That's really a neat idea to turn all the drawings into a story.

Thanks! I think it makes it easier to figure out what to do for each prompt...and gives you at least one thing you can control!

Planning ahead by thinking about what to draw for each prompt, and doing some thumbnails were what got me through Inktober last year. Restricting yourself somehow by size, subject/theme, time, etc was also very helpful. I'm a little more ambitious this year, so we'll see how it goes.

This is my first time, I’m a complete and total noob (you know just a fortnight beyond the draw straight lines, drawabox, draw some circles phase) but I thought I will give it a shot…like even if it is an ugly mess, at least I will get enthusiasm points…I have nothing planned, nothing sketched, and your videos are my lifeline…I’m just gonna use Inktober to learn HOW to DRAW…have fun switching it up…right now, because I’m competitive and at least wanna have something on the page for everything I’m combining prompts like crazy (is this allowed? Some of them logically marry…like navigator and uncharted) and I’m going for a messy doodle style…nothing too realistic or ambitious. I have a cute gnome heroine…did I mention that I am panicking (slightly???) and that your videos are literally my safety rope to sanity? Please don’t stop posting or we the fans will literally DIE. Ok…so no pressure….is all cool….😂😂😂😅
EDIT: so I have my cute gnome navigator at a table working out calculations on an incomplete map. Navigator + Uncharted. Allowed????
Sorry if I’m babbling…it’s just everyone is too good and it’s genuinely scary….
Edit 2: ohmigosh, do we gotta make a story? With a logical flow? 🙈🤯

You are totally fine! You don't have to make a story at all, and you can totally combine prompts. The whole thing is pretty loose, and about the time spent drawing with ink!
I combined rhino and jumbo into a huge snake like underworld dragon, and then am combining a whole bunch later on for a camping scene!

@@zack_feldman thanks Zack. Pretty chill of you to respond so soothingly. I liked your idea of having one-off little doodles…everything doesn’t have to have some massive worldbuilding earthshattering impact, so for DISCOVER I just had my gnome heroine (Marigold) meet a cute gnome dude and they on a coffee date. For RHINO I’m just gonna put her in a kooky Halloween costume…and journal, passport, and backpack were all combinable if I had not completely lost my head. Thanks for being so nice about it…right now I got no clue what to do for RUST tho…but have no doubt I will figure it out…storytelling is not the problem, I don’t have the chops yet to execute a scene….without major wonkiness…

My first inktober.. So do i need to buy a 30 page or 40 page sketchbook?? ..

This is my 2nd Inktober. Last year, I used an old plain notebook and a cheap gel pen I already had. No special purchases. Just fun and practice. If I needed a prompt, I looked one up on RUclips.

Like said, you don't have to buy anything. I'm not even using a sketchbook for mine right now. Whatever you have, whatever is accessible. I like bristol paper, but any will do, and I like microns for their pitch black, but any pen will do!

I tend to do mine in inktense as I like colour. I'm aiming to do inktober this year when I haven't for a few years now. But the three years or so I did do it, it definitely helped with drawing skills.
I actually like the prompts this year compared to previous ones, but then I'm more of a landscape painter.
    Great drawing btw.

      Thanks!
Hope you enjoy it, and glad you like the prompts this year. I miss some of the intriguing and odd ones from last year, but I've also finished (almost) 2 big pieces based on the prompts, and the drawings have been a blast so far!

The planning ahead part is good thing always, people make mistakes and most struggle with drawing everyday. This is my first inktober and my process is a no brainer, do at least a week worth of drawing prompts so I'll have them ready for instagram and I won't feel like playing catchup.

    • @zack_feldman
      @zack_feldman  День назад +1

Yeah, the catchup takes a lot of the fun out of it...I've been there many times. I accidently went big on my 3rd and 4th this year, so I'll have to go small on a couple!

Yep, there is an official list out each year. This year's had some minor controversy concerning being boring, but I'm sticking to them. Whichever way you go, the challenge is fun to engage in though!
