@@joshgaston7839 actually, it might be an actual wing creating lift and not downforce in an airfilled enviroment, which makes sense on a starship build for atmospheric re-entry... Which, you know... Elite and atmospheric re-entry... Yeah not so much.

All I can think of is that one episode in the clone wars animated series, when the clones grab onto the ship taking off and the droid says “we seem to be experiencing drag in the vacuum of space”.
It's a good ship, I solo Thargoids in it, and it's good from a story perspective. It's a panic built ship, literally a militarised cargo ship flung out the door because they needed time to design ships from the ground up. Ship designs take years to do, strapping some armour and shit onto a cargo ship and throwing it out the door gets guns out there now even if it's not as effective as a proper battleship.

From when I spoke to devs at frontier expo I heard they weren't going to give the alliance navy ranks. So lets hope the community won't go full "ship transfers" on the subject.
actually, I agree. The videos are the best (and only) Elite: Dangerous content I still view, even when they are old. Yeah, sure, I have defected to Star Citizen, but E:D still is one of the best games I have ever played in my entire life (which doesn't mean a lot)

Kibbity Flibbit it has really annoyed me how frontier have overlook more or less anything that is different in space than in earth's atmosphere... Maximum speed of ships (it should be maximum acceleration), fire in broken stations and while on emergency oxygen in ships (no oxygen? No combustion!) Etc etc..... I can't understand wether this is frontier messing up on their own or avoiding arguements if they did take into account stuff like that from players who didn't understand it.

Just as the type 9 I actually really like the look of the type 10. I always liked the fat, industrial look on space ships in movies and games. The raw interior of the cockpit also makes me think of something you'd see in an Alien movie. It all looks pretty cool in my opinion... *but* THAT GOD DAMN SPOILER!! What the actual FUCK is that supposed to be?! What were they thinking?! Seriously, a spoiler does NOT belong on any space ship, it doesn't make any sense, it's ugly! And of all the ships in the game they choose the fattest, least streamlined hunk of metal to fit with a race car spoiler!!!

I use them to explain away the spoiler... shield boosters on there makes it seem like they're projecting the shield further out (bigger better shields). Yep, its pointless and that's the shit I have to make up to stop myself being disgusted by my own ship! (Love you really sweet T10)
Its a slow lumbering beast, and even with multiple Engineers help, it still is but i LOVE it!!! Its a colossal hulking tank, and surely we all knew this is what it would be (lore wise, a rush job) But damn, it sure has got character!!! Now THIS would be Arnies ship of choice. Just like a Hummer, completely ridiculous and bad in every single way, but with a certain industrial charm!!!
Plus im from the age of the Ford Sierra Cosworth, which also had a huge pointless spoiler (which shaved about 10mph off top speed) and it was and is still a classic!!!

You are not untouchable, but pretty close. Chunky shields, even chunkier hull, loads a turrets and a fighter.

I suppose you could explain the spoiler as a heat radiator. Realistically Elite ships would either need to constantly leak coolant or have massive radiators

It’s worth mentioning that a rear spoiler high up would help it during reentry. It’s 100% correct physics as you want to move your center of drag back for stabilization. Having it high up gives you a higher angle of attack for aerobraking. It’s like the tail fin of a rocket.

True i do have an exploration conda but its not always about getting somewhere the fastest.
Oh, it's good for exploration. Decent jump range (it won't get you to the fringes like the Anaconda graveyard, but for the centre it's good), lots of slots to make things robust (you can have spare SRVs, Hull repair, multiple AFMUs), and a convenient place up top to park your SRV for a good view.
Have fun landing it planetside.

I have a combat T10 and an exploration one. I'm thinking of taking a nice leisurely trip to the core in it.
The best thing about this ship, it has body kit that lets you put spoiler under your spoiler for even more downforce.

I like it. Glass cannon, and it's glass can't hold a single C1 Cannon Shot without being destroyed. Absolutely wonderful! And, on the beta, I nearly killed myself in it by ramming a Conda twice
That "spoiler" is actually a stabilizer/winglet. It produces lift instead of downforce, but most importantly it produces drag.
I won't bore anyone by splooging text about aerodynamics everywhere (Yamiks is a bad influence) but basically you'll see winglets more on ships that presumably have greater mass in the back of the ship rather than the front (the Hauler for example). Think of the center of mass as a fulcrum, and the farthest parts of the ship from that center of mass as the ends of levers. The re-entry forces applied to the parts of a ship furthest from the center of mass (the lighter portions) will be multiplied greater than the other ends when translated into forces trying to rotate the ship around.
Without winglets, these ass-heavy ships would flip to go ass-first when entering thicc atmosphere. The key to preventing that is to balance the forces on the front and back of the ship, but the front of the ship gets that unfair leverage multiplier for the forces it's receiving... So you deliberately ADD forces to the heavier end of the ship by increasing the drag. That winglet you think is a spoiler is in fact designed primarily to increase the drag on the ass of your Battle Cattle, and make sure the rear end experiences as much, or more, forces than the front end during an atmospheric re-entry. It just has to balance out to be the end being forced more by the surrounding atmosphere than the front end so that the front end stays pointing forward.

