DLC content. The First Blade story is a lot like your idea with Xerxes and the first assassin. The story also has Kassandra eventually kind of settling down, having a family and giving up her mercenary career… until tragedy strikes, of course. There were some great moments and a very moving story. The other story, which I think is called Fate of Atlantis, is like a whole extra game. It puts the player in a completely mythic world of kingdoms ruled by different gods. For me, these kingdoms are a sight to behold. Heaven, hell, and a futuristic Atlantis that is one of the most amazing game environments I’ve ever explored… I’m still there in Atlantis. I took a break to play some other games, but I’ll return to wander around again soon…
If you really want to understand the mythology of the Isu then you really need to play Fate of Atlantis and pay attention to what you find and read in all the Repositories ... It tells the most complete history of "Eve", how her Isu lover helped her to escape and how her baby became the first Human-Isu hybrid which starts the bloodlines of Kassandra, Aya, Ezio, Kenway, right up to Desmond Miles ..... One of the biggest problems with the series is there has been a lack of a modern day member of that bloodline other than extremely brief references to William Miles but I don't think he is part of the bloodline, Desmond's mother was ..... The modern day storyline was pretty good up through AC3 but it really fell apart and had no logical progression since then.
@@longjohn526 This is a really good tip. I’m playing through Fate of Atlantis now so I’ll look for these. I’m assuming these Repositories are in the city of Atlantis itself. I just got there, so I’m not sure where to find them…
Origins has far better story and characters, but i got less bored with Odyssey. I didn't had real fun like i would in true AC games, but it's a great game. If you start with the mindset that it's an low budget The Witcher 3 action RPG set in Greece with SOME references to Assassin's Creed, you will like it. But if you go into it expecting to feel like an AC game, you'll hate it
out of all the AC games, this is the sole game where I played a female lead and finished the game as is, spent ~125 hours exploring this game inch by inch, didn't kill either character and got a happy family reunion at the end, best ending in the series in my opinion.
One thing I like bout origin an odyssey was how the npcs will react differently to you and how if u kill a guard they take the dead body out the camp to bury it
I love Odyssey, it is one of my all time favourite games. It is definitely not perfect and I completely understand your criticisms. I still can't decide whether I think the game you should have ditched the AC prefix and gone bigger. Or condensed itself into a smaller experience.
coming back to odyssey after valhalla and mirage ... and boi do I love me some odyssey. I nearly forgot how much of a great time i had with it. best "non-assassin's creed" of the series for me
i’m glad i’m not tripping. i just hopped back into odyssey a month or so ago after a 3 year hiatus but man i struggled with the two cultist clues you mentioned 😂 like the quarry made me mad and i had to google that and then just finished the shipwreck cultist one like a few hours ago but overall the most beautiful game ive ever played and its also one of my favorites ngl
It's cool and weird to see people having completely opposite opinions about this franchise, I can see why you like Odyssey and your reasons are just, but personally I believe this game would have been better if it had little filler and Ubisoft wasn't money minded all the time
I loved odyssey. I 100% cleared it and its dlc content. For me its a 10/10 game that i replay every few month because of the vibe and feeling the game has. Main Quest is nothinh special but its good enough to make you travel through the map. I personally love the rpg-min-maxing side of the game but i guess thats a " me thing " because i love buildcrafting etc, i don't have over 2k hours in Warframe just because i do some fishing. The biggest problem this game has is its name. Assasin's creed. If it wouldn't be an AC game many ppl wouldn't dislike the game so much
I do enjoy Odyssey, origins is possibly my favorite in the franchise. Odyssey I felt like it took me around 20 hours of game time before it really opened up for me Otherwise it felt even more level-gated than anything in origins. I also prefer the combat in origins, I prefer to having the shield and the Shield parrying system I think with this whole franchise though, gameplay and storytelling are of course important, but it can tend to be a bias towards preferred settings and time periods that can really make people enjoy these more than the other For me ancient Egypt is one of the locations and time periods that I have been fascinated by since I was a kid. So it was a joy to explore this whole map even the deserts. Compared to ancient Greece which is beautiful but was never something I was all that interested in. There was also a lot of Greek architecture influence in origins so I still felt like I had seen a lot of the art style in this game already. Locations feel a little less varied as a lot of the islands kind of look and feel the same. But I began to enjoy overall exploration, side quests, the naval combat, and especially the character of Kassandra more and more as I played. It started to feel like this was the best Wonder Woman game you could play lol. So initially I didn't really like this game that much and I was disappointed, but it has now grown on me to be one of the games in the franchise that I prefer Although it also spikes my thalassophobia and fear of sharks.
You know, it's funny, the way you explained how the hidden blade and Hidden Ones should have linked Odyssey to Origins is...kind of how the Legacy of the First Blade DLC plays out. It's not as explicit, but your outline could be used to describe how the DLC plays out, and it does, in fact, link to Origins.
