i love the 6d ii! got it a 1 year ago and i matched it with a 50mm 1.8 I am getting the sigma 35mm 1.4 and I am very excited to see the results, I think the camera is still more than amazing in 2023 the sharpness and the colors you get out of it is phenomenal. i wouldn't truly recommend it for videographers but for low budget professional photographers it's more than amazing
I agree, yea the autofocus is clumped, yes the dynamic range is bad, but 26 megapixel is plentiful especially on sharp sigma 35 1.4 lens !
I just got back from a photoshoot with my 6D II 1 hour ago ! Shooting portraits i don’t need much dynamic range anyways so it’s still a good camera in 2023 you’re right:)
I do want to sell it one day tho. Perhaps get the R8
What about first full frame camera ?
Should i go with it or completely switch to a sony a7 ii or a sony a6400 ?
Which one is better for overall and specifically video
2 lakh rupees is low budget?
Whats 6d ii problems for videographers?
@@ahmadelshbasy3222 hey man, it’s just poor sharpness overall. You’ll get better videos with your hand phone really
While you make some reasonable points, I can't agree with you on most of your conclusions. In fact the 6D mkII is a fantastic camera, and one of the things I like about it the most is how under rated it is and has been. That kept it from being highly sought after by people who are shopping for bells & whistles, rather than thinking critically about actual photography.
I will say I guess I am one of those "old pops" you referred to. I've been doing photography for more than 35 years now. I probably have underwear older than you are, so yeah... But as someone who started out with a 35mm SLR I have appreciation for photography and am less excited by fancy tech. I have used a bunch of cameras, including Ricoh, Pentax, Canon AE1, Canon 5D mkII, Canon T5i, and a few others over the years. My favorite is hands down the 6DmkII. It certainly has some drawbacks - like the clustered focus points. Yeah that can be a bit annoying. But they are all cross-type, so there's great sharpness and using a focus & recompose approach it is easily overcome.
I don't do video, so will just accept all you said there, just that it doesn't matter to me. But this camera is a solid, well built, weather sealed, sharp, reliable full frame camera. It is the lightest FF DSLR available, has an articulating "vari-angle" LCD and contains more features than most people will likely need. I use it professionally, and have for a number of years now. I won't give it up until it dies, and then I will have to go mirrorless because all the "gear-tographers" have made technology more important than photography, with camera makers happy to oblige while making tons of money.
Correct, I’d even say this camera will continue to stand the test of time like many iterations before it , canon drastically improved its mirrorless cameras but that doesn’t mean anyone should scoff off these older cameras. I’ve made a living off shooting 6D II and this video is only just a rant for when the 6D II doesn’t cut it for me , but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a working camera , how do you go about with flash photography with this camera for event ? The clustered focus is a pain for me
You can currently pick a used one for roughly 600-800 usd, which is a killer price for an “entry” camera. Hard to compare tbh
6D mark II for photography is still solid ! I still use it just not for video …
I own a 6D Mark ii and it's a beast... sure not a comparison with any mirrorless or something like the 5D Mark 4.. but still a beast in it's own right. I intend on getting a Canon R and a Canon R5 soon, God willing. But I will not be letting go of my 6D Mark ii.. it's a great camera.
It’s a darling of a camera. It’s my first camera and I sleep next to it just because haha.. but times change and I’ve moved completely to the mirrorless systems and never going back to optical view finder
6D Mark 2 has PDAF on the sensor with face detect, so yes you do actually get BETTER AF in live view then you do with viewfinder, which is kinda ironic. Cause a few years ago, it was the complete opposite.
@@SMGJohn I see, how the turn tables have turned
If you wanna grow your channel, it really helps to say what currency you are using. It really helps to make it more internationally friendly so that people can convert for themselves!
Just thought it would help to share my experience. I have been using the 6D mark ii since its release for photojournalism work as well as various sports and events photography on the side. I've used it in both a casual and professional setting and honestly if you know how to use the 6D mark ii well it can definitely perform in both.
Firstly, just to clarify I agree that in 2024 there are better options available, but if people ever see a second hand 6D mark ii in good condition, I really urge people to give it a shot, especially so if their focus is photography and not videography. If you wanna fork out money for a brand new camera body, then i'd say invest it in a newer model. People need to understand that the 6D mark ii is a high-level enthusiast camera and not a professional camera (its even marketed as such on the canon website). Naturally so, it will lack in some areas as compared to others because the enthusiast doesn't need as much compared to a pro.
I think one thing that really makes the 6D mark ii competitive as compared to other older DSLRs is the flip screen. All modern full-frame mirrorless cameras have it, but till this day, the 6D mark ii remains the only Canon full-frame DSLR with a flip screen.
