My family had a slum lord once, the heat didn't always worked which was pretty bad when winter rolled around. One time he brought 3 space heaters rather then get the stuff in the basement fixed and those space heaters tripped the power in the house. Long story short he filled for bankruptcy and we didn't get our deposit back. But on the bright side the people who bought the house let us continue to rent there and are by far the most amazing land lords of all time.

3 years ago on a cold -35°F New Year's Day our complex of 5 buildings and 120 Apts had the fire extinguisher sprinklers malfunction and dump 6" of water in every room...
I think they finally finished replacing everything the water damaged last fall
The new owners of the house are responsible for paying you your security deposit. You need to look up and start reading your local housing law.
@@DavidDavidson69 At this point they have more then made up what that deposit would have been. They last year one of the ceilings of a room in the house had mold and had to be taken out and replaced. Also they replaced the back steps of the house and replaced several windows with far better ones. They are truly amazing people.

Are you kidding? I lived in a shitty trailer for like 5 years, went through about 7-8 roommates and even a few couch surfers, and pretty much everyone involved remembers the place semi-affectionately as "Trailerheim"
lol there's a busted window from when the previous tenant got evicted by the police via tear gas canister, a hole in the ceiling courtesy of a .45 one of my asshole friends thought was a co2 airsoft gun, a circuit breaker that tripped everytime someone tried to run the microwave and air conditioner at the same time, so many stories from that shit hole 🥲
Why live in such terrible conditions? Cause lot rent was $155 a month and the piece of crap parked on it was paid off

@@Poison2859 Happened to me recently, tenant didn't pay rent for 2 months gave him a break since he lost his job then his sister pays for another place lease and he leaves without me ever seeing a dollar, It's tough being a landlord, people that rent and never own property ever don't get it.

I had a shitty landlord. He didn't want to make any repairs & when he did want to do it. He might as well have used Scotch tape & Elmer's school glue. One day I saw the fountain wall slowly caving in & I said screw & left & I never saw or heard from his ass again.
On top of that it was a duplex & the idiot of a neighbor thought the world revolved around her & would park in my spot constantly. Along with yelling so loud that you can hear her two towns over. I was glad to get out of that shit hole.

I have! Fortunately growing up my parents were once "property managers", the people land lords hire to be the bad guys. So I went into renting knowing my rights. One property stands out. Power went out in half the house... Called the slum lord numerous times. After about 3 days (he lives in the town), he came over, and ran a double ended male cord from one side of the house to the other and said he would have an electrician out the next day. 2 weeks passed and no electrician. Now if you don't know what a double ended male cable is, google. I withheld rent for about 3-4 months before we used the saved up money to get a way better rental. Our slum lord was also a predator so there is that. Dude prefers to rent to single moms and when they cant make rent he suggests "taking care of uncle chucky".

Until you run into a landlord that is willing to hire someone like me. I had a "side hustle" going for a few years after I got out of the Army where me and a few buddies would hire ourselves out to landlords that were having problems with tenants. We'd show up at their work (landlord would give us their employer info) and take them outside for a little chat. The problem was usually solved after that chat without having to escalate things further. Funny how people who claim to be broke and can't pay their rent are suddenly able to come up with the money after being visited by me and my buddies.
Always discouraged them from going to the police too by telling them that they can go ahead and call the cops, but that I'd get to them before the cops got to me.
Ha! Totally get it! I had one that locked up the thermostat and I couldn’t put it higher than 63 in -temperature winters.
Also had to call the cops on her a couple times…..