Ah, well maybe I'm not as clever as my mum keeps telling me I am. I've only seen summary videos on it so other than the blade being the one given to Bayek, despite being about 3 times the size in that cinematic, I didn't realise there was any direct connection to Origins.
I BEEN SAID THIS. In every way possible. I’m BLK and even I tell ppl this all the time. From the open world itself, to the longer story line, better DLCs, better combat, better physics/movement, the powers make more sense bc you’re a demigod, more things to do around the map, more worlds to go thru, conquest battles, more loot, arrow crafting, dialogue choices, transmog and more outfit choices. AND Greek mythology monsters you can fight AND more of them. Only thing Origins beats Odyssey in is the Story and the Voice Actors.
about 5 hours in and the one thing I really don't like so far is clearing out camps then getting a mission down the road to go clear that same camp and everyone is dead LOL, to make it worse, the main character says "oo better not get spotted" or something like that but everyone already died lol
Odyssey is literally the only game I 100%'ed on achievements. I just couldn't quit playing until it was ALL done, across ALL expansions. It had a lot going for it, starting with Kassandra.
I really like Odyssey, but there are a couple of things which I dislike, the amount of missions that have you run 6 kilometres to talk to someone and then run back to the quest giver, and also the fact that the ending is so anticlimactic and the good and bad endings are just different versions of a dinner scene. Other than that, loved it.
Legacy of the first blade is one of the DLC’s you get the hidden blade, and you literally hunt ancients. It’s explained as group that started in Persia, and has not made it to the Greek world just yet until the DLC.
1:50 The isseu is, that based on some comments I have seen, those higher ups probably were right. It is an absolute shame, but there are a lot of people mad about even the inclusion of a female option.
Everytine I go and open orogins after completing it im kinda like there is nothing to di and nothing to see yeah you can climb the fucking piramids and kill some aligators but like nothing else. Going back to odyssey trying out different builds, and just roaming around Atlantis and Greece and even fucking Elysium was stunningly beautiful. In my opinion there is no modern game where you can see stuff like that and this beautiful worlds. Yeah red dead gta and stuff have nice graphics and yeah but you sure cant go beat some people in hell in those.
Odyssey as a game improved on origins. The decisions you make affect the end there’s different builds and the side content is fun to complete. However the story for origins I find more compelling and relevant to the series. I also got very bored with the Atlantis DLC it managed to feel more bloated than the game.
Origins is my favorite world they've ever made. There's just something special about it beyond the usual high bar. The world feels like it's really turning, the atmosphere, the imaginative interpretation...but odyssey is just a far more fun game for me. The story, the role playing is all lovely, partying with Socrates etc , the hunted system, the cultists system. It's a complete action RPG adventure whereas origins has a beautiful world, a good levelling system and charismatic lead duo ....but the rest of it is pretty middling by comparison. Odyssey does have a lot of filler, but there's so much quality you can just focus on that. However on a second playthrough, I did find the exp levelling way too slow and was extorted into buying that awful booster.
U played all wrong😂😂😂😂u can rack up bounty on your head they send higher levels mercenaries u can’t farm to rank up u dont have to grind side quests l😂😂😂😂
Played origins in gamepass, after 20+ hours, started odessy then finished campaign after 40hrs. Tried to get back to origins not that exciting anymore.
I have played as both Alexios and Kassandra and actually find Deimos is so much more badass and much more of a deeper character when it's Kassandra, as opposed to Alexios. And this isn't an Assassin's Creed game? It most certainly is. Sure, it doesn't have the props like the hidden blade, which comes into existence later in history, however, it furthers the storyline and the lore of the game. As far as chaos and order goes, chaos and order need to constantly be at war with each other, because they always want to be in control. Think of it as the right and left side of politics. Right is order, left is chaos. If one side gains control, we see despotic and tyrannical rulers. In more modern times we've seen it with Hitler (right) and Stalin (left). Both are so bad that it's almost impossible to distinguish their politics because they are both so similar.
It's all subjective...but bayek is still my favorite protagonist in the series. I really cared about his storyline. And I am a sucker for anything about ancient egypt...I explored every pyramid, tomb...and its photo mode was by far the most I have used in any game
Those stats... upgrading etc... armor.... it all can be upgraded or used properly and u can do some serious damage... makes a huge difference especially for those who like to play or not challenging difficulty settings as myself... and u can sell all not needed gear and trinkets abs have all the money you'll ever need
I think it's a matter of preference between ancient Greece and ancient Egypt. I love both ancient civilizations and even though improvements were made in Odyssey over Origins, such as with the combat, I found Origins to be the bigger breath of fresh air that the series needed. Odyssey, while more of the same, brought with it an unwelcome amount of bloat and "Ubisoftification" which I think this year's excellent Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was partially designed in response to with its stripped back UI and more immersive way of interacting with the environment.
