@@resolutogamer4859 Having a political message and being "brainwashing" are very different things. Spec Ops is among the greatest narrative games of its time, yet it has a very clear and powerful political message. The Fallout series is riddled with political messaging. Both of them are pretty obviously left-leaning and no one is complaining. Don't confuse garbage writing and cynical pandering with truly politically engaged media.
I hated the character designs in Concord man, there wasn’t a single person that interested me. All you have to do is compare Overwatch to it and you’ll see the problem. Concord has a fat guy character named Dew. When Overwatch made Roadhog, they went all out with making his weight a strange and fun part of him, giving him a pig theme and a big rusty hook, and made one of his abilities guzzling a jug. When Concord made Dew, they made him fat and gave him a gun. That’s all they did. Theres nothing fun about the way he looks, they just made him fat because I assume they wanted to promote body positivity. And you realize when looking at more and more Concord characters that there was no artistic expression or creativity used in designing any of them, they’re almost all there to fill some sort of quota instead. Character designs cannot be interesting or exaggerated in a game where they’re focused on making sure people feel represented first and foremost. It leads to the most bland roster of average people who all dress and act marginally the same.
I once found a video on RUclips from a professional artist or character designer and what they did with the characters in this game just screams that people don't understand simple things like tone and contrast. In a sense it’s okay, if the characters were boring, but they were made by amateurs with a bunch of rookie mistakes. It's amazing for that kind of money.
@devcrom3 It can only be amusing to bear witness to a group of people walking around with their heads lodged firmly up their own posteriors if your head isn't equally preoccupied.
Unfortunately, the culture in these places is such that they actively don't want the "wrong sorts of people" liking their games/shows. They'd rather keep losing money than lose face by being that guy who makes games that some Trump supporters say nice things about. They cannot bring themselves to do anything else, so expect more of the same to come. It will require a whole new industry, built from the ground up, to solve this problem. We are not there yet.
Let this be a lesson to Sony. Black Myth sold 10 million copies. Concord is shutting down after 2 weeks. Single player games are what Sony needs to focus on.
Not really, the lesson is not to develop shit games that no one asked for. You can see Valorant, Deadlock, etc. There's always space for GOOD games but if you just throw money to any generic idea with no soul, you are bound to fail from inception.
Honestly the atrocious character designs killed any potential interest I had. Overwatch is sitting here with Disney-tier, iconic character designs and they're like "let's make some boring looking normie people and put some shoulder pads on them"
People underestimate good character design. Capcom did a ton of shit in the 2010s but their character designs are so good that somehow they still had fans.

True, but this will also be their only way to salvage any sort of reputation they have. If they decided to just say so long and thanks for the fish, it would alienate even more of their audience than them running their mouth on X
Conservative gamers hate it because it panders to progressives, and progressive gamers also hate it because it panders to progressives; They should just stop trying to pander to me and focus on making the game stand on its own merits instead of prattling off about 'Diversity', 'Inclusivity', or 'Representation' if they're not going to go the extra mile to make those statements come off as anything more than platitudes.

The "concord" game went the same way as the jet plane The dev statement reads as if the game has been online for over a decade with a long standing, loyal and humongous fanbase. The game has only been out for....what....like a few days?
Let this be a message to big publishers: We do not want corporate slop anymore. We can identify it, and if you give it to us again it will fail just as surely if not as spectacularly. The jig is up. Publish more games with actual heart behind them or don't publish anything at all.
Honestly, if they reuse the engine to create a campaign or something PvE related, that might incentive players to pick it up, they could at least make some of their money back instead of it being an absolute failure, who knows how long it would take but that’s the best move they could probably make if they want to keep the Concord name alive
I watched a video recently (I'm 80% sure it was a Luke Stephen's video) and bro said "concord probably has a year of being online before it's shut down" so it's funny hearing that and immediately hearing "never mind it's goin down next week"
It's not okay. It's more than okay. It's an amazing piece of news for gaming. Maybe now Sony will pull their fingers out of their asses, and start pumping this kind of money into good gaming projects, like, I don't know, an official Bloodborne remaster, maybe? Here's hoping.
Yeah that PSN lockdown really is hurting development. I'm surprised that developers even make games for Sony with how limited the market is in their ecosystem.
Sony needs to realise that quality single player games is what made them get to the top. Not love service games. They should just stick to that we all will be happy.
Watching this game fail was like watching a slow-moving train inch towards a nitro glycerine plant. Everyone got bored and left before even watching the explosion.
No matter how bad the lead developer is, I’m sure there were some normal developers who put their sweat and long hours into this game. I kinda feel bad for them having to tell their families and friends that the big new game they were working on vanished into thin air.
@@Kromattdevs don’t decide how to make a game, blame the designers and studio heads who designed the house, not the workers who laid the bricks where told to
To make a successful game that will last for generations, all you have to do is make a good game. Portal, Team Fortress, and Half Life are great examples. This should be common sense, but instead companies exploit us.
tbf, it's not enough to be good, you need to find an issue and improve it, it's how the biggest battle royales stuck around. Apex Legends improved inventory from Fornite, Warzone (also had cod base) improved UI and world interaction. I think some studios with insane budgets forget about the small things and go ambitous too soon because of said increased funding. Spider-Man 2 spent a good chunk of dev time an MMO concept, they were also working on destructible enviroments which were scrapped. Imagine if they decreased the scope and improved on the foundations, destruction would've been dope.
Warcraft III and AOE 2 still stand the test of time as some of the best RTS games ever, and have not been dethroned. Make a good game that's creative publishers. Stop throwing cash to make money. Make a good game, and you WILL make money.
I don’t think they’ll re-release this ever. The tweet just sounds like positive manager speak when in reality everyone is about to lose their job. The best they could do is salvage the assets of this game to make a different kind of game.
I mean, looking at the bright side, they did sell 25,000 copies. For simplicity, let's just assume that's 100% profit, so that's a cool million dollars! And if you compare that against the development costs, which are... **checks notes** ...oh. OHHH. Okay. Yeah. I wonder what those conversations were like when they realized just how much of a disaster this was turning out to be. But, hey: at least that's a really nice tax write-off!
@@VlasimoEstacimo The whole thing like the video said, is just mind boggling like it's so retarted that we have to try and rationalise it with things like money laundering, which I actually hope it is. @@resolutogamer4859 Having a political message and being "brainwashing" are very different things. Spec Ops is among the greatest narrative games of its time, yet it has a very clear and powerful political message. The Fallout series is riddled with political messaging.
I don't think Sony actually understands what the real "modern audience" is
I once found a video on RUclips from a professional artist or character designer and what they did with the characters in this game just screams that people don't understand simple things like tone and contrast. In a sense it’s okay, if the characters were boring, but they were made by amateurs with a bunch of rookie mistakes. It's amazing for that kind of money.

I think they’re refunding players because the game is getting shut down so soon after lunch, it didn’t sell very many copies so the total amount of money they have to give back isn’t that high relatively speaking, and having to worry about legal implications of shutting something down so soon after lounging it in so many different countries just makes it more financially reasonable to refund everyone. 8:12

Good point, Half Life or Portal only have 2 games, but have a legacy. People are still willing waiting on the third games from these franchises.
Just look at how many people still play Skyrim.
Warcraft III and AOE 2 still stand the test of time as some of the best RTS games ever, and have not been dethroned. Make a good game that's creative publishers. Stop throwing cash to make money. Make a good game, and you WILL make money.
