- Brand New Series designed to use up charm packs or 5 inch squares of leftover fabrics!
I love charm packs! Those cute little bundles of fabric lure me in and make me buy them.
Now I need to start using them before the collection I have overwhelms me! Fortunately there are hundreds of awesome projects that use charm packs to make anything from full sized quilts to baby quilts to bags and more! We will be using charm packs for all of the projects, but leftover fabrics from projects cut into 5" squares will also work! Most of the videos will include a sample made from a charm pack (or two or three or more) AND a sample made from leftovers from other projects.
Make your own charm packs! Cut up your stash and create your own charm packs using fabric you already own. One fat quarter can be cut up to make 12 five inch squares. A third of a yard of fabric can be cut up to make 16 five inch squares. When you finish a project, if you have leftover yardage, cut it into five inch squares and start a pile to use for future projects. Have some fun with your stash of fabrics!
For the final version of the quilt in the video, I added two piano key borders to it using my 2 1/2" strip bucket! If you use a charm pack and want to make it bigger, buy a jelly roll that coordinates with the charm pack to use in the borders! A perfectly coordinated quilt!

When I am in a quilt shop I tend to buy myself a charm pack as a little treat, especially if I don't buy anything else. I also like to add them to an on line order to help aquire free shipping. I never regret it. Love charm packs!
Me too!
I made all three sizes of this pattern last year. On the layer cake one, I sent it out for quilting and when it came back I wanted it for my queen bed, I had a jelly roll of the fabric Id used and so I made a piano key border. I had just enough backing fabric to add it on. I'd never added to a quilt once it had been quilted before but it was surprisingly simple. Then for the charm size, I had 4 charm packs and I decided to make 4 identical quilts and sewed them all together to make a big one. They all turned out pretty and were fun to make. I would make one again! I like the way you broke down construction. I wished I'd thought of that but I'm glad to learn form your experience!
Did you used 4 same fabric collection charms?
@@elestehorn4290 Yes, I did because I had 4 but you could use 4 different ones and make it really scrappy. But since I made mine identical (if I remember correctly) there were lots of leftovers.
how do you calculate the piano key border? I'm a newbie and would like to try this. Any help anyone can give is greatly appreciated.
Where did you get three sizes of this block, or did you just decrease the sizes of the half square triangles?
@@nancybubenik7498 If you use the 2.5", 5" or 10" the instructions are the same but results in 3 different sizes. The pattern is free on the Moda website.
The sectioned approach to construction is a great tip, and so is the layout pieces! I've wanted to make this pattern but got overwhelmed by the long rows--- you've made it look much easier. These series are wonderful.
I love all three of these!! Great instructions, and I really like it that the music is very quiet while you are sewing and allows to hear you when you talk. That is really appreciated as the music can be distracting and annoying!
Thank you the ideas with the charm pack. I like the idea of coloring the help sheet and then cutting it apart in the sections needed. Great organizing technique.
I love how you used the printed pattern sheet to color in and organize tour blocks. Makes it so much easier to understand.
I also love charm packs!!! Plus, with today's economy, one or two of them is often all I can afford to get a fabric collection that I love.
I absolutely love charm packs for fabric previewing! It has saved me sooo much money because I buy most of my fabric online and it’s so hard to tell if I’m going to really love a fabric line in real life.
I almost bought a whole fat quarter bundle last week but decided to get the charm pack instead and ended up not liking the fabric as much as I thought I would. Yay for this series! I was just trying to figure out what I should do with all these charm packs I’m accumulating 😄 Ps- this is also my favorite charm pack pattern. With some borders it makes a perfect baby floor quilt!
I’m making a Christmas quilt using 5 inch charm packs. I need (4) charm squares for each block with sashing in between. Using the charms I don’t have to cut squares and I’m getting of variety of the fabric line. Love this video today, well done!
Your video was very well made with a very organized fashion. You also have a clear ,well enunciated voice!
I agree, excellent video! I like charms, mini charms, layer cakes, and jelly rolls.
Oh my gosh I love this! Amazing job as always ❤ I’m so happy to hear you’re a collector of charm packs too😂 now I need to go look through mine ❤
Excited for this series! I look forward to your 2 1/2 inch strip projects every month, so it’s great to have another series.
I loved the last one with the piano key border! I liked the way you did the border as well. Will have to try that method. Thanks for sharing!
Love your quilt videos! You seem to be so organized and efficient!
I love all your different quilts a great idea for those charm squares we collect as you have said just because they are pretty🫣I love your backing fabrics especially the blue and pink stripe one 🦋
I loved your 2.5” strip series and now I have your charm squares series to look forward to. Thank you so much.
This is going to be a great series! Thank you so much 😊
I also have collected lots of charm packs! I enjoy your videos very much. Thanks for this new series.
