    It is somewhat laughable that an "older" tech camera isn't worthy of consideration "into the future". Let's see. Pick up any magazine from 5 years ago. I've got prints on my wall 36 x 24 shot with an XTI...hello? It is always about the image, not some tech specs. We have 2 images 3'x4' in the living room...shot with........a Canon A-10 point and shoot 7 mpxl. Everyone keeps chasing the technology. Back when the ID Mk IV hit the scene it was $5,000.00! Every Canon pro on the planet used that camera with stellar imagery from baseball to football to soccer to weddings to portraits...published worldwide. Now it is old tech....and supposedly not worthy. It is the CHEF not the PANS!

    As of December’23, the 6Dii is about 2x the price of the 5Diii on the refurb sites I checked. 5Diii may have lost this comparison but it’s currently a terrific and great-value entry into the FF world.

      @@adetayoadegoke I would get the 6D. The 5DMkIII cost more than double, it's in a completely different league, while you won't notice that much of a difference in image quality, if you notice at all. The 5DMkIII has more focus points, but unless you are shooting birds in flight instead of people, this won't make much of a difference.

    I have a 5DmkIII, an 80D, and an even older 7D. I wouldn't invest in the 6D all things considered. Canon still needs to get it together though. I mean like wow me in the next two years. The D850 was a real flag in the ground for Nikon all over again. The 5DmkIV was close but they need to give up 4K on their DSLRs already. A person that gets a cinema camera is always going to get a cinema camera. If I was just shooting video I'd consider a C200 because C200.

      AyeEye Creation need your help..... I'm planning to buy the 6d mark 2, would you please tell me that it's really bad at low light photography?? Focusing is really a big problem? What about the dynamic range?

    • @ymgaki7715
      @ymgaki7715 7 лет назад +6

      Hello. I came from a 5DmkIV, D750 and 6D background and I honestly do not feel that this camera lacks in low light focus. Yes there may be tests that it has inferior dynamic range at ISO 100 - 200 when comparing to the MKIV or Nikon cameras but that is really if you are to pixel peep and compare the images side to side. In practical usage, I find that the advantages I get from 6DmkIV is far more important then the slightly lower dynamic range at lower ISO. I use this camera for both photography and video and let me tell you that the video that comes out of this camera is amazing. I came from a SONY 6500 background as well so I am very aware of the difference between 4K and HD quality. But there is more to just clarity when it comes to good video. For professional work, I would suggest the MKIV due to the dual card and the 1/8000 shutter and faster flash sync speed. But for everything else, my honest opinion is that if you love flip screen, the lighter body, and don't mind having only one card slot, then this is a camera of great value. If you are into landscape photography and dynamic range is absolutely crucial for you then you might as well go for Nikon or Sony. Hope that helps :)

      I'm a bit unsure about using a DSLR for timelapses. Not referring to quality, but to how quickly you can kill the shutter with timelapses. If you go by the 300k mean cycle count for a DSLR, you get ~166 minutes of 30fps video. Or, considering that the average timelapse is around 30 seconds, 333 videos. Sure, I expect Canons to last a lot longer than the average DSLR, but this is one aspect where a Sony would be better.

  • @DeletedDelusion
    @DeletedDelusion 7 лет назад +6

    Are we polishing a türd here?
    $2000 is a lot of money for a many of people, they will only spend that kind of money if the camera will fullfill all their needs and is not filled with old tech and curtailed on all corners just to make the flagship camera stand out a bit more just because Canon decided to hold back there as well. I hope Nikon will bring out a good replacement for their D750 soon to put pressure on Canon to step up their game as well.
    If you are not a pro you are probably better off buying a good APS-C body like the 80D than getting a mediocre full-frame body, if you are a pro you probably will go with a 5D series because of the better reliability and durability of these cameras.

    Thanks for the comparison, Jared. After years away from SLR photography, I'm here because I wanted to see someone's answer to this specific question because one of these bodies may become my purchase. It's fascinating to see that so many things haven't changed at all since the 70s and 80s (including the hair, lol?), as camera recommendations are still made based on "newer is better" and comparisons of a list of features and numbers. It's just like when I was buying my first Canon film gear in the early 80s. I'd love to see an honest comparison of image quality and dynamic range between these two bodies. I appreciate that there are fundamental differences in features, especially autofocus and video. But even I, the last guy in North America to shoot film regularly, know that pixel count isn't a tell-all measure of sensor superiority, and that a certain newer sensor isn't necessarily better than a particular older one. I've read that the 6D II has shadow or dynamic range issues at low ISO. So is the 5D III better in this respect? Does the 5D III exhibit lower noise? At what ISOs? Bottom line, what's the nitty-gritty answer about the photos (and to a lesser extent, the videos) these bodies will produce, under all conditions of light?