The 6D mark ii is also a very good starting point to start building your kit collection as well. The EF lenses are still one of the best around and can be used on some Canon film cameras (the newer SLRs like the eos630 etc) and even in Canon's mirrorless line with an adaptor. That makes it one of the most versatile lenses ever!!!!
The clumped autofocus honestly was more than sufficient for me in casual projects. I think its better actually because it forces me to think more about composition. Focus and recomposing is definitely something I recommend people learn and do. In the professional setting things work differently, its definitely more fast-paced and you don't have the time to be doing all that, so thats when the clumped autofocus becomes an issue.
The 6.5fps shooting speed and buffering time can be a problem, but it has never been one for me. If you can't catch your shot when by the time the camera buffer kicks in, honestly put down the camera and take the time to learn and understand what you are photographing so that you can shoot with an intention and shoot in a way that isn't intrusive to your subject. Many experienced professionals will tell you this, and I myself live by it.
Yes the dynamic range is not the best. I feel that at any time beyond blue hour where I crank my ISO to around 6400, the dynamic range starts to drop off as well. Shooting around 400-800 ISO for the most part is very comfortable and it doesn't introduce an unnecessary amount of noise that I can't cope with.
Overall I really do recommend the 6D mark ii if you are a high level enthusiast, or maybe even someone new to the professional industry who needs a body to start out. Specs-wise its definitely not the most comprehensive, but the limitations imo helps you really hone your skills well to transition into the professional industry. Build-wise, it is honestly still one of the best ergonomically, and its flip screen pretty much made it a future proof model. Just my 2 cents!!! Thanks for reading and hope this helps!!!!
Absolute ! What’s your camera setup now ?
I bought one brand new last month at a flash sale for 700 bucks. I got a used 50mm and 85mm f1.8 and the 24-105 f4 ii in perfect condition, and have a great set up for under 1400 bucks. I absolutely love it. It gives me professional results in photography and it is fun to use. I think you can learn to become a better photographer with the 6d ii instead of the latest mirrorless with all the bells and whistles. For Video work I have been using an X-T4 for two years now and am super happy. But for photography I find the 6d ii more satisfying.
Yes! The 6D II body ergonomics isn’t one to retire!
I have a Canon 6D mKII. Great camera, you can do double exposition that some Canon R cannot do anymore.... also you have the GPS that most new camera doesnt have.... and i like my photos from the 6D MKII 🙂
@@AlainLafleche1 yes that’s brilliant, 6D II is still a place in our equipment bag
Nikon D750 or Canon 6d Mark ii?
Canon 6D mark ii owner here. I agree with this review fully. I’m an amateur photographer, and the 6D mark ii has been more than enough for the stuff I’m putting out. But this video does a good job of highlighting its cons…
Heavily invested in the EF system right now, with a 20-70 F2.8 and a 70-200 F4…hard to switch to mirrorless
I did the jump to mirrorless! Now with R7 with adapter to EF lens. It’s pretty good ! Sold off the 6D Mark II to make way for 24mm 1.4 mark II lens haha!
@@rodricchanhi.. does tamron 18-400 lens works good in R7? I have canon 200d and wanted to switch to R7.. What are your thoughts about this?
sadly yeah i invested to EF lenses now it's really hard to shift on mirrorless, and I'm using 6d. planning to buy 5div but 6dii is my option, and yet 6dii is a big disappointed DSLR. I wish 6d mark 1 has a af video :(
For sport photography + night better 6d ii or nikon d3s for better image quality? Btw I'm beginner at fullframe 😅
weird review, maybe the one who recommended you this cam was talking about the 2016 1DX which was quite good back then with Videos and did cost actually roundabout 6-7000 dollars.. The 6Dmk2 was about 2500. It's still a decent camera picture wise
I think you meant they took the 80D's auto focus system rather than the sensor.
Oh yes! You’re right my bad
I bought my Canon 6D Mark II on July 5, 2019 and I was happy with this camera being an Event Photographer based in the Philippines. Until I decided to sell it on September 26, 2023 because I realized my camera doesn't get any younger since I used it for more than 4 years! Btw, hope you can invite me to have a project collaboration in your country. I'd been in KL twice for events photo coverage in 2019 and 2022.
let me know Edwin, connect on instagram will see each other ! @Rodric_Chan
Regards, do you noticed an improvement in face tracking after upgraded the firmware (6d mk2)?
Thank :)
Hey there, firmware updates doesn’t improve in the face track by the way, it’s only for software support
which one is better for photography - Canon 6D mark ii or Canon RP ?
