Hey all, I'm back with another ship review - this time it's the turn of the Type-10 Defender - Lakon's first attempt at creating a 'goid-buster. Apologies for it taking slightly longer than normal - every time I've tried to get footage for this one with Thargoids, I've got distracted and just started blasting them. Hope you enjoy it - and hopefully the gap won't be as long before the next one.
Just my opinion. From what I've seen, the most common complaint about the T10 is not that it won't do the things it's made to do. And do them well. The problem I see is people trying to fly it like it was a medium or even small ship. And that is something it just won't do. It's not designed to fly like a medium or small ship. It's made to fly like a great big beast who wants you off his lawn.
That's what I keep saying. This thing is a gunbrick. It's meant to be a roving fortress that all but the most determined of combat minmaxed vessels will have almost zero chance of bringing to heel just in terms of how durable it is. The combat pilots are thinking of it like flying a hotshot starfighter, but I feel like the approach to the Type-10 is more so a battleship or like a small capital ship. It's slow, heavy, bulky, and it obliterates anything in it's sights. It's a fantastic anchor ship in wings. Not only are you quite capable of fighting back, you're almost never a priority target because you're just so damn hard to crack. And you can be a fantastic support vessel in addition to being a gun barge. Solo it's not that good, though the SLF really helps with pesky agile craft at least - it still flies like a brick and AI are just annoying to deal with. But at the same time, nothing is quite as fun as just pointing your guns at someone and just letting them rip into them with the highest dps in the game. If you can manage to convince two buddies to come for a multi crew session, it essentially becomes a flying battlestation shooting at all directions or with 2 slf's at once.
i LOVE how the T10 looks. it inspires fear in the fact it resembles Darth Vaders mask. i LOVE how the T10 sounds. it is a beast. it actually makes a good medium range explorer. great at mining, great AFK... ive had horrible experience thargoid hunting, when i have to break off and retreat, the T10 is so slow, the thargoid interceptors just follow me and keep plinking away until im dead, so there is no reliable retreat that im aware of... with all this, i love the T10 for many things. they make a great missile/torpedo boat as well
I don’t get how it inspires fear or resemble Vader’s mask in any way 🤔 It looks funny to me 🤷🏻♂️ like a cute cuddly teddy bear 😊 I love the concept anyway, I wish it had a way more aggressive look
The T10 is my most used ship. Got to Elite combat rank with it... The only think I wish they did, was include the stabilzer thing as standard so you get two extra experimental weapons.
I like multi-mining. That is, having all the mining tools on a ship. Type-10 is great for that. It has enough hardpoints to have a powerful laser mining array, all the other tools and have few left over for defensive weapons. With fully engineered thrusters it can keep up with a spinning asteroid too.
Putting an engineered prismatic shield on this allows it to sit and laugh at pirates. Add a hull tank to the mix and walk away while it makes you billions in pirate massacre missions. Haven't tried it with the full auto cannon load out yet, but that looks to have an insane giggle factor.
i think this is a bit of a misunderstood ship. it was built for thargoid hunting but i dont really see it as its best spot. i think this ship is best compared to the anoconda, they can do similar things in the respect that they are both very versatile, very tanky, very armed and very expensive. Its combat ability is a bit better than the anaconda given it can manoeuvre better, with anything but fixed weapons it does converge reliably when you know where to point the "nose" (of you wanna call a glass bubble a nose), it has slightly better firepower (therefore putting it at the top of the roster when it comes to the amount of damage it can dish out though its very close between these two), and due to the potential class 8 generator it can have considerably faster charging shields (though i think the anaconda has a higher max shield capacity, me personally i prefer faster charging over raw shield). It is among the top 3 highest cargo capacities of a shielded ship The anaconda is obviously going to be a better jump ship given its unrealistic weight, though it does have a considerably better jump range than something like the federal corvette (again, highlighting the versatility) Its also one of, if no the best mining ship in the game. there isnt much in it between the type 10 and anaconda, most of their disparities are small all things considered, though id give the edge in combat to the t10 and exploration to the anaconda. Either ship is going to be great at pve combat, but will also take up any other task you throw at it with ease (unlike a corvette) All of this but for some reason it has a bad rep, when you really look at things, as i said its very comparable to an anaconda.
I have a Type 10 that I've done fuck all with since I bought it years ago. The only action it's gotten thus far was coming out of storage so I could use it to buy an 8A Prismatic earlier this week (that one hurt), I haven't got a Cutter yet. Been considering taking a look at the whole AFK farming thing as a possible use for it, but I have other priorities in the game at the moment.
What engineering you got loaded on there? Might have to dig mine out and have a play next time I'm at a port that's close to it (next review is likely to be a "few" ly out of the bubble, as it'll be an exploration ship)
If you can, wing up with a friend who has a shield stripping load out. Then put packhounds on every possible hardpoint, line up the target and fire them all at once. Beautiful, just beautiful. And very very funny
I generally prefer medium ships to large, but from time to time I get my t10 for goids hunt. Always welcomed in groups with my 250 size 7 repair limpets )
I tried it as an armed trader but it really never made an impression to earn a permanent party spot in the rotation. I'd have to look at some builds to give it another go.
I like the type 10 and have tried it, unfortunately it's lack of maneuverability let's it down for me when bounty hunting, now I only like it when it turns up with a bounty so I can dismantle it with my corvette. After your review I might give it a go with thargoids
It cost me a fortune, time and experimenting but its my ship (not pvp tho) many ships do things better like a combat anaconda but I can mine and fight, cargo and fight or just fight in it. And I love the view in it. I find the cutter, whilst a better miner for storage, clumsy and hard to see asteroids.
My type 9 got blown up too often. My type 10 does not. A Type 9 with a fighter works well too, the fighter distracts the pirate lone enough to jump away. A type 10 with a fighter is a pirate meat-grinder.
the type 10 at launch was trash, the fix to the power distro made me re-buy and outfit+eng one up... its my favorite ship, and i have the cutter and vette... the 10 is just more fun... as to turning around in super cruise, cut throttle to 25-30% helps with turn around alot, and the ship works best from my exp with bi-weaves prismatics are ok but the recharge time is painfully bad, where the biweaves will have less cap but recharge far faster.. low draw fast charge biweaves work great, more so if you stack resistance augmented boosters and some super cap boosters with resistance to phy... add some phy for ramming ;) its highly effective in this thing... stuff gos splat real fast... my cutter is fun as well, but... the 10 is just more fun in general, also i am told its way better for mining due to hardpoint mix, i mostly just brought people limpets and ran defense for mining, also would collect the stuff they didnt want to keep... more then once i would make a long run out to a good spot we used to drop them limpets, and come back to get more with a load of stuff i needed to sell to make room for limpets... the things just beastly... anything decided to try and take your cargo.. well npc's 7vs1 were a blast back before they messed up the wing missions.. heh...