    Bought a 6dii as a second camera to go with my 5diii. Sent it back to amazon and bought a used 5diii. To be honest I shoot next to zero video though.
    For a stills camera I would (and did) take a 5diii over a 6dii any day of the week. The slower sync speed, the slower shutter and the AF system is trash. They might as well stuck with 9 AF points rather than put 45 of them all clumped dead center of the frame. The old 6D had a better spread of AF points.
    On the plus side I really liked the touch screen but it was really the only redeeming thing it had over the 5diii and nowhere near enough to put up with the drawbacks over the 5diii.

Most of my Canon / Canon fit glass is full frame spec as I've always kept this a possibility when buying lenses. I do not agree with the final decision. When looking for a full frame with limited budget, You should add the Canon 6D Mark I. Newer is not only better. The 6D Mark I scores better with high ISO values against these 2. Also dynamic range is better on the 6D mark I then 6D mark II and 5D mark III. You see newer is not always better. Yes the AF of the 6D mark I isn't good, but never gave me any problems, I used the Focus and Recompose Technique, but I agree this does not answer every-bodies needs. For landscapes and portraits I think I would advice the 6D mark I, and use the 800€ difference for a decent L lens.

I'm an event photographer who shoots fill manual and I find it annoying that there is no button in the top of the camera to access the ISO switching. You have to pull it up in the touchscreen and that slows me down drastically. I've missed shots because if that. I hate it. That I've drawback has caused me to set aside my money for another 5d3. Even the Mirrorless m5 has a more efficient way to switch iso. Not much better but at least there is an external method to doing so. I had a bit of problem with the 50mm F1.8, but i found out that it wasn't focusing correct and after i calibrate the lens on my 6D, i have never missed a shot. Of course i still have wet dreams from the time i shoot with my friend's 1Dx but thats an other story.
      i know what you mean, and i would like to have a better focus system on my camera(if the focus points on the 6Dmk2 were spread out it would be the best camera to upgrade for my needs, especially with the flip out screen that i really missed from my 60D when i am shooting on a very low angle astrophotography), but if you know your camera you can really shoot everything you like.

    Hi Jared, I just buy a 6d mark 2 and find BIG PROBLEM that drive me crazy. Its Shutter mode button:
    Before to change shutter mode in all canon pro cameras You need to press DRIVE button and use the SECONDARY Dial (at 6d you can use both dials), BUT at 6dmk2 it changed - you MUST use MAIN DIAL. JUST MAIN DIAL.
    I often switch shutter modes and use it as second camera, so why i need relearn this just for 6dmk2? Its destroys all the habit that i use. Why they change this??? And other buttons like AF, ISO, metering mode works great with both dials like it was before at 6d.
    I think its just big mistake of one engineer, who just did not notice this.
    Can you give CanonUSA know about this problem for fixing it at next Firmware Update?

      6D mark II has bluetooth. so you can pair it with your laptop, phone or any wireless hard drive that can backup realtime your photos for redundancy.

      I was hoping Canon would go with dual SD's on the 6D2 (like Nikon do with the d610 & d750) so I could swap my 5D3s for one .... single card slot= no dice

    I found that there was no need for a joystick on my 80D as that touchscreen can be used to change focus points with my left hand thumb without moving my eye from the viewfinder. I expect this can be done with the 6DmkII.
    Actually works quicker than my 2nd hand 5DSR, that I bought instead of the 6DmkII. Those bunched up focus points swayed me away from buying the later.
    Keeping the 80D though!!