Made a miner out of mine. Works just fine and can defend itself agaist AI fairly well with out using up a slot for a fighter.

You know that all serious combat vehicles have a spoiler, however the type 10 is a modified type 9, the "spoiler" is a wing for atmospheric flight, the winglets too, the irl practicality of it is actually quite high
IMAGINE:
You sit in your comander chair in the big cockpit, now you would select te option "stand up", now we still see through our comanders eyes and controll the pilot like egoshooter inside the ship. the whole ship would be accessable.. we open the door and walk out of the cockpit into a corridor,.. every ship has its unique interior, and all has its function and purpose. you have to walk to the SRV hangar if you wanna take a ride, Holome only in captns room. there would be a "Holoroom" to "login" with the comander where players could share storyes and idees in the "HoloNet". learn about lore and actuall issues. meet with others,.. someships have a smal laboratory where rare minerals and stuff could be interactive "analyzed" and the data could be for a future mission handeld to the science department in a spaceport (where you now also have to move inside stations to get stuff..

at this stage of game development, yes, yes it is difficult, almost impossible to do. the equivalent in motor vehicle technology would be; asking a mechanic to replace the clutch in your car with an experimental clutch design and hoping it doesn't break several systems instantly, which it will. not only are you asking this, you are asking that it be done WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING THE BLOODY CAR! you see, in a video game, your avatar/vehicle/whatever doesn't actually move, it's the background that is moving, the opposite to real life, you see? it's not about giving your avatar "the ability to move around", the ship doesn't even move, the background graphics do, and they are very restricted in how they move, it depends what ship you are in. you would have to design a movement system into the game that is so radically different to the current system, it would break the game. this kind of thing has to be in development from day one, or not at all.

Hey look you can complain all you like about a spoiler on a spacecraft all you like, but if Star Wars says that bombs "drop" in space and that spaceships have to have fuel otherwise they just come to a full stop I say it's fine.
(Just kidding obviously, I have massive problems with those things.)

Technically the bombs would “drop” if you really think about it there is no gravity in space. All you would have to do is push one of those bombs and a downward angle and they would appear as if they were falling by a force of gravity. Another good example, let’s say hypothetically that our moon actually had zero gravity. All someone would have to do is jump and they would never fall back down
Don't forget that one of the ship ID decals clips through some superstructure (even though the other decal is fine), the thing is a pain to land on planets because its underbelly practically drags on the ground, and when you deploy an SRV, sure it lifts itself up, but then the landing gear ISN'T EVEN ATTACHED TO THE SHIP ANYMORE.

The wings are so it can make it into the hangers, without the wings ability to fold up the type ten's model would be too large to enter the hanger without clipping.

Added "spoiler" and wings for improved atmo flight (for a combat ship, every little bit helps), the cockpit is a bit too big, sure but as an enemy to the ships you never want to be in front of it anyway. So the cockpit is not in that much danger. The added boobjob is just that: a boobjob... well needed for the saggy Type-9 (i love the type-9 also btw). So i dont realy mind.
Whats so wrong with standardized parts for ship design? Like i drive a Volvo. The instrument board looks the same on my Volvo as with quite alot of other later models, because that was Volvos look. To me, this makes sense. you dont reinvent the wheel for every cart.
About the price, its where i'd expect it tbh. If i would be the one to set the price, it would end up pretty much the same (well 150m since i like neat numbers)
but this is just my opinion and nothing more.

Bought it, engineered the crud out of it, flew it to Maia, hopped in my anaconda, stripped the type 10 for parts and sold it. No way I was taking that heap into battle with a thargoid over my conda. First time I flew it I honestly thought my yaw control was broken.

I like it, don't know why but I have fun with this thing, but I guess I'm going to RP it as a dedicted mining ship when mining gets its update this year. FYI I'm getting a 24 ly jump with 460 odd cargo, not too shabby imo

One thing I will say that I like about the Type-10 is if you slap some yellow paint on it, you get the Rebel Flagship from FTL: Faster Than Light.

I use the ship for mining. It hulls more tonnage than the Anaconda and it has more armor. Add an 8A power plant and go to town. For the pirates, I use two large beam lasers to knock out their shields. Then I followup with two large and one medium multi-canon. With all that defense, I still have room for all of my mining equipment. It does lumber through space like a garden slug, but I don't worry about it. I do find the high pitch engine noise uncomfortable, though.

