    Note: The product has been updated since this review was published.
    The FC-6500 is the best fixture that Mars Hydro has produced. In my official test, it recorded a Usable Photon Efficiency of 2.38 µmol/w, which is among the industry leaders. I am really impressed with this fixture - and with how far Mars Hydro has come.

    Nice work , I've been running this light since August and I can tell you it's absolutely killer , I'm in a 57"x57" tent , a small 5x5 , it's about 2-3" from each side , the performance is spectacular ! I had a CMH de 1000 and this light grows way bigger denser bud's , right out to the edge , I switched in mid flower and my girls went ballistic , all branches went straight to the top .....insane growth ! $990 , I paid $1300 Canadian but if it died I'd buy another immediately !

      I honestly think that Apogee's 380-760nm ePAR sensor (or 389-761nm PAR-FAR) is the best for representing the PAR output of a growing light. Please see the Mr. Bugbee's video about the new definition of PAR and this latest sensor:
      ruclips.net/video/IJCLxCZ5qrI/видео.html
      I'm very surprised if after watching this video you still think that PAR is best to be measured between 400-700nm.

    I like this series from Mars. So much that I grabbed 2 x 6500's and 2 x 4800's (they were cheaper then I believe?). No complaints about the products. That said, Mars Hydro has pretty terrible customer service and I didn't even have any issues with the lights themselves. I think I'd still recommend these though. They're solidly built, put out a lot of light and are still a good value compared to other, similar offerings.

    thank you for the great review ! your work help so much ! in begin I think that FC6500 is the best for 5 by 5, but after your review with 2 SP3000, I think that the best PAR map can be get with 2 SP6500 on 5 by 5 with lower voltage. did you recommand it Dr ?👨‍🔬

    • @tkermi
      @tkermi 3 года назад

      What do you mean by "lower voltage"? I don't think the operating DC voltage of the fixture matters because these are all electrically safe products. Anyways for 5' by 5' 2 x SP 6500 or 3 x SP 3000 are also nice options (2 x SP 3000 is enough if no CO2 adding). It's a matter of taste thing 🤷🏻‍♂️.

    • @tkermi
      @tkermi 3 года назад

      To clarify, this FC-6500 is a too weak for 5'x5' if you want to use CO2 and/or get maximum yield. I think it's better for 4'x4', but then it might reach too close to the walls (if you for example have something attached to tent's frame). So for 5'x5' I would personally get 2 x SP 6500 or 3 x SP 3000. But this FC-6500 is still a very nice light and especially the efficiency is super good.

    Hi ccfg can you tell me when you say 1000ppfd is the maximum usable light. if using co2 does the usable maximum increase. Also how you work out the min and max yield available is this with or without supplemented co2 and if no could one expect even higher yields

    • @DrMJCoco
      @DrMJCoco  3 года назад +1

      The 1000 limit is assuming no supplemental CO2. You can go up to 1500umol/m2 with supplemental CO2. When the PPFD is above 1000 a good rule is to match PPFD with CO2 PPM = at 1500umol/m2 you should have about 1500PPM of CO2. According to the data published by Chandra et al. 1500umol/m2 with 1500 PPM CO2, should be more efficient than 1000umol/m2 with atmospheric levels of CO2. Therefore, if you ran at those levels, you could multiply our harvest estimates by 1.5 to estimate yield.

What’s the best Par meter for the money that will get a home grower everything he needs in one package at a good price point with a warranty?

  • @victorsupreme214
    @victorsupreme214 3 года назад

    Measurements of different heights where the edges and center get 1000 µmol would enable you to accurately shape your canopy or scrog into a slight V-shape or shallow inverted pyramid shape, and put your taller plants where the readings are lowest so they are closer to the fixture, or if your plants are all the same height, raise the outer ones in the weaker light zones by putting them on blocks until they are receiving acceptable levels.
    So with the light stationary, if you had a reading of 1000 µmol at 16" in the center but at the outer edges you had to have the PAR meter at 12" from the light to get a reading of 1000 µmol, then you would have a slope of 4" height difference from the center to the edge to shape your canopy to, and have uniform coverage at 1000 µmol.

      I just tested the new GeekBeast Plus. It is more expensive than this - by quite a bit. I am not convinced that the PAR map is better - in fact the PAR map for the GeekBeast is worse on the edges. I do agree that there are other decent 5x5 options at the $1000 price point. I would consider The FC6500, the Photontek X600 and the Grower's Choice ROI E720 all about the same price (after discounts) and all have strong selling points.

    If the corners are below 500, you're getting by with being under lit. This is a 48x48 light, with corners above 700, like they should be.

    • @DrMJCoco
      @DrMJCoco  3 года назад +2

      I disagree. corners at 700 is almost wasteful. It is nice to get all the corners above 500, but it a 5x5 there are not many fixtures that can do it. But that does not make this a 4x4 light... 16 sq feet is a lot less than 25! To be very fair, our calculator gives the actual coverage area that the light is best for - for the FC-6500 it is 22.7sq feet.

    • @steveletson6616
      @steveletson6616 3 года назад +2

      @@DrMJCoco l agree this would be great for a 4x4. Dim it down till you have 1000 in the center and the efficiency is going to be outstanding, less heat, better coverage and possibly longer life span.

    • @olysean92
      @olysean92 3 года назад

      @@DrMJCoco I have learned nearly everything I know about lighting from you and Shane at MIGRO. And I agree that 500 in the corners is perfect. With your tutelage, and your PAR map of the Mars Hydro FC3000 in a 36x36, I knew I would get 700 in the corners of my 32x32. So with the center down at 800 for terpines sake, my corners are 500. In the evaluations, and even the calculator (BIG FAN), some, or more weight should be given to even coverage. The SF4000 would fail.
