Canon 90D vs Canon 6D Mark ii

- Canon 90D vs Canon 6D Mark ii, wow, what a tough video to make! these two cameras are so different being full frame vs crop sensor that I really struggled to come up with a fair comparison. As a result I had to go with more of my opinion than actual proof of what I believe. With that said, I still believe this video may be helpful to someone who is on the fence. Hopefully I provided enough information for someone to make an informed decision.

I don’t have money for 2 cameras. This is gonna be a hard choice.
Aaron, found your channel over a year ago when I was deciding on getting a DSLR. You helped me choose the t7i and I’ve been real happy with it. It’s great to see your channel growth bro. Keep it up!
I’m leaning heavily towards a 6D for image quality and low light picture capabilities. Thanks again!
Well done. I have been researching this topic for a while now in anticipation of buying a camera/video device. After 100s of hours of RUclips videos and reviews THIS is the exact conclusion I came to as well. Thanks Aaron.
This was very helpful, especially where you explained that the 90D can accommodate both EF AND EFS lenses... makes me rethink my desire to invest in a full frame camera at the moment... I appreciate it!
I am so glad to find your video review on these two cameras. i spent hours to find answers on all my questions what camera to pick for my needs. I was hesitating because the cost is pretty similar on used 6d mark ii and new 90d and both cameras are great. But you explained stright to the point all prons and cons of usage in terms of photography and videograpthy. It helped a lot. Thanks for making this video.
Thank you, Aaron. This was a very thoughtful review. My focus is photography and not video. But, I'm leaning towards a 90D at the moment due to the fact that I can still use my current lenses. You really given me lots to think about. Thank you again and well done!
Sir, your camera and equipment reviews are always stellar. It’s most appreciative how you provide real and honest reviews. This one most definitely huts that same mark. It was a hard comparison but thank you for demystifying this curiosity for us enthusiasts. The 90D is most definitely on the purchase list. 😊
Thank you. Have watched many videos of comparing these two ones and still couldn’t make a choice but your video was simple and much more detailed than others! Live video comparison sample was exactly what I was looking for! 👍👍👍
It may have been harder than you thought for you to make the video - but I 'm happy to say that your conclusion was clearer than I expected and has made my decision much easier: I want to do both, so I'll take the 90D :) Thank you for your help!
Update: I've had my 90D for a few weeks and so far I am perfectly happy with it 😊
I must say, I have been on the fence about which of these to go with, and your case for video+photo has pushed me to the 90D. Thanks so much for this great video!!
same here i do both photo and video and alredy have an 80D that am so happy with that 4K capability just made my mind up
Great video as usual. I appreciate how you don't bog down your reviews with specs. They truly are practical.
You're so right about the video vs photo. I picked up the 6D Mark II back in November (despite it being an older camera) simply because I knew it would meet my photography needs and I don't do any video at all. Plus at the time they both were the same price and I figured I might as well get the full frame while it was on sale.
Thanks for the review. It was super useful as i am considering switching to full frame and did not know that i have to take into account all the extra glass. Helped me a lot ! Keep up the good work!
Thank you for the way you compared this 2 cameras. It is so far, the best comparable video i have ever seen.
You're reviews are awesome! Thank you for such in-depth information.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! After so many reviews and comparisons you hit all points I was missing to decide between these two cameras. Definitely subscribing to your channel.
I love how you do a side by side comparison not just talking specs👍 thanks for the review good job
Best comparison I've seen yet. Super helpful, thank you!
Thanks very much Aaron, really useful advice. I have an 80d and was thinking of upgrading. All that I read about the 90d, though, was about its video capabilities, but I've only once ever shot video on the 80d. So your comment about going for the 6d for the photography, or the 90d for video work, clinched it for me. The other detail that persuaded me was a diagram I saw of the relative sizes of the aps-c and full-frame sensors.
Camera shopping is really hard to do, especially when your line of work requires you to do both at the same time. I could potentially buy a 90d for video and keep using my 80d for photos, but I need to find a camera with great low-light capabilities.
Great video, Aaron! I think too many people are obsessed over sensor size..especially when it comes to video creators. On my channel I stress the importance of lighting, shot composition, and last but not least, CONTENT! An interesting shot on an average camera is better than a boring/ordinary shot on a top camera.. for anyone reading this comment, let that statement sink in...