I just started a new game on PS5. I racked up 250+ hours on PC when this first came out (Ubi edition, which has Alexios, so I think he's the default character, though the voice acting means I can only stomach playing as Kass). This game is a great sanbox, though I hate the level gating. I utterly loathe the concept of the same animals levelling by area with a passion, fuelled by one-shotting leopards to the head in Origins, until I crossed an invisible line in the desert and spent an hour battling one I couldn't even flee from on a camel, that eventuially killed me when I ran out of arrows and couldn't get the additional 2000 melee hits in before it managed to touch me. Level gated weapons/armour also doesn't make sense, just make it expensive. Having weapons/armour in your inventory you can't use, despite it being identical to others you can, makes zero sense. The "game" as such seems almost like an afterthought, thrown together at the last minute to give some narrative point to hunting, killing and feeding people to sharks (never gets old). ACIII combat is far more enjoyable to me, although having just finished a replay of III (& IV) on PS5, I had frequent issues of getting killed by humans & animals when the buttons seemed to stop working. A lot of the time it was circle/counter, but often enough, I'd be surrounded by enemies and whacking square would just have me twirling my weapon like there were no enemies, despite being surrounded by them. I think it might be a remaster glitch as I have no recollection of this in my PS3 or PC runs a decade+ ago. Connor could pet dogs, cats, pigs, sheep, goats, turkeys, chickens and cows. Years later, we get a breathless bit of PR about Bayek being able to pet cats. ..
I am.just like you oddisey is one of my.favorite ac games I ever played xasue just like you I love Greek.Mythology and I went to Greece this past summer and I loved it. So.i totally agree with you
Huh, I'm only halfway through the video, but I think that's the first time I've ever heard anyone be critical of Melissanthi Mahut's performance as Kassandra. I think it helps make her be one of the most charismatic and engaging game leads I've ever encountered. It's a remarkably ballsy mix of arrogance, rage, compassion, wit, and at times melancholy. Alexios's performance is hilariously terrible by comparison, but I think Melissanthi is perfect. Playing her as a fuckboy swaggering across the Greek world is also an immense amount of fun... The flirting and 'romance' can be as bad as an older BioWare game (and the possible kiss with Aspasia is thoroughly bizarre), but quite often the script and framing makes her come across as a character who just really enjoys sex. There's nothing self-conscious or po faced, and that's still quite rare in media. I wonder if she'd have been allowed that quality had she been the only lead. Doubtful. For the setting/era and Kassandra, I genuinely loved Odyssey, and it'll likely remain my favourite AC (it's the game that made me play several others after I couldn't stand Brotherhood). But as game design? Boy, does it have immense issues, just like Origins and Valhalla. And I hated the Atlantis stuff. Those DLCs were like torture. For Kass and the world depicted, I still rather miss Odyssey.
I can't remember exactly what I said in the video, but the only issue I remember having with Kassandra was the actual voice work. It sounds like we played Kassandra in a similar way and I really enjoyed it, I have no issues at all with Kassandra as a character. But compared to other entries in this series, particularly following Origins, I just felt that the voice acting was a significant step down in terms of quality. Something I didn't consider at the time was that Kassandra's voice actor is delivering lines in English despite that not being thier mother tongue, which would obviously affect the performance. I don't think the Assassin's Creed series gets enough credit for the quality of the voice work, but Odyssee marks the turning point for me in that quality, with this and future entries not keeping up to the same standard as the rest of the franchise.
@@borangedunn Well, we'll have to heartily disagree on that note. I tend to only see praise for Kassandra's performance, which is why the comments in this surprised me. For Alexios, absolutely, that's common. Melissanthi is a fluent (native?) English speaker. She's Canadian-Greek, and is a RADA graduate. There's no language barrier. Perhaps it's how she's emphasising Greek that throws you off, but then again she's essentially a native of both cultures, so it's not as if it's an English actor affecting another accent. Was the overall quality in the rest of the game weaker than prior games? I'm not sure. I agree AC does tend to have strong lead performances, even if it usually completely wastes them (Arno says hi... ), but I remember wonkier roles that weren't main cast in past games. Origins - landscape aside - left such a little impression on me that I can't remember how that was re voice work. I do think Aya's accent leads to a notably worse performance than Kassandra's. Alix Wilton-Regan is a very good actor, but I do think she struggles with accents; Alt in Cyberpunk, the female Nomad in Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and I'd add Aya. That is a very English actor having to affect a completely different accent, and I don't really think it works. I put a lot of hours into Valhalla, but I can't really remember that, either. Other than Eivor being very dull compared to Kassandra. Perhaps the A/RPGs suffer more given how much larger their productions are, and how much more voice acting there likely is. Compared to most A/RPGs - which is what these recent overly large titles cosplay as - I feel the standard is pretty conventional. Even BioWare games always had some poor NPC acting.
Odyssey and it's dlc were some of the most fun I've ever had in a video game