    I'm not OK to put a checkmark to the Digic 7... In fact, the user dont have to take care of that. *if* the fps is better, this is related to the Digic 7
    *if* it canmanage more megapixels, it is related to the Digic 7
    *if* it has a better ISO, it is related to the Digic 7
    etc.
    The digic 7 by itself is only the MEAN to get the performance.
    If they could have the same perf with a Digic 2, why not?

    you summed it up right at the end of this review....That the 2 cameras are not to be compared for the various reasons you mentioned.
    And the 6d mark ii is ideally for those of us who are just entering the world of full frame cameras.
    It is easier than any 5d to get used to. It was not made for the serious professional, however you can use it as such if you know how to get the best out of the 6d mark ii.
    I would not suggest that anyone who is NOT a pro go and invest in any 5d until they have mastered the art of shooting and have been using a crop sensor camera like the 70d or 80d.
    Finally, the pros versus the cons of the 6d ii versus the 5d are clearly s matter of if one wants them to be.
    Unless of course you are a pro...

    It’s great to see a common sense opinion of the 6DII. I have the 5DIII and have no intention of upgrading at all, I still shoot a lot with a 5DII and only got the three because my tethering port broke. I don’t have any intention of upgrading my 7DII either when the new model is released. My cameras easily give me the A2 prints which are my maximum. If I was buying my first full frame camera I’d go for the 6DII purely because it’s a newer camera and even though I’m not into specs I appreciate it would be stupid to buy an older camera for more money. At the end of the day though it’s about the pleasure a camera gives you and the prints you get from it. I don’t understand the point of the vitriol bile the kids spew out in these comments, especially when it’s about what other people spend their money on.

    If one is on a paid shoot or on a once and a life time vacation having one memory slot is a liability. Not sure how often memory cards go bad but they do. Been shooting for years and have never experienced it myself but am considering the law suit on a paid shoot if things go south.

    Video specs are debatable if you count magic lantern getting you 14bit RAW DNG on the 5DMIII and all its other goodies, at least until someone finishes a build for the 6DMII. Surprised there was no mention of magic lantern at all since it's such a huge selling point

    Then 5d mark 3 or 6d mark 2??

    bello! I just discoverd your Chanel and really like it. I would like to ask you something. I have been working shooting weddings dir two seassons with my 6D mark i and I love it. now I see I need another body because I want to start working with no zoom lens (35mm / 85mm) and because I need a back up if something happens to my camera in the middle if a wedding! Un this casa, what would hoy recommend? going with another 6D mark i because I already know it and love working with it, going yo next step to 6D mark ii or give a chance to the 5D mark III?????? by the way we do video too, but always try to use our cameras only for one thing, not the same camera for both photo and video. Thanks for your help!

      What do you shoot? I.e. portrait or landscape etc. If I was starting over now I'd get the Sony A7, you can get one for about 7-800 dollars used. The 6D mark I is still going for about 1200 dollars and it has way less features. The only difference is that Canon has superior and much better range of glass as well as a better used market so you can get great lenses at great discount.

  • @lldd11
    @lldd11 7 лет назад +1

    Why don't you talk about what is really matters - Image quality? All those specs are just numbers on the paper. The image quality is still better from 5D Mark III - that's the fact, I performed the test myself with the same settings, same light, same time. I found that images from 6d mark II are soft and mushy at 100% compare for 5D mark III. also dynamic range looks better, 6d mark II has a lot of those ugly black patches in the shadows. I would go with 5d mark III - any day of the week!!

    Very helpful. I need to upgrade for professional photos but I also make sit down vlogs. The main issue with getting the 6D mark ii is the lack of microphone port! That is so important!

    • @JoshuaMorgan
      @JoshuaMorgan 6 лет назад

      The 6D Mark II does indeed have an external microphone jack. What it _doesn't_ have is a headphone jack which is for monitoring audio. I don't think most (if not any) other DSLR's have that so it's a mute point. If one wanted to monitor the audio they were getting, it would make more sense to simply get a fancy audio recorder setup like the Zoom H5. If all you want to do is record audio with an external RØDE Microphone, this camera will let you do that just like any other good DSLR will. :)

    As someone who had a memory card fail on a single SD slot body during a wedding shoot (luckily I was able to recover all of the files), no way in hell would I recommend anyone tackle a paid event with only a single SD card slot. 99% of the time, all will be fine, but when something does go wrong and you find yourself in front of a bride explaining that all her ceremony pictures are gone, you'll wish you went with the dual slot body!

    Shutter speed 1/8000 is not a great deal because actual shutter speed is about 1/125 and faster values are simulated by shutter slit but not by speed.