Nice job! Very helping as I wade through the sea of options I am researching.
Just subscribed, great explanation on these two different camera's. I only want full frame but now I am doing Video training and the tracking feature on the 90D is hard to ignore. great video
The 90d has so much more detail. That's crazy!
32MP on APS-C sensor vs 26MP on full frame sensor. Think about it again. Which one will produce more noise?
@@genecatcher1 More information in smaller space, more compression, more side effects. I think 26mp was already good, the camera looks perfect. I came from Nikon and I think she came to fight with the D500, which is one of the best cameras made by Nikon and is cropped.
I never tried it but if it delivers photos with good results over 10 thousand iso because I saw it on the D500.
Aaron, just came across this video and found it very informative and straightforward. I like it and have now subscribed! Keep the videos coming!
This was an amazing video. It really clears upon which camera I should get now and which camera I can hold off on getting, so thank you.
I love your video Aaron, your so down to earth and real. Great information, keep up the great work.
For the past month, i am trying to sell my 90D and get the 6Dii but i am hesitant because I don’t want to lose the video features of the 90D. Now i am keeping my 90D After seeing your vlog. . . And especially now i got myself a 5Div to take care of the photos..
Thanks for the video, new subscriber here from the uae
Excellent comparison, thank you! i will go with the 90D, since I'm more interested in video.
Absolute Brilliant video Aaron, I was confused which one to buy from these two options, As my preference is more to the video I will prefer 90D with Sigma 18-35mm lens.
Your video is very beneficial in terms of choice.
Thanks for making this video, you are absolutely gem :)
Thanks for your honest opinion, currently ton between these cams, but I think after watching this, I am leaning more towards mark ii considering the type of photography I'm trying to get into. Thanks again!
If photography is your main focus then I'd absolutely recommend the 6D Mark ii.
I love your video, I bought Canon 6D mark 2 and after 3 weeks I have decided to sell it on a second hand market, I am just hugely disappointed with video quality, and this decision was made even before I saw your video. Thank you for honest review.
Thank you so much for doing this comparison!
This helped me decide I need to upgrade my 5d m2 and sl2 to these 2 cameras, thank you!
Thanks for this. Next week I am going on a shoot with someone who has the 6D. I have the 90D, so I am looking forward to seeing the results
Own the 6dII, wouldn't change with a 90D as I do photography, seldom videos. Upgraded from a 60D and love the 'fullframe'. But as a carry around I bought a Fuji X100V recently and also love it.
The 90D in photography is better for sports or action though, I guess one hs to know what one wants it for. Both are good choices and no camere fits it all...
My 17-35mm 2.8L gets real wide on the full frame. My 75-300 IS gets extra reach on my crop sensor giving me 480mm equivalent. As for video...not there yet.
Great video mr.Aron , Now I know which camera is right for me, your videos always useful.
.6D mark ii will be the second camera for me after the T7i, you helped me with both cameras thanks 👍👍
I made the right choice then! I don't care about shooting video, I love capturing nature & wildlife photos and i bought 6dmii about a month ago. I think 6d mark ii is great, considering it is the canon's lowest-priced full-frame camera.
Thank you for making this video. This is a tough one to decide on because I do professional video but would still like that full frame aesthetic for photography😭
Thank you, Mr. Aaron. Your video is really helpful. Thanks a ton!
Came here to say I thought you did a great job on this video, you are too hard on yourself. I bought the EOS90D today just based on this but I know exactly what trade off I am making now. Awesome job! Subbed.
I own a 5D mark III and a Canon 00D and I struggle to compare them. I still consider the 5D3 a Pro camera body despite its age and my 90D a ProSumet ca.era body. But I cant help but find myself using the 90D more due to having more features and higher megapixels. However if I want a certain look to my images the 5D3 is the camera I'm going to shoot with. Thete is just something so pleasing with the full frame sensor.
I completely agree, i wish i could get the same look and feel to an image with the 90D as I can the full frame 6dMKii, but it's just not the same.
I had 80D, now I bought 6D mark ii
couldn't be more happy :))
for someone like me that don't care about video, sport, birds, FF is the way to go :)
I have a 6Dmk2, which I use in conjunction with a 70D for street photography, they work very well together. I'm looking to upgrade the 70D maybe with the 90d… Would be a classic combination me thinks.
