    Just got mine this week and love it. I’m not a pro but I wanted a good camera that was easy to use and setup. I also allowed something that I could grow with as my skills progressed. The Canon 90D works perfectly for me and the features should hold up for years to come for what I do.

    I literally bought this model at the time this video was released and I'm watching it now for the first time. I've chose it over the mirrorless for the very same reasons you've mentioned. This is my first proper camera after 10 years of using the small SX150IS (which I still consider a very great small camera with top results if you know how to get the most of it) and had a very long thought about which path should I take and I'm not regreting my choice. The transition was far easier than I thought it would be and I am actually surprised how much I'm using the viewfinder instead of the screen even tho I was very used to take photos using only my sceen on the smaller camera. 90D is actually much easier to use and to take good phtotos with (I'm yet to use the video options more seriously). I'm looking forward in using the 90D in years to come even tho they will be dominated by the new and improved mirrorless cameras. I'm more comfortable with "less is more" as same as I was with my smaller camera since many people thought I took all those photographs with a DSLR. Cheers mate!

    Yeah, I have a Canon 90D and have had it a little over a year. I was frustrated with it at the beginning. I had a lot of trouble with nailing the focus. Today, I am more comfortable with it, and with the focus. I agree about the live view, using the LCD screen. I use it 70-90% of the time, really depends on the brightness of the day. I have found that my exposures and focus are way better with the live view/ LCD screen. Plus tracking is way much easier with the LCD. I want to upgrade and really wanted to buy the R7. A friend said to me the other day why? He was carrying The R7 and R6 on a photo shoot at the horse racetrack. I was with my 90D and was talking to him about the cameras we had. He felt that the 90D was the better performer over the R7. And yes, my 90D did very well in capturing the horses and riders. (Yay for the huge amount of practice with the 90D). I would still love to try out the R7. Now about the R6, I have shot with it as a loaner twice, love that camera, (thank you George's Camera!). My friend said to get the R5, (that I can not afford). But one day would still like a R6, but like my friend said, "save up for the R5". LOL! But the 90D is worth it as a DSLR, and it does have the capability of using a great many EF/EFS lenses. Great video!!! Thank you!! Edit: I agree with the opinions you gave in your video. I would keep my 90D and would buy another body (mirrorless) one day. I thought about your statement on buying another 90D as a replacement if needed. Very interesting, because it really makes sense if you have one already and need to replace it. I would hope also that Canon would still make it if that day ever came up. Thank you again.

      Thanks you. I'm glad you liked it and thought it useful, it seems like we're on a similar journey with our photography. I suspect that Canon may make this longer than maybe some pundits are saying having looked at it's price point and the way it holds it's value on the second hand market.

    • @petercollins7848
      @petercollins7848 Год назад +3

      Virtually all recently produced cameras give the same results, any advertised advantage is just hype, you just have to learn how to use all the features. In difficult focussing situations just manual focus to where you think the subject will be and use multi-shot settings. At least one photo should be right.

    • @AndyHPhotography
      @AndyHPhotography  Год назад +1

      @@petercollins7848 especially as they all use pretty much the same sensors and technology. Ultimately it’s is down to the photographer ‘seeing’ the required image and capturing it.

    • @AndyHPhotography
      @AndyHPhotography  Год назад

      I have not had any issues at all with the focus. The only lens that takes a bit of locking on is the 100-400 sigma which isn’t the fastest to focus anyway. With the 18-135 lens it is absolutely stunning and the tracking is superb (although I only use that a few times such as the Mach loop for aircraft)

    Great video. It reinforced my thoughts on my purchase of the 90D. I had the 70D and was having issues with bounce flash. If i did bounce flash the output dropped consideralble. Canon was of no help so i finally jumped on a used 90D and loved it bounce flssh works just fine. Then, i saw there was an update to the 70D software and updated it. Now, the bounce flash works. Passed that on to my son and grandson. They were happy to get it. Love the 90D get much sharper images. Still have plenty to learn. I've had the 40D, the 70D and now the best camera i'veever owned the 90D

    I agree that the 90D is an excellent camera - I own one myself, and I´m over the moon with it - but I´m not sure I'd recommend it for a beginner. I learned on a Rebel 750D, a camera capable of taking superb images and a little more "forgiving" than the 90D.

    I agree with all of your main points. I truly believe that for photographers, the mirrorless trend is largely marketing hype. Unless you have an unlimited budget for a mirrorless FF with high end glass or if you just want a small one body, one lens walk around camera, you will almost always better served by a DSLR. Ignore all of the videographers and smaller is better amateurs on DPReview, and buy some quality pro Nikkors or Canon L glass and a DSLR.

    Some excellent points. I just upgraded from a 40D this year. I was looking at used cameras, so save some money. My wife pushed me instead to look at new, so I was seriously considering the 90D. My wife talked to a friend of hers, who happens to be a photographer, and was suddenly pushing me toward mirrorless. Ended up getting a refurbished R5 direct from Canon, and got a really good deal on it through one of the rebate sites that was offering 15% cash back at Canon at the time. I haven't had any major issues with battery life, although it is noticeably shorter than on my 40D. Of course, we also have to factor in that I'm now using a camera without a battery grip for the first time in 20 years - not quite ready to spend what Canon is asking for the grip. I definitely wouldn't mind picking up a 90D or similar as a backup someday, but I'm sure by the time I get to that point, the R7 II (or III) will be available.

