  • The Mars Hydro FC-E6500 is the first LED Bar Array with adjustable Bars. It puts out a ton of light and has industry leading efficiency - But what Bar positions create the BEST PAR Map?
First, I tested both of the manufacturer suggested bar positions at two different heights, they are great maps - but I thought we might be able to do better. I offered up the Mars Hydro FC-E6500 that I am testing as a prize, for the grower who could suggest the setup that would produce the BEST PAR map. Dozens of growers made suggestions - I selected 5. In this video we review and analyze all of the tests and consider what makes “The BEST PAR map”!
I am sure you will learn something in this video - I learned a lot running and analyzing these tests!

Great details Doc! I evaluate PAR maps by looking at the average delta of the PPFD in each quadrant. The lower the delta the more even the spread of light across the canopy.
I grow 4 plants in my tent and train them to one cola in every 6" square (same spacing as the trellis). I assume the more uniform the light is from edge to edge the more uniform the growth.
    Mars-Hydro FC-E6500 ($700)
Height, Position, Avg PPFD, Average Delta
    Low, 1, 692, 647
    Low, 2, 687, 560
    High, 1, 670, 455
    High, 2, 667, 380
So comparing these 4 results, the average PPFD drops 4% from first entry to last while the delta improves a whopping 41%. This tells me the delta is a more important factor to chase for those looking for uniform coverage. The last entry (higher height and position 2) would be my clear choice for this light.
Ahh, but what about the king, my Medic-Grow Fold-8 at $590?
    Height, Avg PPFD, Average Delta
    Low, 723, 550
    High, 691, 367
Compared to my choice for the FC-E6500, the Fold-8 mounted high average PPFD is 4% higher, Average Delta 3% better, and price 16% less.
Looking at design features, I predict PPFD delta will drive the home grow lighting market. Look at the square shaped PhotonTek SQ series for a preview.
Grower love! and I LOVE my Fold-8! :)

These new array adjustable rack lights are the next revolution for sure. I would prefer two 300w 4x2 fixtures or even 4 150w 2x2 fixtures. So many more options that way, and benefits when you have a break down, or when you are running less or different stages of plants. I took one of my 100w panels out of my flower tent to re-veg a strain I had troubles getting, until another one came. I'm still sold on the TSL-2000 or SP-3000's for my needs. Mars seems to be ahead of the market.

sp3000 outperforms clearly, lower cost in electric, better profile - sure cost a bit more but what you get more in harvest pays for it generously

Very informative... I just added a 4X4 tent to my grow room & I'm going with the FCE-4800. The Quantom board technology is decent for a small tent but for bigger bar style surely has better distribution. What height are people hanging the 4800 for veg (dimmer %) and flower stage? I was thinking 50% 16" then 100% at the same height. I'll check ppfd with the photone app to get an idea.

  • @codys14

Looks like a O.K 4x4 light, I probably wouldn't put this light in a 4x4 by itself without supplemental lighting, Definitely isn't breaking new grounds or is the best. very low light on like a foot+ in on each side of the lights par charts.
But it's cool they're offering some affordable lighting, Competes with like the Medic grows and bests it slightly in usable umols.