I bought the 80D at a great sale price, two years later picked up the 90D for a similar price and have just bought the6D mkII at AU$250 off. Use and love all three cameras...
This video was so helpful! Thank you so much.
Full frame looks so much natural and the background just looks amazing...
Thank you for this video! Super helpful and well made! I've been ready to upgrade and have both cameras in hand and need to make the decision to return one :x I think I'm going with the 6D since I'm mostly serious about photography
I am looking for a camera for photography so this video was really helpful for me. thank you.
Excellent comparison
Excellent review! Well done man! Thanks and cheers from WA State!
Finally!! I've been searching for this comparison forever now. Thanks for this video.
I'm exactly in this dilemma. I am really impressed by the shutter speed, the continuous shooting and the improved focussing system on the 90D but i really would like a full frame as well!
I don't think I'll be able to make a decision and be a 100% happy with it but I'm gonna have to do it eitherways.
Shravan Swaminathan Buy a used 6d for 500 bucks and give it a try. Great quality, very affordable. Forget about shutter speed, except you really need it. Take your time, take a slow shooting approach, you will learn more.
After owning my 60D for some years and now the 6Dii, I dont think it is a big deal to have FF just for the sake of having it. Also the field of view vs lens purchases becomes mlre challenging. The middle of the lens range is the same price wise but on the ultra wide and telephoto end is where it changes. You can get amazing quality ultra wide on a crop body (8 and 10mm) for about $600 while with FF the most extreme ultra wide (12 and 11mm) cost 3x as much. The same on the telephoto end but even more expensive because of the crop factor making short telephoto long. The low light is better but most cameras these days do a good job. The largest benefit I think is portrait photography to add that extra backround blur and low light. If that is not specifically a major part of what you shoot, then pick the one that has the features you want most.
You probably will end up with 2 good cameras. A aps-c for long range outdoors photography and a full frame for portrait and artistic photography.
At least that keeps the cost down in the big telephoto lenses. The 90d is great for sports and birds, and long range photography.
The 6d Ii is going to do better for artistic, portrait, and low light.
What ever camera you have now, just get some good glass for, keeping in mind that EF lenses can also be used in your full frame most of the time.
I bought a 6d cheap, but every lens I have bought for it cost 2-3 times more than the camera.
Wish I had just bit the bullet and bought an R6 mk Ii. Because now to move up I will have to use an adapter.
Same with my aps-c. Should have just bought the R7.
You're not just buying a camera, you are buying into a system. And changing systems is way more expensive than just a camera.
You can take wonderful pictures with a cheap body and good glass.
Know exactly what you want to do with your photography. Get the glass you need. Then get the camera for the job.
You probably have an asp-c camera now. So when buying glass, if you think you're going for a full frame, make sure your new lenses are capable of being used on a full frame.
Unless pro photography is on the horizon, or you're wealthy, I bet you stick to asp-c. And if you're going pro, then just figure on getting into the R series cameras and lenses now. You'll want and need the dual card slots, usb2 SD cards, and those $1,000 + lenses. At least the RF 50mm f/1.8 isn't too bad of a price.
Thank you Aaron for a good tutorial !
Moving from a t3i that I've been using for 10 years at least it seems,,, I'm struggling to choose a new camera. The 90 interests me slightly more because of lens options, however, I never shoot video and have zero desire to. Perhaps the 6d would be a more realistic choice. Enjoyed your video
I have 90D and looking to get my first full frame sensor and 6D Mk II is the one I am interested to get one.
thank you for information about two cameras are very useful
Loved your honesty, So Subscribed😀
judging from the quality of that 1080p video from the 90D its freak sharp very HD. compared to the 6D one . that for me was the deciding point ; i have no doubt that the 90D is the way to go. i do get the full frame advantage but i dont actually see it as an advantage wen looking at those two videos side by side. also the lens selection point you made, never thot of it objectively so thanks for pointing it out. Overall i loved yr video it was quite objective and made a tonne of sense. 90D for me
Great Video, good in depth reviews of both options. I also got a bit of help from the Canon UK experts with their Canon Live service
The 90D is more detail and sharp. But if you come from the era of shooting since 2005 or 2010, there was always the desire to own a FF. Now video means more in Dslr than pictures do but at one time it was reverse.
