I bought one, love it. Had them all, from 10D all the way to 90D.
Can you compare it to the 50D in a few sentences? Thanx
Id like o hear it too, thinking About upgrading from my 50D
That last shot on that 'island' was compelling
I love how there’s always a shot of Jordan crying in the foetal position on the floor...should replace the old DPreview test scene 🤣
Legend says Manny Ortiz is still running away from Chris.
10/10 youtube subscribers have told me personally that they loved the intro. Ohh yeah babyy
Are these guys a couple?
Can confirm #1
The Intro's Golden!
Honestly as a 70D user, i will definitely go for this one instead of M6II for an upgrade just for the long battery life i can get with a DSLR camera, plus improved AF for OVF & live view, and more video features (compared to 70D) are also a nice touch.
I wonder if the EVF-DC2 could be compatible with the 90D for those moments when you just would prefer an EVF.
Im upgrading from the 70D too
Chris' face expression when touching joystick is priceless :)
Totally digging the intro :-) Something noticable: after viewing you while vlogging in 4K on the 90D and going back to the GH5 footage, your face suddenly turned a kind of greenish yellow.
The production quality of this video is even better than normal. Great job team!
It's also worth noting that the 90D allows shooters to keep their viewfinders even when shooting with external flash or triggers. Also, it has a proper tilt-flip screen for shooting at high/low angles even in portrait orientation.
I had passed the M50 for so long because I was hoping that the next M flagship would incorporate the same features, but what we got instead was a glorified M3.
Thanks for the review! Looking forward to having the 90D. It will be my go to sports and wildlife camera.
Great review. I love the transitions! You answered my question regarding the AF. Looks like I’m going to keep my 7D2. Hopefully a 7D3 comes out.
Sadly it looks like the 7d line has been ended. No Mk iii I'm afraid.
I just got this for Christmas I am in love. I upgraded from a very old canon 500d which is over 10 years old now. So this is just a whole new a level for me. I was bought this more for the filming although I do photography as well. It’s going to be a great all rounder. I find it’s very comfortable to hold also. The tracking / focus on this is superb. Love it
@DPReview Do you have sample 90D 4K video I can download for testing. I'd like to test without seeing through youtube compression.
I regularly use an MKE I / AVX wireless lapel setup on a Canon 80D and self-noise is a non-issue with the camera preamp set at the 25% mark.
Loves the way how you review the DSLRs, has been a fan. All the best for all your future endeavours. Love from India.
I picked up the 90D based on your early review/M6 Mark II comparison video. And I honestly love my 90D! I already have a 5D Mark IV and the 90D compliments it very well. It's lighter and great with the shorter lens. Easy to swap between the two in a pinch. Also, I don't think you can overstate the 120 fps full HD video. That was the selling point for me and it lives up to my expectations. The 120 FPS video in a studio setting has been super clean. I'll be putting it to work in a few weeks during an engagement shoot in NYC. That will be the real test. But so far, I am very happy with my purchase and have found both reviews you have done to be helpful and accurate.
How is the image quality vs the 5d IV? I'm debating the 90d vs a cheap 5ds for landscape use only + 16-35 F4. Already have the 80d + 100-400 II which has done fine for wildlife use.
@@07wrxtr1 The few shots I've taken with it seem good. Real test is in a couple of weeks at that engagement shoot. I can update you after that. The two big differences I notice right away from the 5D are weight and controls. The 90D is significantly lighter than the 5D which I really appreciate. However, I prefer the dials on the 5D over the 90D. My fat fingers are struggling with back dial the most.
@@akareject yes, please let us know how the 90D compares to the 5d Mark IV in low light as far as clarity/noise. And dynamic range in normal conditions. I'm trying to decide between EOS R(which i heard has same sensor as the 5D Mark IV) and the 90D. The newer sensor in the 90D might be able to compete pretty well.
