  • The New Mars Hydro FC-E4800 may be the perfect 4’ x 4’ grow light. I appreciate the high diode count, the adjustable bars, the way the diodes are distributed along the bars, and the simple elegance of the build. It is an innovative high-quality fixture, and micromole per micromole, it costs about 50% less than most competitors. In this video, I run the Mars Hydro FC-E4800 through 3 different PAR tests in 2 different Bar positions. It creates a great PAR map and has excellent efficiency.

Also the amount of heat these put out is crazy, at least without comparing to other lights. can we get more infoon things that also effect our grows. Thanks again, grower love!

    Hey Mr. Coco I have kind of an important question regarding these lights versus the FC E6500. Apparently these smaller E-Series lights include IR and one other Spectrum that the FC-E6500 does not. I have two separate 10 x 10 grow spaces and I'm trying to decide between 8 of the FC E6500s or 12 of the FC E4800s. I'm also trying to fit nine rather large plants in each 10x10 grow space. Any suggestions? Thanks!
    PS. I'm curious to know if the loss of IR and the 380-410nm Spectrum is a major deal or not.

    • @DrMJCoco
      @DrMJCoco  3 года назад +2

      I would not worry about the IR and the UV. I would probably go with the 6500s and if you want to add supplemental IR or UV you can do that with separate fixtures. I think the main thing you want from a grow light is PAR Flux! Grower Love

I already have 10 of the fce 6500 here I'm going to use two of them for the veg room and I was going to use 8 for flower but with the lack of ir I was thinking maybe I could put two in the middle on each side and then surround them by 4 fce 4800s for a total of 12 lights 6 on each side. I haven't looked into any IR ruv supplementation not sure if that's expensive or if it's a large power draw in anyway or not.

    Question: why does it seem like using light rails a thing of the past? All the YT videos using rails is 3-5 years old and use HPS. Seems to me a bar type LED on rails could maximize a larger space with better yields at lower cost per watt and could also be placed closer to the canopy.

    • @Smotpoker
      @Smotpoker 3 года назад

      Most people used them before to have less heat and maximize the space using hid. In today's led market there is such good distribution with minimal height and low wattage =low heat. It makes it pretty impractical....esp when you lose more height,+the extra costs and task that go along with them. This is a great question and hopefully the doc will come by and chime in too. I do however know a cocoforcannabis.com member named Choo who uses a chilled x600 on a mover , pushing 1200umols ..with fantastic results..note* his ceiling is like 15ft lol... grower love n great comment!

    480 watts is the minimum to call 4x4 "fully lit," so good for Mars bringing the E line in this class. But have you seen what Dr Coco did with 2x SP3KS in a 4x4? At $10/g, just the difference in yield pays off the SPs and then some every harvest.🤷‍♂️

    • @Smotpoker
      @Smotpoker 3 года назад +4

      I would definitely disagree with 480 watts being a "watt minimum " for two reasons, 1- watts isn't a measurement of the amount of light in the tent, the important thing is how efficiently a light can turn electricity into par photons.. I grow autos in a 4x4 using a 330watt fluence spydr 2x / and a chilled Growcraft Ultra x3 prototype type #1 (also 330 watts check out dr coco review). And we're getting 2lbs from 4 plants grow after grow. Please check out my RUclips or ig or my journals at cocoforcannabis.com I always enjoy talking lighting!

    • @Smotpoker

      1 -330 watt light per tent...I guess my last paragraph could be misinterpreted as both lights in 1.

    This one is underrated, I believe once you start the flowering stage, or even veg, the 730-740nm far red is what will make the difference with yield. If you watch the research done by Professor Bruce Bugbee on far red, all the plants ended up with higher yield. Factoring in CO2 and proper nutrition, the harvest potential should be on par with the FC-E6500 (I don’t think the E6500 has 730-740nm lights).

    • @WestCoastCroppers

      Yeah the fce6500 is a veg light. No IR or UV Diodes

    • @WestCoastCroppers
      @WestCoastCroppers 3 года назад

      @@randomstranger2472 I would like to think that you would be wrong. But I am not positive. Though those Ir & uv LED’s are what help make the light full spectrum.
      Perhaps @migro has more info on it.
      I can say that my trichome level on my plants under the led lights I use is greater than under my hps. But not more than my CMH.

    I just bought 12 pc 3000 on your review a few weeks ago . I have another room to fill would you still pick the pc 3000s over several of these ! Seems real hard to beat the 3000 in price and coverage is why I chose them . ( after watching your video of light distribution with them !

    • @Smotpoker
      @Smotpoker 3 года назад

      At cocoforcannabis.com we have a growlight calculator...depending on your room size (Inc height) there may be a more efficient way to set it up and a better cost per umol, but I also think you cannot go wrong with a room full of sp3000s lol

      Higher range of red light spectrum mainly which is good for yield and slightly higher efficiency I think.

    Hi iv just got myself the fc-e4800. When I was putting it together I noticed the light bars are different. You have 3 A bars and 3 B bars. The difference in the bars is the ir diodes and the infrared diodes are in different places. I contacted mars hydro customer service about how to place these bars and in witch order. I received an email back saying the bars should be placed A,B,A,B,A,B. There is nothing in there user manual stating this. Or on any reviews that I have seen. Please contact marshydro yourself to confirm this information and maybe do an update on your review. Because surely with the difference in diode placement it would have an over all affect on light quality. Just thought I would say something as I feel this information to be important. There must be thousands of lights out there that aren't set up properly and not getting the quality of light the light is capable of.

    Mars Hydro recommends keeping this light at 6 inches from canopy during late flower! What do you think of that?

    • @DrMJCoco
      @DrMJCoco  2 года назад +2

      It is a good question! I actually spoke to them about that. I thought it was nuts. Turns out, those recommendations are meant for grows with supplemental CO2 and a higher PPFD limit. I agree that they should explain that. I have an FC-6500 that I plan to test according to their recommendations and we'll see what PPFD they produce. Grower Love

      You can, but it will not be enough light to get the best production or the best quality in a 5x5 space. I would get the 6500 or 8000 for use in a 5x5, but the 4800 is perfect for 4x4. Grower Love