Very detailed explanation bro! Thank you ❤
I'm not a pro, just a hobbyist. For me the major drawback with the 6D II is the 1/4000 shutter speed limitation. If you've ever done high speed sync, then you know this is essential for creativity. And continuous burst limited being limited to 7 FPS.
I have not shot any high speed continuous, but I do a lot of nature and birding, the 7fps work alright for my needs at this point. I still plan on getting the Canon R5 at it's release though, just have to decide which kidney to sell first.
Very useful, thank you.
Thanks For the vid. Going for the 6D as my first full frame camera for photos only.
Subscribed!!
Very good video. I’d like to know can I use 90d for semi-pro photography. I mean shooting the products or something like that. Is the resolution enough?
And what is the risk for buying the used camera? Should I go for new one? Or save the money for lens.
I have to say, this video was very informative, so, thanks. I did want to mention, I'm a pro-photographer and my mentor, partner & best friend, uh, my grandpa, is a Master Photographer with nearly 6 decades behind him. I have a little more than 20 years myself. When we watched the video, you mentioned most "pros" choose a full frame. We know many pros and semi-pros. We all choose the 1.6 crop due to its versatility, compact size and endless features on the fly, and the fact we rarely do video. When we do, we use a drone as it tends to lean toward real estate work.
.
All of this being said, I've been struggling with going with either the 90D or the 6D MKii. The only "full" frames we own are old 120, 220 and 645 medium film cameras - being way bigger than full frame 35mm. Buying the 6D would be my first full frame DSLR. However, after watching this, I'm leaning toward the 90D, mainly because it's newer and I had no idea the 6D accepted only "some" EF lenses. That's a downer for me. I'm looking for a DSLR that is 30+MP, has a huge lens/attachments selection, and must be capable of rich, sharp, colorful imaging within a reasonable price range.
.
One last note. 1.6 crop factor vs. full frame at the same MP won't make your 30x40 inch enlargements noticeably better than the other. Pretty much any Canon camera from 18MP and up is fully capable of being enlarged to 30x40in. and still remain sharp. Throw in some AI editing using Topaz Labs DeNoise, Adjust, Mask or Sharpen, or any combo of these, no one will see the difference when looking at the print from the proper distance for the enlargement.
.
Now, off to look at some more comparison videos using this video as a baseline for the 90D and comp'ing the T7i, T8i and 90D.
.
Mirrorless cameras are a no-go for me. They just look cheap and toy like, which is good for us. Since so many people are flocking to buy the latest "mirrorless" cams, DSLR prices are dropping - FAST! I love it.
.
Hope to see more of your vids in the future.
.

I think you misheard - the 6D Mark ll accepts all EF lenses, while the 90D accepts both EF and EF-S (the lenses specifically made for the crop sensor bodies).
@@ArtDecoArtNouveau Actually, I didn't "hear" it. I read it - on Canon's website.
@@ThisIsSaipanCNMI Apologies and that is strange...the whole point of the EF lenses is that they fit all EOS cameras...do you have a link to this info. because I was also looking at this camera. Thank you!
great video. I've been looking at the 90D but i've used my friends 6D Mark II a bit and really liked it so I've been debating between the two. This vid fs helped man!
The 1080p on the 90D is incredibly sharp. It might just be because of youtube compression, but it looked noticeably sharper than the 4k. What picture profile were you using?
It is a pleasure to see videos like yours ... perfect sharpness, clarity in colors, clean, it is extraordinary, I really like it ... in your video you can really appreciate the clarity and quality of the images of the photo device you are presenting .. .However, in other videos of other people you can not see anything ... I repeat it is a pleasure to see your videos, bravo, congratulations.....greetings, here is an admirer of the sharpness of your videos
Very helpful, thank you. 👍
Absolutely excellent video!! I like your approach
Thanks!
What a super video glad I came across it. Thank you.
I want for pictires. Which one? Does matter 32 pix and 26 for 5d?
I have the 70D and the 6D Mk II... From my experience, the 70D APSC camera pic IQ can be excellent - if the light is bright enough. This is why I purchased the 6D MkII. It has the Full Frame look, and is just better suited for certain pics. Yes focus tracking on the 90D looks great.. // For photographers: If you are only taking pictures during bright days, the 70D should work out fine for you. 90D (just got one) is newer with more megapixels, thus better in low light. Video is a different comparison.