What lens would you say to use when using it for video? I liked how the shot looked when you were going over the bridge with the stabilizer
Hey Chris, can you give us feedback on smartphone integrations as I'm interested to know how that might work to distribute video and social media and so on.
I'm two minutes in and laughing good. 😄 Thanks, I needed this ♥️
So what codec is that 4K Footage? Does it have a clean HDMI-Output for an Atomos recorder?
Canon have just announced that 24fps will be available to all their cameras released in 2019, via a firmware update 👍
Some Video needs an update ^-^
Such a great achivement for Canon...
so what's the best lens for vlogging? i wonder what lens was used at 4.20?
Hi, Chris and Jordan 👍🏻👍🏻 Great review on the Cannon 90 D, informative information and knowledge of using Cannon products 👍🏻👍🏻 I would like to know what gimbal were you using I have a Canon 80 D and I love taking pictures and videos. Enjoy and have a Great Friday !!!Danny
What is the bitrate in 1080 and 4K on this and M6 II? And what is it on the sony a6600?
This review is fantastic. Very thorough and helpful!
Nice overview, thanks guys. I don’t know much about video, but I thought the look of the 90D clip looked better (color? FPS? not sure) than the rest of the video. Also, it was nice and steady - was that thanks to the lens, or the gimbal, or both?
What is the wobble at 7:18?
I'm having my lens do this every once in a while with my 80D and I don't understand what is happening or how to fix it. It doesn't happen unless I am handheld.
hello sir, can you please help me out to select which dslr amoung canon 90d and nikon 500d is better for photography ?
Thank you for making this video! I'm probably going to buy this camera to improve my video and photo quality because right now I have two extremely basic Canon cameras. I know that Canon isn't necessarily the best brand, but I like the feel of their cameras, as well as the way that the settings are arranged. This video helped me understand all about the Canon EOS 90D camera, so now I know what I am buying, and all of the pros and cons of this particular camera. Thanks again!
Purchased this camera last week, great upgrade form the 77D and will permanently be mounted to the 100-400 II for Wildlife!
I'm considering the same upgrade. Primarily using for stills, did you find the image quality to be a lot better? Really would love for there to be less shadow noise and better low light.
What lens is on the camera @ the beginning of the video while you are sitting @ the purple table?
Thx for the vid! Can you tell me what gimbal this is? Thx and greetings from germany
Just got one a couple days ago. Pretty nice camera. Definitely a good step up over the 80d. You speak of missing more than hitting with the tracking ability of someone running at the camera. I’ve had pretty good success with that with my 2 year old running around and toward me. Many more keepers than not this time around. I really love the battery life. I can shoot at the zoo all day with one battery.
“Do you know what time it is?”
“It’s HIGH NOON”
Would you switch from a 7DMK2 to this 90D? My joystick doesn’t work any longer when previewing pictures and only 2 of my SD cards work without issues (pins seems to be bended for some reason after lending it to my daughter).
Do you have any feeling for how the dynamic range of this sensor compares with the FF sensor in the RP? I keep reading that the RP's sensor is crap - is this sensor any better? I know they are different sizes & resolutions.
Another good review Chris thanks for that 39? Looking good Man 😉👍
so should I upgrades from sl2 to 90d? the sl2 is a little weak on some areas and I just need something with a bit more.....
Could you just tell me if you snap a picture with this camera and the 80D would this camera create sharper pictures just because of the megapixel jump?
Hi, I shoot a load of wildlife and birds in flight already own a 5DMarkiii, 7dMarkii and I am looking for a second APS-c body for a secondary wildlife and travel camera. Would you recommend the 90D over the 7D Mark ii?
If I exclusively use live view for video recordings, would I then basically have a mirrorless camera?
How is the image quality compared to my 7D MII and is it worth the possible upgrade for quality photo's?
