- Congratulations to HLG for achieving the highest ever efficiency result in our PAR tests at 2.89 µmols per watt or usable PPF per watt and 717 watts consumed.
Shop HLG Scorpion Diablo X here: horticulturelightinggroup.com... migroyoutube&
The average PAR in a 5x5 at 16" hanging height ad reflective walls was 992 µmuol/m²/second.
The new Diablo X power is increased 10% to 720 watts and is a new design with folded white reflectors to better direct the light onto the plant canopy delivering very uniform light distribution.
The boards are the new QB548 Quantum board with the highest efficiency Samsung LM301BEvo or LM301H Evo depending on the model chosen.
The Spectrum has increased red output for higher electrical and photosynthetic efficiency using either Samsung V4 or Osram V5 660nm reds
Overall spectrum output is 20% Blue, 32% Green and 48% Red

can take 12 of the Waveform 10watt led bulbs....make an array with 6 bulbs on each side in parallel formation separated by about oh 4 inches....where i have 3 of the 6,500k and 3 of the 2,700k staggered on one side, and then of course 3 of the 95+ CRI 6500k pure sunlight kelvin and 3 of the 2,700k 95+ CRI 10watt led bulbs staggered on the other side. 12 bulbs in total....all of them 95+ CRI certified R90 or better.
And i will grow circles around all of you....muwahaahaahaha!!!!
The effects of a 95+ CRI index in 6500k and 2,700k in 95+ CRI index....are quite simply....Astonishing.
Took me a while to determine the efficacy of the PAR value and spectrum the plants were getting. I found out that a Par rating of 1,000 with an led array consisting of leds with a CRI index of 80 or below, were FAR LESS effective in growing plants of EVERY kind. Compared to the same led grow light with LESS wattage and just 95+ CRI index diodes on it. And that is the truth. I'm a houndog. And yes i had to dig for that one.
In fact, the PAR efficacy is directly proportional to the CRI index rating for the diode array in the Grow light. Even with WAY less wattage and built with less diodes, a full 95+ CRI rated board will grow pants way way better still. No doubt about it, hands down it will grow plants better And healthier.
Nice review. I just had one of these delivered today. Can't wait to see how it performs
I'm trying to order your Array 4 right now, waiting on chat to answer me back.
Thanks for doing what you do Shane.
Looking LIT! 🔥🔥🔥
Great light, great chips!!!
Very nice. I always wished they’d add reflectors. They used to sell add on ones for a after purchase with their diy kits . 😊
I don't know how much light these reflectors actually reflect the light, but with corners at 490 mms I wouldn't want any of the light reflected away from the outside edge. I think maybe this light should be raised just a little bit.
Great review. Given the high amount of red in the spectrum, the Diablo X is geared toward flowering rooms/tents. HLG said they created this spectrum for growers that wanted a bit more red and less blue since HLG spectrums tend to be strong in the blues. Both Scorpion models are quite efficient due to the thick blues in the Diablo and the tall reds in the Diablo X.
wait till you see new light coming out where you can adjust your spectrum to your liking and hlg still using those bad dimmers for the rest they are great
Cheers Shane.
Very impressive!
Will you be reviewing any Fohse lights in the near future?
So i can't chose between 3 lights. cost and efficiency don't matter. 5x10 tent with 2 lights, only wanting what the plants will be happiest with for best growth best yields. Can't chose between this, glm tarantula, or diotech 830w. Any suggestions for me?
Over 2100 PPF output with photon efficacy of 3.06 µmol/J. Simply amazing, we're excited for the release!
I wild guess, but I see something like this combo using reflectors easily replacing the bars which have black holes in between . Actually think the move may also include back to panels, just not sold on the bars by themselves
Hi can we get your take on the lumii black 720?? Thanks
Id love to see you do an amazon budget light test on some of the more basic or cheap brand lights including greenfingers!
Fuck amazon tho, disgusting company
Hello from Colorado ! Great review. Considering the information on red light and far red light we got in the Bugbee video, when would you use this light? Its advertised as a flowering light because of the red spec but.. there's no solid evidence that far red spec increases flowering size or causes earlier flowering. Thanks!
I thought far red was more about secondary metabolites not flower size or early flowering?
So what height and power percentage would it work for veg

How would you recommend using your UVB light setup in addition to a light like this that covers so much of the canopy? Would you hang it from the side? Or would overhead still allow enough uvb through?
Don't do it
I went to the pet store and got a bunch of uv-b 10-watt lights spiral compact fluorescent they might have actually even been 15 or 23 w. I placed them a foot-and-a-half away from some foliage and within a week and a half the foliage was absolutely destroyed