@@stankobarabata2406 to steal a line from another youtuber, people talk trash about me for using turrets. I don't care. Those people are dead now.
@@draconusspiritus1037 A legendary quote.
I believe its one of the most underrated ships, even in the shield meta thingy, its hull tank capabilities are insane and the DPS it can outdish at
yeah you saw the video, ok we get it.

Love your matter of fact and straightforward reviews. Looking forward to the next one!
Named my Type-10 the "Barge". I feel the name does a good job of describing the ship.
Mine's called "Donk", 'cos when all else fails, just ram your opponent.

Any chance you could link to this build? I’m new to the game and this seems really fun as someone who isn’t very good at flying or combat yet
I do really like the Type9 maybe i should try the type 10
Fun fact, when it first came out it carried more cargo than the Type 9. Then they hit it with the nerf bat.
they didnt nerf it, they gave the type 9 another class 8 slot

The Type-10, something you could mistake for a roving battlestation rather than a ship
If you can, wing up with a friend who has a shield stripping load out. Then put packhounds on every possible hardpoint, line up the target and fire them all at once. Beautiful, just beautiful. And very very funny
I can imagine the sight... shame none of my friends play Elite XD
I just want to take off the spoiler and it would be one of my favorite ships.
My Type10 is set for mining.... I love when i get scanned by pirates :)
I have used it as a miner as well lol > ruclips.net/video/3nOksvCbGko/видео.html
lol, Yeah , I was scanned and threatened recently by a pirate in a sidewinder! Didn't end well for him.
@@ChessArmyCommanderGotta respect the balls, though.
Or would if it wasn't an AI pirate.

I havent afforded one yet but i just love the idea of it. Going to try some AX builds with it
I love the Type 10 design, it looks badass

i call my t 10 the heavy duty caravan, it does everything
Thank you for making these Elite Dangerous Vids. please keep up the good work. I rate you a 7\10. I see potential for you to become 9\10 :D
Best torpedo launcher for one shot kill. o7

Isn't the Type 10 primarily for people who want to play Elite by, not playing Elite (AFK Bounties)?
arguably it's the players who don't afk that are playing elite by not playing Elite (mindless grinding)
Can't tell if this guy is 20 or 40... and I'd prefer it remain that way lol.
Somewhere in between, with a heavy lean in one of those directions 😆
Just load up on turrets and have a laugh, it also has the highest armor rating in the game so
Gret ship - just hated the engine sound.
This is the ship gave me a fleet carrier with only in 7 days with the afk build
The only ship I didn't buy.. I abhore that spoiler in the back
