springs create the elusion of having frictional drag when you dont , such as on an icy road , they preload the clutches to make the posi think is on pavement that creates the friction ( you can create the same illusion by lightly applying the emergency brakes ) by eliminating the springs, it enables you to move the side gears closer to the pinions for more gear tooth contact , which means more strength and quicker lock up.. it also reduces clutch wear , by not having to resist the spring pressur
you completely blew my mind with the axle end play... thank you, im building one right now and watching your video for pointers... i knew there was an amount to figure for but you have just put that into perspective.... thank you
Ok, this seems to be the only good video series on doing this procedure, I'm very gratefull you made it!. I have a C-3, a 1977, is there a way to adjust axle end play on the stub axles with the snap rings?
Hi Tom, excellent video!. I have a GM 7.5 Eaton posi, but it have inside a piece with four springs. Why you dont install this piece and the springs in your posi?
you can do some mods to the BOP eaton also , I don't make the cut type of spiders for that unit , butt you can still tune and use the 18 solid clutch type in there, so to answer your question yes you should be just fine with an eaton posi

I was thinking the same thing. Tom, can you answer? I have a GM posi that needs a rebuild and it has a spring pack inside it. Nice video Tom.
the gear shop that someone pointed out is not selling my product.. just the original toms
we don't use the springs , they are not really needed if you tune the posi , they just increase clutch wear..
Thanks, I just opened mine up and ... no springs and loose as a goose.
Now I know why.
And how to fix it.
I can rest easy now.
How can I get one of those carriers for my G80 in a 99 tahoe
Is that a Bradford White water heater that I see in your shop?
Will a EATON DIFF work for my 1968 Chevy Nova 10 bolt 8.2 ?
+PsychobillyEntertainment of course it will , you will love the way it works
Is their a remedy for that side end play at the wheel for my splined shafts??
I think it's the thickness of the "C" clips to give you the .005 to .008 after you tune the clutches.
are your spider gears broken ? you would need an eaton posi to tune like the video..
Why doesn't this diff have preload springs?
good ole J. Geils
Can eaton posi handle much abuse on a bop 8.2

What do you charge to rebuild a posi unit
Tom passed away last year so we are not doing any mechanical work. We still sell parts and various kits. Check out our catalog. Thanks, Jo Anne Watt