Hands down the RP
You get extra eye detect, digic 8 and EVF feature. But becareful because friends RP couldn’t get the flash to fire somehow… if you’re using flash then just be wary of it ? Unsure again what’s going on it should fire with flash …
@@rodricchan I'm in the same situation. Photography 99%... I can get both body for same price. Only thing worries me about RP is battery.. Confused
@@ShebeerPrince haha, if it’s between 6D II and RP, definitely RP. Yeap understand that battery isn’t good for RP but is forgivable for the bump in DIGIC 7 to DIGIC 8 With eye detect
@@rodricchan you're changing my opinion i think. Since i have Canon EF 50 1.8, Sigma 85 1.4 HSM Art, I thought I'll stick with 6D2. I don't how well these lens work with RP + adapter... May bad comments also about RP because of battery and some people also about bad focusing. So confusing. Especially since i can both for same price.
@@ShebeerPrince legacy lens like the 50mm 1.8 and your sigma will work better on 6D II because you don’t need the adapter.
On the RP you’ll need the adapter and to be fair is going to have connection issues if you wobble the lens a lot like I do when I’m shooting fast pace weddings. So when you lose connection, you’ll see your F stop goes infinity and you can’t take a photo until you reconnect the lens.
I’ve used both before and I see leaps in quality when shooting DIGIC 8 as opposed to DIGIC 7.
Eye detect is such a bliss for photography, and EVF is better than optical for my work.
But yes, finally to put your battery problems to ease, do check out RP’s extender battery solutions.
I’ve seen videos online on third party battery grips working wonders. You basically can now use two LP-E17 and your camera is bulkier now (easier handling) but I haven’t tried it out myself.
For a safer route, do know that 6DII is overall better built with more buttons dials and easier photo video switch access than the RP…
Both RP and 6D II will serve you well, in the end it doesn’t really matter because.. you’ll probably retire and graduate to better cameras like the canon R6 or R6 II in about 2-3 years time so don’t fret too much about these two (RP and 6D II).
In the spirit of selling back cameras 3 years from today, RP holds higher resell value than 6D II haha! I bought mine At approx 1900 USD in 2017 and resell at 670 USD USED In 2023..
RP at 1299 usd in 2019 is going for 699 USD USED in 2023
The demand for RP is wayyy higher than 6D II, selling them should be a breeze, my friend Walter @walterfernandez sold his copy in 2 days to upgrade to the R6
I do concert photography and I shoot interviews... People recommended me the 6DII... I bought it about a month ago. For pictures, it's good. When I nail focus, the pictures look great. But the 3 videos I shot with it look bad... Videos on my 1200D seemed sharper somehow. Now I don't know if I should get a dedicated video camera like the Lumix G85 or trade in the 6DII with a mirrorless camera.
Right ? I sold mine to make way for an R7… the video capabilities on newer mirrorless cameras are superb even at 1080p.
Yess LUMIX G85 is superbbb for video
I think you made an error on the original pricing of 6D II. The price was around $2700 when new. You are probably thinking of dx series. The camera is great for photography and some of the mirrorless will never have ergonomics as good as some of the DSLRs. I shoot Sony A7 and is not the most comfortable camera to hold. Canon 6d just feels so good in your hand as do 5d series as well. I love all the 5d series and their color renditions, however for efficient event type of work, my A7 is much easier to manage. Again it depends what you use your cameras for.
Sony a7 series has terrible grips, I kid you not I held one with V1s and my palm had a piercing pain 😂
I’m based in Malaysia prices vary for these to yours
it's all about the price.
hi! would you choose 80D or 6D mark ii today ? 😁
@@galianadjordjevic8006 good question, the thing is I won’t recommend either TODAY. 😂These are outdated systems, while they work for photography, it will be hindering you if you’re a working professional.
If you’re really into used camera market, may I suggest 90D instead ?
I had for 5 years now and wow its a fantastique camera. The skin tone is a beast, It feel so strong and is it, as wildlife photographer is a really important point. For me the single slot was really the disapointed thing. Video is terrible and I agree, the dynamique range is not so bad, I mean if you know using your camera, is rarely usefull. And now you can find it for 800€ that real deal. You can find really low cost objectif, again huge deal. There is better camera, its obvious, but I agree I love this camera
Yes it’s a marvellous camera for photos ! Great for backup camera as dslr age is where form factor and durability counts. I dropped my eos R7 one time, just one time and the metal hinge bent !! Haha! My 6D mark II dropped on the road, on the floor; off the tripods and it tanked everything.
I love my 6D Mark II. The problem is that too many photographers are not using it for its intended purpose.
What do you use it primarily for ?
@@rodricchanfor video content 😂
Magic Lantern to 80D and 6d ii would correct some of little points.
@@arnisleite3214 what’s that ?
Theres no magic lantern for those
The video looks fine. I really don't see why everyone says it's so bad. I guess I'll keep watching 6dII vids until I convince myself they look bad.