@@cvprasad9620why do you say the dlcs are so bad if i may ask
@@dominicgaming7910 For me personally they weren't engaging! If you played the main story then DLC is the same shit, each quest has the same design. The Mythology DLC was the worst, I personally couldn't immerse myself into that world.

Having played every assassins creed, most of them twice, Origins takes the cake for me.
Yeah me to, the main characters in Odyssey were about as interesting as dried bread or laundry day

Yeah I think in terms of side quest and gameplay I prefer odyssey over origins but I prefer origins for the story and characters
Evie would've been awesome as the only character in syndicate but origins story is good and bayek is on of my favorite characters
I liked odyssey but had to change my mindset to it being a Greek simulator and it was fine. I liked the sailing and open seas. But I’m bias because I love Ancient Greece and it’s aesthetic.
I agree, the 3 RPG games definitely require a change of headspace to get the most out of them.
As a father I am biased towards Bayek. That said, I prefer Origins, but understand if people like odyssey more.
Origins for the story and character aspect, and odyssey for the gameplay and side quests and overworld and diverse environments.
Do you?

Yep. It’s a work of absolute genius. When I jump in that game, I feel like I’m in another world…

Yeah there was a mention of the hidden blade but it was a DLC and Canon ending to set up a connection to Origins.
Based on the comments, schools don’t teach the meaning of the word “objectively” anymore.
I mean, the fact that in all of the three games as far as i know every one liked the female characters more, so it actually stupid on ubi softs part.
No it’s not
"those awkward wrist things" would have in actuality a lot more practicality for assassins than a big ass flashy spear that you have constantly on your back. It was invented for a reason. But whatever makes you happy.
Those awkward wrist things huh? I see someone didn't play ac games from the very first title and so not into its lore...
Odyssey might have fared better if it was seen as a side AC game. like say, Mercenary's Creed.
Nope. I prefer Origins.
I did enjoy Odyssey too, though.

Could be better acted, but it's really hard to say because they are Greek actors. We're not used to hearing English in the Greek accent. But even so, I appreciate that they have Greek actors instead of British sounding people in Paris.
100% agree. Odyssey is better in every way, it just has issues that Origins doesn't have.
Major disagree here.
Origins is the better game, due to one simple factor and focus.
*Quality OVER Quantity*
Origins strikes the perfect balance in not bloating its story, gameplay and world as odyssey did.

I think the combat in oddysey is terrible the damage sponge enemies are horrible
What grind?
I’ve played odyssey, and I hate it.
@@Geekoo85You don't have to do stuff that you consider pointless. 200 hours is a silly amount of time to spend in a game you don't enjoy! 😂
I agree and I would be much more inclined to play a game if there was a choice.
I couldn't finish odyssey, but I played through origins 3 full times. Origins is my 2nd favorite of all time right behind rdr2.

