- The New ViparSpectra KS5000 is a 500-watt LED bar grow light. It features top end components with Samsung LM301h and Osram 660nm diodes. It is the first LED Bar fixture from ViparSpectra, but they learned from the competition and designed a light with some real advantages. It has better diodes and it is a little more powerful, more efficient, and bigger than competitive fixtures for 4’ x 4’ coverage.
I run The ViparSpectra KS5000 through 4 PAR and ePAR tests. It produced some great maps with impressive numbers. I dive in and analyze the details.
The ViparSpectra KS5000 is now available on Amazon and the ViparSpectra website. Our discount code is good in both places. For the ViparSpectra KS series, use discount code: DrMJCocoKS

Excited for tonight!
Just used your discount on Amazon, thank you!!!
This videos are great for determining which fixture to purchase. I appreciate it.
You're providing an incredible service for the home grower. Thank you from my family to yours. bless.
Very helpful review. I've been looking at getting this for my next cycle
About time I got xs1500 and love it
Probably won't be able to catch this vid because of work.... but I appreciate your videos my bro . Another thing I live in Guam so that I'm sure rules me out. But keep upbthe great work my friend and may God smile on all your life endeavors. 💯💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 content my dude!
Great review! Great light! 🙌💚
So amazing!! I can't wait to get one!!
I LOVE my KS5000! Have come up with some massive harvest's with it.
Viparspectra puts out some really good equipment. Great videos I bought my medicgrow fold8 because of your videos
Is this the light with built in timer and digital wattage meter built in?
Thanks for the solid info....decided to order a KS5000 yesterday based on the info in this video. I will be replacing 2 Viparspectra P2500 and a Unit Farm UFL3000 in a 4x4 tent. This set up does quite well but at 700 watts. Summers are hot where I am so the 500w fixture will be a welcome addition. I was also considering a Mars FC-E4800 or a Kingbrite array. Decided to go with the KS based off of this video as well as the performance of my 2 Vip P2500's! Thanks again!
Wow! This is one bad boy of a light!👏👏👏👏👏👏
just ordered 4 of these for an 8x8, can't wait
How are they going I wanna buy one but hearing mixed comments. ?
Seen a couple vids on this. Looks like a fantastic light from what ive seen
Looks awesome
Just won this light from viparspectra super excited to get it up after this harvest 👍👍again thanks Dr MJ coco for always such amazing helpful videos it's so nice to be able to set my light and forget 👍👍growers luv 🤙🤙💨💨
Gday mate how are you finding it? Any feedback appreciated
That light is killer
love this channel!
Amazing review - thank you
Very good info sir
Thank you so much just ordered one on Amazon with your discount code

36 for the WIN!
Hi and thanks for providing great information. I was keen on the migro aray 4x4 but due to cost difference in australia, i think ill get the ks5000 with its simplicity and local warranty for 200aud cheaper...
Thanks for the chance! 😁🙌🌱🔥💨💨💨💨
THANKS such a HONEST easy to follow REVIEW 🌱💚✌🏼🤩🇬🇧🇺🇲🕊️

