  • Canon R6 vs Canon 90D with Samples. In this I try to explain and show the similarities and differences between the Canon 90D and R6. I use as many samples and demonstrations as I can to give cleat and precise examples. Both are excellent cameras that almost everyone would be thrilled to have.

    In my case I find the 90d to be perfect for all my needs..
    Sure the R6 has many upgrades but the price difference for the added options don't add up for me for my needs..
    The money I save with the 90d lets me buy the specific lens I need for my projects..

      hi, i am using 90d, but when i look through the viewfinder, especially when i zoom in, the viewfinder is very light grainy compared to nikon, when i searched i saw that it is for better focusing, i wonder if you are like this too?

    • @FitsandFun
      @FitsandFun  Год назад

      No, I've never noticed that. But depending on the lens, for example if it's a variable zoom lens your aperture changes a lot when you zoom in. So the actual lens probably has more to do with it vs the manufacturer. Especially if you zoom indoors where the light isn't good.

    I appreciate the video and your review on the R6. I have considered an upgrade to the R6. I was using the 7Dm2 for wildlife/birds and the 6D for landscape work. Then I was having some issues with the 7Dm2 so I started shooting wildlife/birds with the 6D. I was blown away on the images coming out of the 6D. My photography went to a whole new level. It helped me determine how I want my images to look. So you are right that the images from FF sensor is different than the crop sensor. Hence, the consideration of the R6 for the speed and resolution amazement without burning a hole in my wallet. Thank you for the review.

      this simply isn't true. the 90d will blow the 6D away with IQ with birds. It stomps on the 7d2 for IQ. 7d2 also better than a 6D for birds/wildlife.

    • @Ozone280
      @Ozone280 Год назад

      @@MrOranj I disagree. I've had both 6D and 90D and I'd take the 6D any day. I should have waited to get a 6D Mk II but I was taken in by a good deal on a 90D, which I now regret. I'd swap my 90D for a 6D Mk II without hesitation.

    Very interesting video! Quick question about lenses, I have EOS 90d + sigma 18-38 F1.8 , and I want to upgrade to R6 MK2 + 24mm f1.8 and 50mm f1.8, do you think the IQ would be better or worse? I mainly use this setup for video, so I would need a 24mm for video, but I am really scared that 90D filming at 4K 30 fps might actually be better optically than R6 MK2 with either 24mm f1.8 RF lenses or 50mm rf 1.8 lenses. Currently the high-end canon lenses are way out of my budget, which is why I was eyeing the R6 MK2 with those two more entry-level ones.

    hello, regarding the image quality of an apsc sensor (90d) vs full frame (r6), is the difference in sharpness, color? and why do you like working with full frame? thanks

    • @FitsandFun
      @FitsandFun  3 года назад

      I think it's a deeper image, as in more distinction between the front, middle and back. Also I think when the image is cropped, the less megapixal full frame sensor is sharper than the more megapixal crop sensor. I base this on thousands and thousands of images over years. It may just be me, but I think other photographers might agree with me. Or not, hard to say.

    Do you find the R6 struggling in low *low* light scenarios? I've been doing extensive research trying to figure out why the flash unit doesn't fire off the red assist beam when paired up with the R line of mirrorless cameras. This makes my job an impossible task when shooting @ gala events trying to find focus due to the "slow" delay when using the EVF even when I turn off *simulation* . Don't get me wrong. The R5/ R6 is a very capable camera in the *day* *time* . But I find it crippling to use it in the dark. What's your thoughts on this? Any work around the lag problem?

    • @FitsandFun

      I haven't used it in a dark enough situation to have that problem. I primarily shoot wildlife and outdoor portraits. I rarely use flash. Sorry I can't help.

    I am currently using a 70D(bought 2015) and have a 90D on order now(passing 70D to my duaghter as her SL1 is failing). But since the order has been taking a couple weeks(and still waiting), I have had time to think about it and reconsider. With the industry heading towards mirrorless and Canon discontinuing their EF lenses, I feel like putting the money into an R6 now will allow me to not only have a IMO better(for what I do) camera that could be more future proof for the slow upgraders like me, but also allow me to move into the full frame realm and focus my future lens buying, in that direction.
    I really like the focusing system on the R6. It may help me with some of my "missed" focuses on my 70D. I also really like the fact it can do 4k60 video, which is something I love to film in. I only film 5-10 minute clips now(using either an iphone or original Osmo pocket) so I'm hoping the overheating issue doesn't really affect me.
    So yea, the cost will hurt a bit but I feel like it will be worth it for me, since I don't upgrade that often, so I ordered an R6 yesterday(with the RF 24-105 kit lens).