Great video, question if you don't mind me asking. I filmed a video on my Canon 90D on automatic, I also set it at 4K. When I open up Final Cut Pro X, it's asking me what " Resolution " I want to set the project at. 4K is the best that is out there for this camera, do you know the best Resolution and Rate numbers I should set Final Cut at ? The best one ???? The best best one ? If so, thanks.
so I have been looking around for a personal camera as I am using a loaner. I like landscaping, architecture, and mostly motorsports or fast moving objects, do you think this would be a good camera to use or should I maybe go with something else, I mean I was at an airshow a few months back where I shot around 950 photos so battery is slightly important
What was the gimbal being used, anyone? It seems to handle everything nicely and did not look too heavy. I keep thinking about pulling the trigger on a gimble for the 80D but now there's too much choice!
the video actually does feel fresh the way it's edited at a faster pace with more cuts :)
Hi. Can you adjust in the vídeo menus, the AF speed and responsive in vídeo ? Thank's.
What camera is the best, canon 90D or Nikon D7500? For taking photos
great review. those shots were amazing
What's the brand of the gimbal you used? 4:18 Thanks.
what chroma subsampling does 90d have? (4:2:0 or 4:2:2?)
and in what bitrate is it recording 4k internally?
how much bits does it have?
Can it shoot 4:2:2, 10bit, 300bitrate internally? without external recorder?
please, answer if u know. i have looking for these specs for so long.. but with no result..:(
Jordan, Can you please elaborate on the movie digital IS function found on this camera?
Regards
Nikhil
What about low light performance??? I am indoor photo shooter. I would like to know if this cam can handle more than 6400 ISO.
Can we get video samples without youtube compression as well please?
I need help! I am Graduating from an iPhone to a “real” camera for my channel. I thought the 6600 would be it... but maybe not. Help! What has IBS, great af, mic in, headphones out, great 4K, 24p, flippy screen... all those RUclips needed features???
no such things in 1 camera at the moment, unfortunately
a6600 is a great candidate but the IBIS is not great video, its work fine for stills photo btw. both 90d and m6 ii has no IBIS and 24p right now. panasonic camera has great IBIS but slow autofocus. Fuji has great camera body and lens selection but none of their flagship camera has IBIS and flip screen.
@@EinzMY Thanks for the insight. If you will use the camera for 90% 4k video for RUclips and need to film alone 70% of the time which camera line do you suggest?
What is its dynamic range in EVs at different ISO; @100, 1600, 3200?
Great video and review as always. But no dynamic range test?
What is the best mic to use + camera stabilizer for the Canon EOS 90D
I want to know,
7D mark II have capabilities to mirrored using HDMI
How about 90D?
Does it turn it on if you gently massage the joystick?
Happy endings are xtra
I think the 90D joystick likes things a little rougher than that. Maybe even a light spanking.
What lens was used to film you when you were seated on the river (around 11:00 into the movie)?
This guy is like the Ryan Reynolds of camera reviews 😂
Oh yeah love the joy stick intro!
Hello! When shooting slow motion video 120fps, Dual Pixel autofocus works or not? Thanks in advance
Theres no autofocus for 120fps unfortunately
EOS M6 mark II is mirrorless and for someone who uses many EF/EF-S lenses, will an adaptor such as an RF mount affect image quality/ cause you to lose pixels?
Hi, which ronin did you use on this video? ....
is it good for 'Photography' as well or just videography?
if not which one is best in this range?
I want to upgrade from the T7i to the 90D. is low light shooting good? with my T7i, anything about 800 ISO sucks and brings in a lot of noise. 800 is really a last resort for me and I have a pretty hard line to keep it at 400 ISO or below which of course severely limits my shooting options. is the 90D better in that regard? Marginally better, a huge upgrade or is it comparable to the T7i?
Looking forward to more joystick reviews!
Great review thanks! What's the word on low light performance? And what's the word on 4k enhanced crop mode and what that does to image sharpness/crop factor. Any flat profiles for video? Find this info hard to come by :(
Low light performance looks largely similar to the previous sensors however with much higher resolution. Hopefully we will see lab tests on dpreview.com shortly. The uncropped video is slightly softer then the cropped video. Not a huge difference but it's there. No flat profiles at all, looks like your turning everything down on the natural profile to get as close to flat as possible.