I LOVE charm packs. I make scrappy quilts, so I get a lot of bang for my buck from them.
I like your method of piecing, the quilts are so cheerful!
You're videos are the best!😊
Thank you so much 😀
You’re not the only one in danger of stuff getting totally out of control, either! 😊
I like the scrappy one the best. Great video.🎉
All three are absolutely gorgeous, but I think the scrappy, colorful one with the piano key border is my favorite!
And, I have been wracking my brain for a simple but beautiful pattern to make my best friend's new preemie baby. Im inspired, and now to go dig through my charm packs!
I ❤ God, coffee, cats, moose, trees, outdoors, funny grumpy old women, French blue and white patterns, all things Christmas and so so much more
❤
I have a lot of charm packs so this is great!
Cute quilts. Great use of 5 inch squares and piano key borders
You are amazing. Just love your colour sample put with sewing blocks. Excellent. Love charm packs as well. Beautiful video
Thank you so much!
Loved the quilts and the scrappy piano border 🤩
Great video…I love all the ways you finished these quilts!❤
Good Morning from Washington State. I finished cutting and sewing the hst yesterday. I put everything up on my project wall & boy did it pop!! I moved a couple of blocks around and then my husband came in and moved a couple more. I will start sewing it together later this afternoon. I am thinking of making a second one and turning it into a lap quilt using jelly roll strips between the squares. 😊
I loved the way you colored and cut your plan into pieces. Made much less confusing.
I love charm packs also.
Your quilts were so cheerful. Thanks for the hint to make quadrants rather than rows.
I love your tutorials, you explain so clearly. Thank you 😊
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you. I learned that you can iron after spraying “505” and loved the tip to pin the corners after sandwiching … great tips.. looking forward to next month.
The piano keys made a stunning quilt!
I ❤️ charm packs abd I ❤ how you suggested these get put together, too. That tip pinning the colored section with their respective pieces made it simple to build and stay organized! I also ❤ your simple cutting directions. Excellent tutorial! ❤🎉😅😊
This would be a great center for a medallion quilt.
I made one similar for my dad. I divided the pattern into quarters. I worked great. I like yours as the pattern I was using was made as a layer cake pattern. It was fast but huge. Putting them in smaller sections like you had might have made it easier. Wish I'd seen yours earlier
I love the scrappy one with Minky back.❤❤❤❤❤ Thanks for sharing
These were very beautiful!! Thank you for the great instructions!!
They all are gorgeous!I love watching you working on them. Thank you for sharing.
I’m so happy you’re doing videos for charming packs….I have a ton!
I just found your channel & subscribed because of the series you are doing. I love that you explain things so simply and clearly using the charm packs and our scraps. This will be a game changer for me. Thank you so much. Love your channel. ❤
So many good ideas! I will be cutting up scraps to make some piano key borders.
After watching this I immediately downloaded the pattern & made one of my most favorite baby quilts - all from my stash! Thank you!
This is fabulous! The colouring sheet is a game changer for me !
😊loved the ideas! I have a lot of charm packs and now I know how to use them! Thanks!
Thanks for sharing. I love the color page idea.
Yay another series thankyou so much from Australia
I like the charm packs, layer cakes etc. because I’m not very good at getting colors that look well together. The packs are very helpful in that way.
Loved watching you cut! Now I need a new Creative Grids ruler!
My mom, my sister and I made this pattern. I did the mini with mini charms and taught my mom with the charm pack size. All three of us chose our own color way and we’ll all have a version of this pattern in our home 😊
Ich liebe wie gut sie die Arbeit erklären auch die Filme sind sehr gut vielen Dank freue mich schon auf die neue Serie herzlichen Dank liebe Grüße aus Germany from Sabine
I like charm squares and sometimes I buy four of them to make a bigger quilt. I just sew them all together. It is sew much fun. I like your pretty quilt. 🧵🌸
I loved the piano key additions to the quilt top!!
Whenever I get done with a project or pick up different sized scraps at the thrift store, I try to cut my fabric up into my pre-cuts that I call Two by Fours (as in the lumber) I cut 2.5" squares, 4.5" squares and 4.5" x 2.5" rectangles. I can make so many blocks out of those sizes from 8.5" blocks to 16" blocks and more. It was actually when making a quilt for my niece's wedding that I realized how useful pieces in these sizes are and never stopped. Depending how my fabric has been previously cut, I also end up with with other size squares and pieces. I rarely buy charm packs. I have gotten some from Amazon as I am a Vine Reviewer and have been offered some of their packs to review. Doing my precuts is one of my favorite quilting activities.
I liked your first quilt that you last as the colore were so lively, and I love scrap quilts. Why use 25 fabics when you can use 100+?!?