    Hi Aaron! Maybe you can help me. I own a Canon SL2 (or 200D, similar to the canon t7i) and i have some savings to invest in an upgrade for my video settings. MOst use of my equipment is to vlog and make "Epic B-Roll" videos, Daniel Schiffer´s way. I have a 10 18 mm STM and a 50 mm F/1.8 STM. Would you recomend to sell my APS-C camera and EF-S Lenses and buy a Full Frame camera to have the better ISO performance and cinematic look in low light conditions? Or do you think that i´ll be fine buying the sigma 18 35 F/1.8 to achive similar results in low light with my current Canon SL2?

    • @FitsandFun
      @FitsandFun  3 года назад

      The Sigma 18-35mm is fantastic on my T7i and 90D. I'm sure it'll work great on the SL2. My problem with it is the weight, my gimbal isn't strong enough to stabilize my footage. Since that lens has no image stabilization I'd love to use a gimbal. So a strong gimbal is necessary also in my opinion for b-roll.

      I'm not sure, I've never had that happen. And I record in 4k off and on for hours. So until mine overheats I'm not sure that's an actual problem. My R6 on the other hand did overheat a few time at a car show, but it took a good hour of continuous video and photo shooting.

    I think the only thing to say here is it would be great to own BOTH THESE CAMERAS, because they don't really compare very well in terms of usage: we know the 90D is going to be best used outdoors and with available light, and the R6 can do it all but probably best shines indoors, low-light, event work with or without flash etc.

    Aaron, Appreciate you comparing these two lenses. Relying for a long time on the 77D, the 90D still holds appeal to me as an upgrade to that. But I just bought the RP, as my personal decision of compromise between image quality and price of 'admission' to being able to shoot full frame again. Having used the old 6D for many years and seeing your earlier comparison of crop and FF canons, I'd agree that there is a very noticeable difference with image quality between the two sensor sizes, all other things equal. Its more than just less noise in the FF. With the RP i can adapt all my existing lenses, add RF lenses as need (and sales) may arise, and hope there will be some cheaper future 'R' camera options with more modern sensors than the RP at more accessible prices. Jess, this is Craig replying - i actually returned the RP. I found its dynamic range really poor. With good lenses it gives a bit better detail/sense of resolution than my 77d. And it has lower noise at high isos. But at the lower ISO levels my 77d has better dynamic range. In practical i thought it might be good for indoor use (e.g. weddings, stock photos). But for landscape use with lots of bright and dark areas in a shot, it seemed more a step back. I’m going to hold out for...?, i’m not sure what. The R6 is so pricey, but i have all canon glass. So i’m in that quandary. .

      Jess, craig here. Yes, i’m actually a bit embarrassed to admit i did, and returned it as well. I tried that long ago when it first came out. The sensor is better than the RP. (Other reviewers say it is the sensor from the 5D mark iv, which is a step up from the RP). But it has a somewhat weird user interface. (E.g. Note the mode dial that requires you to press down then spin to find and select your mode on the top plate screen, and that ridiculous touch bar). Do try to hold it in a store before buying it. I suspect it might be better suited to non-action photography. I do a bit of everything, inc. bird photography, landscape, portrait, etc. so a, looking for a more multi-use beast. The Sony A7mark iii is one i too am considering...with hope i could adapt my canon lenses with the metabones adapter.

    Hey Aaron, I love to shoot pro and college sports. NFL and MLB. I have used my 7Dii with 70-300L for years. It does great. Little noisy at night, but that's the tradeoff. One requirement is, most stadiums will only allow a lens less than 6". The 70-300L just meets that. I've been trying to shed some weight off of my carry in bag, so I tried an M5. The pictures were good, but a little slower to focus, plus my M5 had a couple of problems. Didn't buy the M6ii, I was turned off by the no built in EVF. However, the attachment does work well, so I've warmed up to that idea. I have a ton of EF, EF-S and L lenses. I do intend some day to go with an R5, but do you have any suggestion about a lighter camera? M6ii (similar to 90d), M50ii, 90D or just bite the bullet get the R5 and use in crop mode if I need the distance.

    Good Morning. Comparing your image recorded in this tutorial with the Canon 90D, and your comparison review between the 6D MarkII and the 90D, there was a very big loss of sharpness from the 90D. In this R6 comparison review, the 90D image looks like the 6D MarkII. Could you explain to me the reason for this? Please. I liked the previous review so much that I was deciding to buy a 90D to record my videos. But after this current review I was in doubt. Could it be that in the other review there was some sharpening treatment on the 90D images? Because the definition was really great. Thanks. I await your comments.