Thanks Chris 👍 Guess we'll wait and see a little longer
Nice video What will be a good lens for wedding or portraits an thank you I really enjoy ur vidoes.
Is there going to be a canon m5 mkii? Or just an m6 mkii?
Great review! I'm sold
I'm still hanging on to my 60D... Since I don't have $3K I just can't decide which camera I should upgrade to (Fuji, Sony, Lumix, Nikon, Canon...)
Wanted to switch to Sony.... then i looked at my gears... then i stayed with Canon. ^_^
Juan Pablo Ayala go with Nikon
What type of tripod was that? Where you were walking
Which one would you recommend for wildlife? 90D or 7D mark ii? :)
Cool review but one thing stood out: you were testing DPAF performance in a vlog scenario with a crappy slow ef-s 10-18? At f/4.5 I think the background is (almost?) in focus as well ;)
Isn't jordan quite often on the ground in recent videos ? XD
Also, just wondering but, is the EVF for the m series usable on the 90D ? Could be fun to transform your dsl to MILC like this lol
It is not.
im confuse on canon 90d and sony a6400 which is better ? please reply me which camera best
What camera are you using to make this video
I missed Jordan's experiment, but seeing it now... yep. That was certainly a different episode. ;D The 90D seems like a solid update for existing EF-S mount users (or EF as a second camera).
The annoying thing about the megapixels arms race is that I would rather have improved low light/high ISO performance and dynamic range... But increased resolution is what sells to consumers because to them more megapixels = better camera
Nothing wrong with having more megapixels. If cameras were 20 MP a few years ago. A new 32 MP sensor + improved processor can give the same or even better low light performance in 2019. In my opinion both resolution and low light performance should improve in a balanced way.
@@operatora588 Very true! But you only get so much benefit from increasing resolution - unless you're planning on blowing up photos to huge sizes like billboards, you don't need it (even if you are, big prints like that can have a low DPI). If you're using that higher resolution to make huge crops, especially with APS-C cameras, you're going to run into the physical limitations of the lens, and then there's your shutter speed and hand shake, etc. At that point I would suggest to maybe get a longer lens or move closer lol. If a camera with more megapixels can have the same image quality, I would rather have less megapixels and better image quality instead. But that's just a preference.
I agree. I would love a world class, out of this world lowlight beast! I have the a7S II and I want moaaaaaarrrr! ;D I don't care about the megapixel (other than at least shoot 4K video).
No wonder why mobile phones has ludicrously huge number of megapixels
@Reuel T
That's the point. I want to limit the megapixels so that the photosites are more concerned with obtaining light, not getting more fine detail.
Please reference your megapixel numbers for film. I'm getting number ranges that are all over the place.
what stabilizer are you using 4:15
I’m a traditional (D)SLR enthusiast photographer of a certain age, and for me, this camera is perfect. In fact I’ve just sold a 5DIV + FF L lenses, and a 750D, to concentrate on this. I was finding the 5DIV + L lens just too0 big and heavy to hold for long periods of time. Like Chris my eyesight is going, so I find a VF preferable to using a screen, and the OVF on this camera is very good. I suspect that this might be my ‘last camera’; I can’t think of what else I would want.
One last point regarding size & weight, etc. My first good SLR was an original EOS 650 (the film camera) which I bought in 1988, and I used it and a couple of successors for many years. Just for fun I compared the size and weight of the 90D + Sigma 17-70 (my walk-round lens) with an old EOS 600 (630 in N America) + 28-105 lens, and they’re very similar. I feel like I’ve come home with the 90D.
"I can’t think of what else I would want."
have you tried using EOS R with focus peaking?
"I can’t think of what else I would want."
have you tried using EOS R with focus peaking?