literally playing it now, just came to check something on youtube regarding an fsr 3 mod, then saw this
fully agree... its awesome
Heaven, hell, and a futuristic Atlantis that is one of the most amazing game environments I’ve ever explored…
I’m still there in Atlantis.
I nearly forgot how much of a great time i had with it. best "non-assassin's creed" of the series for me
Odyssey is a masterpiece, you can literally travel across the whole Greece.
It's kind of a mini Greece :).
But origins is set in the entirety of egypt

i’m glad i’m not tripping. i just hopped back into odyssey a month or so ago after a 3 year hiatus but man i struggled with the two cultist clues you mentioned 😂 like the quarry made me mad and i had to google that and then just finished the shipwreck cultist one like a few hours ago but overall the most beautiful game ive ever played and its also one of my favorites ngl
Odyssey beats both Origins and Valhalla. I love Kassandra as a character and her voice actor is spot on.
This is my favorite assassins creed game in recent memory
Odyssey I felt like it took me around 20 hours of game time before it really opened up for me
Otherwise it felt even more level-gated than anything in origins. I also prefer the combat in origins, I prefer to having the shield and the Shield parrying system
I think with this whole franchise though, gameplay and storytelling are of course important, but it can tend to be a bias towards preferred settings and time periods that can really make people enjoy these more than the other
For me ancient Egypt is one of the locations and time periods that I have been fascinated by since I was a kid.
So initially I didn't really like this game that much and I was disappointed, but it has now grown on me to be one of the games in the franchise that I prefer
Although it also spikes my thalassophobia and fear of sharks.
“Which quest? F*** you all of them” 💀💀💀
You know, it's funny, the way you explained how the hidden blade and Hidden Ones should have linked Odyssey to Origins is...kind of how the Legacy of the First Blade DLC plays out.
The Atlantis dlc in Odyssey was off the charts good.
about 5 hours in and the one thing I really don't like so far is clearing out camps then getting a mission down the road to go clear that same camp and everyone is dead LOL, to make it worse, the main character says "oo better not get spotted" or something like that but everyone already died lol
😂🤣 it use to throw me but when I’m high I be laughing
Odyssey is literally the only game I 100%'ed on achievements. I just couldn't quit playing until it was ALL done, across ALL expansions. It had a lot going for it, starting with Kassandra.
I really like Odyssey, but there are a couple of things which I dislike, the amount of missions that have you run 6 kilometres to talk to someone and then run back to the quest giver, and also the fact that the ending is so anticlimactic and the good and bad endings are just different versions of a dinner scene. Other than that, loved it.
For me personally Origins is better
Legacy of the first blade is one of the DLC’s you get the hidden blade, and you literally hunt ancients. It’s explained as group that started in Persia, and has not made it to the Greek world just yet until the DLC.
U actually get a hidden blade ?
This guy put Origins below AC1, Rogue, Syndicate and Odyssey. Absolute muppet
yep
real
Played ODYSSEY 3000 hours...
Odyssey as a game improved on origins. The decisions you make affect the end there’s different builds and the side content is fun to complete. However the story for origins I find more compelling and relevant to the series. I also got very bored with the Atlantis DLC it managed to feel more bloated than the game.
I love Odyssey more than Origins. But both are very good games.
I love Greek and Vikings methology
Odyssey my favourite assassins creed game
I remember the combat being easy….until i reached the atlantis dlc.
Both are great games .. odyssey is slightly better imo
U played all wrong😂😂😂😂u can rack up bounty on your head they send higher levels mercenaries u can’t farm to rank up u dont have to grind side quests l😂😂😂😂
Engravings were one of the great parts imo
Played origins in gamepass, after 20+ hours, started odessy then finished campaign after 40hrs. Tried to get back to origins not that exciting anymore.
i havent stopped going back to origins
well yes but actually no ...but also yes and no at the same time....
all and all both are great .....
It's time to admit it but it's not everyone agrees but I still respect your opinion valhala is still worse
I’ve only played the RPG games and I’ve always hated the modern stuff.
this dude has the most absolutely rancid, abhorrent, sickening ac takes ever
Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla are all Masterpiece's!
Not true!
Valhalla is shit
Not Valhalla lol
Origins was way better imo especially story wise
I got the complete edition for 80% discount, patience is the key. 🤣
Years later, we get a breathless bit of PR about Bayek being able to pet cats. ..
Well to fix the exp is go where the island of the arena is do all the side quest
I am.just like you oddisey is one of my.favorite ac games I ever played xasue just like you I love Greek.Mythology and I went to Greece this past summer and I loved it. So.i totally agree with you
I loved all the games Valhalla aswell
Odyssey one of the best RPGs ever Origins actually a AC game
AC Odyssey's main story sucks, but its side quests as a greek myth/culture fan are the best thing I've ever played.
I love Cassandra so I’m a bit biased 😂❤
She is something special haha
Yeeaah...no tf its not lol✌🏾