Hello from San Diego!!!
Thank you for the opportunity to win
This is my first light in a newbie I hope I made a good choice
Nice 👊🏽
Hope this one is good. I like VS pretty well.
Great video! Do you have nay plans on reviewing the New Mammoth LED 800W Fold (future proof)? I currently run my flower rooms with their 800w 10bar commercial series and LOVE it! Would like to see what differences the newer one brings in comparison.
Just subbed after grand master levels video apologized and said to give you a follow.✌🏻
If love to run this light! 🤘🏻🥰
Almost time
I got the yuanhui 400w 6 bar 1596 samsung 301b for $220 on amazon. Rather have 2 of them than this. I love the led layout but shud b cheaper or did a 44x44 with 2000+ diodes to hit 750+ in corners.
You should do a updated video on the new Ks5000 and explain to everyone. How & why the light only dims when turn off through a timer or controller. I bought this light because of your review video. So I feel you need to do this justice..
Cheers
Can you do a video comparison between your apogee quantum sensor and the Photobio advanced par meter? I could only afford the Photobio right now and I’m wondering how accurate it is.
Another great video but wonder if it would be better to just use 2 of the XS2000 fixtures and leave gap in middle. Any thoughts?
What did you discover?
Nice vid thanks. It's priced @700$ plus tax and with your code it drops to $739.25 from $760.25. not what I was expecting and I wish it was a bit more red
Yeah, they will add a $100 coupon to bring the price back to $599 and the code will stack on that. I was surprised when I saw the list price show up today, but I already heard back from them about it. Grower Love
Might as well get the MedicGrow smart 8 they don't charge tax. It's under 600 bucks and more powerful
HOLY the price in this thing has dropped you can get these for about $400 now
Just paid 370
Did Mr. Dr. Coco say best in class?! Hell yea viparspectra!
Would the KS500 be a better light for a 4x4 tent than the HLG BlackBird
What's your opinion on adding additional far red beyond the normal red diodes most LED bar lights include? And your opinion on UV lighting? I only find data on terpene production and nothing on THC content. Need some solid advice before i add to the grow and make some videos on it.
Hi, i know you'd prefer an answer by Coco but i'll try to answer what i've learned so far.
- IR or Far-Red to be more precise: causes stretching in plants, boosts flowering speed and bud production, heats the leaf surface, helps with plants sleeping and waking up (Emerson effect), penetrates deep into canopy, makes the lower branches catch up with higher branches to create a more even canopy, and high amounts of IR can also help with SOME pests if they can't stand the heat, but you'd only get that with the Sun's high IR that goes up to 1000nm, you won't get that with 730nm in LED.
High amounts of IR can also make the buds a bit fluffier, which isn't a bad thing if you have high humidity, with more airflow in the buds there is less chance for budrot.
- UVA produces more terpenes, flavor and aroma. UVB produces more THC. You need both UVA & UVB together for the best results. Roughly about 15% UVB and 75% UVA but this can vary. For the best results, the UVB wavelength needs to be between 280-290nm because this triggers a certain protein in plants for more THC, and this protein also acts as a defense mechanism against pests, and also acts as a sunscreen so the plant produces more oils to protect itself. Not to say that 310-315nm UVB won't get results, but 280-290nm triggers this specific protein (i think it's called UVR8 or something like that)
Also UVB helps to prevent mold and mildew. It will NOT kill an ongoing mold infestation, but it will help prevent it. Although this is debatable because some people say that mold has a defense mechanism against UV that is activated during the day, and deactivates during the night. People say you need to run UV during night cycle to prevent mold. However, mold doesn't grow in the Sun, and the Sun kills the mold even during the day, so personally i don't think it's only helpful during night cycle, i think it's helpful all the time. Don't go below 280nm, that is UVC and it will burn the plants, that is used for sterilization.
The best way to use UV is in the middle of the light cycle, let's say you run 12/12 during flowering, you should use UV around the 6 hour-mark of normal light to simulate the Noon or highest peak of the Sun. If you have autoflowers on 18/6 this would be around 9 hour-mark.
Start with 15-mins a day, then increase by 15 mins every few days until you see a little bit of burn damage, then decrease the amount of time. The closer the UV, the shorter the time needed, the further away the longer time is needed.
UV is best used at the end of the flowering, in the last 2 weeks. The reason is that UV slows down the growth. It acts as a mini-stress for the plant so they spend some energy into recovering from UV. This recovering process from UV stress is what creates more THC and terpenes. But you can use it all the time if you want, outdoors they always get UV.
Since UV falls into the blue side of the spectrum, it also makes the plant more compact, and if used for the whole grow period it can make the buds a bit smaller but denser. But with IR this effect is balanced and countered.
@@twentytwo138 Great info and since i posted this i found a lot of what you have mentioned, mostly through Bruce Bugbee and the effects of red/blue light on plants. As well as the penetration of red and also green photons. However some of what you stated on UV lighting i did not find and i would be interested to learn more and the source of this information. I did find UV and its ability to help prevent mold or even pathogens (seemed very slight). I also found research on how the plant produces secondary cannabinoids to use as a sunblock. There was a single study about THC content increase but it was done on hemp and this was on i believe the leaf of the plant and was a an insignificant change. Bruce Bugbee also covered this study and mentions it has not been replicated in the lab to show an increase in UV. So if you have further data i am all ears and would love to look into it. At this time UV is a no go for me and if far red is added i believe most company's are adding 730 /760 then i don't see it as a great add to value considering the price increase they seem to come with. But i have no experience with them myself. So this is all based on research ive done.
I really like this light but I really don't like the click knob for intensity of light, I would rather have a smooth dial for the knob. Plus I already bought four viparspectra lights in the P series not to long ago, so I'll wait a couple years to maybe buy this one.
So what light would you recommend the KS5000 or SE5000 grow light?
Would you get this light or the smart 8 by medic grow?
Good luck everybody
Hey I noticed a typo on your website, you said "Mars Hydro has come a long was in a short time" you should donate one of your lights 😉
Ya donate to me
Oh que jaimerais en avoir une comme ca
Looks like a case of “Buy once, cry once."
Good luck everybody🎉
When's the give away I'd love to see this
After seeing the feeding schedule I’m a bit confused. Where is week 8.? I see 7-9 10-11 at bottom. I don’t understand.
What power setting were you using this on tho? 100%?
could you test this 1000w luminaire
Algorithms go wrong in other cases. What are some of the variables of the algorithm?can you explain
My next
Would you recommend this over the mars hydro e6500
100% yes.
Nice Light, but unknown Driver, have to compare Efficiency with other Brands Like MW, cause that is the most important Part aside the diodes. Seems like a good addition to the Lighting Games.
The FC 8000 and FC-E8000 which I have tested in the last few months both also have Sosen drivers. I have tested several fixtures with Sosen drivers and they perform well. Grower Love
@@DrMJCoco Ok did not know the Brand, have to look up the efficiency of those Drivers, maybe they are good. Thanks for the Clear up. Only got Meanwell Drivers with my Mars Hydro and Spider Farmer Lights, maybe they changed that.
@@Diranar851 Those sosen drivers are okay, not great. Nowhere near as good as even an entry level Meanwell.
@@dropinbiking92 Sosen is 99.5% as good as Meanwell, without the bloated price tag. Our circuit assembly division just swapped from Meanwell to Sosen drivers because the Sosen track record was better. FYI
@@coryswinerton3296 I do know my sosen is less efficient and runs hotter than my meanwell driver on my other light that's forsure. Just doing my own power draw tests and feeling the drivers by hand
Thank you. Imma go buy it. Lol
Love to see 4x xs1500 run against this. The price that you can pick xs1500 on sale is ridiculous. I feel like 4x xs1500 is hard to beat. ViparSpectra continues to impress me.
I would agree it would just come in hotter temps.
I agree absolutely however your temps might increase ten fold
400 euro on amazon for a 150w panel, that's not cheap, bro.
Don't know what they sell for in the states, but there are cheaper options around here.
I payed 250 euro for a full spectrum 220w panel that would murder a 2x2.
@@michael2305 $86 with promo codes for the xs1500 now days. Considering my first light ever so I can grow for my wife. She is disabled and quit her pain clinic opioids two weeks ago. Marijuana has brought a glow back to her that I haven't seen in years. I hope I chose a good setup that'll last year's. Highly considered this light or the new progrow 1800.. but I can't find their spectrum, some say it's not the best although higher watts and more par
@michael2305 I highly suggest trying to look elsewhere before resulting in amazon. Most of its resellers or dropshippers with upmarked prices. You can save a solid 10% off most purchases and some even more
Anyone an idea when this is going to come to europe??
💚💚💚#1luv4dabud 👍
So I’ve been running my light 28” above the canopy. These tests are telling me I’m about 14” too high
How do we enter contest?
Is this all at 100% brightness? Following Viparspectra’s 28” at 75% brightness, my plants are cowering away from the light
Then go down to 75% and check your PAR reading. As long as you're in the range of 450-600 during veg, you're good to go.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
How good is this in a 5 x 5?
Wouldnt be enough basing it off the mjcoco calculator. U need about 750watt for max potential with photoperiod 🪴
ECO Farm ECOZ Pro 700W/1000W UV+IR LED Samsung 301H Grow Light Strips
I don’t understand 301h Samsung diodes and no meanwell driver this is where they cut costs 4 stars ⭐️ instead of 5 ⭐️ almost a perfect light.
IMHO the Sosen Drivers are just as good performance-wise vs Meanwell. I own 3 Sosen driven lights (2 Vip p2500, 1 Maxsisun PB1500) as well as 7 Meanwell driven lights) - I've found that the Sosen definitely run hotter...but...the fact that you can hang this Sosen outside your grow space I don't mind one bit!
Sosen is up there in the top 3 with Meanwell, and equally as efficient and reliable, just less overpriced.
I missed it 😔