      I didn't notice until long after I uploaded this video, but on my computer they didn't look as different as they do on RUclips. The 90D looks softer in that comparison than it actually is. I have no explanation why it lost sharpness when it plays after I uploaded it. I don't alter sharpness or color correct. In fact I use fairly simple software to make all my Videos, Movavi Video Editor. I shoot most of my RUclips videos with the 90D, and I have more videos that show only the 90D, if you want to see it's video quality. Also the R6 shoots in 5k and downsamples to 4k, I'm not sure if that isn't messing with the side by side when uploading to RUclips, or possibly in my software.

  • @zahifar3936
    @zahifar3936 3 года назад

    The name Aaron practical reviews gives justice to this first video that I've watched. I like it when reviewers actually show the camera(s) working. For my type of shooting, the only real advantage of the R6 is IBIS. All because I have a couple of lovely voigtlander lenses that I just can't find the courage to let go. One of which is a 90mm with close up lens for macro shots. Without a tripod, this lens would be unusable on the 90D with its 32mpx. The slightest of shakes will show. And faster shutter speed ultimately means increasing iso even in good light. So still on the edge here. Not sure if I'd go with the R6 in the near future and still take advantage of its features as a mirrorless camera.
    When it comes to ergonomics, it seems that the R6 has a beefier grip. And the joystick is farther to the left on the body. Would you say that the joystick is harder to reach on the R6 than on the 90D? Or perhaps is it too close on the 90D and can be accidentally bumped?

    • @FitsandFun
      @FitsandFun  3 года назад

      I don't use the joystick very often on either, but when I do I've never noticed an issue with the placement on either of them. And I've never accidentally hit them or nudged them when shooting. After shooting with the 6dMKii for a few years without a joystick I often forget its even there, but when I do need it, it's extremely useful.

    Having used MFT cameras, APS-C cameras and FF cameras, I agree that the FF ones give a bit different look. I cannot put my finger on it. Maybe the FF lenses, which are typically more expensive, are also better because more R&D was put in them. Maybe it's something else. But for my MFT cameras I had 3 of the Olympus PRO lenses, which are pretty much as good as it gets for the system. Still, the FF cameras give me better looking images. I own the 90D. When I bought it, the R6 had not yet been announced ... That's why I upgraded from 80D to 90D. Sp, I don't think you can compare those two cameras. 90D is a crop camera, R6 is a full frame mirrorless, etc.

      I think they are great to compare because they can produce similar results. I've owned both since they were released, I can interchange the two in the majority of situations I use them for.

    WOW this video could not have come at a better time. I have the 90D and have found it a good camera however want to move to a full frame camera and have been looking at the R6 and R5. R5 is very expensive and I have to really justify the price however the R6 could be good price wise. I don't use the video at all therefore the specs and details for the video is actually a non issue for me BUT I found your comparison very valuable and informative. I have been comparing the two in different scenarios (as I have a lend of an R6 from a friend - how lucky am I?) I love to do macro and found the IBIS in the R6 really advantageous. I did notice however the digital zoom in and out that is very useful when focusing manually either in night shots or macro is not available on the R6. Is it there and perhaps I can't find it or is it no available? I don't think it will be a deal breaker but it is very useful for focusing when using the tripod and focusing on very tiny subjects. Great comparison of the 2 camera

      The digital zoom on the R6 is under the joystick. It does not work in tracking AF mode. But in manual or dot af focusing the magnifying glass 🔍 digitally zooms in for me. Unless it's been remapped to do something else on your model of the R6.

      @@FitsandFun oh yes found it!! Thanks. I will give it a go. I have had a play with the R6. Good so far but I don’t think the MB size is good for me. I crop close and tight and like to shoot wide with space to choose.

      I think you'll be surprised at how well you can still crop. I do a lot of wildlife photography and crop a lot. Much better than I thought it would be for cropping.

      @@FitsandFun I am using the R6 all weekend and will see how the cropping goes. It is the only thing so far that is holding me back. I’ll let you know my final decision soon

    Hi Aaron.
    Have you had (or anyone) any luck with the focus when it comes to self portraits?
    I’m using the 50mm 1.8lens and having a difficult time getting myself in focus.
    Anyone having suggestions? (My cannon connect app doesn’t seem to work either).

    WOW, at 7:55 the R6 is clearly the winner in sharpness and detail.