    • @AndyHPhotography

    • @craigpiferphotography
      @craigpiferphotography Год назад +4

      I imagine that someone will continue to make them as long as there is demand, which I'm sure there will be. I was adamant that I would not go mirrorless - I love the optical viewfinder - but here I am. Then again, I was also adamant that I was going to stick with film and not go to digital, but things change and a chance to get a used 10D changed that somewhere around 16 years ago.

I like the idea of the autofocus features and EVF as well as dual cards in case of failure for weddings etc. of the R7, I tend to shoot more action and moving subjects (horses) and to be honest the 90D looks like a great unit and you’ve got the lenses available which of course always helps. If you look at serious assessment sites the resolution on a crop sensor body is significantly lower than full frame. I was considering an R7, or 90D [due to the cost] to replace my 7D2, which is very noisy. I decided to hold off as using the R5 in crop mode I have the same image, only 17+mp.

      I just moved to a 90D in March. A few things about it. You must shoot using a higher shutter speed than with 3Ti. I’d go at least half again as fast as you are used to. The high pixel density of the sensor demands it. Some older lenses don’t have the resolution required to produce a sharp image. The sensor out resolves the lens. Some 90D users find it frustrating at first, but wth perseverance the 90D is an awesome camera.

    Hi, I’ve stumbled down the rabbit hole of wanting to replace/upgrade my camera. I currently have a (now discontinued) canon 200d which was perfect for my first ever camera. Mainly used for video and some photography. Now I’m really , really REALLY needing some advice … deciding whether to go for canon 90d, canon mark 5d iv, or canon R7 . The R7 looks attractive to me because of : the autofocus capabilities and the newer technology that come with mirrorless , I’m scared because of not knowing how to use it compared to my traditional camera , I’m embarrassed to say I have only ever used auto on my camera but I’m going to learn how to use manual. Also slightly worried about the ‘overheating’ rumours/problems with mirrorless, but apparently shouldn’t be an issue if I don’t intend to do shoot 30min + .. I’m interested in the canon mark iv because it seemed EVERYONE thinks it’s a beast and amazing but then after research I saw it’s better primarily for photography AND it doesn’t have a flip out screen (a feature I currently have and love) and then obviously the 90d …. I think is a really really good option as it’s a step up (several steps) to what I have and probably the most familiar one I’d be used to .. just scared of thinking the R7 is more superior I think is my problem… would really appreciate your thoughts.

The video is superb and if you want to upgrade to something that is the ultimate, then this is the one to get. Matched with a 18-300 lens and great value especially as they want you to go mirrorless. Hi, the price depends on which country you are in as Canon change it in different countries. Here's a link to the product and kit to give you an idea. I would recommend the 18-135mm lens as your first one for this camera (check out my video for this lens if you get a chance ... ruclips.net/video/-OfcNTDUP5k/видео.html)

    You need to consider that a 32mp sensor is equivalent to something like 80mp full frame. Than means that the sensor will outperform most normal lenses, even some L lenses, and the images may appear soft. That may be one reason why mirrorless do not get 100mp sensors, the manufacturers know what to expect.

    • @AndyHPhotography
      @AndyHPhotography  11 месяцев назад

      That is a very good point and something I'd not considered. It's noticeable the latest Canon mirrorless are around 24Mb

      There is a long list of lenses already tested and many proven to work with the 32MP APSC 90D. We just avoid buying/using those older lenses that have been shown to be not good enough for 32MP APSC sensors.
      (All the EF-S and EF lenes that I now already own, have been listed as good enough for 90D.)

      @@AndyHPhotography I was thinking about getting one, only I have far too many bodies already, DSLR and mirrorless, in my pursuit of quality. 6, and lenses I had for work that I do not use much now. One recommendation I always suggest is do not be afraid of second hand or third party lenses, and always buy the best glass you can afford. I have countless stunning images taken on 3mp or 4mp bodies. You can pick up ex pro bodies like the Canon 1Dsiii for peanuts, or the 1D series which are H crop.

      @@blisteringbooks2428 serving hands is always something I’ve shied away from but when or if I go mirrorless I’m going to take the second hand approach as I believe that the quality of the images ultimately is in the view of the photographer, not the tech. The tech can help capture it a but value for money the second hand market has some complete bargains out there

    I tried a Cannon M3 mirrorless and hated it. It's not the picture quality but the balance in my hand. With a modest 200mm lens it's so front heavy it's hard to use and, the smaller body is a real pain to grip. Try before you buy.

    • @AndyHPhotography

      I think that is one of the challenges of the smaller mirrorless cameras. They’re just not balanced with the lenses

      Between the two canons, I personally would go for the 90d still as I think it is better value for money and wins overall in terms of specs and will continue to have kits if lens choices going forward. I can’t really comment on the Fuji as I’ve never owned one although I know someone that has a Fuji and is happy with it. They have though mentioned some challenges in post processing of the raw (but that could just be that the person isn’t proficient in Lightroom)
