  • I asked Kevin if he would be down to shoot some photos and talk about the similarities and differences between the 5D Mark IV and the 6D Mark II. This is what we ended up filming. Its obviously not a lab test comparing the two but we just went out to have fun and take some pics.

    The biggest difference I found is in editing. There is more latitude to recover shadows with the 5D Mark IV files than with the 6D Mark II. This sounds like a small thing but when you edit hundreds of files a week...

      The editing process is where i have the most fun, i have a background in design so i go pretty excessive on the editing, my current camera (the a6300) does not give me the canvas i need to edit how i truly want per say and that's the different for me. I'm saving all my cash for the next few months to make the upgrade to the 5d and you won't catch me touching the 6d because i wont be making any compromises

      That's about the only thing I miss on my 6D mkII. But I'm still not convinced I should pay an extra 1000 Euros to get it from the 5D mkII. If I were a professional I wouldn't even think about that and just get the best, but I'm not. Having said that, the 6D mkII does have that simultaneous multiple exposure mode (can't remember what it's called) but I'm yet to explore it.

      Yes, how do you find the 6DMII in comparison to the 5DMIII? I am seriously thinking of going to the 6DMII from the 5DMIII, because I can't afford a 5DMIV, and I like the screen and light weight of the 6DMII. How would you say, IQ wise, the 6DMII stacks up to the 5D MIII? Because if it is equal, I am sold on the 6DMII. Seems like a perfect camera as a lateral "upgrade" to the 5DMIII. I don't care about dual card slots. My backup is a Fuji!

    I find it faster to use central focus point and recompose than change the points with joystick on 5d or wheel on 6d...probably comes from my film camera background. Zed, might I ask: How did you find the shadow recovery with the 6D Mark II, as well as its higher ISO performance, 2000 - 6400 ISO? I have heard a lot of contradicting opinions... I know the dynamic range is not as good as that of the 5D Mark IV, but is it good enough? I mean, if you underexpose for a stop or a stop and a half do you have a problem with too much noise detracting from the RAW image as you push details out of the shadows? How is the highlight recovery? I have never had the slightest problem with my 6D, so am I going to see significant degradation? Your input on this would be most welcome. Cheers, Michael

    • @LeeZavitz
      @LeeZavitz  7 лет назад +5

      Michael Perdikakis the camera as far a dynamic range after 300iso is almost exactly the same as the original 6D. Shadow recovery is slightly worse under 300iso than the original 6D. Everything else about the camera is better though.

    Spent two hours at BB comparing the 5D4 and the 6D2. Speaking of the features, other than the articulating screen, I liked the 5D4 hands down-larger 100% VF, bigger screen, more buttons including the rating botton, joy stick for AF focus point changes, larger wider AF coverage, etc...whether or not those features are worth extra $1k obviously depends on the buyer. It’s worth it for me. Canon has the best most logical and least quirky functionality of all cameras in my opinion. And the Canon color science is awesome for portraits.

    When you do studio photo tethering and using the software Capture One, you cannot have an SD or CF card inside the Canon 5D Mk IV. Capture One stores the images in your computer instead of the SD or CF card. This creates a conflict between capture One and the 5D Mk IV on were to store the images. So remove the cards inside the 5D Mk IV.

    I dont know if its the sigmas, but the colors seems off, like not canon. I remember something similar with the original 6D. Still the 5D3 + 28-70ii give the best look to me, but ive been on fuji camp for a few years too lol.

    Hello! I don’t quite understand how you can make a video comparing two cameras. Any. After all, the result can be whatever you want so that any camera can perform better. It’s always better to use the one that’s more convenient for you to shoot with and that’s more expensive, which is usually almost always better. And a lot depends on the professionalism of the photographer. Sincerely.

      George"gt" Stergiou I have the original 6D and recently purchased the 5d4. Just curious to know why buy the 5d4 having had the 6d2?
      I personally find the 6d's images to be in par still.

    • @GeorgegtStergiou
      @GeorgegtStergiou 6 лет назад

      Because it has more focusing points and the autofocus works better on the 5D mark IV plus it records 4K video. Rather than that no other reason really

    Hi there. I have a question for you, if you still have the Canon 6D Mark II. Have you tried shooting video with it at 23.98 frames per second with the shutter speed at 45 (closest to 48)? How does the motion blur looks to you? I discovered my camera has little to no motion blur with those settings, and if it is a common issue, Canon should be ashamed of it.

      @@TheThxnix1 Not yet, but I'm going to. Honestly, if you like to shoot photos, don't go for the GH5 - it sucks for that compared to any of these two cameras. It's great for video, easy to use and really good for slowmo, image stabilization is great too, but I'll change mine for the 5D mark iV any day.

    Hey audience, i am coming from a canon 40d with a auto depth of field shooting mode.
    Is there any hint to have a priority for depth of field ?
    I found a auto iso and shutter settings stuff like minimum like 1/250 sec, but nothing like minimum of 20inch of DOF.
    In to many case i have sharp eyes and softened ears, with the 40d it was better. If i focus on the ears the nose is softened.
    Intested also the canon R with the adapter with control ring and tried to have the Aperture set to it, but it doesnt work at all, like with the sony and her lenses.
