Nice work on the new website, and depth of your analytics. I agree that more diodes beats hot spot designs all the time with approximately equivalent ppfd mappings.
Well done LED gardener, great summary: basically if money is no object, and you are an efficiency nut who wants the absolute best then Scorpion Diablo hands down... Best value light HLG 600... And Scorpion Rspec for best spread/uniformity/price... HLG 650R if you are running Co2 and want to max your yields, but cannot afford Scorpion Diablo. Whichever way you go, you won't go wrong with HLG LOL! Great info as always, love the new website, fantastic and looking forward to seeing how other manufacturers lights stack up :)) Keep up the excellent work, you are at the cutting edge, and God Bless you, Brother :))
Just bought a Scorpion Rspec, for $765 seemed like the way to go in my 5'x5' seems a little slim on the edges but has to be far better than my present underlit SF-2000 x 2 setup.
Great video it would be extremely useful information to include the PPFD readings for each of these lights at the various clicks HLG lights have it would really help growers dial in their lights at various stages of growth (seedling/clones/veg and bloom) I see a lot of people with these lights asking other owners how many clicks they have it set on at various stages of growth
The problem with this is that the detentes on the potentiometers can differ by quite a bit. I tested this on the 600Rspec I have, and the "halfway" click on the potentiometer was actually 80% of full power. The number of detentes also seem to differ on each pot as well. The 650R has several of them while the 600 only has one. The best way is to use a kill-a-watt meter and see how much power you're drawing at whatever position you are on the pot, compare that to how much power it draws when it's cranked up, and then use this to figure out roughly what your PPFD will be. When I measured 50% power draw on my kill-a-watt, the PPFD readings were damn near 50% of those taken at max (they were a little higher). It scales pretty reliably.
@@LEDGardener You can just produce your own pulse width modulation signal with an arduino or raspberry pi or whatever. Then you know exactly what percentage it is.
I would like to see a review on the growers choice roi-e720. This seem s to be what most shops are carrying along with hlg. I currently run the 600rspec but want to upgrade my light for a bigger room . Awesome information your doing!
Scorpion R-spec for 610 in the house. Replaced my old Timber Redwood VS cobs with 2 1750k cobs and 4 3K cobs. Im running another Timber side by side with the new Scorpion.
Thanks for this in depth review. IS there anyway to calculate what the PAR would be at 75% on the driver? For example if it is 1000 at 100% at one point is it about 750 at 75%? Is that a reasonable way to think about it? Thanks.
World be nice if you included lux readings at various heights. Growers can get inexpensive lux meters and compare it to your par output for a given light
I'm building out my new grow room as we speak and now I'm severely torn about which light to get. My current plan has me going with six of the Scorpion Diablos, but I don't know now after hearing your final comments about how you would maybe choose one of the lights with 4 boards instead of 6 if you were growing in a large room instead of a tent. I wish I didn't watch this video now 😅 great video tho, you don't know how long I've been waiting to find someone make a comparison video of these HLG lights.
Nice. I base this mostly on a conversation I had with HLG quite awhile back where they suggested it might be the case, but they were likely meaning on a larger scale. That being said, it looks like grandmasterlevel is doing a massive build with Scorpion Diablos in one of his rooms and it looks insane. Check out the video he posted most recently.
Please don't get the diablos!!!! Get the Scorpion rspec!!! The coverage area is much bigger and the light distribution if far more evenly distributed. I have the scorpion rspec and I'm running it at 32 inches at 100% . That will give you an idea of the power. I even had to add co2 to get the full benefits of this light. Get the scorpion rspec. You will need less lights and they will last longer. Can't say enough good about the scorpion rspec. Best light I've ever had by 100 miles.
I'm still trying to figure out the main difference between a Diablo and a Diablo R-Spec what is the difference with an R-Spec hlg light? Besides the $300 difference
It’s either Diablo or Rspec. Diablo uses QB648 boards with 648 white diodes per board plus 18 deep reds. Rspec boards are 288 white diodes per board plus the deep reds.
You're going to be so happy with the scorpion Diablo. Not to mention you should be able to get a discount getting six units. You should be able to buy them for around $800 each. Very exciting system you got going on. That's a lot of work though I work 2 hours a day with 1:15x5 area and a few smaller veg rooms
I've had the scorpion rspec for 27 days of flowering in a 5x5 jacuzzi i repurposed and I gotta say the difference is night and day....my girls flipped in 10 days with highly noticable difference in the bud mass, density and formation. I started at 18 inches at 100% power and that was way too high. Stressed my babies out. I'm at 32 inches and my lux meter is reading 45k.....what an incredible light. Looks like a UFO floating by.....Can't say enough good about this light. I can't even imagine if iI got the Scorpion diablo which is even stronger. Would have set fire to my buds!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🦂🦂🦂🦂🦂🦂🦂🦂🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲
@@Organicallyblunt I'm at 28 in full brightness for a 5x5 area and sometimes that's too bright for some strains. I've noticed that the ghost train Haze I have doesn't do good at 100% so I keep it at 80 to 90% at 28 in

I really appreciate the comprehensive information. Keep up the great work!
Got a scorpion diablo around December of 2020. Amazing light.
I have 8 boards in my 5x5. 4 of the old V2 boards, and 4 of the new diablo boards. I've kind of done a DIY super-scorpion design with 2 more boards.
Frankenscorp. Love it. How much power?
You have the best testing.
These charts are awsome , thanks dude

Oh absolutely - I’ve even got a video on doing exactly that, but he’s talking about the built-in pot which the vast majority will use.
Some of the clicks do nothing too. My 3rd click does nothing and last 2 do nothing. Kinda shoddy workmanship on such a high end light
That website is gonna be awesome moving forward
Thanks for the comparison...just picked up a refurbished 650r scorpion with a coupon code $646...talk about bang for buck!
Dang, great price
You can get new R specs for 800 shipped.

I have the 600 rspec in a 4x4. For $699 I'm not changing anything. Gave me max yield at 480w.
It’s a great value light.
Thanks for sharing 👍🏽
Whats the best light money can buy today for a 5x5 tent. Only flowering.
And is there any ledlamp specifically designed for veg?
Love from Sweden

It would be cool if you could offer IES Light Profiles, that would be really useful.
Will have to look into that, thanks

Alot more dioads on the more expensive one. Almost double witch means each one is driven much less and increase life span
Thanks.
More HA automation videos plzkthx!
Hah wrong channel?
That website just made my laugh so much easier, could you please do the spider farmer sf7000?
How does the Scorpion scatter light better at 12 inches?
Either I'm blind, or they didn't coat their diodes at all.
Worries me bigtime either way.
It should,. Be easy when watering and make sure vent is on point
Your thoughts on going with a 5x10 design with 2 SCORPION RSPEC?
Hell yeah.
I put a scorpion in a 4x4..lets just say wow
Can you do the gavita 1700e?

I’m thinking 3 lights of the scorpion Diablo $1300? So 6 lights tottal

If the Scorpion Diablo is used in a 4 × 4 grow space. Do the measurements remain the same?
They’ll increase quite a bit.
Thank you for answer.I will use light in 4×4 space.
For sure. You’ll likely want to dim that thing down in a 4x4.
