- PAR and NEW ePAR Tests with the cool new Photontek SQ 300w PRO!
10% Discount on photontek-lighting.com/ with code: CocoPTK
The Photontek SQ 300w PRO is an excellent new fixture designed for 3’ x 3’ or up to 1m x 1m coverage. It has a cool design, with LED Bars in three concentric squares. This design produces an excellent distribution of light across the coverage area. It features an ideal spectrum for growing cannabis with ample red and far-red light. Because of its spectrum, I ran it through our standard PAR test (400-700nm) and an extended PAR test (400-750nm).
The Science of Horticultural Light is changing! In this review I discuss the latest research from Bugbee, Zhen and others, which looks at the role that Far-Red Light plays in Photosynthesis. Far-Red light is not included in “PAR”, but it is included in the newly defined “ePAR” range. We’ll analyze how the Photontek SQ 300w PRO performs in both the PAR test and the new ePAR test, and we’ll consider the significance of this new science for us as growers!
Grow Light PAR Testing is part of the www.cocoforcannabis.com/ Grow Light Guide. I conduct independent and impartial grow light testing. I present the data that I gather during my tests. I really want this light now!! Thank you for such a thorough review, Dr. Coco 😀
Dr Coco a great bloke always a pleasure to hear him talk on anything
Very cool. Thanks for the review!
I have this light, turned up today in fact. I also have the 600w pro. Amazing build quality and awesome bits of kit
Excellent video sir! Your channel is absolutely worthy of a follow!
You were incredibly thorough in your review of this light, and have sold me on the quality of Photontek. I will definitely be using your promo code to grab one of these SQ300 while they are on sale. Many thanks Dr MJ Coco!
Thank you MJ I ordered the SQ200W Pro through your link, thank you for the 10% off code 🔥🙏🙏
Just watched Bruce bug bees video on epar, good stuff! Science is king!
Congratulations, got to get one of those.
The only thing disappointing is that it is 22" square instead of 28' or 30". Seems like you could just have a 22" square quantum board and leave the middle 6 inches empty for a lower price. The form factor looks cool for the Photontek for sure. No doubt the marketing people like that and I am sure it will be effective.
Excellent informational video, thanks
I've the lumatek attis 300w and I ❤ it.
How many grams per what with that light
That’s an awesome light system.
That light looks soooooo cool!!!! Man I would love to have that light haha thanks for the content
Great reviews next light I get I'll make sure to use your links to help support your channel
Thank you - Grower Love
You're the best. Great video
Thanks for sharing stay safe and keep up the good work 🇧🇧 👉🏾 🇨🇦 👍🏽 💨
Can’t wait to see
Nice 🙏💚💚💚 growers love and I’ll b here 🙌🙌🙌💚💚💚🙏🙏
Hey Doc, would love to see you run the HLG650 light. Or the 600 rspec
Not really interested in a light atm but still a great watch!
I'm still waiting for epar test on hps and cmh 😏 I wonder when they are going to include UV in testing
Bet it would really slap in them corners at 20” with somewhere around 800 all over 🤘🏻🔥🤘🏻
Hey, are the driver and cable connections waterproof?
And can the driver be removed to be used outside of the tent?
Thanks!
. Love that your bring us the new research and data. .DONT GET ANY BETTER . growers love .Hit that sub . Premier in 2 minutes 🥳
I can't afford any new lights so I can't watch this lmao. Jk
@@growjaysimpson4646 haha. Still awesome to watch and have the right information when your ready . I wouldn't miss a video . Growers love Jay
@@hempwithgg his videos are top of the line and there is no biased opinion. Just facts how I like . Before I buy any light I come here or use the calculator on the ccfc website
@@growjaysimpson4646 100% agree
With that par map, would it be worth turning the light 45 degrees to get the corner numbers up?
The light is so small vs the area I do not think it would help.
i bought the eu version for my 1 by 1 meter space what are your findings on that and maybe tips?
Will Dr. Coco be going back and testing some of the other reviewed lights for ePAR?
would be an awesome addition to all the reviews!
Doubt it because he gives the lights away after testing... just like he is about to give this one away.
I bought the Mogobe Octopus 300 the par is almost identical to the Photontek SQ 300 but the Mogobe has 35-40% more diodes a Meanwell driver and the build quality is comparable bonus is the Mogobe is half the price.