I'm looking forward to more charm pack quilts. I have a tote full of them!! Thanks for sharing.
You are so welcome!
I have over 300 packs of Charms…many of with I have 4 sets.
My favorites are florals.
I’m going to love this series 😊
I will definitely be following your series using charms. Besides buying charm packs, I cut lots of my leftover fabrics into 5" squares as I cut-to-store those leftovers. I'm looking forward to seeing all of your ideas. Thanks!!
I belong to a charm pack subscription. I have lots of charm packs and I love every one of them. That's why I am so excited about your new series. So far it's great.
Beautiful 🤗🤗🤗
Very bright and happy looking quilt
Beautiful work and great video presentation. Great job!
Oh, I love the last one, with piano key border. So pretty. The colours are gorgeous. I also love charm packs but am yet to open one. It's so wrong. TFS
I have bought only one Charm pack (and it was by Moda). I needed a kit in a hurry. That charm pack made it much easier to get the whole kit ready in one evening, for a class I was taking. The quilt was very pretty when I finished it. Everything matched very well. Your quilts are beautiful.
Love ALL your videos. You are so great to listen to as well. There are several of your 2 1/2 inch quilt patterns I hope to do. Thank you for all you do. keep them coming.
Will be adding this to my "charm pack" Pinterest board! I love charm packs for their fun variety of a collection. So many different things that can be made.
Loved all three that you made but the one with the piano key borders made my day....so pretty - loved all the bright fabric. Thank you for sharing.
Great video! I am looking forward to all your charm pack ideas. I not only have a nice little collection of charm packets but make a lot of quilts for children and have many hundreds of 5” charms cut from leftovers that I really need to start using. My designated storage boxes for 5” squares are pretty full, so time to sew!
It’s genius to do the coloring sheet and cutting it apart for each section! I have never seen that before! Thank you so much!
I love how you plan your quilts and make scrappy look so beautiful!! I have colored the pages but never thought to color 2 and cut one into sections for sewing instructions! Learn so much every time and watch your videos. And your voice is pleasing to the ear and you don’t ramble! Sometimes with other videos I’m like will you get to the point already 😂. Love charm packs as well. Finished up 2 quilts this weekend using pre cuts!
Thank you so much!
This is a gorgeous quilt!
I love your style of sewing… very close to the way I sew…
I’ve never bought pre cut fabrics… I like to cut my own pieces as it saves having to “square“ and my points all match…I like to make a lot of HST from different fabrics and save in small containers and I can always layout a quick quilt top and sew-in-a-day…
I do want to try your piano border! It is stunning!!❤
Thank you! I love this. I’ve been looking for a pattern for my 4 1930’s charm packs. This will be perfect!
Why do you have the small denim piece .
Charm packs are very nice to use, my personal favourite was Cranberries and Cream by 3 Sisters. Thanks for sharing yours loved them all. 👍❤️🙂
Great video! I’ve been quilting for over 25 years and I learned several new things today.
love it ,thank you.
Oh yay I'm so glad we're exploring nickel squares next. How fun!
I love your series just like the 2 1/2 one, your block of the month, your state block which I am doing presently I am on my 27 th block. You are an inspiration. Where I am from I only have access on yardage fabric, you give tips on doing it different. Thank you. God bless.
Wonderful!
AWESOME!!!!! I like the first one you made best with the piano key boarder. That was too cute! Can't wait for more to come in the series!!!!!
Thanks so much!!
Your straight line quilting looks simple, as you seem to be following the seams in the quilt blocks.
I love the way you organized with coloured templates.
This is such a brilliant idea! 🎉
I’m a total sucker for a charm pack on sale. I can’t resist!
I have made this quilt....fun! LOVE your scrappy version with the piano key borders!!
Love the colors❣️
I love charm packs
I love charm packs. I have made this pattern and love it too. Think I need to make it again and add a piano key border.
Loved it !!!
Thank you so much for your help with these projects 🤗!
Love this pattern -- great for layer cakes, too!
Your instructions are excellent! Thank you for sharing.
I just put my fabric on my printer and print a page and cut the sizes I need to get the layout of the quilt.
I like printing the fabric better than trying to color in the sizes.
Nice job love your videos always interesting thanks
Hi I'm new to quilting and I'm gonna buy the square fabric I love the ones you use 😊
I need this this!
I’m very happy about this series! Somehow I have way more precuts than I could ever use in my lifetime! And this moda pattern has been on my want-to-do list since i first discovered it. But I got put off by the written instructions being confusing. Your tutorial makes sense to me. Thank you for that!
You can do it!
beautiful quilt----thank you for sharing
Pretty binding fabric!
I love charm packs, but I use jelly rolls more, so I'm always looking for ideas to use charm packs.