Just got the 3000 for a 3x3 I got 2 3x3 the 1 has a bloom plus 3000 in it and it crushes and I wanted to try a bar style so I went with this KS 3000 I love that a company finally was like why is everyone making 3x3 lights the size of 24x24 when it should be 36x36 at least this company went with hey we're going to make it 32x32 that way there's even coverage in only four inches 2 in on each side basically of dead coverage but it isn't dead coverage cuz the lights perfect like this is the first company I've seen start making lights that actually fit the tents cuz so many people usually have to put bigger size lights in their smaller size 10 just to get the even coverage and dim it down like you were saying there is advantages to that though in the winter time you can crank it up hotter raise it get that warmth and in the summertime you can drop it down dammit and cut down the heat
I think thats the biggest difference. Alot of lights arent designed specifically for tent sizes. Diode positioning and fixture size play a key role in this to achieve the most even level par possible. Migro also did a great job with their aray series.

i just dont understand why people not only do par readings at 16 inches. Let alone why they wouldnt show 30 - 36 inches like the majority of actual growers will use.
I test lights at the height that produces a maximum PPFD of 1000 umol/m2, which is the level that is safe for plant and which most lights are designed to hit. In a grow tent, hanging heights of 12-24" above the canopy are common. Most growers prefer lights that can be hung closer because they run out of vertical room in their tents. At higher heights you get a better distribution, but lower overall amount of light because of reflective and overspill losses. It is fine to run lights higher while plants are growing and then dial them in once the settle down during the flowering period. Grower Love