Photontek is far superior to hlg in every way
@@sjedi5646 Obviously not every way. This one has the higher effeciency pr watt.
Does anyone know what grow lights are compatible with all these greenhouse controllers? I cant seem to find an answer. Lets say I wanted a greenhouse with 20+ lights, What program can control them to add supplemental lighting depending on the amount/lack of light. (basically something would measure the available light in the greenhouse and adjust them as needed)
Late reply but groflux has partnered up with HLG and makes controllers specifically for HLG lights. I got the scorpion diablo x may of 2023 and im just finishing up my 4th cycle. Tbh its a good LED but it doesnt produce the same quality flower as my HID system and changing out my bulbs to the 10k finishing bulb super blue

Aloha & Two thumbs up to HLG and Samsung for the chips that make it cook! Gone are the days when we could cook a chicken off the heat of a double ended gavita hid. Did HLG forget to add a little far red?

Not a chance for $699. As mentioned before on your comment, the SE7000 is over $700 and even that can’t compete with this.

Is mars hydro TS1000 still up to bar these days?
its still amongst the best budget 150W fixture for the price in US, great output but uses off brand diodes. Not that it matters too much. in EU there are better budget options! i think if you put 4 TS-1000's in a 5x5 its will be amazing
What's the difference between samsung and bridgelux diodes?
Efficiency, price, voltage and probably lifespan.

Great review as always from migro at the other end of the price spectrum would love to see a test on the lumii black 720 not much info or reviews out there for it and how it works the pros/cons , a 720w led run using a 600w hps digital ballast for £450?.
I think they’re a knock off Lumatek brand. They say they use some lesser known “Pioneer” diodes, but not sure on that. You can go to this video to see a review and par map test if you want.
m.ruclips.net/video/ooxzjDkMAwM/видео.html
Yes a test on the lumii black would be great. The test from Marijuana SA is not so great (no myllar walls). Also I would love to see Shane's thoughts on the ballast instead of drivers, especially if it would reduce the leds' lifespan.
@@freedom_born I understand your point of view but disagree. In our modern days, sadly, everybody's copying everybody, some hides it better than others. Also Lumatek has never done (as far as I know) a LED light with a ballast, so I don't see a copy here. But copycat or not, not testing a cheap light is taking a chance that people will buy it. Shane has tested some pretty crappy lights and said they are crappy, so the customer knows. The reason I asked about this light is that the price in insanly low in Europe compared to others, half the price of chinese brands like SF ou HM, 3 times less than european brands. Also using a ballast instead of a driver is kind of a curiosity and bring out questions about longevity wich an expert like Shane would be trusted to answer.
@Goku Zawa
I understand what you mean. But the company doesn’t even say what diodes they use. One website says Pioneer, another says they use their own in-house diodes. That’s a major red flag when the company itself can’t even give their specs.
Besides which, Lumii is indeed a knock off Lumatek & Photontek brand, irrespective whether Shane’s tested crappy lights before. I’d say those tests were only done as comparison tests and not stand alone tests. Essentially Shane won’t review an absolute no name brand, but will test brands that are relatively known. It’s like asking him to test brands like Sonlipo, Szhlux, Phlizon, FECiDA, etc…
So in conclusion, Shane prob won’t ever test Lumii unless they send him one. Cos he likely won’t request one to be sent - and even if they do send one, he prob won’t dow stand alone test and review anyway.
@Goku Zawa
I mean don’t get me wrong, sorry if i seemed like an asshole earlier. I understand your frustration and curiosity, and realize you prob need validation or satisfaction for your purchase(s).
But if you’ve got old ballasts lying around, and can utilize them, that’s a real bonus. Not to mention the price range too. The PAR coverage where the S.A. guy measures without Mylar is about 1100 avg for the center. Ofc there’s a huge drop off to about 100 avg for the corners, but the center reading should indicate a predictable avg as the coverage spreads out. So prob 600-700 corner/side avg. Those are still good readings regardless. So don’t worry too much, even the Lumatek ballasts aren’t that reliable either - and Lumatek is a reputable brand by industry standards.
Would you recommend the New Scorpion Diablo or The new Scorpion Diablo X for full cycle seedling to flower?
The X is more of a flowering light due to spectrum. Go with the regular Scorp D for full cycle.
@@jimmyrustle6725 Thank you. Thats what i thought being more red.
I have a 4x4 bed but i am in a room not a tent. Would you recommend the Scorpion Diablo X or the Photontek XT 1000 C02? i have the ability to supply CO2 to room as well. It seems like the addition of the reflectors might be a better situation for me given the direct light to the canopy. I am looking forward to your reply. Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into testing these LED lights. Much Love.
If you have that kind of money to spend man either light is a good option
Your average PAR would be about 1400. I would go for about 600w max for a 4x4 and target 1000 average PAR AND Hang some mylar off the sides for best efficiency
@@MIGROLIGHT So i think the Diablo X will be perfect then. It really is a 5x5 space not a 4x4.
@@MIGROLIGHT If seedlings, vegetative, and mature-stage plants require different PAR intensities to grow, then why is it that outdoor plants are able to grow under the sun no matter what stage the plant is at? But indoor plants should be grown at specific par intensity based on their stage.
@@TheChromePoet outdoor if the seedlings do not have the correct moisture and also if it's NOT in some partial shade at first the cuticle is too thin one the actual surface of the leaf. The cuticles the wax-like substance that protects it kind of like your skin or pigment. It has to be established first for it to be able to handle the intense light from the sun. Plus there's a million-plus things that could kill those seedlings outside. And why not start the plant out inside as a seedling in a Solo cup and then transfer. From popping accede to about two-and-a-half weeks 3 weeks as long as the roots are sturdy in a the solo cup you can move the to and area with a mesh over it. After a week of healthy feeding. Let the sun start saying, what's up baby Jane....damn you lookin fine.....let me smother you with this big ol comforting warm. I'd like to see the chart at 24" or 30". Those heights are probably more accurate to the height you would have to hang that light in a grow tent using full power.
correct, 20-24 sweet spot with co2, 24+ without
Another I would rahter run at at lower power in a 4x4 instead of a 5x5.
Still convinced if ure growing in a tent larger than 4x4 multiple modules are the way to go.
Yeah I agree, sticking a 700 watt light on full power 16in above the canopy sounds like a bad idea to me
I am curious to see a Bar style light that has a 5x5 footprint instead of another 4x4 light that puts out more umoles.
Shane where are you we need more content! hope all is good