@@PaulChoate-s4v ok, do this then you’ll see it
Go to digital stabilisation click enhanced mode.
See your footage in your computer
@@rodricchan So, don't use digital stabilization enhanced mode. Problem solved.
@@PaulChoate-s4v hmm.. sure man 😂
You do a “review” in 2023 talking about technical aspects that everyone knows. Focus and recompose is the way most of us take pics. With respect: you’ll very often discover that the 6Dm2 takes far better pictures (colors, “look”, etc) than most of the new apsc cameras. Dynamic Range! Oh Lord what a tragedy!
yes, a good photographer will run leaps around using older cameras. in the end, It is what works for you and what doesn't.. flash photography is too limiting on the 6D II for me though, but street and everyday photography is perfect. BTW this camera dynamic range i believe is sitting at 10.5? ( I cant recall) at ISO 100. Its not good :(
Things happen little weird in my experience, I went from Nikon D750-Canon 90D-Nikon Z6-Canon R-Canon 6d mark ii lolz and I found it on par with Canon R yes little bit dynamic range issue in shadow but I do weddings with it and it works perfect and jpegs colours are better than Canon R and EF lenses are so cheap compare to RF it's good bargain in 2023.
Oh for weddings absolute, anything else it’s just probably a lackluster! Cheers man !
Why would you keep swapping models and brands? I'm a Canon shooter, but have to admit the D750 is vastly superior to the 6Dii, especially for weddings! The EOS R is vastly superior too, in terms of autofocus and dynamic range. DSLRs are the worst choice these days, especially in limited AF area coverage, harder to see the subject in low light and having to focus and recompose (or be limited in composition options for moving subjects). Also, exposure simulation with a live histogram makes exposing in tricky lighting conditions far easier.
@@cooloox I totally agree regarding Nikon D750 is superior than 6D II but it all about preference- For me I external flash for portraits and never found any issue in image qualities also If I shoot 1000 images I have to edit very less than Nikon those days, Colors are better for my style, never had an issue on autofocus too even for groups DSLR focus is more accurate, On my EOS R it showed focus but when u see on PC it's most of the time back focused. so no camera is bad it's about us which is better for us and what we want in camera-for nature and landscape I always prefer Nikon for better DR. D700 my fav of all dslr I have ever used though. Legend.
For photos: I like what you said about the 6D Mark II at 9:50. I've been getting excellent IQ photos from mine as well.... the best I've ever had actually. I like the 90D as well for certain pics... good for focused pics because of the crop factor.
Hey man, Image for photography is great, but you won’t be able to push pull recover highlight and shadow much, you have to go out and try an R6 and see how much color manipulation and recover can be done !
@@rodricchan - That is what I heard exposure photo-bracketing is for. I have yet to use it... but it looks cool.
@@FeedScrnI believe it’s taking 3 photos, one over expose one under expose and one normal exposed and stacking into an image. This is HDR Mode. Ya that’s ok

For a new photography for portraits would you recommend purchasing the 6d or another camera? If another which one. So torn on Mirrorless or dslr. Thanks for any help
@@bolanos171 For portraits, if you happen to do serious edits on highlight and shadows with intense color grading, Canon R6.
If you happen to be like me, shooting straight out of camera look, any full frame dslr is OK.
As to your question on mirrorless or dslr,
Mirrorless is newer with more tools to guide your photography (Electronic View Finder) and cheaper bang for buck compared to Dslr.
However; dslr ergonomics are nice, you don’t feel “cheap” and dslr’s are robust. Dropped a few times it’s still taking photos. I too believe they are better protected too as the sensor isn’t right up close to the lens.
Truly depends on what you value most.
@@rodricchan thank you so much bro! Do you have a video of this review?
the poor video quality is it only during 60fps or does it apply to 1080p 24/30fps as well
Good question, It’s for all 1080p modes. Only in timelapse it goes to 4K and that’s perfectly fine.
There’s just no details in the 1080p at all in all modes..
Think of 6D II as a good photo camera but a really crappy video camera

Your comments regarding dynamic range for stills (you said you need to shoot above ISO 400) demonstrate you don't know what dynamic range is and probably don't know the camera very well.
Perhaps you haven’t gone even more in depth into the science of camera dynamic range?
Natively cameras aren’t best at ISO 100. Most beginners fall into this trap
Why do you think CLOG OR SLOG are never at 100 for video ?
Same principles apply for photo !
Try looking up “Native ISO” to get a better understanding.
Hope this helps
Can you please square the loss of DR at ISO 100 to dxomark measurements. My limited understanding is that CLOG should onlly be used at base ISO. Lower ISO will result in the loss of DR (or maybe tonal range).
mine is soft as hell
I know right…. It’s maddening