So its basically The Keelback, just for the Type 9. It is not all bad, in terms of functionality, it's actually quite good. It's the one ship for everything. You can have both have mining equipment and decent weaponry at the same time.
So, I haven't played E:D in a few months, saw this come up in my subscriptions and figured I'd check it out. Five seconds in and I laugh out loud. God what the hell. Tell me that's a ship kit, please tell me that's a ship kit.

While I think it's a tank for sure, seems to me FDEV is TOTALLY mailing it in lately. Didn't even reconfigure the cargo cockpit for anything resembling combat. Not even painted, and now has BRIGHTER lights?
Who said a giant useless spoiler was ok? Who said a Type 9 cockpit was a good idea for combat? Why flapping wings, or wing tips at all? Why install more thrusters and hard points but leave the power distributer too small to power them as well as previous ship's efficiencies? This would put any manufacturer out of business today, going backward like this.
It's like an Abram's tank without power enough for the primary weapon, moving at 10 miles an hour; sure it can take a hit, but only because it moves as fast as Grandma in a powered wheel chair with a dead battery, and can't do anything about it.
I just figured out what the spoiler is for: even LARGER hit box, because being the size of an actual barn wasn't enough.
FDEV, the concept of this game and what it could be is AMAZING, unfortunately it's in your hands and you've been breaking said game for over a year now. PLEASE sell this game to a good developer who will put actual thought into it (and make sure that one smart PH.D guy who built the Galaxy goes with them).

you forgot to mention that type-10 has more "hull hardness" than type-9. Actually it has more hull hardness than any other ship in game.
whats the point of hull hardness, when there are still the same two weapons ignoring that (rail + plasma), and then the obvious allmighty corrosive debuff that reduces all hardness down to where all large weapons do almost 100% damage anyway + 25% extra from the debuff?
for me the most anoying factor of the type10 is not the distributor, but the supercruise turn rate. its faster to just drop from supercruise, turn around and engange the jumpdrive again, when you are trying to drop on a station...

Yeah the whole ship is a specialty ship for fighting thargoids. The in-game creators even said as much XD I'm about to buy one to compliment my fleet and use it as my go-to thargoid killing machine :P The distributor as he mentions being bad, is because, all the thargoid weapons are low on distributor draw. The ship has the best dps vs thargoids and best defense too (thargoids weapons bypass shields sometimes entirely in the case of the palpatine lightning attack lol)
I can't get over the fact that they did the same thing in the 17th century when they took a trade galleon and tried to make it into a warship. But it was barely more maneuverable than the trade galleon and a complete joke. Oh yes, more guns, but good luck ever bringing them to bear before you're boarded and sunk.

Last thing the cockpit SHOULDN'T have free hanging or loose wires & no support beams but for the luxuries cupholders & liquid dispensers on both sides of the main pilot seat.

In my head, it's an armed trader or passenger ship. Really, though the Conda is a better combat or explorer ship, and trades just fine. So, not sure what I would do with a Type 10. Besides, spent all my money on a cheap Fed Dropship...the love is real.

Ha, I get that. As I say, I fly a Dropship despite having a Conda, a Python, an FDL... because I love the stupid thing. Not because it is demonstrably better, clearly it isn't. Just something about it makes me happy. And I know people are feeling that about the Type 10.
I'm a collector and love all the ships for what they are. Flew my 1st road to riches in a Hauler, travelled to the nearest Herbig and back (no self destruct shortcut haha 😂) Star with my Hauler and iEagle for a photoshoot for a Portuguese Fan Magazine and so much more other "weird" stuff - just because I enjoy the routine breaking up, I enjoy the chaos that can be haha.
Recently got around a little rank grind and bought the Fed Dropship and am also loving it!
..and just yesterday I was able to make enough money to finally buy me my beloved T10 'Drug Tank' and my 'Chief Keeftain', am just loving them all haha, just too awesome. I love all the ships that other hate/disregard/find to be not viable , I just dont want to stick to the 5-6 best ships for each role, it's just more fun & I find I learn way more about the game than I'd do otherwise.
I somehow always fly the bricks and drifty/weak/odd/hard to get used to kinda ships haha, the 'cool' stuff like my 'Conda and FerDeLance haven't even seen any use other than one test flight after buying, just loving my odd bunch way too much 🙈
Got nearly all ships (except MKIV, as I'm on PS4 and haven't pre-ordered - meh. I'd actually even pay 10-15$ for a DLC that'd unlock the MKIV for people like me that haven't preordered ED back then, even tho the MKIV is considered to be shit anyways 😅), only actually miss the fed rank ships up from FDS and all Imp rank ships as of now 😅

Yamiks , your videos are wonderful dirty comedy . Could you possibly do a recording and some things with miner factions? Hopefully as you have done every ship already . Doing a vid on each government type and how they effect law and order in colonised space in piece meal one by one separate videos could be worthwhile.