Man I'm addicted to LEDs.
Yep, and migro keeps pulling me back in.
Me too I sometimes sit in my grow room just to bathe in the light
Me too, I love the fact that you can build your own lights, the flexibility in use and you can experiment with different configurations etc.
The issue for me is picking the proper LED. Sure this looks great, but at 1,200$ how does this compare to a number of high rated 600-800$ units? I can get 2 Mars-Hydro FCE-8000 or Spider Farmers SE7000 or others for the price of the Diablo X here; which people are getting epic results from.
My FC-8000's wiring literally melted at the connection between the driver and the light. I sold my remaining Mars Hydro and bought Fluence and Scynce lights, they do not even get warm at the connections. just spend the extra money on something that could burn your house down.
@@lok777 Not a big fan of Mars hydros build quality. sometimes lots of flickering going on when dimming year 2021 Ts1000s, they're running hot without active fans on top of them. However the hortione600s have surpassed my wildest expectations in every aspect

@@joshuadeloach1676 I've have been looking hard and close and that new SE7000 looks legit. I'm super skeptical of Mars-Hydro but their new FC-E8000 looks on par with the Spider Farmer.

juicy, Shane i hope you are developing a new style of fixture that is even more efficient, wish i could work with you to make an even spread, seems simple to me
With all electronics, they never make the best version right off the bat, even though they can. They have to keep selling "iterations" that are just a little better than the last. This isn't directed at Shane by the way, just consumer electronics in general.
@@mopar426power yep that's a great point it's going to be a snail's pace to the proper design

With a light spread from 490 to 1350, I'm not sure how even I would consider that.
Make a better one, show em how it's done 😂
@@phill3144 It sounds like you think it would be difficult. It really isn't. I have done it.
I mean realistically that’s a lot of output near the centre of the light, raised another 6” you’d get a much more desirable spread
It's just a matter of rising it up a bit further until the spread is as even as possible...
Nowhere in the vid says that the maximum/ideal/better spread output is going to be the same...
I would take this over ANY modern bar style light that only produces decent numbers on really close distances, with a SHIT penetration of the canopy, because it just doesn't perform as good when you add distance...
QBs, specially good ones, are pretty good at putting decent numbers of PAR on deeper than a half foot deep canopy....
@@DiegoMorales-jh1qi I hear what you're saying. Raising the up to where the center is at 1200 will help the outside a little. It still won't be very good. It would be even better in a 4x4 tent. My point is that these companies build a light and then advertise it for a specific size grow space, in this case a 5x5, then it gets what I see as lousy outside border coverage. Most grow spaces that people use are standard sizes. Why can't someone design a light for these specific sizes that will actually give a consistent spread for that area. I would call an acceptable coverage spread being 1200 center and no less than 850 in the corners. I would buy that light.