That was good, thank you..
I own both cameras. I like them both but find myself using the 90D more often. For portraits and low light photography, I use the 6D mark II. For everything else, I use the 90D.
How is the High ISO/low light performance on the 90d? I have the original 6D already and I know its awesome on that camera. Was wondering about that 90d's performance. Thanks
@@danc3746 I love using the 90D but it's low light performance isn't as good as I would like. For lower light situations where I don't want to use a flash, I use my 6D Mark II.
You CAN get great stills out of the 90d, but you need really good glass, patience, and time for post work, as Topaz DeNoise is an absolute MUST.
Nobody said you couldn't
thanks, actually really helped.
An excellent comparison. I think that I’m going to buy a 90D for video and a 6D Mark ll for pictures. Now which one do I buy first 🤫
What u doing first
Planning your get a camera for film school. Do you think in 1.5 years there will be a 6d mark iii? Im debating between these two but i hope the 5d mark v comes out soon. Even after watching your video i still cant decide. For film school should i get 90d or 6d mark ii. Im udgrading from a 7d+60d setup with mainly ef(not efs) lenses. Size and portability is not a concern, neither is price
I'm planning to purchase a new camera preferably a FF but my 10-22 efs will not be compatible. I'm not looking for a video camera and would be mostly shooting portrait and nature. Which camera do you suggest keeping in mind the lens compatibility.
Which one would you recommend if I want it to take street photography, landscapes and portraits? Thanks.
Thanks for sharing.
thanks big! good video! 👍
thanks to your statement, greetings from germany
He answer all the questions ! Aww the best one on this topic. Tnaks!
Oof but then you also have me thinking hard about what I really want this camera for... I want to do YT and videography, but I’m also a photographer and want to get the best camera for work in low light and tight spaces... I have a very difficult decision to make, but this gave me all the information I needed. Thanks again.
That was genuine u got new subscriber urself photography i will go for 6dmark2
Hi sir I would like to see you do a comparison between both of them performance in low light .
Very helpful thank you
Thank you bro for this video! great vs! 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Thanks !
awesome video this helped so much thanks
Thanks bro.
Cool video, thanks!
Thanks, you helped me make up my mind. 90D it is. I like to video and take pictures.
I currently have Canon 60d + Sigma 35mm 1.4 + Canon 50mm 1.8 and do a lot of car photography. To me, it feels a little bit outdated, so I'm looking to upgrade, plus I don't like that it's APSC. Been looking at mirrorless options like Canon RP or R, but I'm not sure, because they're quite expensive and have plenty of cons. Anyone can recommend a decent Canon camera? 90d? Like the one in the video? There's too much choice.
Thnq for useful information... Sir
Good Morning. Your review is great. I have the exact same opinion. I have a 6D MarkII, and I feel the photos are great, but the video quality is totally disappointing. I already thought about switching to Sony cameras, but your review encouraged me to get a Canon 90D. If I had known your review before, I would have purchased a 90D , instead of the 6D MarkII. Portuguese/Brazilian greetings.
I have made the same mistake by purchasing Canon 6D mark 2 three weeks ago.
If video is your priority, go for the Sony.
@@Greggiexplore It is not a mistake, get some good lenses and you will enjoy the camera.
I have a Tamron 18-400 I wonder if it might fit on the 90D canon ? Can anyone help ?
Very helpful review. Subscribed. Going for 90 D in my mind :D
Hard choice but i would still choose Canon 90D, Digic 8 and 4K and headphone jack are great. But 6D MKII is full frame
That was my struggle for making this video, I can't go back to a crop for my photography, and yet I can't go back to only 1080p for video. Waiting for a full frame with 90D features and an extra memory card slot.
@@FitsandFun Yeah both cameras has down and up, it all depends on your needs. I would choose 90D instead but you will like EOS R5. It will probably cost $4000 though
That's on my Christmas list.
@@FitsandFun That's the one i want but it's going to be expensive i heard, i wanted the EOS R but i will wait to see how much the EOS R5 cost. That camera will be a beast but nobody need 8K now, 4K no crap going to be great for videos.
90d is best