No, but that was too much money. I was able to buy the 90D new by selling older stuff on eBay. I did consider the RP but I have a feeling that’s a work in progress, it will be replaced improved quite quickly, and then I would just want to upgrade - which I wouldn’t be able to afford.
Let me be clear - I’m saying this is the best camera *for me*. Other cameras may well be better for other people, and I’ve no argument against their decisions.
What about the Sigma 18-35 art lens? Would it be a good match to this camera?
That is some DRTV Kai intro.
Im so glad I found this!
Im starting my channel for those of us with cancer, family and friends of those who are caretakers, diet, exercise, treatments what to expect going through chemo and radiation, what to expect with dentistry related to side effects from treatment, (all things cancer related. Keeping It Real.
Im doing this channel on my own, so Im on a budget and so I am getting the EOS R for photo and video.
Ill be doing interviews, cooking, doing daily exercises, taking portraits, pictures of people is their homes and doing daily things, etc.
I needed this tutorial so much!
Thank You!
Also, could you tell me good quality but inexpensive stable lenses for portrait, macro, video, dark surroundings (bring more light in) aside from lighting (Im working on that as well) and landscape.
I did buy the Rode Wireless Go so I have better audio.
Also am I understanding this takes R Mount and EF-EFS lenses?
This is my first camera.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated, thank you Chris!
At the beginning, Chris should have looked at the camera and said "do you like that??? OH YEAH, you know you like that!!" 😂
I would enjoy hearing which common EF-S lenses can resolve the 32MP. Or even just letting us know that you'll have to exclusively use FF EF lenses to hit 32MP.
I'd be surprised if Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 couldn't, but yes, I don't see even the 17-55 f/2.8 performing at the level of this sensor
@@666Tomato666 We used the 17-55 in our Atlanta episode, and it certainly wasn't resolving the sensor's full resolution. The new EF-S 35mm F2.8 Macro did a great job, as do the bulky but sharp Sigma Art Lenses.
@@thatjordandrake I would like to see a video in which you kit out the 90D (and M6 iI perhaps) with APS_C lenses for stills and video.
Hi sir. Should I buy 90d or 6d mark ii. I'm a photographer I don't make the video .
Great review. Thank you!
What Gimball are you using ?
Do the Canon lenses work on both the 80D and 90D?
Useful review. Kudos for identifying the birds. A merganser is a duck, btw, but I expect you knew that..
How to connect my DJI ronin s with the canon 90d?
I want a cam to shoot sports photography (downhill mtb) as a hobby. Also some filming. Important for me is mainly a good AF and somewhat good low light. Would the 90D be something for me? I did of course fall in love with the sony a7 iii but it's out of my budget unfortunately 😕
7:11 Curious for our productions makeup can help talent and I wonder what makeup palette you use for Chris, 100% serious question, because overall it looks good and want to know about using for our talent? Is it just like a like foundation or color? Or is that just natural tan? Looks good on camera as often talent where we are in Ohio can be pretty pale on camera since we don't get so much sun here. Just curious - thanks
Correct me if I am wrong, but I already have 6 EF and EFS lenses, wouldn't buying the mirrorless be more trouble than it's worth? $200 for the adapater, and added bulkiness. My understanding is that adaptor would not change lens performance, though I was not clear how you move optics with respect to the sensor and there's no change.
Are EF-S lenses marked for cropped sensors? In other words, do the markings on the lens reflect what the focal length would be on a full frame?
No, EF-S lenses are marked with the focal length of the actual lens not the equivalent crop factor focal length. You still have to multiply by 1.6 in your head if you want to get a sense for FF equivalent the same way you would when using a regular EF lens on an APS-C camera. Think of the difference being that EF-S lenses eliminate the area on an EF lens that would project outside the perimeter of the sensor. Hence an EF-S lens will be smaller in diameter (and lighter) than an EF lens of the same focal length.
My decisions is made but my wallet is not letting me executing it 🤣
True..
Same