Lots of it
Mine puts out a good amout
Watts and BTU’s(heat measurement) are 100% relative.
2.89 wow
That's funny bc the website claims over 3.0
@JM12Green 2.89 is ppfd per watt . 3.06 is ppf per watt in an integrated sphere. Two totally different metrics.
PPFD = Photosynthetic photon flux denity
PPF= Photosynthetic photon flux

Great ! Please my friend test the AIR GROW PRO III "HYPER RED" of FUTURE OF GROW (FOG)
Good light, a certain ''competitor'' of HLG based in good ole' Canada will not be very happy... anyhow, I would love to see a great 500 watt light with this efficiency, hopefully a project for Migro in the future now Energy prices in Europe are skyrocketing, a 500w light vs a 700w light does not decrease quality by that much but it does decrease the electricity draw by quite a bit...
@ChannelTheLizard I mean you can but why would I dim a 700 watt light that I paid extra for because of the extra power as oppose to just running a 500 watt light at full capacity.

I have a question, what is your opinion on the following statement by scynceled: But wait a minute….a plant is not a flat surface. So why do we use these sensors? Mainly because there are really not any other options. Licor makes a spherical quantum sensor ( LI-193 ) that is designed to measure underwater light and looks promising for use in horticulture, but hasn’t been fully tested or vetted out in this application just yet. According to Licor this sensor measures, “Photosynthetic Photon Flux Fluence Rate (PPFFR) or Quantum Scalar Irradiance. This is important, for example, when studying phytoplankton, which utilize radiation from all directions for photosynthesis.” The last time we checked, plants utilize radiation from all directions as well. Let’s bring the conversation back to what this means to those of us today that need to measure light energy at our grow facilities. Most meters measure light from about an 80° cone ( +/- 40°) which works great in 99% of applications, specifically those with HID/HPS and bare LEDs. Scynce’s lights fall into the 1% category where traditional light meters don’t tell the whole story.
The image to the left demonstrates how a light sensor captures energy emitted under a 40° angle. Most of the lights Scynce makes use a 120° full width secondary optic that emits light at 60° in each direction. That means that 70% of the light emitted from a Scynce light is unable to be captured by a hand-held light meter accurately.

Because it’s made in America putting Americans to work
Idk man. It’d be pretty damn hard to get a company to custom build something that can compete with this for $500.
The SE5000 & even the 7000 from Spider Farmer can’t compete with this.
I have a custom built 6bar light from a local company i requested them to make. Everything comparable to an SE5000 and that was $500… that was the cheapest i could knock them down. If i ordered the SE5000 it would’ve been $180 extra.
An SE5000 for almost $700, or even a custom built like mine for $500 will never compete with this.
If he can do it why isn't he?
Talk is cheap.
Your friend is a liar. The components themselves would cost multiples of that before assembly, testing, packaging, shipping, warranties, delivery, over heads insurance duties, taxes... Those kind of comments annoy me to be honest.
Excellent light but not worth the price. There's just to many good lights way cheaper.
Just my opinion though 🤷
6 groplaneer 150s in same setup would be certainly as good light wise
So now HLG is copying the Mars approach to light reflectors.
I can take 12 of the Waveform 10watt led bulbs....make an array with 6 bulbs on each side in parallel formation separated by about oh 4 inches....where i have 3 of the 6,500k and 3 of the 2,700k staggered on one side, and then of course 3 of the 95+ CRI 6500k pure sunlight kelvin and 3 of the 2,700k 95+ CRI 10watt led bulbs staggered on the other side. 12 bulbs in total....all of them 95+ CRI certified R90 or better.
And i will grow circles around all of you....muwahaahaahaha!!!!
Aye no problem 1,200 pounds
pssst look for promo codes, found one for 25% off.... less that 1k american

People really need to take a look at the CCT of this fixture, and consider it it's even suitable for flowering. Not sure hitting high efficiency with a useless spectrum is a worthwhile trade off.
Whats wrong with the spectrum? It seems perfectly suitable to me
Lmfao this is the dumbest comment on this video
@MIGRO
You know what Shane, me thinks it’s just the QB design that puts people off. Ask them why they think the spectrum is wrong and they can’t tell you. This, and ALL THE best lights on the market don’t even produce 80% of what the sun does, and they’re calling it a useless spectrum?
Wow
@@freedom_born blue and red spikes man let that sink in haha
@JM12Green
🤣🥴🤡
Rip off but he's obviously going to try and sell. Couple for them anyways
