FA OFF and that hauler would have been no problem
we focused on hauler while FDS was pounding us .. that was the mistake... but we had fun and that's more importan + makes for a good story!

I'll have to respectfully disagree with TheYamiks. After the Vulture, the next ship for most combat pilots is the FDL, with some alternatively turning to the FAS. I combat-tested both extensively and found the FAS to be far more maneuverable, which suits my particular playstyle more.
The one you pick will depend on whether you like to boost turn, joust, and pop shield cell banks (pick the FDL), or if you like to maneuver to your target's six and stick to them at close range (pick the FAS). Both are excellent combat ships and I recommend people try them out and pick the one that fits their playstyle best. For me, it's the FAS by a decent margin.
for more casual players FAS wont be the choice as it;s locked behind a stupid system
Yep, grinding faction for it sucks, but that doesn't make the ship bad. The Anaconda isn't bad because you have to grind credits for it.
TheYamiks a system you can literally halfway complete in few hours.... It doesn't take long at all to gain the ranks
I have an FDL and FAS both, A-graded both, and the FAS is also significantly tougher. My FAS takes a beating and can burn a wing of opponents out of the sky, but the FDL will die if it comes under fire for long.
Jason Henley I'm loving mine, it just feels right for me, everything about it. I've had python, gunship, the Lance, chieftain and challenger..... but the FAS just FEELS RIGHT. Made for me.
I love this ship and I actually do PVE in it a lot. The main thing is you just gotta watch your shields like a hawk. They drop super fast but most things firing at your can either be outran or outmaneuvered until your shields are back up. I just retract my guns, hit boost a couple times and I'm good to recharge biweaves.

I love my FAS (I'm an Imperial pilot btw) I'm able to solo elite Corvettes in this thing. With the right setup the FAS is just unrelentingly aggressive in PVE and very few NPC ships can stand against you if you're a decent enough pilot. It does require making full use of its maneuverability, though. Any gap in your flying skills is immediately punished since 9 times out of 10 you are hull tanking whatever it is you are fighting.
I use 5C Bi-Weave shields with the best thermal resist mod I could get, along with 2 class A shield reinforcements with yet more thermal resist. The shields drop real quick if you're not vigilant (imo you need to fly like you don't have shields at all from the get go) but they recharge in seconds, giving a nice buffer to your hull tank.
In summary, it is a great ship, but to use it properly requires a drastic departure from your usual modus operandi. If you falter whatsoever, your punishment is swift and severe. But used properly, even engineered big ships will wilt under your sheer aggression.
Hope a Corvette review is coming. One cannot resist the double pronged mega dongs of the 'Vette.

i dont know how many hrs you already have in this game but try making your "thrust-meter" in the (in your case) white area! i cant watch you trying to outmaneuver a imp eagle with thrust always set to max. also that's probably the reason you died to a hauler.
while I call myself combat oriented pilot, I like to just play the game more casually and enjoy it without stressing too much on what i'm doing...that's the reason i make such videos too.. i dont take things too seriously!
oh and i go for full throttle cuz i'm soo use to playing with turn-fighters i cant force myself to use the blue zone, instead i wait for boost!
TheYamiks even fighting with "turn-fighters" you should still be dropping to the blue zone while turning
unless you can constantly boost!
What happens then? You boost, great do you know you get massive drift when you max speed turn boost as opposed to blue zone turn boosting? You will line up adleast 25% quicker turn boosting in the blue than maxing it. It may work againgst AI however you could sit in one spot and beat AI anyways.

A FAS outfitted with engineered heavy armor and hull reinforcement modules with a class 4 module reinforcement, plus 4 Grade 5 efficient plasma accelerators with preferably target lock breaker and scramble field, plus grade 5 dirty drive tuning, thermal-resistant biweave shields and resistance-augmented boosters, backed up by a Grade 5 power distributor basically makes this thing Jason Vorhees on crack.
But look! The wings are in the proper direction now!

I'm excited to see the comments on this ship. I just started ED less than a week ago and I am having tons of fun doing the Navy missions. I plan on using all the Navy ships up to the Corvette. Then I'll most likely move on to the next faction.

The Federal Gunship is what you want. That ship has balls.
I can't wait for your iClipper review, my favourite ship and I would argue the Imperial version of the FAS since it has identical hardpoints, and similar maneuverability with the Clipper being faster but lighter and the FAS being slower and heavier.

This is so far the best combat ship I have in elite, 4 PA and 4500+ armor, decent top speed and turning speed (only a G3 dirty drive though), I can easily take out big ships like anaconda and even a corvette of a friend's... loved your video but couldn't finish watching this one lol

I'm trying to figure out what's a good load out for bounty hunting....right now i have my 2 Med beam lasers and 2 Large Multi-Cannon...would it be better for me to swap them and have 2 large beam laser and 2 med multi-cannon?

Hmm, a somewhat difference of opinion (like you care). I actually consider the FAS the next step up from the Vulture for PvE CZs, sure FDL behaves more like a grown up Vulture but the kitted out price puts the FAS between a Vulitre and an FDL. Sure flies more like a fighter than the dropship does. However I expect I am just as biased towards the Fed ships, as you are possibly against them.
ye it can be a really good step up if not for the rank... most ppl just wont bother to do that!

I wanted to call mine the "Free Willy" because how the engines sound when you decelerate. It also looks like a killer whale.
the assault ship a good decent hard hitter that can be tanky and good manoeuvrability . I like this ship, its like a well balanced boxer with good defense who wins the fight over time.I almost didn't buy it because of Yamiks low credit review for this ship!, but I realized Yamiks hate on 90% of the ships on this game, he almost like NONE of the ships. I went one on one with a type 10 last night, I was so fast and moved around it, make it look like a big baby. I am going to hold on to this badboy until I get the Gunship probably.also, I am going to stay away from yamiks reviews... I heard him talking bad about the challenger, but I brought that ship as well and had a BLAST!

Curious what you are going to say about the Gunship when you get to it, as I have recently taken a liking to it.
As for the Assault ship I didn't care much for the FAS, didn't feel durable enough when I tried it.

I figured as much (the grind for the rank is horrible). There is something I'll let you know right now: Looking for a ship that is quick and agile? Well... keep looking. It is the least maneuverable of all the medium ships.
Gunship for the win! Engineer for maximum dakka, point it at something, hold trigger until it goes boom! Never gets old. Haz res and CZ are easy. Killing wings with Anacondas - all doable. Fighter makes it awesome - and compensates for one of its two weaknesses - speed. Second weakness - shields are made of wet tissue, even engineered.
Aditional: make it a two bay fighter hangar. NPC + human fighters simultaneously, plus an extra pip (stick in engines), and it's a very effective.
Cmdr "Pay for Pips" is available for hire...