How the light working for you. I looked at this on Amazon. I’m debating on it.
Sweet
will 2 of these fixtures effectively replace TWO SE 600watt hps bulbs in a 5x5 space??
Great video! Would this light work in a 24” x 48” grow tent or would it be better off in my 24” x 28” tent?
A bit late but it is not the light for either.
@@gregkramer5588 what do you me not the light for either? It’s designed for a 3x3. Am I missing something?
@@jhonwayne1003 I think the 200 would suit that size better
@@jhonwayne1003 yes it‘s for 3x3. His area is 2by2
Can it be had in anodized blue or green, instead of red?
FINALLY, someone made a light that'll blow the doors off a 3x3 space.
The FC-E4800 fits in to a 3x3 very well. It is about 32-33 inches on a side. $20 cheaper also.
Feel like my Black Sail Cannon is pretty close to that…I don’t even set the driver to 220w and it seems like overkill lol.
@@gregkramer5588 But Mars is bad quality, their lights are risky.. And their customer service is terrible after purchase.. They're only nice before you buy, but once you pay they treat you like garbage.. Stay away from Mars and Spider
@@twentytwo138 I was just about to buy a whole setup from them? Who has better service? I will be pissed if I get screwed over.
Thanks again for the thorough info and discount code it saves almost $50 you rock!
New science!!... the Sheldon in me says Bazinga!!!
Dr MJ on videos even upload a second one showing the light more in depth!! Showing about the best hight and % for 200 ppfd (seedlings) 500 600 for veg 600 to 900 for flower 🌼 🌸 this would be so nice so all us that dont own a par meter and can't really justify spending 600$ for one. Since everyone that does reviews/par test only test the light at 100% so we basically know where for late flower. Also the par charts that come with lights are also only at 100% then they just tell us 36 inches for veg but don't give a % thanks hopefully you do if not i guess I might end up doing this myself since Noone else does
I think this is a great suggestion. It is a bit harder than it may seem because so much depends on set up and number of plants. For example, in early growth, are all the plants positioned directly below the light (=low height and low dimmer setting) or are they distributed across the final grow space (=higher height and higher power - but same max PPFD). I will continue to think about this and start to include more of the data you seek. Thanks for the suggestion
@@DrMJCoco sweet thanks! I understand won't be perfect and exact for everyone and all situations. Even if you just do a test at 25%, 50, 75 or something just so we get a better idea don't really need all the numbers just middle corners sides should be good and maybe at 2 diffrent heights. And wouldn't really need all the calculator info for this. ((Just trying to throw out some ideas)) I also know will be difficult to do all that extra work but idk why your not monetized as you don't smoke or show cannabis only one I recall is the seedling video a few weeks back. Should be monetized!! With lower % test so ppl could figure where to hang there lights and what % I feel those would get lots of views! But hopefully you can figure out something we have faith in you!! Great video as always 👍 keep up the great work and have a good week and Thanksgiving!
@@miker5700 This is all explained with pictures and data in the spread sheet on Photontek website.
I have a 3ft x 7ft growing area. Do you think two of these plus a mars hydro TSL 2000 (300w) would achieve me atleast 1.5 pounds assuming environmental factors are near perfect?
I should achive more than twice top-shelf, with that pover in 2msq, so why you couldn't dothe same?
Does anyone know what height settings and dimmer settings for seedling, and veg? I don’t see it on their site. Thanks
They have it on their site under documents ---> spec sheet.
Far read makes the plant think it is in the shade, hence cell elongation, and yhea you guessed it blue does the opposite i would like some added UVA.
Hi Mate,
Are these lights any good for a 5x5 ? PRO GROW LED MODEL Z / 780 Watt / FULL SPECTRUM ,
Is it better for worse then the LUMATEK LED GROW LIGHT - ZEUS 600W PRO 2.9 , any advice on the differences is appreciated
I am in same problem before buyinf. but lumatek is much more quality, and FR diodes are on lumatek only, longer timelife, longer garanty, beter diodes protection,, much better construction ...so - LUMATEk is my winer
@@stanislavbabic4511 yeah I ended up buying lumatek Zeus pro 600 watt 2.9
Can you test Ac infinitys LED Grow Lights please?
I think migro already tested one
🌱
This might explain why I got so much light burn on mines
Howe much less is the par at 70cm?