It (T-10) is a truly hilarious ship though, for mostly the wrong reasons yea. Mind-blowing this is someone's actual work.

I'm assuming frontier have future plans with the type 10, the whole ship doesn't make sense, and frontier has a habit of holding back useful stuff and it's getting pretty annoying, like when they released the size large weapons directly after the the thargoid community goal that waisted alot of people's time and money. the ship has a bunch of wierd objects on it so they will probally release type 10 specific weapons and modules that will make it less useless. i always picture some fat kid getting excited about ice cream whenever I see this little flippers go up and down
I like the type 10, its has become my main big ship in the game, with a fighter bay and all multi-cannon load, its a very good combat trader
I agree! I have been using this joke of a ship for ages. And use it EXCLUSIVELY for killing scouts... yep. The only darn thargoid it can kill safely. It's convergence is so shit shots almost curve around interceptors. It's speed cannot out run the thunder cannon. It gets mass locked and can't escape...in general, it sucks at the one thing it was designed for. But I strangely love it so :D
Why is spoiler a problem for you? It is a decoration for ship, basically space ship could look as sphere or cigaret, there is no point for SPACE ship to have wings (since wing's main function is to make thing stable and flyable in atmosphere, and we don't have any atmosphere landings still!), so this spoiler is just a fancy design.

First time I saw this... thing I thought it's a joke. I thought I was just shown a Type 9 with body kit. Who the hell had the idea to take a freighter that handles like a tortoise on sleeping pills, and has about the same level of battle readiness, into a battleship for battling a superior alien race with far superior technology?!? But hey, at least it's got flappy wings and an effing spoiler.

They COULD fix it, not by removing it (because for some reason, beyond me, they put utility slots on it) but by adding something to it to make it noe feel like a race car spoiler. . . If thats even possible.

Am I missing something, it looks like I get the storage space of a type 9 but with more weapons. What is the the problem with that?
I learned that this thing has a lot less cargo but I found another use, support! Load it up with repair limpits and the such and go out into battle with friends. Maybe be anti gankers or the such. While your friends dish and take damge you repair them from afar so they have a better chance at winning. The turrets hold off the enemies while friends deal with them.

I bought my T10,fully engineered it and went off to Maia. It wasn't until I had to high wake 5 times because I can't kill a Thargoid that I was thinking to myself: "Why am I flying this f***ing heap of sh*t?I don't even care about the Thargoids or the lore behind it"
So I personally can only recommend the T10 if you really like killing Thargoids and/or you're not that rich,on the bright side,the T10 is a good module storage expansion.Oh,and from what I can tell the T10 makes a good explorer...but don't use it,use an Asp or something else.
Can anyone tell me what a stripped down type 10 trader can max haul and jump range I hear its a better trader then 9 and anaconda only beat out by cutter.
The spoiler acts like a decoy. Enemys will immediately hate it and shoot at it exclusively. That's how it protects more vital parts of the ship.
I feel there should be one more exploration ship and then some ships that are locked to the alliance like how the federal corvette is locked to the federation and the imperial cutter to the empire.
I love this ship personally. Giant weaponized cargo ship. The cockpit has a great view.

I love my type 10 defender, I use it mostly for mining and sometimes swap modules, for an Exploration platform. I named it the SSV GalaxyFortress. I even got the ship kit. It's around 37 light-year jump range.

I would give Frontier all of the Arx if they'd only let me take the spoiler off. Otherwise, I love the Type 10. It's the space version of the B29 Superfortress.

Steve Hunter yep that could well be something to do with it. Ive got a 10 and never even noticed those, and theres plenty of them.
Since no ship in elite dangerous has ever followed any sort of logic within physics, it's kind of dumb to mention physics at all. Especially because flight is much more complicated than anyone understands, and the methods used to achieve flight a thousand years in the future is not the same as today. Physics isn't so simple and not many people can make proper judgements, especially because there's not much info on any of these ships.
i can explain the idea behind the flapping wings, takes up less room when not in use, like jets on an aircraft carrier

the type 10 was designed by the 10 yrs old son of one of the lakon employees in the engeering departement (hence the spoiler to make it look cool). But due aforementioned heavy consumption of space-cocaine, leesti evil juice and onionhead, nobody at lakon spotted this, and the design was unanimously aproved for production.

I like open cockpits, so that didn't bother me, and folding parts for landing is not entirely crazy, but after equipping and doing some test flights, I sold mine back. Ugh. Side Note: I have been waiting breathlessly for Yamiks to review the Type 10. WORTH THE WAIT!