Optic led 650s or hlg?
Philiizon 😂
👍🏻
At red is great but its only needed 15min at beginning and end of light cycle.
Too much complications.. It's either just a 'bro science' or very delicate and fancy, with a small benefit for the most prestigious growers.
The Sun emits infrared all day, not just in the morning and before dark..
HPS and CMH bulbs produce much more infrared in the high 800nm spectrum and plants grow well under them.
Infrared is useful the whole time, not just in intervals.
Looks very similar to the square lights from FGI. Has anyone used those? They’re American company I believe.
They are a American company out of Washington State. They design the light but I believe it’s still made in China 🇨🇳 💯
@@sacballa_kills_em_wit_facts good to know.
@@sacballa_kills_em_wit_factsI believe by this time everyone should understand that there are almost no companies that assemble their lights in home country.
I'm curious about how much infrared light is too much for these plants. perhaps some of these leds are giving too much. Particularly when it comes to autoflowering plants that receive upwards of 18- 24 hrs of exposure to these lights per day. I've read elsewhere that infrared can have negative impacts on plants that are overexposed. Not trying to say these lights aren't good or whatever, just genuinely curious.
Hey, it's a late answer but i'll give you some pointers, hopefully you find this helpful. Bottom line is, this is not too much IR, it's just enough and balanced.
- For comparison, the light from the Sun, HPS or CMH bulbs emit much more infrared than LED's, but plants still grow well under them.
- HPS and CMH infrared spectrum has a big spike in the 800nm wavelength, and it's about 40% of the total output. The infrared from the Sun even goes beyond 900nm.
- These LED's have a small spike at 730nm, and it's only 15% of the output.
- 730nm is far-red, not true infrared. So it's weaker and there's less of it. True infrared spectrum starts after 800nm.
- Infrared produces heat so the lights need to be further. And since the Photontek has a good PAR value and needs to be held higher, the IR won't be too strong.
- Leaf temperatures have to be a little bit higher than the ambient temperature, so the IR diodes help.
- IR causes stretching in plants, but it's being balanced by the blue spectrum. And if you add some UV which is also on the blue/violet spectrum, it will be perfectly balanced.
- IR helps speed up the flowering a little bit, and it's beneficial to stretch the plants a bit. A plant that is too compact may not yield as much, and it may reduce light penetration and airflow.
- 800-900nm infrared from the Sun and HPS can help a tiny bit against pests and mold because it heats the surface. But 730nm from LED's won't have much effect, if any.
- UV is beneficial against mold. HPS also produces some UV, as well as the Sun. That's why mold doesn't grow in the Sun, because of UV and IR. And that's why many new growers with LED's struggle with mold much more than with old school HPS, because there isn't enough UV and IR.

Can you test Mars hydro fce3000 or fc3000 with a new ePAR sensor?
Yes, I plan to - hopefully soon! Grower Love
@@DrMJCoco I just got a 3x3 tent, now I can’t decide between the sq300, fc3000, or the fce3000. Been leaning towards the sq300 but now I might have to wait for the new test.

sf 4000 should blow the doors off a 3x3
Bah.. It's the same price but quality is worse.. Not worth it.. Spider and Mars are bad quality, and their customer service is terrible..
I do not think it is better than the FC3000 for 3x3.
I think it is a smidge but the price premium is large.

Who won my guess was 720 im sure someone was closer than that

Even if the par numbers are genuine, keeping the led brand secret is fishy
For some reason many people are obsessed with Samsung. I do not know why, there are many good LED companies.
💯 if they didn’t have anything to hide, they wouldn’t hide anything 🤷
probably phllips lumileds for whites and osrams for reds and FR
They're not hiding it. Some of their lights use Philips Lumileds, and some of their lights use LUMLEDS, which are custom-made by them.
Lumatek made their own HID bulbs and ballasts, and now they make their own diodes. They don't jump the bandwagon on Meanwell's and Samsung's like every other light, they produce their own. Just like Migro with his own driver.
Lumatek has been around forever man. Mainly commercial. They are top of the line.
Mars Hydro > photontek
Hahah why, just because of the price??
Mars lights are bad quality, and their customer service is terrible.. Also they lie about their numbers
Mars Hydro and Spider farmer suck ass
